During my 29 years as a police officer in Florida, I've seen people impersonate cops for a lot of reasons. $2 off of a burger, that's a first. >> This nation right now with Harris, she just gets so belligerent and it's like almost reverse racism with I'm not racist. That's what I said to her so I'm not. I dress like this I'm working Saturday. >> What was that? What did you >> I I work at Publix actually. I work at Publix for over 13 years CDA. I don't know this nation right now. Last time I saw the resident manager. >> Got you. >> And the girl I usually work here tomorrow all the time. She just gives me my discount and she just gives me punch in the face. >> Yeah. Are you carrying right now? >> No, sir. >> Just for my I I don't Okay. >> It's a phone. >> All right. It's It's no biggie. I just wanted to know. >> Fact, I'm on top of the world right now. >> No, you're fine. Do you have your Did he already take your driver's license? Okay. >> She said I can take a picture of her just to say I just want to get a picture of her real quick. I'm going to get her fired. But she was ultimately going to yell at all the guys that see this all the time. Joanna is friends of mine. That's all I'm going to say. I have proof in the pudding. >> So you're here a lot? >> Yeah, I live across the street. I live here in the apartment. >> Oh, okay. I like it here, you know. Yeah. >> But I knew what she drove I wouldn't come when she's here. >> Yeah, why she is a [ __ ] >> She said things to me even after. So it's not like the first time. >> Yeah. >> Like hate, you know. I'm like, "No, I try to be nice to you." I even said to her, "Sorry about that." I just said he cursed at me all the time. I only cursed back at you one time. I shouldn't have. >> Yeah, I mean, taking pictures of people isn't illegal. >> It's not illegal at all. Yeah, I knew that. She didn't understand. I said, "I'm not giving it to you on purpose." That you were working. I didn't give it to you when you were working. >> Well, is she not supposed to be working? >> Uh >> Is she not supposed >> see her in the bar. That's why I didn't I'm like, "God." You guys are all coming today. >> Notice how he doesn't finish the thought. He's He's It's It's all about the observations. Like he's changing the subject with the observations. He's not finishing his thought. She's asking him specific questions. >> Is she okay now? I just I just find it very Oh. All right. Go ahead. Sorry. All right. Reason for being placed in handcuffs One because you're not a real bad guy. If I have a great carry back. >> Hold on. Yes. Yes. But that is not a police officer. >> I know that. I know that. >> Grab your Miranda card. You got it? Give the essay a one. Yep. Just number one. I'm glad I got it on the camera. I'm just letting you know why >> It was on the table. >> Yes, sir. Got it? >> Mhm. All right. You have the right to remain silent and anything you say may be used as evidence against you. You have the right to talk to an attorney and have him or her with you now or at any time during questioning. If you cannot afford an attorney, one will be appointed to represent you. If at any time you wish to stop talking or have an attorney present, all questioning will be stopped at your request. Do you understand these rights? >> Yes, ma'am. >> Okay. With these rights in mind, are you willing to talk to me and any other deputies? >> I got nothing to hide. >> So, tell us what happened. What are you doing here today? >> Today I'm going to get my lunch. I live across the way 49 Lake Drive. I come here all every single day, so What happened to you today? I have a question for you. Are you very injustice? Almost I hate to say I'm going to say it straight out. It's like reverse racism. >> Okay. >> And I was just tired of it. >> So, what started the argument? >> I went to the counter and asked I asked her the one Janet usually gives a like a discount for like a police officer. Just for getting me a discount. She always takes care of me. It's $2 off. >> So, they just give you a discount cuz they know you? >> Pretty much so. Someone >> you don't So, what's the discount from that? >> No. No. No. >> Not at all. How did you get your badge in the first place? >> My badge what I used to One girl always says to me, "You always have your badge with you." Blah, blah, blah, blah. I said, "It's not a badge, though. It's the right to carry." And she doesn't understand what it looks like. >> Why did you take it out today? >> To show one of the girls who works in here. That was it. >> And you never portrayed yourself as a police officer? >> No. No. No. No, sir. >> Just got done telling me that >> No, I said I walked up I used to be used to be I worked for the TAA out of Central in Boston. That's what I was saying. I'm a former >> Okay. >> That's That's what I said. >> what what I'm trying to let you know is that that's what he said. What he said is that you are a police officer. >> No, right now. >> And that is why you wanted the discount. >> No. Let's go up here and get her a statement. >> No. >> So, you want a statement from her? >> Let's get a statement from out there. >> I just want a written statement from the other employee that's working today. >> Sir, this is a Wendy's. >> Hi. Okay. Okay, so >> that he told me that he was a police officer. >> maybe >> a week ago? >> About a week ago. Yeah, last week. >> Sorry. He said he would >> He said he would write one. >> Um what did you witness? Yes, he said >> The first words out of his mouth was, "Oh, I'm going to beat some ass now." >> Every time he see me, he say that. Every time he come in, he say that. It's like he hate me or something. I know Every time he come in here, he say something smart to me. And I'm like, "What have I" He mad because I be like, "Your badge don't look real." Because every time he come, he close it He'll show us and he'll close it. >> Shut it real quick. >> So, when he comes So, when he comes in, he portrays He says The first time he came in He's yelling at >> He came in like a couple like last week. He was like, "I'm DEA." And I was like, he showed me his badge and he showed it real quick. >> So, he said he was DEA and he showed his badge. And then, did you hear him as well? >> He said it over there at the counter. I didn't see the badge, but he says, "I'm DEA." >> He said he was [laughter] DEA in my face like this and I'm like, "Okay, you DEA. Okay." And then, he just went to cuss and cuss all the time. I said, "But, why are you cussing at me?" I said, "All I asked you was let me see your badge." What is that wrong with that? >> You show her and you tell her >> He was the issue and he cussed. So, now we want to see if you a >> Okay, let's uh let's talk about the elephant in the room for a second. There are restaurants that extend a courtesy to law enforcement officers. There's quite frequently convenience stores that allow you to just kind of walk in, take a drink, but you always as when you're in uniform, you always walk up to the counter and offer to pay and nine times out of 10 like certain convenience stores will say, "It's on us. Don't worry about it." And they don't do that for any special favor. They do it because they enjoy the visibility, especially on the midnight shift. They kind of enjoy having an officer in their presence. >> To me, for no reason cuz he was cussing me. I said, "I'm going to call the police." I said, "Because you're cussing and then you're threatening my job and saying you're going to I'm going to lose my job because for what reason?" I said, "I haven't said nothing to you. I was going to give him the discount cuz he get it all the time." But, >> So, how long's he been coming in here? And he bought the the man in the discount like over a couple years? >> Uh Jim been Jim been coming by a year. He was coming here when Jim was here. >> Okay. I know him >> I know him from Burger King, but he's never told us that he was police officer at Burger King. >> But, he just come in here and say he's police officer? >> And got a badge. >> So, over a year >> So, the young lady with the mask on is like how you No, I'm I'm transferred. I don't know if she was like maybe traded or she was picked up on the waiver wire by Wendy's, but she used to work at Burger King. That guy would come in there all the time and he never said that he was a cop there. For some reason when he's in Wendy's, he tells them he's a cop. So, it tells me that he tried in Burger King and they don't give the discount. >> And he wanted a discount and so I was giving it to him until I'm like, but he was doing it to the um >> But don't ever be If somebody If somebody ever identifies themself, be afraid to ask them for identification. >> I did not Today No, today I just asked him because how he did her. >> No, not today. >> Today because when she asked him, she he took it out and closed it back. >> Yeah, you can You can ask for it. >> You don't ever feel bad. Don't ever feel bad asking. >> Yeah, that badge doesn't mean anything without the identification and the sworn certification behind it. So, somebody can flash a badge all day long. You should probably like have the discu- honor it, have the discussion, but you should never feel bad about asking for identification. Their face should match their identification and that identification is what gives the badge the power. >> That's what he told me. I don't have a right to ask him for his badge. >> Is he really >> Yeah. >> So. >> I didn't Do you mind We're going to get some info from you guys? >> Okay. I didn't think so. >> sitting here eating and >> Yeah, we'll get your name and stuff from you. >> She's been here >> running around like crazy doing her job. >> Right. He just said he >> He came in and he's DEA and flashed his badge. >> Well, I didn't see him flash the badge, but I did hear him say he >> Well, he came to the front counter and told me Okay, I'm going to get another statement from for her. >> Do you mind filling out a written statement for us real quick? Cuz he's going to be placed under arrest for impersonating a >> The guy in red's probably going to paint out a statement form. Quick one, if you want the follow-ups on these cases plus trial updates and some of the dumbest criminal stories I come across, that's the Off Duty Report. Free. Links below. Okay, keep watching. >> Didn't I tell you that the other day? Oh, I said We said I said I've been saying it. Every time he comes in here and he's smiling, he's always smiling at us and I'm like, you I know you from Terranova. You work at Terranova. You used to work at Terranova. I know you. No, I don't. I work for the DNA. I said, no, you don't. I said >> [laughter] >> Notice the guy in red. Every time a car goes by, he gets scared. Like he's he's waiting for a drive-by or something. >> I know that's a California police officer. And then you come here and eat every day. If it's not at night, it's during the day. Why you don't ever have on a uniform? That's what I'm saying. You don't ever have on a uniform. Never come in here with a uniform. >> How he's like he's >> So when you fill that out, just put that he came in today, you recognize him prior, he comes in here demanding a a discount for his food. In the past, he's identified himself as a police officer or a DEA agent today. He came in, you questioned the legitimacy of his badge or whatever it is. >> And our um >> And then he got He can start getting an attitude, flashes badge, started yelling that he was DEA. >> I GM'd the last time he came in. I guess it >> And we're going to trespass him for you, too. >> Okay, I'm going to I'm going to give this officer a tip through this video. I don't know if he'll ever see it or not. He doesn't have to follow it or whatever. But if you're going to have somebody write a written statement for you, I used to teach interviews and interrogations. This was part of it, written statement. And if you're going to have somebody write a written statement for you, you should never ever tell them what to write. You should just be very vague in the sense that, "Look, just tell me what happened from sunrise to this point this morning." >> You want to trespass him, right? Cuz he's being arrested. >> Yeah. >> So he >> All right. >> I told you. I said that's a pregnant police >> I'll get you a a statement. >> trying to hurry up and get his car, but the undercover cop drove up and he jumped out of his car. So then he ran over there. And he was trying He was He told the man, he was like, "Can I talk to you without her?" >> Yeah. >> And I'm like, "What? Did you act like that? I said, 'Me and you cool.' And you acting like that? You know what I'm saying? If you're a police officer, why you got to make me move?" >> Yeah. >> You know what I'm saying? >> Yeah. All right. Well, we're going to go do this real quick and we'll come back and get those statements. I'll be right back home. >> What in God's name is that? >> You have to buy it. You can buy it anywhere. >> But like you don't just get it in your conceal? >> No. We're going to search the whole wallet. Especially I mean you're putting it open if you saw real quick. That's what he's doing. >> Mhm. >> Yeah, you can't see it at all. All right. >> All right. >> Sit up front with us. You want to start on your 717 there while we're sitting here? You know what your charges are? >> Um impersonating. >> Yeah. >> What happened to your >> Hey Jesse, where your keys at? >> They're in the truck. >> They're in the truck? Okay, we'll make sure I get >> always are. >> Can you try to lock it up for him real quick and we'll grab the keys? >> Um it's going to be a pain. I hate to say it like that cuz the the door is all busted up to pull up the window and everything else. >> Okay, we'll do it. >> Okay. >> We'll take care of it. >> All right. You're going to push your finger inside with a key or something to pull it up. I've been working on the truck for over a year. >> Okay. >> Thank you. >> Do you have like an evidence bag? >> Yes. Just going to put the wallet in there. We'll put that separate so I don't want to get that to the jail. >> Put it back in her purse. >> Get her up front with us. >> No, you can talk to the lieutenant and tell him to call me cuz he came in the last time. >> All right, yeah. She'll have to call for that. >> In part two of my instruction to these officers, if you're going to have the three people do written statements, it's best to have them do it at three separate tables as foolish as it sounds, but you don't want them talking about the story. You don't want them writing the same thing all three over and over again. What's your favorite part about Wendy's? Is it the salad bar or the sunroom? Because this one looks like it's trapped in time and I guarantee there's still both. See that's what I'm thinking. I mean those statements right there, he's he's saying to the officers with those two present. He was yelling, "Don't worry about what I do." Then he started yelling, "I'm DEA." Well, guess what's going to get contaminated into their statements. Whether they remember that or not, they're probably going to write it down because he just said it. >> Let them come up in the act like that, and I know I need my job. >> Then he said he was going >> I'm not So you took a picture of me and he's like, "I'm going to erase it. I'm going to take it off my >> Yeah, he said I'm going to take it off my phone. I said, "But what did you take a picture of me for?" Why did you take a picture? >> What's that? >> We have to tow it cuz you can't secure it or can't be We can't tow it off of private property. So if you guys want to have this vehicle towed, it's up to you. And since it's on private >> We arrested him in his vehicle, so we're not No, it wasn't in his vehicle. It wasn't in his vehicle. If he was inside of his vehicle when we arrested him, yes, we would be responsible for >> All right. It can't be secured as long as >> Yeah, we don't mean it's private property, so the vehicle's not involved with that or the person in the police custody. Yeah, so if you guys want to have it towed private property, that way >> calling I'm calling my police I'm calling my police I'm calling my manager now. >> Okay, this is an odd situation. It's a dilemma because if with the twist The officer's right. This is private property. You can't necessarily impound this car off of private property unless the the your SD specifically says, "Hey, I want you to impound this for safekeeping or whatever." The deputy just walked in and said, "Hey, we're going to have to tow this thing because we can't secure it." He just said that in front of three people and whoever is at the salad bar. >> Hey, can you have them call you to be a standby so they can get the keys to it or do you want to take it with you? >> No, they can yank it right off the >> I thought they were dispatching I thought they were dispatching you guys. >> All the way to the old folks >> What's that? >> Let's go get the next turn on. >> He was like, "Let me turn on >> That's what the lady said. She was like, "He's leaving." I said, "He's running to his car." She was like, "Well, the police are going to get him cuz he should be pulling up." And that's when you pulled up. I was like, "Cuz he was getting to He was trying to go to his car." Trying to go. I was like, "Wow." >> And she was telling me he's like I don't know what it is now. Is there any He's been doing this for well over a year? I mean, is there any form of like What's that? Yeah, you can buy them online. Yeah, he said he was former military. So, there's no like form of an answer or anything like that. Would that have to like go to trial? >> So, the officer's asking questions like this is not something that we deal with every day. Like impersonating an officer is something that you probably want to get with the old veterans about or like somebody from the detective division or something to that effect because it's a rare occurrence and they're very nuanced cases. If somebody possessing a badge is not illegal. Somebody making a football move with that badge, that's when it becomes illegal. So, if they present it for a reason or they take some kind of law enforcement action, you know, the badge itself is not the the the bad part. The badge coupled with another action, that's when they run into trouble. >> So, he came in today, right? Now, I'm just So, I got to clear that while we're writing this. He came in today, started an argument with you. >> No. He came in and he said he said when he when he came >> So, he came inside here and said he was about to kick some ass. >> Yeah. >> Okay, then what happened after that? >> Maybe he was just hangry. >> That's how he saw but she came she came over there I was in drive-thru handing out food. She say the police officer needed needed a discount he needed a discount. So, I was like sir can I see your badge? So, he threw it in my face and I was like hold on. >> So, he comes to the drive-thru? >> No, right here I was in drive-thru she came drive-thru and got me. So, I came on front counter and I was like he was like Oh, um Something he said and I was like, "Well, can I see your badge?" And he threw it in my face and so I went to grab it and he was like, "Don't touch my shit." And I was like, "Well, then why is you acting like that if you a police officer?" But as soon as he was like >> wait. >> Here you go. What I'm saying is so he had already he ordered food. >> No, he hadn't ordered he wanted a discount. He ordered but he wanted a discount. He wanted me to get discount. >> Okay. >> I was like, "Okay." I was like, "Okay." >> So, he hadn't he hadn't ordered yet. >> He was ordering. >> He was in the middle of ordering. >> Yeah, when >> Okay, that's what I was trying to >> He had no order and she came and got me to give him the discount. >> Okay. >> So, I was like, "Oh." So, I was joking with him. I was laughing. I was like, "If you a police officer, why can't you show me your badge?" And then he took it out and he threw it in my face and he was like, "See?" And threw it I was like, "Well, then if you a police officer, you ain't got to do all that." And so I was like, "Okay." So, he was like, "You know what? Just [ __ ] the um Just [ __ ] the discount. Just I'll pay for it. I'll pay for it." So, I walked back over to >> Just hold the cheese. Just like don't charge me for the cheese. Just hold the cheese. >> And he was like, um just kept going on and on. I was like, "Man, I'm not going to argue with you." So, he trying to get the customers involved asking them, "Oh, you see how she's still talking to me and all this?" And I'm like, "I'm not talking to you. What are you talking about? I'm over here in drive-thru not even thinking about you. What are you talking about? I said, "No, you're talking to me and I'm trying to get this food out." And so he was like, "You know what? Just give me my M&M money." So, she came she was like, "Huh, he's taking pictures of you." I was like, "Why are you taking pictures of me?" He was like I was like, "You know what? I said cuz this is aggravating. You're taking pictures of me for what reason? What? We didn't We didn't get no comfort and now you're taking pictures of me for what? Just give me my money." I said, "You know what? I said, "I'm going to call the police cuz this is making me mad cuz you're taking pictures of me and then you're threatening my job. You said you're going to get me fired for what reason? Because I asked you to let me see your badge. You want to get me fired >> [laughter] >> He said, "I'm calling the for taking pictures of me." He I'm going to erase them off my phone." >> He said, "Yeah, when I said I'm going to call the police to say you want me to erase it." >> Subscribe if you want more like this. My other channel though is The Com Center. It's where I break down true crime cases from the 911 call to the verdict. Check it out. The link's in the description. >> I said, "No, you ain't got to erase it if the police see it cuz you're taking pictures of me for what reason?" >> All right. Any swearing of everything you told me is true to the best of your knowledge? All right. >> He told me he wanted me to erase it. He was like, "Here you go." >> Um does the video show him pulling out his badge at all? >> Yeah. >> Are you able to play back right now or not? >> I'm not. >> No? Okay, that's fine. I just got to I got to notify the police. >> The chicken lady played it like like the other one did. >> I got you. >> Showed it to us like a couple of days ago. >> All right. >> And why he showed it today cuz he put it in my face. Well, he tried. >> Um I'll collect all the evidence and I'll log it on. I got to get the info off of him, so. >> Okay. >> Okay, I think that's it. No, no, well, what I'm saying, you what you originally thought he was until you started to become suspicious. >> No, cuz I told him I was like, "How are you a police officer?" And when you was coming in here before you never told us nothing about a police officer. You never showed us a badge. >> Yeah. >> But when Jen was cuz I guess you were showing it because Jen knew him. >> Yes. >> You know what I'm saying? So, he's not going to show us the badge while Jen here because Jen going to be like, "You're not a police >> And nobody asked to see the badge? >> No. >> Is besides you when you said, "Hey, let me see the ID." >> But this time I asked him to let me see the badge because you never brought a badge in here before. Like I said, and then he was like, "Oh, because Jen was here and Jen knew me." And me not thinking cuz he did know Jen. And I never did question Jen about is he a police officer because Jen told me she knew him from Terranova. >> Yeah. >> I never said Jen oh Jen, but Jen said she used to work with him at Terranova. So, that's what I brought up. >> Yeah. >> And he got mad because I said, "Jen said she used to work with you at Terranova. How are you a police officer?" I said, "When you was coming in here before and he'll sit in the lobby and eat." Now, he'll hurry up and eat and leave. When he starts showing us the badge, he'll take his food with him. He won't sit here no more. >> Like I said, he's he's a regular in Burger King. >> Yeah, that's what you're saying. >> And he's never said anything about a badge or >> So, as far as the vehicle, we can't tow it because it's on private property here. All right, you was the vehicle wasn't involved in the call, so he wasn't arrested inside of it, so we can't legally tow it. So, you guys would have to call a tow truck company. It doesn't cost the business anything, it goes to him to have the vehicle towed. >> And when she said she called the police for him to say, "Um I'm going to go ahead and hurry and leave if you're DEA." >> Yeah, he said, "I'm going to hurry up and leave." >> He said my mom had to go. Tired cop. >> He was like, "I'm retired." >> And then he started saying he was retired? >> Yeah. And he said like then at the end when I talked when I was on the phone with the lady, I heard him telling her he's a retired cop cop. I was like, "Okay, you was telling us you is a police, now you work for the DEA, now you retired. Which one is it?" >> So, he said he was a police, then he said, "Now I'm DEA." All right. >> Now, the officer said something that's worth repeating. If somebody identifies themself as a law enforcement officer, you're allowed to ask for identification. You should never feel bad about that. Stover was charged with impersonating a law enforcement officer. His trial is pending. The footage doesn't tell us how it was resolved. Everything about his history at that restaurant comes from the employees on camera. Look, if you like this video, I want you to watch this next one. Be safe and don't [snorts] get body cammed.
