The 63-year-old defendant was initially charged with resisting a law enforcement officer without violence, battery on a law enforcement officer, operating a motor vehicle with an expired driver's license, having an expired registration, and failure to obey a stop sign. These were the initial charges. However, in [music] court, things went a little bit differently. For starters, a failure to obey a stop sign charge was separated from the battery on law enforcement and resisting charges. [music] Those two criminal charges were consolidated together and the defendant was found guilty on running a stop sign. However, for the resisting and battery on law enforcement charges, neither of these led to a guilty adjudication. And moreover, these criminal charges were actually sealed from the public. I don't know the exact sentencing or disposition for this, but when a case is sealed through the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, this gives us a very good indication that the defendant most likely was not adjudicated guilty for the battery or resisting charges. [music] This is because when a case is sealed, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement seals cases once one of the following takes place qualifying for sealing. [music] Number one, when prosecutors never filed a charging document, or when prosecutors filed charges but later dismissed or no prosecuted all counts, or if the court dismissed all counts, or if the defendant was found not guilty on all counts, or lastly, if the judge entered a judgment of a quiddle on all counts. Having a case sealed prevented the general public from accessing these records. In this case, the record was sealed or expuned with court-ordered expungement going even further where criminal justice agencies generally must physically destroy or obliterate their copies. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement retains a confidential copy, but it usually cannot be released without a court order. In this case, the battery on law enforcement and resisting a law enforcement with or without violence was either sealed or expuned, wherein the defendant was most likely not adjudicated guilty. Once again, the only charge that stuck was running a stop sign where the defendant was guilty and as a result paid just a little over $250 in fines and court fees. Anyways, let me know your thoughts on this case down below in the comments section. Stay safe out there and I'll see you in the next video. >> Are you the supervisor? >> I am the supervisor. >> Okay, I need you to please get my purse and call my attorney. >> Ma'am, I'm not calling your attorney.
