Hey, >> Central Division Patrol officers responded to a radio call of an assault with a deadly weapon suspect there now in the 600 block of Town Avenue. The suspect was described to be a male wearing a red beanie under the influence armed with a large stick attacking an employee on the fourth floor of the location. Based on the nature of the radio call, the officers requested the assistance of additional patrol units and a supervisor. >> Hello. >> Hi. How can I help you? >> Hi. Hi. Yes, there's a uh I'm on six count. Uh there's a guy there's a guy who [music] came into our studio right now. A [ __ ] homeless dude and he's like our he is like he's like on some [ __ ] Uh very dangerous. >> And does he have any weapons? >> Uh yes. Yes. >> What does he have? >> He can't be. >> Okay. One second. We're going to get someone over there. informed the officers and supervisor that McConey was located inside the business and had access to sharp items and metal objects. The officers obtained a private person's arrest form [music] from the collar and ascended to the fourth floor. >> PPA will go up there and make contact. >> So, less legal, right? AS MCCONEYI walked out of the business, the officers ordered [music] him to turn around and walk backward toward them. McConey initially complied, but then turned and charged toward the officers. One of the officers [music] observed McConey holding what he believed to be a screwdriver and deployed a 40mm lesslethal foam projectile round. Another officer fired two beanag shotgun rounds at McConey. However, all of the less lethal munitions were ineffective. McConey continued to advance toward the officers while still holding what another officer believed to be a knife clenched in his right hand. McConey then made contact with one of the officers and grabbed the beanag shotgun she was holding, resulting in an officer involved shooting. McConey was struck [music] by gunfire, taken to the ground, and ultimately taken into custody without further incident. >> This is the Los Angeles Police Department.
