During my 29 years as a police officer in Florida, most drunk drivers pull over when the lights come on. This one drives all the way to the emergency room. >> 45 10-65 10-50 on that vehicle. >> Copy. >> It's going to be 100. Westbound at Memorial Medical. Florida tag. >> Romeo >> Correction. Texas tag Romeo Sierra Yankee 0297 RSY0297. It's a black Mercedes. Signal 12. >> Copy. >> Ugh, come on, man. >> 10-50 within earshot. >> [screaming] >> 3-10 copy. >> Turn in. >> 203 Dispatch has >> 10-45 Can you show me out with a 10-45, please? Copy. >> Alpha 224 for flagger. >> Alpha 224 >> This guy's never stopped. >> Vehicle's still rolling. Can you go ahead and give us 10-33 till further? >> All right, if you don't know what happened there, he says this vehicle is still rolling, give us 10-33 till after, which means allow me to have this channel all to myself, emergency traffic. And immediately what the dispatcher does is hits a tone button and they'll make an announcement. Hey everybody, um this officer is following this vehicle and don't talk unless you're spoken to because we don't know what we got here. >> 386 32 10-50 >> Stop the vehicle, pull over, do it now. >> 110 you're not clear with something. Is everybody else in the county clear? Dispatch has been updated. >> 224 We got that vehicle stopped. >> Yeah, I was going to say the first thing that that officer should do is update everybody get stopped because there's a lot of uneasy feelings going on between the supervisory staff because they've got to figure out if they're going to let this thing go on or not. >> What are you doing? >> What? >> We've had our lights and sirens on since I-95 and you've taken this long to pull over. Any reason? Huh? Okay. You're driving all over the road, too. You're not maintaining your lane. You almost blew through that red light. Are you having any kind of a medical emergency? What's that? Okay. Do me a favor, shut the vehicle off. Shut your vehicle off for me. >> Okay, if you didn't pick up on that, he asked him to shut the vehicle off but he took a big swig of his drink, whatever it is in that cup holder. He's got a sippy cup in there with a straw and he took a big swig out of it. This is one of the things that an officer uh uses for observations, by the way. Like he's he has First of all, he's mumbling, incoherent. The officer will put in their report, I asked him if he had a medical emergency, he said no and he cannot follow simple instructions to turn the car off. >> Turn the car off. It is a very simple thing I'm asking you to do. There you go. >> My keys. >> Let me Hand me your keys. >> No. >> Hand me your keys. >> No. >> Okay. >> This is not the time to become non-compliant. >> Step out of the vehicle. Step out of the vehicle for me. >> Uh >> All right. So, you'll understand too because this is important this is another observation that will be used in the report to determine the state of consciousness [snorts] of this driver. Watch how he gets out of the vehicle. Does he need help? Does he use the door? These are the kinds of observations they make. >> You okay? >> I still got to get to the office cuz I haven't >> You're good. >> had >> Come on. You all right? >> No. >> What's going on? >> I >> What's up? >> What? >> What's going on? >> Okay, here's a fine motor skill thing like like you can move your hands independently, but he goes to fix his glasses and he needs to bring his other hand up. This is a an indicator of impairment. >> I I I I I I don't know. >> Well, I asked you if you were all right and you said no. >> Correct. >> So, what's going on? Why aren't you okay? >> Uh >> Another observation or indication that they'll use for DUIs is when he's standing still is he swaying a little bit? Well, he's not only swaying, he's leaning against the car and he can't even stand up straight. >> All right. >> Why aren't you okay? What's going on? You having any kind of a medical episode? Do you need any kind of medical attention? Are you >> Yes. >> Okay. For what? Are you diabetic, epileptic, anything like that? >> Yes. >> Which one? What's hurting right now? We're going to get you medical. We're uh we're here to help you. We just want to know what what's hurting. >> My back. >> Your back? What's hurting you? What do you need medical attention for? They're on their way to come see you, but we got to tell them something, right? What can we tell them? What's hurting you? >> My lower back, yeah. >> Lower back. >> Is it okay? >> Is what okay? Your back? >> Yes. >> I don't know. Typically, your back doesn't make you act like this, though. Is there anything else going on? What's up? >> I think you owe me. >> Did you All right. When's the last time you ate? >> I don't know. >> Huh? What did he say? What should be his medical? >> Yeah. >> All right. What are you diagnosed with, partner? >> What >> Do you have seizures? >> Yes. >> Yes. Are you diabetic? >> Yeah. >> Okay. Are you having any kind of a medical episode with your diabetes? Hyperglycemic, hypoglycemic, anything like that? >> I don't think so. >> Okay. Were you trying to go to the hospital? >> No. >> Okay. I have experienced a a a driver who was having a diabetic episode before. It started the same way. He was all over the road. A person called it in to 911. I happened to see the vehicle. I stopped the vehicle. As I was stopping the vehicle, it drove onto a sidewalk and into a set of hedges. That's why I couldn't go any further. And when I talked to him, he had like there was a weird fruity smell coming from his breath. I couldn't really didn't think of it as alcohol, but he was confused just like this. >> Where do you live at? >> 30 90 >> Where's your ID at, partner? You don't have to grab it. Just Where Where would your ID be at? Do you have it on you or is it in the car? If it's in the car, don't worry about it. We're just going to grab it for you. It's right here. >> Yeah. >> All right. So, what's got What's What's going on with you, Mike? Cuz you're you're driving all over the road, okay? You ran off the road a couple times, all right? You about Well, no, it's not fine. That's why you're being stopped. And then we had our lights and sirens on behind you. You weren't stopping for us. So, like what's what's going on? >> I I know what you say when you say I think I'm not allowed >> We got an ambulance coming to check on you, man. But again, we don't really know what to tell him if you're not really giving us much. >> I don't know what I >> I don't need to know either. Something like what he just said. This is bad. Poor guy. >> Are you on any kind of medications like for your back? >> I I think I I think I take various >> Okay. What What kind of medications do you take? >> How would you How would you use I don't know what it is. >> Do you take like Is it prescription medication? >> Yes, sir. >> Okay. Is it like painkillers? >> Yes. >> Okay. I got you. And you take that cuz you have back pain? >> Yes, sir. >> Okay. How long have you been taking those for? >> 10 years. >> 10 years? Okay. What I'm trying to figure out is, you know, the normal person, they don't just almost run through red lights and swerve off the road. So, I'm trying to figure out what what's going on with you. >> I don't I don't know, sir. >> You what? >> I I think I was wrong. >> Okay. So, what would be the What would be the reason that you >> I don't know. >> He >> [laughter] >> He was trying to steady himself with the door and he missed after he scratched his hair like an ape. >> [laughter] >> This guy is bad off. My guess would be a a combination of prescription medication and a lot of alcohol, but I don't know. I wasn't there. >> Are you feeling okay like mentally? >> No, I I think I might be. You don't know what you don't know what >> I'm just trying to figure out what's going on right now, man. If you didn't hear him, he said, "I swing a hind a thing king hung." >> Do you want to talk to him? >> For what? >> Do you want to talk to him? >> As As opposed to what? >> I know you said great like it's in a bad way. >> What? >> You said great like it's in a bad way. >> What? >> Mike Mike, you said you're diabetic, right? >> Yeah. >> Okay. They're going to check your blood sugar, okay? >> His face His face went too sad. Uh he was like, "They're going to check your blood sugar." And like his soul left his body because he was thinking, "I might be winning this. Like I might be convincing them." And then he was informed, "Well, they're going to check your blood sugar." And he just went >> sugar is too high or too low, then we got to get that fixed, right? It's not safe for you to drive in that condition. >> They're going to help you out. Just give us a second. We're bringing them up to speed and then uh >> Mike is currently seeing a few door frames. Uh he can't seem to grasp the one that's metal. He's grasping the one that's vapor, but uh he does see a few door frames. >> Hey, boss. >> Hey, we got a call. This guy is driving suspicious and they might be drunk. >> Okay. >> We got to go out with him. He comes >> out of the car stumbling and then he's saying he's a diabetic, but we can't really smell anything. He's not really telling us what's going on with him. >> All right, we'll check his sugar and everything. >> All right. >> Do some vitals real quick. >> All right. Sounds good. >> Yeah. >> Sounds good. We're so close. >> Yeah, I know, right? >> What's your name, sir? >> What? >> What's going on? >> Why don't you sit down? >> Ask him. >> I'm sure >> Yeah, yeah, yeah. They've done it before. >> Mike, come on out of the car. We're just going to go to the front of my car right there, okay? Just the front of that car right there, okay? Okay? Oh, he's pooped. He needed to take a rest. >> [sighs and gasps] >> Oh, Mike, this is bad. So, here's here's the thing, Mike, okay? Our medical staff checked you out, okay? Right now, there's your blood sugar is fine, okay? You are presenting symptoms of what I believe are consistent with impairment, okay? Whether that be alcohol or narcotics, okay? Right now, what I'm going to ask you is are you willing to perform standardized field sobriety exercises to dispel my concern of you being able to safely operate a motor vehicle. >> No. >> You are not willing to perform field sobriety exercises. >> So, uh I What What What? I'm I'm cool. >> So, if if you if you refuse to perform standardized field sobriety exercises, okay? >> What's that? >> I'm going to make my decision based off of the indicators of impairment you've already presented to me, okay? And said indicators may >> Yeah. >> be used against you in court, okay? I'm giving you a fair opportunity here. Do you want to perform standardized field sobriety exercises? >> It's cool. >> Huh? It's a yes or no, Mike. Do you want to perform field sobriety exercises? >> I said yes or no. >> I'm That's what I'm asking you, yes or no. >> It's a yes or no, Mike. And Mike is like, yes or no. I just gave you a yes or no. >> No, I I said that, though. >> Okay, and I asked you again after informing you that if you don't want to perform field sobriety exercises, okay? >> Cool. >> That I'm going to make a decision based off of the indicators of impairment you're presenting to me now. >> I said yes. >> You do? Does that mean yes you do want to perform the exercises? >> What do you mean? >> Do you want to perform field sobriety exercises, yes or no? >> Yes. >> Okay, I need you to step out of the vehicle, okay, so we can perform >> I can't >> I need you to step out of the vehicle. You were just able to get out, okay? >> No, I was not. >> You were. You were standing over here. We're going to walk back to my car over there. >> Fine. >> Mike, step out of the vehicle. >> I can't do that. >> Mike, you're going to have to one way or the other, okay? We can do this easy way or the hard way. >> Please do that. >> Okay, so >> I'm being a I'm I'm a jerk. >> I I understand, but by you not being willing to exit the vehicle, okay, I'm going to take that as a refusal that you do not want to perform standard SFL sobriety exercises. >> Refusal. >> I'm not I'm not going to keep going back and forth with you. You can You can step out You can step out of the vehicle and we can perform field sobriety exercises. >> I'm not I'm not doing that. >> I'm going to ask you one last time to step out of the vehicle. I'm going to ask Listen to me. >> Here's the drunk loop. He is perseverating on the word refusal. Refusal, refusal, refusal because he's not putting two and two together that if you're unable to do this and you're refusing to try, that's refusal. >> I'm going to ask you one last >> an [ __ ] >> Mike, step out of the vehicle. >> I can't What are you doing to me? >> Hey Mike. >> What? >> Come step out with us real quick. >> I can't. You can't. You can't. You did it once. You can do it again. I believe in you. Let's go. >> He's like a little kid. Like I I don't you know and I'm not even being facetious when I say this. Like his his this intoxicated. I mean this is a very high level of intoxication in my opinion. Uh we'll see what happens. >> There you go. There you go. You're good. >> [screaming] >> Okay. I think we've seen most of what we need to see here. >> Mike, you were you were you were just standing up. >> Come on. >> Do you have any problems? Any medical history? >> Yes. >> What are they? >> I've told you 40 million times. >> He has told them 40 million times that he has medical problems, but he won't really explain what they are. Just you know overall thinking here, I'm glad that EMS stuck around. I'm glad that we're in a hospital parking lot because there's no way that any jail is going to accept Mike here as a prisoner. He's too intoxicated. Like it could it's like dangerous levels. He's not it's completely incoherent. >> Mike, are you going to stand up or not? >> I'm trying to >> Okay. Why don't you put grab grab the door. I'm not being an [ __ ] I'm not being an [ __ ] >> I'm trying to >> Okay. >> Thank you, man. >> Okay, so [laughter] the corporal is trying not to smile. I'll I'll be kind. Mike's trying to give himself the old heave-ho uh with the door and the ground. I don't know if he's going to break dance or what, but he's having a lot of trouble here. The corporal, the guy with the two gold stripes, is not laughing, but he's laughing. >> All right, Mike, we're going to help you up. How about that? Bring your knees up. Bring your knees up. We're going to pick you up. You have one? On your bus? >> No, but I can run to the hospital and grab one real quick. Do you guys want me to? >> Yes, sir. >> Go get a wheelchair. >> I mean, he's going to be It's up to you. >> Okay, the corporal just said I smell it now. He can smell the alcohol. Um this picture of Mike on the ground, he looks kind of like a chalk outline from a crime scene. I think Mike should probably frame that photo with the three cops standing over him, his driver's door open, and him laying on the ground like a crime scene. >> Come on up, bud. >> So, you guys out of mind getting that wheelchair for him or can I help you walk into the one of the cars? >> Come on up, dude. Come on. >> Let's Let's Let's see how far we get. >> Come on. Do his legs work? There you go. Yay! >> They are now treating him like a kid, cuz it seems to be working. >> All right. You can reach out to the car. Look at that. >> Hey, hit subscribe if you like this stuff, but I've also got this other channel called The Comp Center. It's true crime cases from the 911 call to the verdict. Check it out. The link is in the description. >> [crying] >> All right. Man. Good job. Working legs today. I got it. >> Never skip leg day. >> [ __ ] I'm not being an >> Hey, you are >> hole. >> Nope, not yet. >> You. >> Okay. Well. >> You, man, you're you're behind your back. >> All right. >> All right. >> Okay. >> Oh, yeah. Yeah, yep. Absolutely. >> Look at him showing his ass. >> You I'm an I'm >> I'm just being honest. >> Mike, you're under arrest for driving under the influence. >> Oh, great. You're >> I know I'm an a >> Well, there's like two facts. Like, you know, you can call me an A-hole all you want. You can call me a B-hole if you want, but there are two facts here. You think I'm an A-hole and you're going to jail. >> The wheelchair, right there on the sidewalk. That's actually coming onto the the road right now. >> Stop. >> Okay. All right. >> That's a fancy wheelchair. Are we sure that's not an office chair? >> Let's see. >> Oh, my god, please. >> Sit back. >> That came straight from the nurses station with a with a footrest built in. >> Sit back. Go on back, Mike. Bend your knees. Bend your knees. There you go. >> Now, he was arrested for felony DUI because it's his fourth. He had three prior convictions. He was also charged with two counts of failure to obey law enforcement. The back pain and the medication are what he told deputies on camera. Nothing here confirms any of that.
