He also faces a charge of resisting or obstructing a peace officer under 720 Illinois code section 531-1, a class A misdemeanor punishable by up to 364 days in jail. As always, all suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Beyond the criminal charges, officers quickly recognize this as a mental health crisis, and throughout the encounter, the suspect continues to act erratically, refuses to comply with officers and medical staff and repeatedly resists treatment.
