What began as a regular day at the ocean spiraled into total chaos when an officer approached a family on a boat for a safety and sobriety check. Tensions quickly escalated after the boat operator, who admitted to drinking, struggled with field sobriety tests. While the officer attempted to perform standard BUI, boating under the influence, procedures, family members began interfering, filming, and refusing to back up despite repeated warnings. The situation intensified as multiple people resisted arrest, shouted emotionally, and physically resisted detainment. The officer tried to de-escalate, but verbal confrontations turned physical as a woman and then a man were taken into custody. Screaming, confusion, and shouting continued as backup was called and handcuffs were applied amid resistance. What was supposed to be a day of fun at the water became a serious law enforcement intervention involving multiple arrests, injuries, and a chaotic family meltdown, all caught on camera. Come here. Hey! Come here. COME HERE. HEY! YOU, COME HERE. CAN YOU SAFELY PULL UP here and tie up? All right, come here. How y'all doing? Can you safely pull up here? All right. All right. All right. I'm not laughing at you. I just don't want you to hurt yourself or somebody else. Is this your boat? Your boat? Okay. Can you get the registration while you're looking for that rope? I hadn't wrote you no tickets yet. I don't know what you're talking about. I don't know you. Do you have your ID with you also? If you don't mind, let's walk up here. You've been drinking today, right? I can't tell you how much I had to drink because now I understand. Okay. Look right here. No, you ain't Well, you went that far, it disappeared. Okay. Do you work? Yes, I do. Is that Yep. When's the last time you worked? On Friday. You mind walking up here with me? Have a seat right here for me. I already went through a DUI. Well, this is not DUI. This would be BUI if you're under the influence. I have to advise you that if you do not take the field sobriety exercises that it can be used against you in court. You understand that? Can I stop there? There It's not a pass or fail. What's Well, I'm asking you to take the remaining field sobriety exercises to dispel my belief. But I'm going to get arrested. I haven't made a decision yet. You were driving. You asked about the video camera. Yeah, it's got you video spinning around out there and stuff. It's just like when I went to the spring, I helped a person out. I told him, "Don't be drinking. You got an open container." Then why are you drinking? You were driving. I got you on video driving, man. Come on. Are you so impaired that you don't remember driving? You remember? Well, well, well, watch your words. Well, you're telling me you weren't driving and I'm telling you you were. So, are you agreeable to take the field sobriety exercises? Yes or no? And let me explain what they are, okay? It's One's called the palm pats. Like you take your hands one, two, one, two, one, two like that. Then hand coordination is one, two, three, four five, six, seven, eight. And then put them down by your side. And then finger to nose with your head tilted to the back and your eyes closed. Those are the field sobriety exercises. Are you agreeable to take them? I'll take them. I can't believe this. Sit straight at the front edge of your seat. Put your arms down by your side. Record it. Everything here is I want to record it on my side. Okay. When I tell you to, you're going to touch the tip of your nose with the tip of your index finger and immediately return it to your side. It's like this. Just one. You only You got an index finger on each hand. If I say right, come up with your right index finger, put the tip of the finger to the tip of the nose and back down. If I say left, come up with that index finger, touch the tip of the finger and tip of the nose and back down. Don't leave your finger on your nose. You come up and touch it and come back down. Go stand over there. You can record all you want, but you're not going to interfere. back up towards the Mazda, please. Just back up towards the Mazda, please. They're as far as I can. Donna, I know. I'M GOING TO put you in jail if you DON'T BACK UP. DONNA, LISTEN TO SIMPLE as that. Stop making this worse. I'm agreeing holler all you want. Donna, I know. Back up and stop interfering. Donna, I know. Damn it, I shouldn't have done this. I'm so sorry. She is the city or the county's got some Donna, you're the same height as I am. No, Donna, I know. Is there somebody that hadn't been drinking that can get her out of the way and stop interfering? Cuz I'm going to have to put her in jail if she don't stop. Yeah, yeah. And it's going to be bad if you go to jail and she goes to jail, too. Yeah, we were like, "What's up?" Yeah. Well, that's not going to be fun. But if she interferes again, she's going to jail. I just told her back up, though. Okay, well, you did. And now you're upset that she's interfering. So, she's interfering, I'm trying to determine whether you're an impaired operator, and if she comes over here again, you can express to her that she's going to be arrested. So, I'm going to start this again. Touch your nose with the tip of your index finger and immediately return it to your side. Begin. Again? Yep. 45° backwards. Close your eyes. Okay, with your left. Are you telling me to touch my nose with my left? You understood the instructions, right? I I heard you, but I need you to hear I'm definitely going to need you to. Just be louder. With your left. With your right. Okay, relax. Next is the palm pat. Place your hands palm to palm with one hand up, one hand down. It's like this. When I tell you to begin, you're going to turn your top hand over and you're going to count out loud one, then turn your hand back over and count out loud two. It's like this. One, two, one, two, one, two, one, two. Make sure you keep your hands and your fingers parallel with each pat. Well, go ahead and begin. One, two, one, two, one, two. Okay, relax. Next is hand coordination. You're going to make a fist with both hands, place your left fist in the center of your chest, and your right fist against your left. It's like this. Take your left, touch it like this. When I say begin, you must perform four tasks, okay? The first task is to count out loud from one to four while you move your fist in a step-like fashion. All right, the second task is to memorize the position of your fist. After you've counted to four, clap your hands three times and return your fist to the memorized position. Third task is to move your fist in a step-like fashion in reverse, counting be quiet, counting out loud from five to eight, and returning your fist to your chest. So, it's like this. 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 The fourth task is to open your hands with your palms down and place them in your lap. 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 Okay, wait. All right, stand up for me. I'll give you I'm going to just I'm telling you. Which hands are in your back? Can I have your name, please, so we can go ahead and proceed? Christmas. Christmas. Okay, I'm trying to get up there, bro. Okay. I know that, man. You were fine, bro. You got to wear your seatbelt, okay? The yellow came up after arresting him, why are you arresting him? Well, I said get back. I'd already warned her. And she goes, "No, I I Why is he being being detained? You have to tell me." I said, "Ma'am, stop resist or stop resisting. You're interfering." He's trying to tell her to get back. She's like, "No." And she comes up and tries to interfere again. I said, "You're under arrest." Okay. That's when she goes, "F you, I ain't I ain't under arrest." You want him to take control custody of your boat. Okay. Okay. Who are these other people? Who are these other people? Who are they? They're idiots. Are they your wife, your daughters, what? Okay. They're your nieces? They're your nieces? Okay. Do they have ID with them? Where's their ID? Okay. Relax, man, okay? Relax. Did y'all see what was going on? Did you see the girls come up trying to interfere? Yeah, something like that. Yes. We just seen guys uh Well, I'm sorry y'all had to witness all that. Thank you for doing your job. Okay. Okay. Thank you. Now, I never understood how prevalent it is for people to get into a boat and attempt to navigate the water intoxicated, but apparently it happens more than we might think. And just because you're on the water, it doesn't make it any less dangerous. And remember, police may need reasonable suspicion to stop a boat operator for possibly being impaired. However, law enforcement can stop any boat at any time for a safety check. And sometimes a safety check can lead to an arrest. So today, we're back on the water and as soon as we get a view of the camera, an officer is eagerly trying to get the attention of a boater. And as the boater pulls in and begins to converse with the officer, I can hear slurred speech, but the boater stated it's because of a stroke. And just as I was starting to cut this guy some slack, the officer asks him if he was drinking. And this guy actually tells him it's irrelevant. The things you see in law enforcement. And obviously, this guy doesn't know. But officers are trained to ask investigatory questions, which is what this officer did to see if in fact it was a medical emergency. But my guess is that it wasn't. And now the officer explains the hand pat test or palm pat test. And of course, trained officers are looking to see if you can follow the instructions. But one of the problems that officers may run into is that the hand test is not one of the field sobriety tests that's approved by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Because sometimes there's people that simply can't do the test due to coordination problems or injuries. But as the officer begins the test, the suspect appeared confident, but his body started to betray him because he started to look confused. And after an obvious failure of the test, he does get arrested. Then stupidly, two women who were also on the boat begin to interfere. And one actually gets pepper sprayed because she's not following commands. And then they get arrested. And honestly, I didn't see that coming. And this is one of the challenges of being in law enforcement now. Because when I came on in the 90s, of course, I had to deal with people who hated police and sometimes they wanted to act out on these feelings. But now police are dealing with behavior like we saw in this video every day when officers are just doing their job. And honestly, for what? Because people want to interfere and play the protector. But lastly, for our new viewers and our returning viewers, let me make it plain. Don't interfere with the police investigation by word or action. Cuz if something doesn't look right, there's actions that you can take. But if you act like this, remember a criminal case can bring problems to your life. You may not be prepared to deal with. The male was charged with boating under the influence, and both females were charged with resisting an officer without violence and obstruction. They are innocent unless proven guilty in a court of
