When scammers realize they've been caught. >> No, I can't do with that money. I can't do that money. >> Who did that? >> Why would I do that to me? >> So, what are you saying? Who do what to you? >> You're saying you are with him? >> You're saying you walked out with this check? So, what are you doing here today with this? What are you trying to do? >> My landlord gave me the check back cuz he I guess he changed his mind about letting me move in. So, I was trying to cash my check. >> Where's your landlord? >> My phone in the car. That's why I was stepping out to get my phone. >> Where you live at? >> So, I'm just trying to get my rent paid in my Forging checks is a pretty serious offense, buddy. >> Man, I know, man. I wouldn't do nothing like that, bro. Like, >> so tell us who you got. >> Mel Alexander, >> give us a give us a phone number. >> Can I get out of my car? >> So, >> I'm trying to get like what's what's they saying going on? So, my money's like >> Well, tell me what's going on with the check because >> I mean, clearly you've dealt with it. You've seen the original check, what it looks like. So, what's this check? >> I thought that was the original check. >> What is the check? >> Where'd you get it from? >> I got it from here and then I turned it to him in to my landlord. It was for first month and last month, right? >> You have any proof that you gave him the check and that he gave you this one back. I mean, >> you see, you see where we're coming from, right? I mean, you have a completely different looking check. >> You have a big difference, sir. I see what's going on. >> And then now you have >> and and that's playing with my life. >> And then with And then wait and then around the same time frame you both go and open up a bank account here. >> Any of that. I never knew he was doing any of that. >> He goes and cashes his cashier check. You get a cashier check and then now that cash your check is missing. And then now you come back with a falsified cashier check. Can >> you tell me who my second is on this? So why would I do that? >> You you get what I'm saying? >> I get what you're saying, but did you why would I come in here with with and do that? >> Grab his number. >> His name is Earl Adam. >> Oh my god. >> So he's your landlord. So >> he he would have been, >> but I guess he changed his mind. >> So he gave me the check back. >> Okay. So how did you find the place? >> Find what place? the place to rent out that you wanted >> uh through a friend. It was on Por Street. >> Okay. So, what's the address? >> Uh Street saying he >> So, what's what's the address for the place? >> 1210, I think. Por Street. >> Okay. So, what was this original RB Garrett Street that you just gave us? >> That's uh where I was moving out of. Well, we asked you the place that you were trying to move into, and then you gave us that >> RV Garrett address. >> That's where I stay now. >> So, which address is it? Because you're giving us two different answers now. >> I stay in the uh 601 RB Garrett. >> Mhm. >> That's where I'm at now. And where I was moving to was on Por Street. So, I bro >> Well, if this is a house you're supposed to be moving into, I mean, you got to have something of paperwork. You got, you know, maybe you should know the address because you're trying to move into it. >> It's 1210 Pori Street. >> Well, it can't be 1210 Poria Street. That's right off Pennsylvania. And Pennsylvania is right in front of the hospital and there's nothing but work buildings around there. There's no apartments. There's no >> It's right across house. >> It's right across the street from Highway. >> Can I talk to the manager, please? >> What manager? What for? You just went and talked to her. She called us. cuz I just wanted to see what's going on. Like what she's saying that >> you brought in a fraudulent check. Okay. >> Why did I do that? >> Well, it can't be 1210 North Pori cuz that the address doesn't even exist. So, what's the address of this place? >> Cuz you don't have the landlord's number. >> You don't have any of his information. You don't have the house that you're apparently trying to use this money for. or apartment. >> So basically you saying like I just got played. >> What I'm saying is is you made a fraudulent check and you brought it in trying to get money. You should have his information. If you're not if you're not the one that brought in this fraudulent check gave me the wrong information. >> Okay. What do you mean gave you the wrong information? >> He gave me the wrong address, wrong phone number. Like I see what's going on now. I I definitely he was responding. >> There's nothing about the wrong address, wrong phone number. It's about you brought in a fraudulent check. >> Well, I he was fine. >> And that's what I'm saying. Where'd you get the check from? >> Yeah. >> Okay. So, if he's the one that gave you a fraudulent check, what's his phone number? Where's his address? What's the address of the place you're trying you were trying to get into? >> That's the That's the address I got. >> Have you went out and seen this place? >> No, sir. I see what's going on. She just said he made an account here. Like I just got played. That's basically what just happened. Like >> Well, I need you to find his information. >> I don't need that paperwork from the house or >> right now. No. Right now you're a suspect to this. So I need you >> to give me this guy's information if you didn't do anything. >> 16 in a row. >> You have text messages with this person? something with social media. Oh, >> only met him one time. >> Okay. >> Well, you said you knew you got the information on this place that's for rent through a friend. So, who's this friend? Who are you calling? >> I'm right outside. >> Well, don't worry about calling them. >> I'm trying to get the paperwork. >> No, don't worry about that. We can get to that point. emergency here. >> Well, you probably need to call a sergeant after this, right? >> I never dealt with one. >> Yeah, that's I got a lot of info. I just don't know what to do with it. I like Okay, here. Lay it on me. What do you got? >> Clearly forge signature. Clearly fake check. I talked to an invest a corporate investigation supervisor. >> Mhm. >> They deal with this all the time. >> Yeah. >> They make a fake check, try to get cash. >> Yeah. So, well, I mean, you guys are right now. We have a frauds uh unit, I want to say. Listen, you haven't been able to give me a person, phone number, the correct address, proof of anything with any of this. Like, you haven't been able to give me anything of what you're saying, and you're beating around the bush scrolling around your phone, not even looking at anything that's number >> related to it. >> You just started giving me a number. This whole time you scrolled at least three pages on your phone call log trying to give me a phone number and you haven't been able to this whole time. >> All right. >> Let's let's put in call Sarge after. Just hang on to that here for right now. Stand up. Okay. >> You got anything else inside your pockets? >> No. >> Okay. Here. Let me see your phone. >> Take the phone. >> What? >> Just go and turn around. >> Turn around. >> We're just We're detaining you for right now. We're going to do this out of the public, okay? We're going to handle this privately so that we're not in everyone's business for now. >> Right now, you just detained. We're going to figure everything else out. I just want to get us out of here. Okay. >> All right. >> Whatever. Find that information for you. >> Well, give us a second there. Just take a seat. >> Just Just wait a second. All right. Watch your knee. >> Okay. Listen. Listen. Okay. Just breathe. Hey, just breathe. Just breathe. Right now, I have nothing else to go off of. I got you here trying to cash the check and the story is not making sense. Okay. So, we'll go over. Okay. Just we'll go over. Okay. Let me read your hand and we'll go over. Okay. >> Yeah. At this time, knowing your rights, do you want to talk about this? Is just so I can talk to you about why we're here and everything else. That's That's it. >> Okay. All right. I I just I just want to understand the complete thing and everything that took place. So you end up giving him the check >> and then you said he had a problem with the check. >> He made it seem like there was a problem with the check >> and he wanted me to cash it, but then he just gave me the check the check back. >> I didn't notice there no difference on the check, sir. Or I would never came in here. I'm gonna instantly claim for fraud or something, man. >> So, you asked him to cash he asked you to cash the check, right? Okay. Go on from there. >> So, right now there there's nothing on our side. You walked So, the problem is you walked in with the fraudulent check. You tried to cash the fraudulent check so you can get the money back. Correct. >> Okay. You You walk into an establishment. You're in possession of the check trying to cash the check. Okay. >> So, right then and there, I have enough probable cause for the arrest on it. Anyways, >> but wait a second. But then at the same time, on top of it, you have, you know, your side of everything that took place with a person you have no phone number for. Um, >> so you have no phone number for, no address for him, and then uh no correct uh no correct address for uh place of ranch. I could see your side of it, but on my side, I have to go off what I know, right? And listen, if you are completely innocent and everything else, you have your side of it. Listen, from here, >> I have Listen, I have your side. You have any You have a track record at all with law enforcement. Ever been arrested before? You have been arrested. What for? >> Traffic. I'm on probation right now. >> And then you have the warrant for uh from Fazwell County right now. Okay. All right. So, this is what this is what we're going to do. Okay, just just wait. Just listen. Okay, right now I'm going to send you out for what I can for what I have on it. Just listen. Okay, I'm going to contact Tazwell County and let me let me explain the reason on why this might actually it's not nothing this is going to help, but it might quote unquote help. Okay, just bear with me. I'm going to send you for what I have for just this. Okay. After that, Tazwell County, if they if they confirm this warrant, you'll go out to Tazwell for whatever that warrant is. That'll give myself and our detectives enough time to follow up with hopefully and figure out if it was him involved or you and him or get more information on top of it. That way, if you are clear-cut free, the charges and everything can be dropped from this. Right now, there's nothing on my side that I can do. Okay? I have enough on my side. I've done the detective work before they can get here. They have enough on our side that they said they want the arrest to be made. Okay. So, right now, I have to make the arrest no matter what. >> Nothing I could say or >> There's nothing There's nothing you can say or do right now. But like I'm saying, you get arrested today. Tazwell takes care of your warrant that you have at the same time. So, after you're done with us, you get released. Let's see what's today. Monday. You'll go and see a judge tomorrow morning. You'll probably get released. You'll get released probably into Tazwell's custody. They have to pick you up within 72 hours after your releasal from Peoria. I'm pretty sure it is. Um, and then after they pick you up, you'll go out to Tazwell for your warrant. Okay. After you serve Tazwell's time of probably just getting a notice to appear date, maybe. Or you'll sit there until you have your court date. I don't know. That'll give us enough time. >> But that'll give us enough time to do everything on our side so that maybe if you are clear, you didn't do anything wrong, your name could be cleared off of this. or if you're involved, then we'll go from there. But you get what I'm saying. As much time as this sucks, it's terrible, and it doesn't help you at all. The best I can do is to send you out so that Tazwell also picks you up. So that way you have the most time to where there's nothing going on to where that court date that you have for this situation is extended a little bit. So there's enough time for detectives and myself to put stuff together to see if maybe your name is cleared from it. Okay. Like you're telling me has happened, right? That's the best I can do. All right. >> Just take a >> Eric. Give me a second. Give me a second. Give me a second. >> I missed another officer out with a barricaded subject. Jacob Harris. They're requesting you respond. Let's get the phone. >> The phone. >> Thank you. >> All right. >> Thank you. A couple of at least three or four people. He was transported to jail facing charges of uttering a forged instrument and attempted fraud. Both felonies under Florida law. >> Hey, how are you? >> What's up, boss? >> Mr. Green. >> Yes. >> How's it going? I'm >> all right. How are you? >> Have this young lady looking up. >> Hi, Mom. Miss, stop. >> Okay, >> my friend. Maybe can you come here for a second? >> Stop talking. >> Just wait with her. Wait with the Where's partner? >> He's doing something with that guy. Made me do it out there. He's waiting on me. >> Yeah, she came and opened up a deposit relationship. ID is fake. >> He's waiting on me. He made me do it. >> What guy? >> Can I show you? >> What guy? He's out here. >> He made me do with that guy out there. >> Can I show you? >> One second. One second. >> I'm scared. Please don't take me to jail. Please. I have three kids. >> What guy? >> Oh, but I'll give you >> Is he in a car? >> Yeah. I'll show you. Please. Cuz I wouldn't have sex with him. Please. Please. Please. I'm scared. >> Okay. Go ahead. Stand over here for a second. >> Please. >> Yeah. She came in yesterday to open up an account. Um the system flagged it. We told her we needed proof of address and she left came back and she brought this. She lives in New Jersey. She says Google address. It's a hotel. It's a Maran hotel >> and she's giving me a con bill. >> Is this her actual ID? >> Not a fake. >> This is a fake ID. >> That's a fake ID. Terribly fake. >> Is this the picture is her though? It looks okay. before. >> So, was she able to >> You got her information in the system, but we didn't open an account. >> Okay. And this is hers. >> Yeah, that's her phone. >> Maybe somebody's messaging. I mean, while I was opening their account, helping the process, >> she basically just confessed cuz she said he made me do it. Made me do what? >> Yeah. >> Yeah. >> So, she wasn't successful in opening any account. There's no money. Just she's trying to open an account with this ID >> using a fake ID. >> Okay. Stop holding your bag. >> Oh, I'm sorry. I don't have anything. >> I don't know that. >> Stop running your bag. >> Where'd you meet this guy? >> Okay. And then what happened? >> He told me that I would have sex with him. They got a sex ring and he made me come in here. >> Okay. 1729 coming in as an elevator alarm. >> Don't go in your bag. >> No, I was giving you my phone. >> I was giving you my phone. >> Stop going in your bag. Okay. >> Okay. >> Please give me a chance. Please, please. >> So, tell me more about you met him online and then what y'all When did y'all meet? >> Yesterday. >> Yesterday. Okay. Where? >> Here. >> Where's here? >> Here. he made for me to come over here. And he said, he said, "You're not going to do this with me. You got to go with the bank." And I have a regular job. I work at Dy Danny's. >> Okay. So, this is your home. >> Yeah. I show him. I did. He just told me to come in and open a checking account. I didn't do anything else. >> So, you Why? >> He gave me that. He gave me that. I could take your right to him. I'll call him right now. >> Please don't take me to jail. Please. I didn't do anything. Please. >> Please. Please. Please. >> Stop. >> Stop. >> Who's this? >> He's right. He's right down the He's right down the >> Is he in a car? >> No, he's walking. There's two of them. >> What are they wearing? a blue jacket and the other one has like on black. I'll call him and get him to come down. >> And who are you to them? >> They just they tried to Can we step right here? He tried to get me to have sex with them and I wouldn't. And he said that I had to come in the bank and he gave me that information. I didn't I don't have any money or anything. He said that I needed to come open my account and I don't know what they want me to do. I haven't done anything yet. Um, >> where's your where's your what's your name? >> My name is My name is Monnique. >> Okay. Where's your actual ID? >> I don't I don't have it, but I >> You have nothing. >> I have nothing. I do have something with my name on it. >> Okay. So, provide that to this officer, please. >> Here's me. Number 29 Planned Parenthood on a 39 general. >> It's my alcohol license from Georgia. >> Can I get it out? >> Does it have your picture on it? >> Yeah. I'm just nervous. >> Just hold on. >> Please don't take me to jail. Please. I'm not going to jail. Please. >> I don't know. My boss is here now. So, let's see if he's a nice guy today. Hey, wait. Please. I don't do I don't do anything. >> Okay. >> Please just give me a chance. >> So, you met I thought it was one guy. So, it's two guys now that you met yesterday online. >> Where on Reddit? >> On Reddit and then you guys met here in >> Monontlair. Can I be honest with you, >> please? Just embarrassed. >> Okay, I understand. >> I understand. I'm just >> I understand. >> I was younger than what is. >> Okay. Oh, the people you met. Okay. >> 40. And I told him I was younger than what I was. >> So, I was going to give me money to like hang out with them. >> Mhm. >> They told me I had to come in the bank and help an account. >> So, where'd you get the idea from? They gave it to you or you >> No, I don't know how to do that. Okay. >> All right. >> I don't know how to do that. Please give me a chance and I'll never do anything like that. I didn't know what I was doing. >> Okay. >> They just told me to come in. I didn't even know the information. I had to look on my phone to get it. >> What information? What do you mean? >> Like the ladies in I don't even know who that is. I was just trying to hang out with some guys and get some money like but not like a criminal way. You know what I'm saying? >> What's going on, man? You're being recorded. Just letting you know. All right. >> Okay. >> Is that your real information? >> No. That is >> Do you want her yet? >> Oh, no. >> What happened today? >> I met with these guys online and they told me to come open a checking account. How'd you get there? >> They paid for my Uber to get here. >> Where do you live? >> And l >> I just want to go home. I don't know. >> Yeah, we're we're going to bring out here. >> Thank you. >> I don't know anything about this. I didn't know anything about this. So they give you >> sorry that with a different name. >> They give you a picture of myself. >> They give you a utility bill that's clearly not thought you were doing something okay. >> No. They told me I had to do it. >> Or what? >> I don't know. >> Can we accept these people? >> Yeah. I'm scared of them. No. I'm not even from here. I'm from Georgia. >> I thought you're from Lers. >> That's where I live. Yeah, but originally I'm from Georgia. I don't know anybody here. I was just trying to hang out with some guys. >> Where'd you meet these guys? >> Online. >> We're online. >> On Reddit and there's a whole scared. >> Please. If you come with us, they won't be getting you. Are you going to go to jail for? >> I doubt forever, but we'll see. >> What's your address? >> You want to go inside? >> Yeah. >> I want to go. >> You want to see what we just stay in a hotel right now, so I don't have a real address. >> So, you don't have an address? >> I just moved up here. >> Okay. What would be your last known address? >> Um, in Georgia. What is it? You don't know. I'm sorry. I thought you live in London. >> Yeah, I stay in a hotel there. Yes. It >> seems like your story told me every 2 minutes already. >> No, I'm not going to be there 90 seconds. Can you Google this? >> If the hotel told me not to. Please give me a chance. I won't ever talk to anybody again. Please, please give me a chance. Please, please just let me go home. Please, please, please, please, please, sir. Please. I don't want to. I just want to work. I have a regular job. >> Where do you work? >> At Jim Danny's and Rutherford. I work at a barbecue place. I just want to go home and work and never do anything bad again. Please give me a chance. Please. >> Oh, no. They redid it. They redid it. I'll show you where I got my direct deposit. I just got my direct deposit from them. Yeah, >> I'm not going to jail, >> man. Respectfully, stop stop asking us, >> right? Don't be mad at me. >> I'm not mad. It's just it's just we don't know yet. So, you're asking us for opportunities, give you a second chance if you're going to jail. We might get information that we walk you out of handcuffs right now. We may get information that doesn't allow. We don't know. If >> you have warrants, you're probably coming with us. Probably. I don't know. If you don't have warrants, I also don't know if you're coming with us or not. But the chances are more likely than not that you're going to come with us. So, let that settle in. Stop asking us questions. Stop apologizing. Just sit here and hang out just like we're doing. >> Did you give us the correct information? Everything? Your name, your date of birth. Okay. >> And that was your information? The uh social? >> Yes, sir. >> Okay. Yeah, >> calling my boyfriend is not >> Don't call my wife. >> Please, >> you can't smoke indoors. >> Can we smoke outside? >> Sorry, >> ma'am. All right, you're still getting reported. All right. >> Were you going to give me a chance? Miss, what did I just tell you about that? Well, it stands for him, too. >> I'm sorry. >> Stop apologizing to us. Don't ask us for things. >> I've been in trouble before and I just wanted enough money to get out and I just want out of this. I just want >> you cover before, >> huh? >> Why did you get before? >> Because we're going to look it up. So, just tell us the truth. >> I used to have problem with addiction. >> Okay. And I've been calling for a month and 17 16 hours. >> Okay. >> All right. >> Well, she's going to help us. >> I'm going to jail for a long time. >> I don't know how long you might be in tonight. All right. Back. >> Put your bag down. >> You're being placed under arrest. Put your arm behind your back. Let me take your watch off. Miss, would you stop asking us questions? >> Jeez Louise. >> You should have. >> Miss, stop asking us questions for the last time. Okay. >> The answer is no. You're not going to Georgia. You're being placed under arrest. We're taking you to Montlair's Police Department headquarters to practice. You're not going to Georgia. Um, you might be arrested for today. >> Uh, fraud >> for a fake ID. >> Your watch is going in your bag where your phone is, right? >> I'm right here. I'm to the left. I need you guys. >> Okay. Um 204 is going to come right. >> No, right here. >> No. All right. You can have a seat. Watch your head. You got the gun? >> No, I didn't. You got that for me? >> Of course. It's like Jesus. All right. Just grab that me. >> After being taken into custody, she now faces charges for criminal attempt and criminal simulation related to bank fraud. A reminder that deceit rarely goes unnoticed. >> Thank you. >> Hello. >> Hi. >> Doing okay today? >> Yeah. The reason I'm here is cuz we get called about potentially you with some fraud doing some fraud joint charges or trying to withdraw fraudulent money from somebody's account. >> All right. >> Yeah. >> Why is that? >> I don't know what we're here to investigate and everything like that. And so >> Okay. >> I'm not I'm doing this thing. >> You're not free to go right now. >> You said I'm what? >> You're not free to go. >> Oh, >> right now you're being detained. Did did they give you an explanation? >> No. For what happened? Okay. So So what happened was for the the account that the funds that um was trying to get withdrawn out of they were fraudulently like someone hacked into their information and they were fraudulently transferred over to it. And then she was I guess I'm not sure if she was one or someone sent her here. She was here to withdraw the money from the account that were fraudulently uh frauded. the members who we actually contacted and they said they didn't do this transfer at all. They're heading to the Stark branch now to to get their account straightened away because all like they moved money from the members online banking. I'm not sure exactly how it was going >> that happened today. >> Like how long before she came in? Any idea? >> Um it was like 40 minutes. >> Okay. >> Yeah, it was like this transaction happened at like 12:46. The actual transfer happened at 12:08. So, and it looked like they transferred all the funds the member had from the credit card to the check and all the money they had in their savings to checking and then transferred it to her account. >> Okay. >> Okay. How are you today? >> So, I'm guessing you kind of heard a little bit of the conversation there as to why we're here. Justice, here's the deal. Well, what the bank is what the bank is coming up with is they're that they have some some concerns about some funds that you came in to withdraw today. >> Okay. From your account. Correct. And what they're what their fear is or what they're starting to figure out is somehow or another those funds were transferred from one bank member's account into your account. >> Okay. Um I'm going to want to ask you some questions in regard to this. All right. But before I do that, I do have to advise you of your Miranda rights. Okay. Just letting you know that you are detained. You're not free to leave. Okay. You're not under arrest, but you are detained while we conduct the investigation. Okay. >> Can we take it outside in the car? >> Like the police car? >> Mhm. >> Wh Why is it you want to do that? >> I don't want to be in public. >> Huh? >> I don't want to be in public. >> You don't want to be in public? >> Yeah. This is a little embarrassing. >> What's that? >> I said yes. This is a little embarrassing. >> Okay. All right. We'll wait till he like I don't know why it's still there. Yeah, we can walk out to my car. Okay. >> When the officer comes back, let let him know that we're out of my vehicle. >> Okay. I'm going to hold on to your arm cuz you're not in the cop. So, I'm sorry. >> It's okay. right over here. >> Have a seat for me. Okay. Like I said, I do I do need to ask you some questions, but before I ask you those questions, I do have to advise you of your rights. Okay. >> Having those rights in mind, are you willing to answer some questions for me? >> Okay. Like I said, what um what we're being told is is that there um >> fraudulent >> there are some funds that were placed into your account >> that you have now come up here today to withdraw. >> Yeah. >> Is that correct? >> Yes. >> Okay. And and where whose funds are those? >> My friend I'm homeless at the moment. So um I don't really have money for anything. And um the only person that send me money is my dad. And my friend Pat was like she could send me a little bit of money, which that was a little bit of money that um she could give me to be able to like get up on my feet a little bit. >> Which friend are you talking about? >> Shariah. >> The one from Tampa. >> How do you know her? >> I know her from like um I used to live in St. Petersburg and when I was a kid and we just used to play together as kids and we just friends on social media basically. >> Okay. >> And where have you seen her vehicle? Where where did she drop you off at? No, they were parked like um in Publix's parking lot. >> Why did they park all the way over there? >> She was parked I don't know. I mean Oh, they went inside of Publix, I think. >> How long ago was that? >> Um when I had got here, >> so about 30 minutes ago then they tried to call you or anything. >> Like I I left my phone inside of the car. That's what I've been saying the whole time. I thought it would take faster inside of there. When I went to um went to the front thing, this is like my second time here. I'm only 18, so I don't really know how to do this for real. But when I went to the front um thing, I thought that it would be like faster there. Um but the lady at the front told me that I had to go there and I was going to go to get my phone, but then they said um to hold on a second. >> Okay. >> So, who who else was in the car? >> Her boyfriend. I don't know his name. >> You don't know his name at all? >> No, I don't really know him. >> And what's his race? >> White. >> White male. >> Yeah. >> How about Shariah? What's her race? African American. >> What kind of car are they in? >> Uh, yellow. Um, I don't know what kind of car it is. I just know it's yellow. It's like a foreign car. >> Okay. >> Okay. I've got her out here in my car cuz she wanted to come out of the lobby. Um, she's saying that the people that dropped her off here are she said they parked over in the public's parking lot. She's describing the female as a friend of hers. Are you able to you got enough information on your end for the second to go over there and just check the public's parking lot? I doubt the vehicle's still here because I'm not seeing anything that matches it from where I'm standing. But there supposed to be a white a black female and a white male in it. Okay. So, I'm going to back up just a bit. So, this this so you said that Sharia had the money transferred into your account. >> And what what did she say that money was for? >> Um for me for me to be able to get like some food and stuff. Um, I do hair and stuff, so I wanted to >> Why would Sharia give you $2,500 to get food? >> No, I'm explaining what else. >> Okay, go ahead. I'm sorry. Go ahead. >> Um, I do hair and I want to be able to get like more money or whatever while I'm in until I'm trying to get a CNA license so that I could get more money to get a apartment basically and stuff like that. And um, she's trying to help me um cuz she got into CNA and stuff like that. She's basically good enough to get her um it's called a nurses something. Uh it's some type of um medical field thing and she's just helping me get up to that point. But we got close like last year and um she basically is just giving me the money to be able to um get the equipment for my hair. And um since my dad he lives in Tampa too and he doesn't have much money right now either cuz he's at child support and stuff like that. and um I don't get any income from my mom or anything like that or I don't have a job. I've been looking for one but I don't have one yet. And she was sending me that for like you know just food hygiene um just in case I need a hotel everything you know just for that. So, when it comes to this this money that she transferred over, who was it? I mean, did you tell her you needed money and she offered or or how did how did it come about that? >> I was like dancing to her basically about like everything that's going on and stuff and like um my mom and my dad and like you know all the problems in my life and she was just basically like um I can help you and she was like she offered >> okay >> to help. >> So, what was So, once you got the 2500 out, what was supposed to happen then? >> That's it. They were just going to um take me to go get the groceries and stuff, get anything that I need from Walmart and Target and um >> So, were you supposed to give them some of the money or >> No. So, why wouldn't you just use your debit card then if it was money that was transferred into your account? >> I tried to go to the um to the ATM, but it didn't have like an option for me at all. So, I went inside and asked them. >> What would you say if I told you that the funds that were transferred from your account >> um >> were fraudulent? >> I mean, I don't know how I feel. I just know that >> you have no idea what this guy's name is that was with her. >> No, I never met him. >> She just told me that. >> So, can I ask, have you ever >> you ever been in any trouble for anything? You've been arrested for anything or anything like that? What have you been arrested for? >> When I was younger, um I took my mom's car for like a joy ride and um >> Okay. Is that while you were high school age? I see. Okay. It hurts. >> But um what you were saying before though um I know like um that somebody has to get in trouble for it, but I know it's going to be me, but like I didn't um know >> you didn't what? >> Well, I mean, you have a thought going there and I want to know. I mean, I can tell this is obviously upsetting you. cuz I didn't know that this what they were doing. >> But then that's the part that kind of confuses me. So there wasn't You weren't supposed to give them any of the money once you got it out or anything like that? >> No, she just told me that she was going to help me. >> Did she tell you how much money she moved over? >> No, she just said, "I'm going to help you. I'm going to give you some money to get back on your feet. You're going to be able to get your hair stuff. You're going to be able to get everything, some food and stuff. you're going to be able to get um whatever you need to get back on your feet to be able to do what you need to get some money and stuff and get a place to stay. >> And what were what was so what was the thought on was she just giving you the money? I mean, what was the >> Yeah, I mean I do her hair for free sometimes. I do a lot of people in hair for free because I'm still a beginner and um I need pictures and stuff for like clientele, more clientele for when I did want to get serious, but I don't have the products and stuff to be able to do it. So, I only do people here who like have the products and stuff to do it. So, like that's why I do it for free and I do her hair for free sometimes. So, I feel like that's probably why she just wanted to to help, you know, like she has everything that she wants and stuff like that. She already started her career and stuff like in nursing. So, she probably just wanted to help. That's what that's what I fig. And like we've been friends since we were kids. Like I mean I'm a giving person so I would help too. >> So would you um what are your thoughts about them not being here anymore? >> Um I mean I don't know. I'm just scared cuz you know I know I'm about to go to jail but like and I'm hurt because why would they leave me? But I don't know. I'm just ready to get over with everything. I'm already homeless, so I know. >> So, I guess some of the obvious questions are this. Did she show you on the phone while she was transferring money or anything like that? It wasn't you that transferred the money? >> Mm-m. >> No. >> No. I just been I was just sitting in the room. I was just waiting for her to do it and tell me that um they were ready to go to the thing. >> So, instead of her getting the money out of the account herself >> Mhm. She transferred it to your account and then said she'd just bring you here for you to get it out. >> Mhm. >> Does that make much sense to you? >> I'm saying them because they both brought me. >> I mean, does that make much that make that make much sense to you? Really? >> What? >> For her to transfer it to you and then have you come in and get it. And does that make sense? >> Yeah. If it's my money, >> the money that she's giving you. Correct. >> Yeah. >> Was there supposed to be an option? Were you going to be paying her back or what was the plan? >> No, she was You asked me this. I didn't ask you if there was going to be were you going to have to pay her back or anything like that. I just asked you did she give it to you? Was she giving it to you? >> Oh, no. >> There was no no discussion over repaying her or anything like that. >> No. >> No. When the reason I asked, do you think it makes sense? Cuz if she has that kind of money in her account, wouldn't it make more sense for her just to come in and make the withdrawal herself and then give you the money? >> What do you mean? >> Well, if she had money if she had $2,500 in her account. >> Mhm. that she was going to give you and she banked with this bank for instance, wouldn't it be just as easy or easier actually for her just to come to this bank, withdraw the money herself, >> car? >> Yeah. >> Well, yeah. But I don't know. I wasn't thinking about that. But that doesn't make no sense. So, >> I just have a hard time believing that someone who's a CNA who you're friends with, but you know, not like I don't think y'all are like best buds or anything like that. You know, you you hook up every now and then when she comes to town. You do her hair for her. She pays you for that, I assume. When you do her hair, >> like not that much, but a little bit. I don't ask for much cuz I'm a beginner. >> Okay. And for her just to offer you up $2,500 with no with no repayment. You weren't going to give her any of the money. This was just for you to get on your feet. I mean, that's a lot of trust you're putting in somebody for that she's putting in someone. I didn't know that it was going to be that much, but in my opinion, that's not a lot though. >> In your opinion, $2,500 that you just give somebody is not a lot of money. >> I mean, if you have it, then no. >> So, you think she has that kind of money and more? >> Yeah. I feel like CNA you can make that much. >> Okay. Said in the bank you're a little embarrassed about, you know, discussing this thing out in the public like that. Well, what are your feelings on her? I don't know. I'm trying to, you know, like feel like she wouldn't do that to me >> because I can tell you she has if that's if what you're telling me is the truth. That's what she's done to you. >> I explained everything I was going through and stuff like that. And um now like you know being that I'm going to have to go to jail when I get out. I'm not even going to have a phone. I'm sorry. I'm not even going to have a phone. I'm not going to have anything. A bank account, nothing. >> So, your phone, did you just leave it in there or did they tell you to leave it in there? You like just left it in the car? >> Yeah. I didn't even know that I had left it in the car, though, because I forgot that I need my member ID anyways. >> Okay. Right back with you in a few minutes. >> What What's your title here? >> I'm the senior teller. >> Okay. >> Hey, Hector. Um, have you been able to get in touch with the members? >> 59. and the other one was born in 46. >> Yeah, we got in contact with the actual members uh that had the fund taken from them. They were within the Stark branch, Monica assisted them. Um we gave them the report number that GPD gave us. They're going to go ahead and file a report with their jurisdiction at Stark. Um and we've already went ahead and transfer the funds back and perform an account number change for them. >> Okay. >> Okay. All right. But if they're the same fraud people that normally happen, usually they're just the mules and they drop them off and if they take too long to pearl or anything, they sleep. >> Yeah. She's claiming she knows the girl that brought her here though and that's where things are kind of weird. But okay. Well, I mean they're friends. >> Some friends. >> Yeah. Exactly. >> So, um, >> you're friends until every >> Okay. Okay. All right. We'll we'll try them again. Thank you. Excuse me, sir. >> Yeah. >> Um I remember um when we pulled up last night, it's a church across the street from the Airbnb. It's like a I know it's a bank close by the club. >> Okay. But as far as how to get there from there, >> it's like a Wells Fargo and it's a road. It's a It's a few roads. I just don't know exactly what road. >> Okay. >> But I want to know exactly what road because I just want to take you guys there. >> Okay. Let me go and have you step out. All right. >> We need for what? For the um handcuffs. >> Yeah. Step out for me. Put your hands behind your back. You are under arrest. Okay. Do you have anything on me that or that's going to poke me, stick me? Any narcotics of any kind? Any weapons of any kind? Anything else on your person? Okay. All right. Go ahead and have a seat. We have a female officer coming to to do a search on you. Okay. Then we'll go from there. She claimed it was just a friend trying to help, but that favor cost her her freedom as she now faces charges of lararseny grand theft under $5,000 and fraud swindle to obtain property under $20,000 which may now define her future. >> Um, >> hi. >> Can I talk to you for a second? >> Come over here. You don't have any weapons or anything on you? I mean, I have my my pocket knife in here. >> Where is it? >> It's in my wallet. >> Okay. Can you set your wallet down for me, please? >> Yeah. What's going on? >> I'll explain it to you in a second. Put your wallet down for me. Your pocket knife's in here? >> Yes. >> That was on 102. Did you drive here? >> No. I had I had a friend bring me. >> In which car? >> I don't really know honestly. I just met >> You don't know which >> friend brought you here in which? had just met them, but >> Okay. >> Like, am I in trouble? I don't want to be in trouble. Why? >> Well, you tell me. >> So, why would you be talking to me? Like, >> somebody here called us, wanted us to talk to you. Do you know why? >> No, I don't. >> Okay. Which uh one of these cars took you here? >> I really don't know. I don't even see it anymore. >> Well, you you're not even looking. >> Cuz I came in that way. >> You came on this side? What did the car look like? >> I don't know. It was like It was like a bluish gray. I really don't know. >> A bluish gray car. >> Okay. >> So, this is her only check. We called the client. Client car was broken into last night and checks were stolen. >> Okay. >> And that's her ID information that she >> I don't know who they are. They just >> Okay. Did she give a car that she said I'm in? saying she don't remember. >> I don't know who they are. They just they told me they would give me some money if I crashed it cuz I I had a really bad day. Like I didn't >> Come on outside for me. Will come with this officer. >> I didn't know. >> There you go. >> I really didn't know. >> There's a pocket knife in there. She hasn't been pat down. So point out the vehicle. Come and take a look. >> I don't see it anymore. I really don't. I don't see it. It's not here. >> So none of these cars are any of those occupied Marco? No, the only one that was that was a truck that was pulled in right over here when the car pulled in. >> I don't know where they went. They just I'm having a really bad day. >> Put your hands on top of your head and release them. I want to make sure you don't have any other weapons. Okay. You just had a All you had was that pocket knife. What's this in your pocket here? >> It's a tobacco gold. >> Hey, step out of the way. Out of the out of the so people can go into the bag. >> What's your first name? >> What is it? >> Lisa. >> I really don't want to get in trouble. I don't know. You got fuzz, Mard. Thank you. I'm going to make sure you don't have anything else on you, okay? Cuz you got a pocket knife in your in your thing and I'm just going to make sure you don't have any weapons on you. All right? And then we'll talk to you about what's going on, okay? I just I highly recommend you be honest, okay? >> I really don't know who they are. I just I got kicked out of my friend's house today and when I was leaving, they just they offered me to help them. They said they just didn't have an ID. They needed someone to cash the check. I don't even know who they are. I don't know their names. Like, I really don't. >> All right. Well, like I said, uh you can talk to this officer. You can give him, you know, just be honest because if you're lying, we'll know and we'll, you know, she has tobacco in that pocket. It looks like there's some uh in her wallet and she had a knife in there. >> Was there a What were the bags in your wallet? Was that >> There should be no bags before. All right. So, this is what's going to happen. Uh, you're not free to leave. So, this officer is going to read your rights, but we're still going to give you your chance. That doesn't mean you're under arrest right now. We're going to work through this cuz I still don't know what happened. Okay. Marco, would you mind getting a statement from the the bank staff? You >> want to talk to >> uh >> Yeah, we'll have to get the number and everything and follow up. Where is she? Where was it stolen from? It's stolen like from this lady's driveway >> in Lake Mary's already >> who met with her, >> huh? >> Who met with him? Did she go one of the towers? >> She went to the towers and then she sat down in the lobby and we looked at the check. So she met with Sheila. >> Okay. And what kind of made her spark her? >> The signature does not match. >> So on file does not match. >> So that's what cued her to say this is >> okay. Am I allowed to speak really quick? Okay. Which one was it? >> Uh, I'll have it come out. Sheila, can you come out just >> Can you bring your ID too, please? And then so once uh she came to you about it, >> she came to me and Megan about it. I'm the branch manager. So, >> what is your guys protocol from there? Did you reach out to the >> We reach out to the client before we do anything. If the client says she did not write a check to this person, then we call you guys. >> Okay. >> Did you say this like was it just occur? burglary kind of just occurred or >> so. Yeah. So, when I called to ask about the check um and verify it, she said that someone broke into their vehicle last night. >> I think they're missing, but she wasn't sure what. >> So, I guess there was a the checks for the business and then now she just said that. >> Okay. >> So, I don't know what happened, but she said it happened last night, so she had a chance to >> Okay. thing. >> It'll just take a second cuz it was pretty minimal on your involvement. >> Thank you. >> Um, just explain me kind of what occurred. >> Um, so she came over to cash a non-c customer check and the actually the writing didn't look good to me, so I just looked up the and plus it was from Lake Mary. So I looked it up just to see if the signature match and it didn't match. >> Got it. And I'm assuming you guys can look up the the person that has the check. You can look up their signature. >> Okay. And that will cued you that the signature did not match. >> Well, the person that queued me is cuz the check is from Lake Mary. >> Okay. >> So that and then I looked it up and it didn't match the signature. And then that's when I brought the check over to them. >> Okay. Did you say anything to her? Did she say anything to you? >> Um well I tried to keep her here since I knew you guys were coming. So I just asked her about Thanksgiving. >> Did she say anything? She said that she's from she's going to have Thanksgiving in Mims and that her ride is here waiting for her cuz she kept getting up and looking outside and but I didn't see a car cuz she said it was like a four-door car. Four-door. They just got it. It's new. It's either black or blue. It's a four-door. And I asked her who was waiting in the car and she said it's my family from Ohio. >> Did she provide you with an ID? I gave you. Yeah, you gave it to Yeah, I gave it to them. I already gave them. Yeah. She gave me an ID and a PayPal credit card. >> Okay. She seemed nervous to you. >> No, she seems pretty relaxed. Like she didn't seem like, you know, like she didn't realize anything was wrong. >> Okay. >> Um I don't know. It didn't seem like she was fine. She was fine. >> Okay. All right. Thank you. >> You're welcome. >> Um just hold on that stuff and we'll be right back in. Thank you. You was just riding with random people and >> I don't usually ride with nobody random. It's just >> so you don't So So >> I was by the park. >> You was by the park and they brought you up in the cab. >> Yes. They took my backpack and they took my food. I just got done going to Samurai and I got some food. I had my backpack in there. They said they didn't have an ID. They need me to cash it. So, I went to go in here and then I didn't see them anymore after that. >> Okay. So, you don't know who the driver was. You don't even know what kind of car it was. You just got a random car just to ride a random car. >> They said they were going to give me money if I went and did that for them if I cashed it for them. >> Where do you live at? >> But I I just was staying with my friend and then I don't know. got into an argument today and they told me that I had to go to the park or just go out for a little while to catch the bear and then let them cool down. >> Okay. So, you're homeless. You don't have any money? No. >> So, that's why you wanted to help out and try to get some money even though you know you knew better. You're not you're not stupid. We're talking. You're smart enough. You knew you shouldn't have done it. But what's done is done, right? Um are you going to do it again? >> No, I'm not. I'm stupid. All right. >> I don't even know why I got in the car with them. >> Did uh Did you steal it or did they steal it? >> No, I didn't steal it. I really did. I don't even >> Were you there? >> Were you there when they stole it? >> No. >> When did they steal it? >> I don't know. I've never even met them before. Like, that's honest. I don't know who they are. >> Couple quick questions for you. That your ID? >> Is that the check you were trying to cash? >> Okay. >> And the signature on the back. >> But I I really don't know. So, I signed it as soon as I came in. >> Okay. So, why did you >> Okay. And who wrote this on there? You. Who wrote that? This stuff. >> They did. >> They They wrote that for a holiday bonus for $947 and then you signed it back. >> They just gave it to me and they told me when I go in there. >> All right. So, why are you signing your name on a back to a check that you're not supposed to have? >> You know that's a crime. >> I know you know that. >> I didn't know that. >> Yes, you did. You already said you knew you weren't supposed to be doing this. >> I know, but I'm saying I thought that they were just going to give me money because that's what they told me to do. >> With an I >> You also just told me that you was trying to get money for your kids or you said, >> but I wasn't. >> But your kids are not with you. You don't have your kids. Your kids are with your dad, right? >> You see them all the time. >> I do. I love kids. >> Okay. So, but we ask you about you signed your name on this check. How you didn't know that this this was this check wasn't yours? Well, they just randomly gave you the check. You just signed the name. >> So, I I spoke with the the bank teller. This is her information if you want it. I did not speak with the bank bank manager yet. Basically, what happened is she went in and she went and spoke with this lady that is the um the teller and the teller said it cued her that she thought it was odd that the this is out of Lake Mary. >> Mhm. And then she said the signature. >> So then from there she brought it to her uh branch or branch manager. That's when the manager contacted the owner and was like, "Hey uh did you write a checklist?" She said, "No, our car got burglarized last night in Lake Mary and the checks were >> Don't think you're being entirely honest with us. I have a hard time. >> Ma'am, I really DON'T KNOW WHO THEY ARE. I was walking. >> Well, let me tell you something. Along with those checks last night, a gun was stolen. >> I DON'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THAT. I KNOW. I TELL YOU WHERE I WAS. LIKE I HAVE A FOR YESTERDAY. I was not >> What do they look like? What do they look like? The people that brought you, >> they're like the one guy, he was like not Hispanic, but it kind of like looked Asian and he wasn't like >> I don't I honestly don't remember. It was like a blackish bluish color. They parked right there next to a van. And when I looked out when I was in line, they were gone. The one guy, he had tattoos everywhere on him. I don't know who they >> So, why why is what you just told all of us different than what you told them inside? >> I really don't know who they are. >> It was your family from Ohio. I thought >> I said that because she was just talking to me. I didn't know what to do. >> Cuz you were lying to her, too, to try to get the CHECK PASS. >> LYING TO HER, BUT I WASN'T LYING. I really don't know. >> I really DON'T KNOW WHO THEY WERE. >> WELL, you knew what you're doing is wrong. That's why you lied in there. That's why when as soon as you saw me, you said, "Am I in trouble?" And you know, you knew exactly what you're doing. Okay? You're looking at a couple felonies today. You cannot forge and steal money from people's bank accounts. >> All right. Luckily, you didn't. We stopped you. You tried to BECAUSE IT'S JUST SO STUPID. >> I know. >> Why is everything equally wrong? >> Because you can't you can't pass other people's checks. >> People are holiday season. People are want they need their hard earned money. Okay. It's not okay. So, she's saying a group dropped off and that was she was saying the guy with cats or whatever inside uh the bank teller said I noticed the signature was off and it was from like Mary. So, I kind of tried to delay her at the the register, whatever you call it, the teller window. And she was small talking with her. She's like, "Oh, who'd you come here with?" And she's like, "Oh, my family's down from Ohio and that newer car out there." But I didn't see no blue or black newer car here. I only seen the occupied car. I only seen was the Nissan Frontier that was parked over here. But my my thought process it was someone at the ATM jumped in. Yeah. And then they left. There was no other car unless they were parked across the street or see us seen us pull in. >> Some more evidence. She lied up there. She said it was her family from Ohio. So she knew she was lying. Right. >> Right. >> And then uh here she's saying she didn't know him at all. So there's your >> sign. >> Sign the check. She knew it was wrong. But the man bank manager is inside with all the paperwork and she'll be uh ready to talk to you soon. >> Lisa was taken into custody and charged with uttering a forged instrument and attempted bank fraud. Her bond was set at $2,000. The case remains under investigation as authorities work to identify the other individuals involved.
