On April 25th, 2025, officers responded to the Members First Credit Union after it was alleged that 26-year-old Jabari Dennis had attempted to cash a fraudulent check by changing the name of the recipient, which coincidentally was reported stolen just days prior. So, I saw it do a dirt bike and that's the check that he gave me. >> He gave you this for a dirt bike. >> Yeah. So, I tried to do the mobile, but then they said they was talking about taking a certain amount and then it was going to take a certain amount of days. I'll be rapping. I got to perform tonight at Tiger Tiger. I just was at KOD last night, you feel me? And I got another one at KOD next week. Okay. >> After confirming with the fraud department that the check was in fact stolen, the other officer now returns to the suspect to get his side of the story. >> So you don't have any information for the person you sold this dirt bike to? You don't know anything about the dirt bike and you don't have anything that says >> I don't have it on this phone. >> You have it on another phone? Yeah, but I don't I don't have that. So, yeah, this check should say someone else's name on it, but it's been altered and he's trying to cash it. Makes me think it's recently altered. No, it's a real check. It's a stolen check out of North Carolina. It looks like the original name. There's damage to the check underneath the new name where it looks like it was like scraped off. Like the original name was scraped off. I'm trying to figure out what to do. It's been a very long time since I've had one of these. That's up to you if you don't mind. Go in the front doors. You want to give me a ride? >> Jabari Trayon Dennis was charged with thirdderee felony forgery and misdemeanor obstruction hindering law enforcement, subsequently marking his third run-in with law enforcement over the past few years. As a result, Jabari spent a total of 26 days in prison before his case was transferred to the Superior Court, where his legal proceedings continue.
