During my 29 years as a police officer in Florida, I learned the loudest denial is usually hiding something. >> How are you? >> Somebody picked up my kid from daycare and I don't know who it was and nobody's answering their phone so I can't pick him up. >> Elsa? >> Okay, so this is where it's important to ask clarifying questions because what she said is somebody picked my son up and I don't know who it was. Is she saying, "I'm not sure who who picked up my son, it's somebody I know." or "My son was picked up by a stranger at daycare and now I can't find him." >> Nobody told me that he was going to pick him up. And nobody's answering. >> Welcome to the USA your voice mail. >> Who was picked up by sometimes? >> My mom, my granny, and my brother and I've called all of them and nobody >> So it's one of those three for sure. Was it a guy or a girl who picked him up or did they tell you any information? >> anything. I don't know anything. >> to have told you something. >> I dropped him off and then I went to go pick him up and he's not there. >> Did they tell you anything? >> Is mom there? Is mom with Please, can you tell me is my kid there or not? >> Okay, this is kind of the intoxicated irrational behavior. This is the behavior of somebody that's drunk. Let me know what flavor of car freshener that is. It looks like black ice to me. >> Where's the the father? >> He could be working. >> He working? Does he Does he have custody of the kid? >> Yes, 50% >> Okay, is it there a chance that he has him? >> No. >> Have you checked with him? >> It's not his It's not his week. It's not his week. It's not his >> Right, but we we got to rule out all possibilities here. >> I don't have his number. He doesn't like to have me on a number. I have to text him through Venmo. Literally, I have to do a comment through a through a little payment through Venmo. I don't have direct contact with him. >> Okay, this young mother of a child who's two. She's 21 herself, I think, right? And the only way that she can communicate with the father of the child is through a comment on Venmo. So, he's even he's just like, "You want me to read something of yours, you're going to have to pay me." >> Did you go to work today? >> No. >> You don't work? >> I do work. I just didn't work today. >> What did you do with your day? >> What did I do with my day? I took him to daycare, I cleaned up my house. >> Anything else? >> Your call has been >> you want me to say? What are you What are you fishing for me to say? >> Because the manager said you picked up >> I did not pick up him. Are you kidding me? >> There's no media help. >> Okay, this is starting to get a little creepy. Um >> [clears throat] >> they called the daycare. The daycare says, uh she picked up the kid. >> Why would I be freaking out if I had >> We don't know. They're saying they don't have >> Obviously, they don't have him. Somebody else >> Your yelling is not going to help the situation. >> Jesus Christ, you got to be quiet and listen. >> I can't. I can't. You guys aren't listening to me. You guys think I just what? I just dropped him off somewhere? Are you kidding me? That's the only mother in my life that means something. >> Okay, that to me is a huge red flag {slash} admission. That's what happened. She just told them what happened. What do you think I picked him up and dropped him off somewhere and just left him there? She's fishing to see if that's what they think. >> First of all, they said that they released the kid to you. >> To me? >> That's correct. >> They're lying. >> talking. Second, your family's saying they don't have him. >> Where is my >> You? >> Yes, I allegedly know that, but did you pick him up from daycare? >> No one's picked him up. >> That's what I thought. >> Well, hi. What What's going on? >> Hey, so called in saying that um she went to the daycare and the kid wasn't there. Allegedly, the daycare said they released the the kid to to earlier today around 3:00. Um we're just trying to figure out Does the work at all? >> I I I I I guess. I don't know where she works. She She's never I don't know. >> Okay. >> But she does She told me she has a job. Wait, where where is Who Does she Is there Is there a family? Is there Is there Is there her mom? Her Her grandma? >> Uh she tried contacting her family or her family says they don't have the >> All right, this is the father of the child and he is having a natural reaction. He's nervous. He's panicking a little bit. Like, what what is going on here? To me, it kind of like solidifies that if there is some kind of foul play, he's more than likely not involved. However, you always You You can never rule it out. >> you and I. Do you think it's possible that picked up and then left him somewhere or forgot about it? >> Is she drunk right now, officer? >> Does she have a substance abuse problem? >> Uh she She drank a decent amount before. >> We're getting somewhere. Is she drunk right now, officer? Like, he answered a question with a question, but the question he answered with was the answer. >> How recent is that? >> 10 months. So, I I don't I don't I don't I don't know. >> And you said she has a substance abuse problem as far as alcohol since you've known her then? >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> Okay, I'm I'm fishing right now. Do you Do you should I pack up and just drive around or like what? >> I I honestly, I don't think that would probably help the situation. What I can do is Can I grab your phone number just in case I need to contact you again? >> Yes. Yes. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. >> Okay. It should It should be It should be pretty evident in a few moments here. >> What is it evident? >> The camera. The camera. The camera will show. >> I'm going to get in there right now. >> She's coming. She's coming from West Dallas. >> I don't care. Come faster. >> What time did you drop him off? >> I dropped him off at >> 11:30. What time were you supposed to pick him up? >> I was supposed to pick him up at 4:35. >> It is 8:00 now. >> I said no. >> Why were you late? >> Why was I late? >> Mhm. >> I was on the phone. I just My mom said that she was going to pick him up and then I called my mom and she said she doesn't have him. So, I I don't know. >> But, what were you doing? >> I was I was crying my eyes out because you have no idea that I've been put through right now. So, I've just been depressed. I've been crying. I I don't really know what you want to hear. >> When's the last time you drank? >> Last time I drank, probably 2 days ago. >> 2 days ago? Did you drink a lot or a little bit? >> Like medium, I guess. >> Medium, okay. Do you have a history with any alcohol or drug problems? >> smoke weed. >> But, she only drank medium. >> I don't do it a lot. Like I don't >> Okay. >> Okay, so these questions are challenging her stability and at that point she this is an uh-oh for her. This is like a uh-oh and you can see that her demeanor has significantly reduced. >> What did he say? >> No, we're just trying to go out figure out all angles right now. >> I think I think you're lying. >> Okay, that's fine. You're welcome to your opinion. Where do you live? >> street >> Okay, is there anyone else home there? >> No, I live by myself. >> By yourself? So, you're saying there's no possibility that at home? >> Why the [ __ ] would he be at home if I'm not there? >> I'm I'm just asking. >> He's a 2-year-old, not even 2 years old. Why would he be there if I'm not there? >> Just a question. You said you were supposed to pick him up at 4:00 or 5:00. >> I wanted to pick him up at 4:00 or 5:00. My mom >> Quick one, if you want the follow-ups on these cases plus trial updates and some of the dumbest criminal stories I come across, that's the Off Duty Report. Free, links below. Okay, keep watching. >> Your mom picked her up. >> Okay, it doesn't matter. Where the is he at right now? >> You think I magically know? >> You seem like you do. You want to say that I I must be a I don't know where my kids at right now. >> are very suspicious. >> Suspicious for what? >> Well, you're claiming your missing and they're saying that you picked them up. >> I want to point out that for those of you that remember, this is kind of how the Casey Anthony case started. Personally, if I were the supervisor on the scene here or if I were the shift commander or something, I would get the detectives involved pretty quickly. In this case, not necessarily because I think that something bad has happened to this kid, but it's happened before. And we definitely want to Time is definitely not on our side when we're talking about a missing child. >> She stood by China right where you were. >> Okay. >> Wrote her email down. Had her one arm and pictures from our picture day, the proofs in her other hand. >> Does she only have the one >> Mhm. >> Do you guys have cameras in here or anywhere? >> No, unfortunately, no. >> I got the manager here right now. They did not have any interior cameras, but she's confident it was in fact her that picked her up and she signed her out at 4:14 p.m. >> And I have a witness. I have two witnesses, actually, a parent and a teacher. So. >> Okay, do you have a like uh file with other Mercy contact? We're just trying to get in contact with them. >> I am. So. Here's the thing. I'm enrolled in I'm enrolled >> Okay. >> separate weeks. So, this is a mom week. >> Okay. >> But, I have a dad file, too. So, I don't know whose file you want. >> We've uh I guess mom, we've talked to dad. >> Okay. He's his not with him. >> And she accused him of once already, so. [clears throat] >> That's interesting. >> I mean, I can show you his classroom. >> Um, can you send a teletype to to KSO to go over to else. This one has um, accused him of the child before. Um, but she appears to be a little 96, but we got to start crossing off some things here. According According to the manager here, there was multiple witnesses here that saw um, come here to pick up the kid at 4:14 p.m. today, but >> It's kind of weird cuz she dropped off at like 11 something and then she picked up super early. So, it was kind of strange for her to pick up that early. >> They want to say that I picked him up. I'm the one that picked him up. The lady at the desk said that I picked him up. I never picked him up. I dropped him off. >> All right, let's talk a little bit about human behavior here because this is the same thing that I just talked about with Casey Anthony. She's perseverating on this. They're saying I picked her up, but I didn't pick her up. And she's just focusing on convincing everyone in her orbit that she did not pick the child up. What she's not doing interestingly is turning her anger towards the cops with why aren't you looking for my kid? Where is my kid? I want to know where the child is. She's doing more damage control than she is trying to find the kid. And that's to me a red flag. That's a good indicator that she knows exactly where the kid is or unfortunately she has done something bad to the kid. >> Can I talk to you real quick? Do you know the lady that lives in right here? >> Uh, not really. >> Not super well? >> Not super well. >> Have you seen her >> Uh, no. >> No? >> Um, Okay, so about how long ago we heard a lot of pounding, like a lot of pounding on the wall about 2 hours ago. >> So, around 6:30? >> 6:30, 7:00 ish. >> Okay. >> Ish. >> Would you allow me to check your phone to see the call logs with mom and brother and make sure they're not answering? >> Okay. So, here's the start. 6:53, that's probably Oh. >> Which one am I looking at? >> From granny up. >> Um >> And then it sounded like somebody got thrown downstairs. >> Someone got thrown >> Oh, no. >> Or fell or fell. >> Like durr and then bam right after that. >> Have you Have you seen her before? Like in general? Okay. Did you see him like walk into the apartment at all today? >> No. >> No. You haven't seen him today? >> Not at all today. And then she like we heard once we heard that like tumble down the stairs, um she took off like a bat out of hell out of this parking lot. >> Yeah, squealed the tires and everything. >> Everything. >> From 6:30. >> Okay. >> There's a 5 mile an hour limit in here, too. She like smoked it. >> And yeah, this is her door, but it Yeah, I'd say 6:37. >> You guys heard loud thuds and >> Yeah, she got out of >> [laughter] >> like a 2000 >> A gray vehicle? >> Yeah. >> It's like a brown or like tannish. We're looking for the truck. >> Oh, no. >> Yeah, so I don't know. Yeah, actually we have the sheriff's department going to that address. >> Okay. Thank you. >> Can you be honest with me? >> Yeah. >> I smell alcohol on you. >> Okay. Yeah, I did drink like a couple shots, but >> A couple of shots? >> obliterated. I still had to pick kid. >> that. When did you drink? >> About 4:00 No, not even 4:00, 12:00. >> 12:00? >> 12:00 or 1:00. >> Now, remember, she picked the kid up at 4:14, and she just slipped up, said 4:00. Then I mean 12:00. >> Where were you drinking? >> My house. >> This is Sergeant Camilleri with Watch Out Police Department. How are you? Have any mental health issues at all or alcohol or drug problems? >> Mental health, I would definitely she's having some sort of episode just because I recognize the signs from my own issues, but she'll never How do you How do you force somebody to get help? >> No, what about She said you were supposed to pick him up around 4:00 or 5:00. Does that sound accurate or no? >> That was tomorrow. I'm supposed to pick him up. >> Tomorrow. Got you. >> Yes, she allegedly dropped him off earlier when I spoke with her. She said that she had dropped him off at daycare and and I said, "Well, did you have to work today?" And she said, "No, but daycare costs the same regardless." And I said, "Well, that makes sense cuz then she can get the house cleaned." And now I wasn't supposed to get him till tomorrow. >> Okay. >> After I get done with work. So, I'm usually done at 3:30 and I'm I'm to Waukesha by 4:00. >> So, there was never any communication about you picking up today? >> Not for today. It was for tomorrow. >> I got you. >> I mean, we can walk the building just >> Sure, yeah, let's might as well. I Not that I I 100% believe you, but at this point this is one of the more unusual calls I've ever taken, so >> too and I I just worried about I'm not going to be able to get >> No. I got you. >> So, >> So, she took him from this room, walked him out the hallway. >> To the office, talked to me. >> Okay, then left the office and went out the doors we came in. >> And I have a teacher that was standing in the office with me. >> Okay. >> And a parent was also standing there. >> Okay. >> Um cuz they were waiting for me to get off the phone with my daughter. >> Hello. >> Hello. >> You guys seen a small brown walking around, maybe 3 years old? >> I mean, there's a lot of kids that are >> Was that mine, though? >> None that you guys don't recognize? >> No, I mean I just got a phone call from and asked me if I can go to her house and check if he's there. >> Okay, so >> that's all I know. She's crying and >> Can you call >> right now? For Yeah. >> So, technically I can't go in the residence without her permission. >> Right. >> Um I'm here to check up to see if there. knocked a couple times. >> if she's there? >> Just call her real quick and if she gives us permission, we'll we'll go in. >> that drives a brown Buick? >> Yeah. >> So, she went flying out of the parking lot earlier, hit the speed bump, and did a 180, and almost hit the tree. >> Around what time? >> That I do not know. A neighbor just told me, but I can get that information. >> Okay, the thing is that's the neighbor that he probably just spoke to, also. Um, I'm going to push back just a little bit with the officer saying here. He's worried about the constitutional search and seizure issue of the Fourth Amendment. Like, she has an expectation of privacy, blah, blah, blah. We need to get a search warrant, something, or I have I have to have her permission to enter the house. >> So, smile and wave at the >> go. I need to make sure my kids are okay. >> You're okay if I go into your house, then? >> Yeah, go. >> How do you How do you know her? >> Um, my mom is very close to her uncle. >> Okay. >> Yeah, I have no idea any of this is going on. I was actually in bed sleeping. >> Okay. >> And >> Is that the key? >> Yeah, that's what it's open with. >> not even >> No. >> Oh, no. Let me ask you something. Was that you? What's the Oh, you have a >> Yeah, I have the flashlight. >> Honey. >> Bury her under the jail. >> Hey, I've got you on speakerphone. I'm in your house. I have I have Yep. Yep, he's not even He was >> Hello, this is Sergeant Kennedy with the Waukesha Police Department. How are you tonight? >> Not not the best. >> Yeah, I hear you. I hear you. Okay, we we've found >> Okay, where? >> Okay, he was at residence in the >> Then why was she freaking out? >> We don't know. >> No, we don't. >> We're trying to investigate that. And now, obviously, you're the you're the correct >> Yes. >> I'm guessing Like I said, we run this all by but I'm guessing you would want to take custody tonight if that is >> Yes. >> Has like a substance abuse problem as far as alcohol? >> That is I know. I mean I've >> Not that you know. >> No, I mean sure family functions and stuff. I mean he'll have a beer or something but nothing that >> I just ask because of the Bacardi that down there. The bottle. >> Oh. >> And obviously it's a kind of an odd situation where you pick up your you don't know where >> Well, that's what you right isn't that how they said that she was peeling out of here? >> Yeah, she took off extremely quickly is what they were saying too so >> So right now what I would like you to do is just administer a breath test to see if you're good to drive. So we already know your pre-test safe. So let's >> Yeah, you're going to take me to jail. Let's go. >> Keep breathing so There you go. Blow. There you go. You were a 226. >> Mhm. >> Very high. Way over the 0.08 legal limit. >> I hear you. >> We're going to place you under arrest for DUI. >> She is three times the legal limit right now. >> Can you turn off >> That's beautiful. Here you go. That's beautiful. I love it. It's beautiful. >> Can you walk to the front of my car over here? Come on. Come on. Come on. Come on. >> Come on. A little bit faster. >> Come on. There you go. >> Let's get this [ __ ] done with. >> Are you able to call somebody to pick you up from the police department? >> Sure, maybe. Can I have my phone? >> Yes. Who do you have in mind so far? >> My mom. >> Okay. All right, put your feet down. >> My phone's on top of your car. Grab my phone. Can you grab my phone? >> it. >> Thank you. Put your feet down. All the way down. Let's get going. Oh, you want to act like you can't hear me? That's all right. That's cool. That's cute. That's hilarious, actually. >> Let's go! >> Uh let's take a quick poll here. Does she uh look like the lead singer of Poison back there or does she look like uh Garth from Wayne's World? Let me know in the comments. >> Let's go! Let's go! Let's go! Let's go! Let's go! >> I'll bet any money she is a Packers fan. >> Put your feet down. >> Let's go. >> We're going. Put your feet down. >> I'll go once we leave. >> No, put your feet down. >> I don't know how to do that. >> Yes, you do. >> No, I don't. >> You don't know how to properly sit in a car or I'll put you in the restraint chair. >> Let's go. >> Then keep your feet on the floor. >> Did she get arrested? >> Um she did. >> Okay. >> Okay. >> know if she's going to be released today or not. >> So, do I call her mom to come and pick up >> No, we're we're contacting protective services. Um we're going to inform them of the situation and they're going to kind of dictate where he goes. I I would assume if I had to take a guess he would probably go with protective services. >> I just want you to know them daycare little were lying. I did not pick up my son from daycare. Otherwise, I wouldn't have freaked out as much. You feel? >> Okay. Happening far too often, but it's uh it's it or it's quite possible to ratchet those handcuffs all the way down and it still be loose enough for them to get out of their handcuffs. [clears throat] Now, this is a very dangerous situation because now she has a swinging piece of metal and she's already exhibited uh some irrational behavior. >> What are you doing? No. Put your hands behind your back. >> Very lucky sh- that he caught that as quick as he did. Very lucky. >> You're under arrest for operating a motor vehicle intoxicated, the offense, which is a forfeiture offense. You're also under arrest for child neglect, okay? >> Child neglect? >> Correct. >> Are you >> Let me let me explain this to you. You have two options right now, okay? You can either comply with the officers in the booking process. If you comply, they will allow you to call a responsible party that's sober to come pick you up tonight. The alternative option is you do not comply and you get shipped over to the Waxahachie County Jail to be held for 12 hours. >> Why am I >> the Those are the Those are the only two options. Those are the only two options. I'm not going to >> You need to understand. Why am I going to say yes to something that I did not >> This guy on the right saw that she had an A and a B and she chose like seven. So, his reaction was, "Well, I think it's time for the black gloves to come on." >> I got two options. All right, cool. All right, cool. First option, baby. >> Okay, if you resist or cause any problems with the officers, you will be immediately put back in the squad car and you will be transported to the Waxahachie County Jail.
