Hello. >> Hi. >> Hi, I'm Officer Gomez here with Myrtle Beach Police. Just so you know, my camera's on and it's recording this stop. Can I see your license, registration, and insurance? Do you guys live here? >> I live in Myrtle Beach, yeah. >> yeah. >> Where's right there? >> The Channel Club Tower. >> The Channel Club Tower? So, why'd you pull in here? >> I saw you >> you guys coming. >> Oh, got you. Okay. >> let me just pull out, Officer Gomez. Can you open that? >> You mean you tried to hide. That's what you mean. >> No, we I saw you coming, so we just pulled >> Oh, okay, got you. That's why you shut off your lights, too, right? >> You pulled up right behind me, so >> All right, thank you. >> Actually, yeah, I just changed my insurance to Geico, and I don't have the Let me go on my phone because I didn't get the actual paperwork >> Okay, no worries. >> for the switch. >> This is >> It's in my phone, hold >> Okay, you can hold on to these documents. Where were you guys coming from Where were you guys coming from tonight? >> Um, the Waffle House. >> the River City Ale House, too. >> Oh, got you. Okay. Anything to drink tonight? >> Yes. >> What did you have? >> I was drinking a vodka club. >> And when's When's the last time you had your last drink? >> Like right before we left. >> Which was when? >> Like 5 minutes ago cuz it's still >> 5 minutes ago. Okay. All right, while you're working on insurance, let me just go uh check your license. I'll be right back with you, all right? >> No problem. >> Miss, do you have to find insurance? Oh, perfect. >> Yeah, I just changed it, so I had to pull it up because >> Okay, cool. You can hand me that. So, listen, just because you said you had something to drink and the driving behavior I observed, I just want to do some tests on you real quick. So, you can just step out of the car. Thank you. >> Killing your headlights in a random driveway? Not the stealthiest move. Add the smell of alcohol, a fresh confession to drinking vodka, and the freezing cold becomes the least of her problems. It's field sobriety test time. How would your balance hold up under this kind of pressure. Just, you know, Amy is a passenger, too. Just, you know. Okay, so Um do you have any issues with your eyes? >> No. >> No, no issues? >> No. >> Do you wear contacts? >> I do wear contacts. >> Do you have contacts in right now? >> Yeah. >> Okay, no worries. Uh glasses then, I presume, right? >> I wear glasses, yeah, when I take them out. >> Okay. I just have to ask you. Okay, so Um what I'm going to do for this first test is your feet together just like this and your hands down by your sides. First test is called the horizontal gaze nystagmus test. Basically, it's a test of your eyes. Okay? So, what I have to do is you're going to follow that red light with just your eyes and your eyes only. I don't want you to move your head. Do you understand? >> Yes. >> Okay. Can you still see the light? >> Yeah. I'm looking at it. >> Okay, you just weren't looking at it before. That's why I was asking. >> 4328 driver's going to be dangerous around the neighborhood. >> Copy. And so >> That's okay. You have to keep doing it. >> 3327 10-4 30. >> Try to keep your head straight. When I go to your left side, you keep moving it right. Okay. You're going to go up this time, right? >> Mhm. >> Okay, great. Do you have any physical injuries that prevent you from doing a balance test? >> No. >> No, not at all? >> No. >> Okay. So, the next test I'm going to have you do is called the walk and turn test. We are going to do it right over here, cuz this is a little more flat and more well lit. Perfect. That Thank you. So, I'm going to have you stand right where my light is right there. >> Okay. >> Are you comfortable in those shoes? >> Yes. >> Okay. >> The only thing is it's freezing, but >> Okay. I I It's a little chilly out. So, don't worry, I'll take that into consideration. So, what I have you do is get in the start position. The start position for this test is I want you to imagine a line right in front of you. I want you to put your left foot on that line just like this. >> My left foot? >> Yep. And put your right foot touching heel to toe with your left foot just like this. Perfect. I want you to keep your hands down by your sides and stay in that position during the entire time I explain the test. >> Okay. >> Okay? So, when I tell you to begin, I want you to take a series of nine heel-to-toe steps down an imaginary line in front of you. It's going to look just like this. 1 2 3. Once you've reached your ninth step, keep that lead foot planted, turn yourself around just like this. Once you've turned >> Like a pivot? >> Yeah, just keep your lead foot planted like that and just use your use your other foot to turn yourself around with a series of small steps. >> Okay. >> Take nine more heel-to-toe steps down the line just like this. 1 2 3. >> Okay. >> So, I'm going to demonstrate at full speed for you now so that you understand. 1 2 3. 1 2 3. All the way till nine each direction. >> Okay. >> Okay? So, some things to note during the test. I want to keep your hands down by your sides the entire time. Just try to stay in the start position for me. >> All right. >> Okay. So, just make sure you're touching heel to toe. Perfect. Okay. So, while you're doing the test, keep your hands down by your sides, look down at your feet while you're counting your steps out loud. Um don't stop the test until you fully complete the test, and make sure you're counting your steps out loud. Do you have any questions? >> Nope. >> Okay. You can begin. >> Two. Three. Four. Five. Six. Seven. Eight. Nine. 10. Right foot. that right? >> That's good. You keep going. >> 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 >> Okay. You can relax. All right. So, next is I have to do is call the one-leg stand test. Are you injured after the walk-and-turn test? >> Am I injured after that? >> Yeah. >> No. >> Okay, perfect. So, uh for the start position for this test is your feet together just like mine are and your hands down by your sides. I want you to remain in that position while I explain the test to you. Do you understand? >> Yes. >> Okay. >> Sorry. >> No, it's No, it's okay. So, when I tell you to begin, I want you to raise a foot of your choice off the ground approximately 6 in while you have that foot off the ground. You're going to keep it parallel to the ground just like that and you're going to look down at the tip of your foot and count out loud in the following manner. Demonstrate it for you now. 1,001 1,002 1,003 1,004 1,005 1,006 >> Does it have to be in front of me or can't do like >> No, it has to be just like this. Some things to notice, keep both of your legs straight and not bent. Keep your hands down by your side the entire time while you're balancing. Look down at the tip of your foot and see how my foot is parallel to the ground. It's not like this. Parallel parallel, okay? >> Okay. >> I want you to count just like that. Now, let's say you're counting 1,001 1,002 1,003 and you put your foot down. I want you to pick that foot right back up and count from where you left off. Yeah, and count from where you left off. So, if I'm counting 1,002 1,003 1,000 4 1,005 1,006 1,000. Do you have any questions? >> No. >> Do you understand? >> Yes. >> Okay, give me 1 second. You can begin. >> 1,001 1,002 1,003 1,004 1,005 1,006 1,007 1,008 1,009 1,010, 1,011, 1,012. Woof, sorry. >> That's okay. Yep, just keep going. >> No, you count from where you left off. >> 1,012, 1,013, 1,014, 1,015, 1,016, 1,017, 1,018 1,018, 1,019, 1,020, 1,021, 1,022, 1,023, 1,024, 1,025, 1,026 >> You can stop. >> Okay. >> Okay. So, next test I have for you is an eye test. It's called the lack of convergence test. Um this test I just need you to follow the tip of that light with your eyes and your eyes only. You're not moving your head again, okay? >> Okay. >> Can you just put your feet together like this and your hands down by your sides? That's the start position. You're going to stay in that position the entire time, okay? >> Mhm. >> All right, you can see that light no problem, right? >> Yes. >> Okay, follow it with your eyes and your eyes only. Okay, give me 1 second. >> Okay. >> Okay, miss. I got one more test for you. >> Okay. >> Okay? >> Freezing. >> Okay, no worries. Um it's called the modified Romberg balance test. This test is uh real simple. All you're going to do is keep your feet together just like this, your hands down by your sides. Stay in that position while I explain the test to you, okay? >> Okay. >> So, when I tell you to, you're going to tilt your head back, close your eyes, and once you believe 30 seconds has gone by, you're going to tilt your head back down, open your eyes, and say stop. That's the whole test. >> I'm just going to tilt my head back and count to >> Yep, it's going to look just like this. I'll say begin, you'll tilt your head back, close your eyes. >> When I believe 30 seconds >> Yep, once you believe 30 seconds has gone by, stop. >> Okay. >> That's it. Do you have any >> No. >> Okay. >> Sorry, I'm just like shivering. >> No, it's okay. All right, so um give me 1 second. I got to find a nice even number on my watch here. Just keep your feet together for me. >> Okay. >> Perfect. All right, you can begin. Done? >> Yes. >> Okay. >> After stumbling through the walk-and-turn and struggling to hold her balance on one leg, the writing is on the wall. The officer has seen enough to make the final call, and the cuffs are coming out. Do you think the officer handled this evaluation fairly? Press the like button if you want to see her breathalyzer results. >> Okay, miss. Um so, listen. >> Yes. >> I don't know how much you've really had to drink tonight, but I think it's been too much. So, you're going to be placed under arrest for DWI, okay? Um >> Placed under arrest? >> Yep. All right. >> What test did I fail? >> For for DWI. There's multiple indicators of impairment in each test that I observed. All right? >> What? >> What do you mean, what? >> I'm just wondering what >> Oh, I'm not going to sit here and explain each one to you, okay? I can explain it to you more inside, but we're not going to do that on the side of the road, okay? So, turn around and face away from me. >> Okay. >> Put your hands behind your back. Okay, stand right there. >> So, I don't get to know why? >> Yeah, I'll explain I can explain more to you inside. >> Inside where? >> Inside police headquarters. >> Those aren't too tight, right, miss? >> No. >> Okay. Okay. Um would you mind searching her? I don't think she has anything on her, but >> Just walk to the back >> Just walk over to the back of the car here. Yeah. Right here? >> Yeah. Where he >> This side right here. >> Yeah. You have nothing on you that's going to like stick that poke me anything like that. >> I have nothing on Yeah. >> It's just a dress. >> Okay. Yeah. >> All good. Perfect. Okay. Just watch your step getting in. Oh, let me let me move that seat belt out of the way first. Watch your step getting in. >> Okay. >> Do you need anything from the car? >> My shoe is >> I can get your shoe for you. Uh Yeah, if you want. That's fine. >> Yeah, if you don't mind. >> Do you need anything from the car? Phone, wallet? >> House keys? >> Yeah, my phone and wallet is in the car. I don't know what I'm like allowed to >> I can get it for you. Yeah, I can grab whatever you want. What do you want me to grab for you? >> If you can get my my bag with my phone, my wallet is in it.
