On October 3rd, 2024, two students were caught skipping scans at a store checkout and placing unpaid items into bags. The total value exceeded $500, so both were arrested for felony theft and taken to jail. >> How are you? Good. >> Here we have some student IDs for students from the WSS. >> Okay. >> They were in our store today. They swiped all these items. They went through the register 47, but they only paid for half their stuff. They would put stuff in bags. They'd scan an item, put some stuff in a bag, scan one item, and they kept on doing this. Scan one, put three or four in a bag. >> Okay. >> did this to their entire transaction. Um we're just kind of going through your receipt to see what's paid for and what's not paid for. Everything that's not paid for so far is over there. What is paid for is right here. >> Do you guys have state IDs? >> Um I have a student ID. I don't have a driver's license. >> You don't have a driver's license? Okay. And then you don't have a driver's license? Do you have driver's license or an ID out of a different state? No? Okay. >> Passport. >> Yeah, can I see your passports? >> I don't have my passport. >> You have your passport at home? >> Huh? >> We don't have We don't have it right now. >> Where are your passports? >> In dorms. >> In dorms. >> In the dorms? Okay. Can you guys tell me why you were >> Um I can show you the ID and all the money. It was over minus. >> It looks like you have $840 in your >> It's a used I thought over there what is minus. >> Huh? >> Over there what is minus. It's the used >> So you guys are shoplifting cuz you didn't have any money? >> I didn't have money. >> Didn't have money? Okay. Why are you guys getting like dishes and stuff like that? >> We don't have anything. >> You don't have anything? >> No. Sorry about that though. >> Okay. >> Another person. >> 518 Superior. I have another name to run. It's going to be from a Nepal passport. >> Come over. Bye. >> So, you're under arrest right now. Okay. You're under arrest for theft. >> Here's Actually, I'm just going to put this down here. >> So, did she have anything on her or she did she have a cart full of stuff? >> Yeah, they were together. >> They were both doing it. >> One of them she was pushing the cart. >> Who's idea was it to do this? >> What's a good phone number for you? >> 608 So, did did she pay for any of her purchases at all? >> 801 7000 >> So, to gather this right, they were shopping together. They went through the line together. They were scanning together. They were both putting things in the bag that were not scanned together. And it was every other item or something like that. They scanned one and then they put three on scanned and a bag. Okay. >> Um I can look up the number. >> What do you want? Citation or downtown? >> Okay. Either or is up to you. I think that I'm looking at all the items in this cart and for people who don't have money right now to buy things, which obviously true, these aren't necessities. Makeup is not a necessity. That Caribou Coffee probably cost you at least $5. >> No, um I have a meal plan in school. >> A meal plan? Either or. Makeup, dishes, things like that. If you guys don't have money and you need food, that's something I can understand more, but these aren't necessities. You're stealing Yankee Candle Scent C's, makeup, dishes. >> Um dishes are not necessities >> Dishes are not a necessity. If you don't have money right now, you don't go buy a nice dish set with money you don't have. You don't do that. How much total for all this? >> We still have to ring it up. I just didn't want to stress out. >> Oh, okay. We'll let you go do that. You want to do that real quick? >> Sorry, I don't want to switch registers. Thanks. >> Yep. I would say for the food items, at least for the stuff that she put in her purse, that's probably at least $50 of merchandise in there. >> Yeah, I would agree. With the exception of purse. >> How how much you would you estimate was stolen? >> 25 square. Got to be about 250. >> Three. Three. what? Yeah, somewhere around there. Not over five. >> I I your information. I don't know what it is. >> Have you guys been convicted of a crime before? Have you guys had contact with the police before? >> Yeah, usually it has to be >> Did they get both returns back to you on these two? >> They said negative for both. I can confirm that. Him for sure was he was negative. I ran her name and I don't know if she gave me a return. I can double check to see if we've had any contacts and if we haven't had any contacts. >> If If we haven't had contacts, let's get a booking photo. >> Okay. >> And then if it weren't just food, it's other things, so >> Yeah. >> All right. >> Neither of you have ever been arrested? Okay, you're going to have a booking photo then. >> All right. I'm going to have you stand up. Place your hands behind your back. I'm going to search your person if you don't mind. >> Yeah, of course. Do you have anything on your person that could cut me, poke me, harm me, anything like that? Okay. Any merchandise on your person that we haven't found yet? Okay, turn, please. Sounds like a silly question we have to ask obviously. Any permission for them to take these items without paying for them? >> No, ma'am. >> Okay. Okay. You can go this way. I'll be holding on. Oh, sit down. Yeah, I can transport her. Um >> I think we're good, but you can try both of them. What are we going to do with this stuff? >> No parole. >> I will Is that stuff that they paid for? >> I turned it on and put it back on the charger. But I did >> So you're both of you are banned from sorry new Walmart rather you can never come back to Walmart ever again. All right? Or for a year actually. Can't come back to Walmart for a year. Do you understand what I'm saying? All right, you're both being you're being arrested for theft. You're both going to go to jail. They're going to return these items and put them back on your card. Okay? Does that make sense? >> All right, you said no permission for any of them. >> No, ma'am. >> Okay, are you able to get an itemized receipt of all the items they did not pay for? >> Yes. >> Yeah, when you get to jail they'll give you some water. All right. >> And this >> He is. >> Yeah, he's in handcuffs. So that complicates things. >> want to get that door for me though? >> I can get him some water. >> Here. Can I start start walking? >> No, we're good. Yeah, so you folks will return that then and put it on your card. >> Yep, it'll go back to you. All right. Go this way. Here we go. These doors >> Yeah. Here we are. I don't know if we have a car. We have two in custody. Neil Hardy and Tina Lopez. >> Okay. Okay, we're going to just need to search them. Go this way. Is it okay? >> 1455 do you want me to continue? Otherwise I'll disregard. >> Seat him there. Here. Do you want to try leaning forward? I don't think it's possible. I'm going to tie up belts. The belt buckle lock the side, but I have to try that. >> I just said sugar here. >> Can you lean to the side? Other side. My side. Towards me. All right. Lean back. >> We have two in custody and we're going to be transporting both these individuals to the jail. >> There you have that. >> All right there. >> So, you committed a felony. So, it's not a booking release. It's over $500 worth of theft. We didn't know, but my partner was informed it was over $500 worth of theft. So, that makes it a felony. So, you guys have been arrested for felony theft. And that's what you're in jail for and probably have to see a judge before you're released. Go ahead and walk through. >> What if I put Um, I did not take over $500. We had two different things. Like, I'm being honest with you. I I took very less time. Mine was not $500. You can Like, you can double-check with the Walmart, too. Those are not my stuff. I know we were together, but he had his own stuff. I had my own stuff. >> Mhm. I let my partner my partner know what you're telling me, and I want to let you know that you are in custody right now. So, anything you say can and will be used against you. If I ask you any questions, I have to read you your Miranda warning. Okay? So, I can bring up what you just told me to my partner. Um from what I could gather on scene, you both were going through the line together. You both were scanning items together. You both were packaging items together, and you guys committed that crime together, and it was over $500. Which is where he's getting that number from. Okay? So, I'll explain to him what you told me, but both of you are being charged with felony theft. >> I printed it to your guys's counter. Awesome. Thank you. >> Good work. >> 1328 >> The suspect was arrested for theft of property involving shoplifting. Don't forget to subscribe to the channel and share your thoughts in the comments below.
