Around 11 p.m. on January 11th, 2024, Officer Thomas Boden with the Tampa Police Department observed a 2024 Mazda make an illegal right turn on red from Howard Avenue South onto Plat Street West. He activated his emergency lights to initiate a traffic stop and the driver pulled over in the vicinity of Plat Street West and Albany Avenue South. Officer Parker witnessed the driver of a gray 2020 Jeep exit from the vehicle and she was identified as 22-year-old Elizabeth Henchin. >> I did not know that. Elizabeth told officer Boden that she and her two passengers were celebrating her birthday at Love Child, a restaurant in Tampa. She also admitted to consuming to drinks earlier that evening. Based on his suspicion of impairment, Elizabeth was asked to perform field sobriety exercises. >> [cheering] >> Is there a sign? >> All right. Hands down by your side. >> Based on her traffic infraction, her indicators of impairment, the odor of alcohol, her admission to consuming alcohol earlier that evening, and her inability to adequately perform the field sobriety exercises, Elizabeth was placed under arrest for driving under the influence. All right. What I want you to do now is just go ahead and put your hands on your back for me. So, what's going on right now is you are being placed under arrest for driving under the influence. Okay? Get down to booking. I am going to ask that you submit to a breath sample. It's going to measure the amount of alcohol that you have in your system. If you don't, there's some penalties that'll go along with that. Namely, your license would be suspended for a period of one year for a first refusal or 18 months if your license has been previously suspended for a prior refusal. >> Okay. I'm now requesting that you submit to a lawful test of your breath for the purpose of determining its alcohol content. If you refuse to take the test I requested of you, your driving privilege will be suspended for a period of 1 year for a first refusal or 18 months if your driving privilege has been previously suspended or if you've been previously fined under Florida statute 327.35215 for refusing to submit to a lawful test of your breath, urine, or blood. Additionally, if you refuse to take the test I have requested of you and if your driving privilege has been previously suspended or if you've been previously fined under Florida statute 327.35215 for a refusal to submit to a lawful test of your breath, urine or blood, you'll be committing a misdemeanor in addition to any other penalties which can be imposed by law. So, that side of the building is where the handcuffs. >> Elizabeth was transported by Officer Bottom to the Hillsboro County Sheriff's Office for further processing. At the jail, she agreed to submit to a breath test. Her breath test results indicated back levels of 0.068% and 0.073%. She was charged with a DUI 316.1931 and eventually released pending her court appearance. >> Come off. They'll uh explain the bond process, let you know what the next steps are, things like that.
