welcome back to the DUI Channel we are in Sylvania Township Ohio where on September 3rd 2023 at 1:8 a.m. a Sylvania Township police officer observed a tan 2012 Chevrolet Malibu traveling without operational headlights on at night the vehicle then merged onto I 475 South without signaling after the officer activated his emergency lights the driver pulled over to the left side of the highway way and stopped in the outside Lane along the yellow left Edge line the officer then approached the vehicle now in Springfield Township as his investigation begins hello good I'm off I'm stoping today is only your parking lights are on you have no actual headlights on right now yes please where are youall coming from tonight can you just take my first and last name you don't have your ID with you I don't I have my BG ID I think it's in the car but uh can you just take my first last thing yeah that should be fine okay let me get ready [Applause] here where are you headed to Bowling Green Bowling Green you go to school there yes what are you in school for business finance and what are you doing uh what were you doing out here where were you to a restaurant where at Millions CRA Millions crab granddaughter the officer discovered that the suspect and her two passengers had patronized a separate local restaurant at this point the front passenger began to inquire on the situation well you know I work midnight shift and we deal with a lot of impaired drivers okay I drove first um tog though all headed to BG okay um Jaden what i' i' like to do is uh run you through a few field sobriety tests make sure you've consumed no alcohol tonight okay um and that you are in fact the DD and if that's the case you guys are on your way fair enough yeah so go ahead and step out here with me 436 I'll take another unit we're going to walk back here so we're not in a great spot right now Okay negative and immediate okay um you realize that you stopped in in a lane of travel here yes I I said that I was like should I have gone to the other side like I just recently got my like if you look up my license I just got my license you just got it yes but she was like oh but do you have your license and I was like yes Savon in the back seat he doesn't have his license okay so she got a little bit too impaired and she was like you have it okay I'm going to let you drive I want you to be 100% honest okay have you consumed any alcohol tonight any alcohol period period tonight correct No not tonight nothing no I had a [Music] few I'm not going to lie I had a few pre rolls you had a few what I had a few pre-rolls few pre-rolls marijuana no no not marijuana but from BG okay so you Dr before you drank before the club no I didn't drink for the club I smoked pre-roll before the club okay do you smoke a lot of marijuana I don't smoke marijuana I got them from uh the smoke shop and Bowling Green it's called Smoke Zone so it was just tobacco in the pre-rolls no it was like CB or it was like CBD or thcz or something like that I bought it with my ID okay in Bowling Green okay no no alcohol though no alcohol okay have you drank recently recently as in the last week uh no I didn't drink last week okay and you and they've been drinking tonight but not you no yes okay so for me to do these tests I have to shut the front set of lights down on my car so that they're not flashing at us okay so walk back here with me okay what we're going to do is we're going to do the tests right here that way I can also keep an eye on traffic coming at us so face me this way okay do you have any issues with your eyes no nothing like that any issues with your back head neck anything like that no you have any prescription medication no um do you take any drugs no um you never smoked marijuana anything like that I have before have before but not tonight no no and no alcohol tonight no Okay so this first test is an eye test okay what it's going to entail you doing is standing just like you are I'm going to show you my finger it's going to move side to side I need you to follow that finger with your eyes and your eyes only okay but keep your head straight at me does that make sense yes like to ask this again okay okay so we see things in your eyes mhm that you wouldn't even know what's going on okay right how much alcohol have you consumed tonight please don't lie to me but okay so I drink okay okay it's I didn't it's not so let here let's pretend that you didn't tell me what you told me at the car okay be forward with me and honest with me right now how much have you drank tonight okay so I ended up drinking before we came here uh I had like uh maybe oneir of a solo cup of what of like juice like it was like mix a mixed drink okay and I had like one3 of a so look up here on the way here of the same type of thing yes you didn't have any other alcohol I had no other alcohol okay and then you smoked whatever those was in those pre- rolls earlier yes okay I smoke one and a half pre rolls okay um we're going to do the rest of the tests okay to make sure that you're okay to drive because your eyes are definitely showing me that you have alcohol in your system okay so I appreciate you being honest with me okay I get you're 20 years old and that's probably why you lied to me I get that okay so what we're going to do for this next test is called the walk and turn test okay we are not going to use the line there because we need to stay out of the road that's why I told you we were staying in here okay so we're going to imagine a straight line going down this way okay okay so what I want you to do is on that imaginary line place your left foot okay put your right foot in front of that Heel To Toe keep your hands down at your side and stay like that till I tell you to start the test you understand yes okay what you're going to do for this test is you're going to take nine Heel To Toe steps down that imaginary line turn around I'll show you how and take nine back watch me okay so from that starting position it's going to look like this MH one two 3 I took three you'll take nine once you get to nine leave your lead foot on the line take a series of small steps to turn yourself around and take nine back okay one two three okay once again I took three M you will take nine okay for this test I need you to look down at your lead foot okay I need you jam you up for being 20 years old right okay I just need to make sure that you're okay to drive okay especially cuz you got a long way to go to Bowling Green does that make sense I understand um so what I want you to do is just seal your lips around this and give me a nice steady breath okay we'll hear a click and you'll hear me to tell you stop when it's done seal your lips and blow keep going keep going keep going keep going keep going keep going keep going [Laughter] stop okay so that says a 101 we'll okay that means the legal limit for a 21y old in the state of Ohio is a 08 so you're over the limit for someone who would even be 21 yeah does that make sense yeah oh okay all right give me one second okay so here's the deal tonight you're going to be placed under arrest for OVI okay put your hands behind your back for [Applause] me [Applause] [Music] else uh two other passengers they're both impaired as well hold still hold still going to double lock these so they don't tighten reach across you and put your seat Bel on once the suspect was taken into custody the arresting officer discussed the situation with the aunt of the passenger sitting in the front seat who is [Applause] thisal Cy I just was sitting on the line with her just to check out the the what situation was so I just want to try I work for FBI Detroit but I'm actually working in Washington DC right now so I don't have a resource to to help immediately at moment [Applause] just okay okay yes so there the the yes uh a traffic stop was performed on the vehicle because it was driving on a roadway with only parking lights on okay um made contact with the driver and based on you know observations I made in the vehicle I I believe the driver had consumed alcohol um so I asked the driver to step out for some standardized field sobriety test and based on those tests um the driver who is 20 years old was placed uh in custody for OVI okay okay um I don't I don't want to tow the car I don't want to do anything like that they've everyone's been very Cooperative with me which obviously you know we'll do what we can then to help them out so what I would like to do is just park park her car on the side of the road for now and we would give her and her male friend that's in the back seat arrive to the Waffle House which is a 20 one of our only 24-hour businesses in Sylvania Township okay and then they could make arrangements to get a ride to pick them up from there and then uh once everyone is sober tomorrow um they can come pick the car up the keys will go with them and everything but I just don't want you know them to go down the road and get stopped and then somebody else get in OVI or get in trouble following the arrest the suspect Jaden was taken to the Sylvania Township Police Department and read the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles form 2255 okay all right if you blow and you're over an 08 so no refusal but over an 08 90 days under an 08 no suspension period Point Blake where's the five print that's what the form says it's all okay all right so you're going to blow yes I'm going blow like I have no problem with this you ready you hold this no let me let me fix my court the defendant was charged with time for lighted lights on Motor Vehicles and two counts of operating vehicle under the influence of alcohol or OVI on September 28th 20123 25 days after the arrest the defendant pled guilty to the reduced count of physical control of vehicle while Under the Influence Jaden was ordered to pay a total of $756 between fines and costs as of January 12th 2024 she has paid only $115 she was sentenced to zero days in jail one year on probation and a license suspension of one year I feel like y'all be looking for crimes we are yeah y'all look for crimes but literally most of the time they say you want my honest opinion real I do the reason that the reason that I look for drunk drivers is two reasons first one I don't want to have to be the guy that goes to a crash involving one where somebody got very hurt or killed the second one a lot of police officers at night across the country get hurt by drunk drivers right so I'd rather get them off the road keep them safe because here's my thing yeah you got arrested technically you're going to get a ticket you're have to go to court all that but at least you're going home
