During my 29 years as a law enforcement officer in Florida, I've watched people run from a ticket. Rarely ones like this one in Ohio who kept going after the tires fell off the car. >> Go ahead. Traffic stop. Planet Fitness parking lot. I'll get your plate in a second. Is it a temp tag? Howdy. >> I know I'm expired. >> Yes, sir, you are. >> I'm on the list with the cat in the car right now. >> Okay. You got your ID on you? >> Yeah, my plate is >> Yeah, it just expired by what, 3 weeks? >> Yeah, I mean, we're home. I'm home. I've been home since that's been that home. Yeah, I'm trying hoping we can shower. >> I have a question. Let me know in the comments, what would Jesus do? >> Planet Fitness. My brother is going to send me a screenshot of his QR code. Hopefully get us in there to shower. >> All right, I appreciate it. Do you have your insurance with you, Mr. Montgomery? You got your ID with you, ma'am? >> No, my I My ID got stolen. >> What's your social? >> What's that? Probably in the cat. >> Oh. >> Here's meow. >> What's your social, ma'am? >> I don't know if I have it, but I can get my social security card. >> Yeah, that'll work, too. Any firearms in the car while I'm speaking with you, Mr. Montgomery? >> No, ma'am. I don't have no weapon. I mean, well, a pocket knife. >> The cat's not going to jump out, is it? >> Yeah, he will. >> Can't find your social right now? We'll just go with your name and date of birth. >> Stacy Montgomery. >> I'll be back with you in a minute. >> She's 42 years old. You know, they don't know their social. She's 42 years old. She's hiding something or she's got warrants or something or >> Hey, just keep an eye on them. All right, male driver is the listed owner. Still working on trying to figure out who the female passenger is. >> Did you find her or no? >> No. >> So, she's got the social. She found it. >> You see she found it now? >> I'm going to look I'm going to try a different way of finding her. You able to find that social or no? >> I'm trying to help him find the insurance. >> There's like a cat in the car. Is that going to be a problem? >> I don't know who she is yet, so I'm still working on it. >> Why don't you keep looking for your social, see if you can find that, okay? So, we can get yours. >> Hello. >> Mom. >> Hey. >> I need you to send me a picture of my insurance. I'm pulled over right now. >> Why'd you get pulled over? Speeding? >> No. >> Oh, okay. Hold on a minute. >> even been told why. >> Shouldn't be able to find it. >> Okay, hold on. I hope it don't hang up. >> You haven't been able to find it, ma'am? >> Oh, not yet. Sorry. >> Does your phone work when it's not connected to the car? >> What do you mean? >> Like if I ask you guys to step out, will it work while she's outside the car? >> you mean asking me to step out? What did I even get pulled over for? >> For the expired license plates, which you said you were aware of. >> Yeah, and I I'm glad I get that fixed. I understand >> Yeah, no problem. I just I can't find her information, so that's why I was going to ask you guys to step out of the vehicle. >> And Our car looks like it come and go. And are you even legally allowed to say >> Absolutely, yes, sir. >> Because of the tag? >> What's that? >> Because of the tag? >> Am I legally allowed to ask you to step out? >> Me, no, no, no. Her, are you I know you can tell me to step >> Yeah, I can tell both people. >> Yeah, but you're asking me. >> All right, I can kind of fish you. I'm searching you. Location is suspicious. I'm asking you at this point, yes. >> I know I'm asking in a nice professional >> I'm kind of feeling like like all these cops are here for what? Like what is going on right now? >> that we have a I have a backup officer and >> There's seven cops here. >> There's not seven cops. There's three cops and a ride-along who's a college student. So, three cops, not seven. >> You know, I don't even know what I did. >> Okay, you're not wearing your seatbelt, so I'm I'm allowed to identify you. >> It's buckled behind you. That was very slick. If you're familiar with stop sticks, you know that stop sticks are very dangerous because you have to employ them when the chase is going on. There's an officer that literally has to throw the stop sticks out into the middle of the street and then hopefully the suspect runs them over and then quickly the officer has to reel them back in so the other officers don't drive over the stop sticks. There's also a little spike strip that you can put underneath the tire if you are getting that feeling. >> [laughter] >> Apparently, this officer is getting that feeling. >> your name and a birthday, ma'am. It's not coming back to anybody. >> And I don't know why. That's what I am. >> Okay, well, most people at the age of 41 would know their social security number. >> Most people won't and I don't. I just said >> I'm asking you both to exit the vehicle. Roll the window up and exit the vehicle. >> Roll the window up? >> Yeah, so your cat doesn't get out, dude. >> I understand. What Why am I being asked to remove myself from my home? >> It doesn't matter. It's still a motor vehicle, okay? I know you're sleeping in it. I understand that you're telling me you're homeless, but it's still a motor vehicle. I can ask you to exit, which I'm doing that right now. So, right now it's me asking. So, I'm asking you to exit the motor vehicle so I can figure out who she is. I'm going to have my partner over here run his canine around your vehicle. Okay? The That's why I'm asking you, okay? But, I need to identify who she is, okay? You're not helping your case right now. But, right now is an ask, okay? I don't want to get to the tell, and I don't want to get to the make portion. So, I'm asking you. Yeah, I'm trying to be cool. Get in your car. Got a flat. Well, look, that vehicle's taking off. He's running on flats. He went over the Terminator. I like that the equipment is called the Terminator. I do not like running this fast as a police officer through a dense shopping plaza. They're speeding to get away. You can make up the time on the road. That's just a brief analysis on the police officer's performance. I mean, like, they did what they thought they needed to do, and they could have been driving a safe speed. It's my preference what I would like to see. We're in the back lot of Shergate. He's going towards Lakeshore. My engine there. Going through the construction zone. I lost him. And going through the light. >> Thank god there were no workers present. This is probably the one time where the construction zone actually worked in the officer's favor. You know, my only concern would be he hit something in the construction zone and flips into some of those other cars. But, let's see where he goes. That civilian >> [laughter and gasps] >> literally ran a yellow light. Like, ran a red basically just to get in their way instead of yielding to them. Woo! >> [laughter] >> He just missed either the tree or the pole. I can't believe it. It was like a field goal. My rule, and it was taught to me as a young recruit, you need to drive about 80% of your abilities. You need to leave 20% of your mind to look out for other people. Then, you also need to reserve a little bit of brainpower for when the vehicle stops. The driver ahead of you that's trying to get away from you is working on 100%. Like they're at 100% of their driving abilities trying to get away. They think this is Grand Theft Auto. You as the officer need to work about 80 85% somewhere in there. >> Can you advise will be facing continues east. Throwing out the windows. Throwing stuff out the window. >> [laughter] >> Officer in the fog of war said the S word right over the radio. Dish. >> Going up the street right now. He's throwing drugs out the window at Douglas over bridge. More stuff out the window. >> Oh, man. >> Into the Lowe's parking lot. You ready, buddy? >> Boom, there you There you go. Good job. Oh, we're >> [laughter] >> chasing him on the grass now. That was literally his tire that went rolling off. He can't be getting too far. >> Rhino lost it. >> Dark blue. It's all I got. >> Rear tire fell off. Damage control fell off. >> Come on. Jesus Christ. Willoughby, get out of the way. >> Okay, I'll echo the officer. America, get out of the way. Like, it's very hard to try to explain this, but you may In and I understand that you may not see them until they're right up on you, but when you're at this level, like when you're trying to process the stuff this quickly and you're driving at that speed, people just do not get out of the way. >> Isaac, let me get around you. >> You can hear the dog just He's ready to go. He loves to hear those sirens wail, I guarantee it. What's the dog's name? Let me know in the comments. >> Both currently smoking meth in the vehicle, I can see it. >> [laughter] >> You ready, buddy? You want to get that man? You have more spikes. You can get them out. >> So, even the guy avoided the spike strip, but the officer had to avoid it too, because that's what happens a lot of times in these pursuits. We lose police cars to spike strips. >> We're going toward downtown Wilshire. Let him go. Let him slow down, Sean. Let him slow down, Sean. Just back it off and turn your lights off so he slows down and we're going to >> He's doing 70 at one rim. >> He's crossing over, you know. >> All right, let it go. Base, you can advise Manor he's coming into their city. He's going 60-70 through Vine Street here. We're going to let him go. He was throwing out numerous baggies. There was a whole book bag he threw out and other items. Base, you need to let Manor know they're both extremely high. >> They went up Laurel Canyon toward 84. >> Just drive, dude. >> I'm trying to check. You want me to go straight? You going or All right, he lost something. I'm trying to check. >> Okay, what happens is sometimes in these municipalities, like you can't cross over into a jurisdiction, which is kind of a fallacy because there's doctrine that says that you can. But there are also like inner city agreements where sometimes other cities don't like you playing in their area, so >> He's saying he went eastbound on drive. >> We take course of action. >> Yeah, the gentleman I spoke with is uh pointing me with that way. >> Show me just passed. It looked like a crash into a house. >> Just give it back there. They hit the house or no? >> They took my car. >> It's a 2018 Nissan Versa. >> License plate >> they just took a >> 2018 Nissan Versa. >> It's white and it went eastbound from this location. I'll give you the address here in a second. >> Are you okay, ma'am? >> I'm shaking up. >> Okay, were you in your car? >> Yeah, I was in my car. >> Okay, he made me get out. >> a gun or anything? >> They had a crowbar. >> So they turned right on 306 and they started >> We're at a whole new level now. This is an armed carjacking because he had the tire iron. >> Heading south. >> No, I checked through uh Township in the wall. Contact you. >> Oh, they got it. >> Got it. >> Got it. >> [clears throat] >> Looks like they're going to Chester. >> They're all the way at 6 and 306. Do you want me to keep heading that way just in case they wreck it out? >> I'll I'll keep heading that way and I'll scan them and I'll see what whatever I do. >> All right, we're going on a field trip. >> And you write your 15-page paper today. About how you almost lost your 16-year-old daughter. We jumped this >> It sounds like someone's chasing it right now. >> Okay, that makes me feel a little uneasy. Like this is um you have a college intern with you. Now they sign a waiver. 99.9% of the police departments in the United States are going to make you sign a waiver if you're going to do any kind of ride-along and I'm sure it's part of the criminal justice program at the local university, but that's definitely on the administration of whether you're going to allow that car with that person continue in the pursuit. You as the officer need to make a decision. Am I going to be part of this and put them in danger and expose them to this or are we going to have to drop out and let somebody else take this cuz you can't put them at risk. >> Driver behind it. They're going into Chisholm right now. >> know how they got this far on three tires. >> I don't know where they're going. >> Yeah, I don't think they know either, but >> Every freeway we're avoiding. Who chases and doesn't go on a freeway? >> Right. >> This is it? LET'S GO. >> ALL RIGHT, THE KEY TO A GOOD STOP stick deployment or spike stick deployment is you got to get it into the right lane and then you've got to be ready to retrieve it one like I said, but you also keep your hand ready to go in case they try to evade it and then you can pull it under their tire. Got it. Got it. >> I think I only had one successful hit on the driver side. >> Unfortunately, you damaged your car a little bit. >> I hate to say it. >> Did you get him or not? >> And he said it's smoking, so I can't imagine it's going to last too long. >> Oh, no. >> I'm picking up the bags and stuff I found up here. >> Yeah. >> I found something. >> What did find? >> knife. Okay, you tell me where it's at and I'll come get it, okay? >> It's down there on the sidewalk. I'll show you exactly where it is. >> Okay, I appreciate it. Passing Washington, speed's about 40, 45. Traffic's light and we're down to about 35. He is going left of center without any traffic in front of him. He's going to want my keys. Driving left of center just like he's trying to go at a car but he's always pulling back off. >> All right, if he's going left of center, shut it down. We know where he is. I'm left of Giant Eagle here, shutting it down. >> He's going left of center because the police are following him. This is something that people, even cops, can't comprehend. Like the risk versus the reward of staying in this pursuit is very high. So, you're taking a huge risk for a very low reward. >> Now, he just pulled into Giant Eagle, Mike. >> The other factor to consider when running through this pursuit is what's the density of the traffic, what speeds are they traveling at, and what are the weather conditions? Because you can see it's starting to rain here. So, the roads are going to be a little bit more slick and that means the people around you can't stop as quick as you need them to and neither can you. >> Trying to carjack somebody else, looks like. All right, there goes sheriff's car now on the lead. Tried to carjack another car, I think. All right, keep following him. All right, he's driving behind the business here. Ah, man. Okay. All right, we'll do it. He's trying to carjack another car now at the gas station. Hey, hit that subscribe button if you're into this stuff. I run another channel, too, though. It's called the Com Center where we cover true crime cases from the first 911 call through the verdict. It's worth checking out. The link's down in the description. Don't get out of the car. I said, don't get out of the car. One at gunpoint, one on foot. >> Babe, I I had no chance. I came out here to try to do the right thing. That's a fact. I'M HOMELESS. I JUST WANT TO SPEAK TO YOU. >> YEAH, WHAT'S UP? >> SO, LISTEN. Please let me kiss her. >> I can't do that. >> Yes, you can. >> This is not what Jesus would do. I can, but I won't. >> Yeah, why don't we go? >> We're going to do it again. >> I'm dead anyways. I'll be dead in 10 minutes. >> Okay. >> All right. Go in first. Show me your feet. Time to shoot. >> What will it be? We will be like the car. >> The female was driving? >> You're all right, ma'am? >> They won't let me kiss them. >> No, sir. >> Why? >> She's in a different car. >> Just a traffic stop, but then he crashed into a car in North City and carjacked a car. >> What's your girl's name? >> Stacy Montgomery. She's my wife. >> Okay. >> Hey, this is so tight. That's going to >> Okay, we're going to switch it up. >> Ma'am, sit up. Hello. Sit up, ma'am. I need you to SIT UP. MA'AM. >> HEY. HEY, SHE GOES IN. >> I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU GOT that far on those rims. I mean, >> Yeah, I don't know. And that car was janky as hell, too. >> That's my >> His foot is >> Where are your clothes? >> According to her, she says she has stress-induced seizures. >> We just checked her out. We totally did. >> [laughter] >> She came half hour ago. She's conscious and alert. This is that stress. >> Yep. >> That's the jelly. >> Yeah. >> She's got the fake seizures for >> Last thing I want to do is 45 minute ride back and she's flopping around on that gurney. >> So, what were you guys throwing out the side of running? >> I said Any guns? So it was just drugs? So now it's not drugs? >> No, it's cat drugs. I said whatever was in your car. Just random >> Our fire department's policy is that we can't search them. Do you want her stuff? >> She doesn't seem right. >> I'll be like I said, I'll I'll be right behind you, too. >> How you have $8,000, legit money, and nobody want to rent an apartment to you in the hood? >> It just is, that's what it is. >> What's the longest pursuit you've ever done? >> Uh that one. >> Really? >> Jacob Montgomery was charged by Willoughby police with aggravated robbery, robbery, grand theft of a motor vehicle, and vehicular vandalism. Plus there were some separate charges through Willowick for failure to comply, obstruction, vandalism, tampering with evidence, drug possession, and traffic offenses. He was already out on parole. He had an open burglary case, so he was held without bond. Stacy now, on the other hand, was booked on drug possession, tampering with evidence, obstruction, and paraphernalia. On the robbery and carjacking counts, the prosecutor determined the charges weren't warranted for her, but she had other cases to deal with anyway. The cat was found under the driver seat, checked out by a vet, and turned over to animal services. He's cleared of all wrongdoing because catnip is legal in Ohio, and even if it wasn't, it would only be a meow-sdemeanor. If you like this video, watch the next one.
