POLICE THE SEARCH WARRANT. >> NEW HAVEN, CONNECTICUT, just before 6:00 a.m. POLICE SEARCH WARRANT. >> POLICE SEARCH WARRANT. >> THEY are searching for a man who allegedly possesses child pornography. >> THE SEARCH WARRANT. >> LET ME SEE YOUR HANDS. LET ME see your hands. >> But this is not that man's apartment. He lives one floor down. >> Is there anybody else inside this room with you? >> No. No. No. No. All right. >> No. Why? >> Why? >> Where? Where's Tim? >> Who? >> Tim? >> You're you're you're go. Tim. >> The name downstairs. >> So, he's down downstairs. >> No, I do not know where he is. >> All right. >> Why? >> Stand by. Okay. We'll explain everything to you. All right. There's currently a search warrant being executed. >> How could police have gotten it so wrong? More on that in a moment. >> Oh, sorry. >> [ __ ] >> Just stay right there. You're good. >> Okay. This innocent and now terrifying 20-year-old woman lives in this apartment with her four-year-old brother and their mom. >> Um, >> right here. Does this work? >> Uh, no. You can. It's on the table. It's like a little button, right? >> Okay. >> Where is it? Right over. Okay. >> Thank you. So, m for the time being just stay off your phone then we'll explain everything to you. Okay. >> Did you want me to hang out? >> If you can. Yes. Because >> right now obviously have to make sure everything was, you know, status quo and then we'll explain what's going on. Okay. So, we have a search warrant. We'll explain the details to you >> and then we'll go from there. Okay. >> Okay. >> Those officers down the hallway search the remaining rooms of the apartment. They find the young woman's mother, Stacy Wizenter, and immediately place her in handcuffs without being told what's going on. Except that they are executing a search warrant, though technically it was invalid since the police were not in the right apartment. >> Hands, hands, hands. >> Yeah. Hold on. >> One second. One second. >> Yeah, I'll tell you. Do in just one second. Okay. We have a search warrant. All right, we'll explain everything. >> My son. >> Okay. >> Mrs. Wizer was concerned the commotion might have woken her four-year-old son. Miraculously, the toddler slept through it all. Soon, each of the officers realized they were in the wrong apartment. So, they eventually released the mother from handcuffs and invited her daughter to join her. >> You want to come sit with your mom? >> Sure. uh downstairs with the mom. >> Yeah. You remember two years ago when when a group of officers then went to the apartment downstairs, the one that they were supposed to raid. Police have not publicly released this portion of the video because it is part of the evidence against 35-year-old Timothy Urugo. So, how did police make their initial mistake and go into the wrong apartment instead of Yugos? The police counted to three instead of two. The warrant said your go's apartment was on the second floor. The police thought the first floor instead of ground level was up those stairs. So, they went up the stairs. And then they went up another set of stairs and nobody bothered to confirm the apartment numbers on the doors. Step back to the side. All right. Police the search warrant. Police the search warrant. >> POLICE THE SEARCH WARRANT. LATER THAT MORNING, after raiding the wrong apartment and then eventually going to the correct one, the police went back to the centers and reassured the family that the department would arrange to get them a new door. >> We're going to call your landlord um right after probably call them now actually to let them know about the damage. Um we'll provide you with a case number for the search warrant execution cuz obviously none of this is your fault. It's all our fault. So we'll make sure it gets fixed uh as soon as possible. Hopefully today we'll get him here to come take care of that. >> The door was fixed later that day. However, this incident from April of 2023 apparently left lasting psychological and emotional damage on the mom and her 20-year-old daughter. So, they are now suing the New Haven Police Department. Legal experts expect the city to settle. As for the target of the raid, Timothy, 5 days after the police raid, he committed suicide. All of these developments have shocked residents and given the New Haven Police Department yet another public relations debacle. I say another because last year, five New Haven Police officers were arrested after their mishandling of Randy Cox, a suspect who was paralyzed while in police custody. Remember this? You felt >> All right, hold on. What happened? >> What? >> You fell. >> Yeah. >> What happened? >> Can you move at all? >> I can't move. >> What? >> I cannot move my arms. >> All right. Do not move. I can see moving your arm. >> No. >> Okay. >> Look at my hand. >> I All right. Hold on. Hold on. But then the officer kept driving without providing any assistance. >> 171. >> A few minutes later at the New Haven detention center, officers refused to believe Cox when he said he could not move. >> Come on or we're going to pull you out. >> Slide down, my man. >> Oh jeez. >> Yo, slide down so you can get out of here. >> Look. Look. If you got to drive me, we'll start over. >> All right. Eventually, they dragged him out by his feet. >> Now, almost there. You're almost there. You got to get your shoulders out. Ready? 1 2 3. Stand up. >> There we go. All right. >> How you making up? Ready? >> Uh, actually, no. >> Get the wheelchair. >> The police did place Mr. Cox in a wheelchair, but they repeatedly taunted him for not getting up. I >> I can't feel. Sit up. >> Oh my god. Yo. >> Yeah. Sit up. You're doing You're doing extra [ __ ] Sit up. >> Randy Cox mishandled by police in 2022. The center family terrorized by police in 2023 and all because of New Haven, Connecticut police inaptitude. Suffice it to say, the residents of New Haven are horrified and embarrassed. In Colorado, the Losanus County Sheriff's deputies are now being sued for tasering a man in his teeth after giving him contradictory orders. >> You need to go. >> No, I don't. I'm waiting on my son. He's going to ride back the wall. >> Leave. Leave. >> That's stay. Hey, stop the >> Check out that video at the link below. I'm David Schustster. Thanks for joining us.
