They're in a with a a pickup truck. I just went back there. There's there's no nothing back there. I don't know if they're talking about the fenced area behind here. Hey. Hey. Not right now. Not right now. Okay. Not right now. All right. We got this. All right. >> Did you all see anybody else involved besides the officer and the other male? No, it was just them two. >> It was just only them two. >> It was just them two. I saw him attack him. I didn't though he stabbed them till I ran up on him. >> You didn't hear any gunshots or anything like that? >> The only gunshots were mine. >> Your gunshots? >> My gunshots? >> Okay. >> So, it sounds like uh 999 is being attacked by this guy. This guy shoots our suspect, >> the witness. >> Okay. >> So, >> where's his firearm and everything? >> It's over there on that back corner. >> Okay. But when he pulls up, there's nobody else involved. >> Okay. >> But whoever is calling is saying that there's somebody else involved. >> Okay. >> Uh C's on their way. He wanted them to get here first before we cleaned them up. >> Okay. I'm sorry, man. I was trying. >> Thought we had the suspect detained. >> That was not the suspect. >> Honestly, I don't know anything. >> There was a vehicle that that was driving that direction. It looked dark in color, but >> it was a It was a blue Dodge truck that went that way eastbound >> cuz he's saying when he showed up >> saying he showed up too, >> but I'm not sure if something happened prior to that. >> Stop that blue truck because he's saying he's the one that shot him. >> What's up? >> That dude shot suspect for the RP. The males are still hiding behind some boxes on the east side of the 205. >> There's a few ETA ready. Hey, I got that male. He's going southbound in a GMC Yukon. He's got the keys to open the property. >> I'm going to go, bro. >> Press that red button over there. Thank you. >> You're off. Push. Hey, I sent over. >> Yeah. These are just witnesses. >> Yeah, >> correct. >> Uh, no, >> they No, they have visual of the the subjects on the property still. >> So, I got statements from the the two people, the shooter and then the the girlfriend. They both saw the whole thing. >> I got uh case cards on the three casings there. I just need to kick them out of there. >> Okay. What's Jonah's wife? >> What's Jonah's wife through that way? Hold that side and we'll clear this way. for a minute. Someone to do an >> Yeah, he's outside of the fence. >> Uh, they called initially. >> Who are they? >> Girl is the suspect's cousin. She identified him as um Uh, where's your unit? >> It's right here. I'm waiting for AMR to see if they're going to transport him to so I can support him. >> Okay. >> Um, we need a unit on the other side. He's >> you're saying they're involved with this or how >> they're the ones that are in there. That's off our back camera. >> But they're involved in this thing right here. Or do you know? >> I think so. >> Okay. >> She recognized the suspect as her cousin AJ AJ Silva. Um, Armando Silva. So, they did like a little lap around. As they're turning around, they turn where that uh Nissan's at. They see 989 approaching >> and then female said that the suspect just like ran up on 999 and just started making a bunch of motions with the knife. She said she just started seeing him uh bleed profusely. >> Jim saw these guys going through cars and kind of going through stuff in there, but it seems like it's all at about the same moment. And then she said that's when she saw her boyfriend fire at least two or three times and hit the suspect. And then the and then the male was just running back and forth from the scene back over here trying to maintain coverage on the guy that was down while trying to help 992. >> Were you outside that whole time and or what was going on? Were you outside this whole time or were you inside here? >> Oh, no. I just walk into the ditch. >> All right. What's your name? You hurt anyone else? Greg? >> No, I didn't see anybody back here. I just heard the the siren, so I just came to the >> You said Gregory or Craig? >> Gregory. >> What's your address? >> I'm homeless. >> You're homeless. All right. >> And 100%. They didn't see anybody else out here prior to that. >> They said that the lady said they only got here. >> We need a unit on that side to get him. >> I guess I didn't realize that. Yeah, that's a lot of officers here for this draft. Is he okay? >> I don't know. >> I don't know. >> But those were the two for sure in that footage. >> Absolutely. Yeah, for sure. >> So, there wasn't a third one that you saw. Not. We only saw the two. And Jim, when he called me, he said, "I only see two." The guy in the black and the guy in the vest. >> Okay. >> Do you remember what this guy was wearing? >> He was already >> getting >> getting He was gone when I started taking statements. >> He was over at the baseball field and I I was like, "What the >> All right, they us instead of making this phone call." >> Hey, brother. So, not saying you did anything wrong right now. Just we have a major investigation on going on right here right now. So, you're going to be detained at this point. If you can come through this little hole in the fence and walk on this side for me. >> What do I do? >> My shirt my stuck. >> It's unstuck. You're good. Turn around. >> Okay. Oh, that cooperation making. >> No. What do I do? >> Uh yeah, we're going to you're just going to walk with us real quick. Okay. >> Yeah. I'm going to work on getting El Paso PD to go to 989's wife's house. >> What's up, dude? Hey. It doesn't look like it, dude. He got stabbed in the neck. I I don't think so, dude. Or here at the scene. It's this lumber yard or thising yard here. He went into trespassing, got stabbed in the neck, and a bystander shot the suspect. But, um, it didn't it didn't look good, dude. He's he's he was I think he's I think he's done, dude. So right now they're doing everything. >> Uh just because you're detained for now, I'm going to read you something. All right. >> Just be quick. >> You have a backpack on, correct? >> No. >> No. >> No. Just >> Okay. I was going to read you something. >> All right. So, you got the right to remain silent and uh safe hand and rub these against you for a while. He's still all right, bro. >> When I was with him, he was still he was still moving and he was still he was still there, right? So, we're not there yet. >> Yeah. I mean, CPR is the best manual thing. No problem. >> What's that? still doing CPR. >> CPR check. Is there a stab on the neck? >> Oh, it goes through. >> Well, I don't know if it goes through. >> Oh, Jesus. >> Is this all from one knife? >> I know, but that's the back. No, I'm saying I don't know. Yeah. >> So, you already know. You already called this. >> Did you stick the probe on this chest? >> Yeah, that I mean that knife is huge, bro. >> Yeah. But what what I don't understand is I I and I don't know if you know the type of injury he had, but he looked like he was shot in the back of the head, bro. >> Who? >> Jon. >> I don't It could have been a I don't know. >> I don't think I don't think the suspect had a gun. >> No, I I don't think so either, but the the injury to the back of his head >> I didn't I didn't I didn't even see that. I just saw the neck. That's That's the way it looked. The skull looked uh fractured from behind. >> Yeah. >> His wife and child are in triage. I'll see you here. I'm good. >> Yeah. Yeah. It's off the 49 with I have a gun. >> Okay. >> Who was the first? We're for sure that didn't know that [clears throat] Jonah even did shoot. >> I don't think he did. He did. >> Was it holstered the weapon when you got it? >> Yes, it was holstered. I don't think he made it. >> Thank you guys. Thank you guys. >> I'm sorry. Your wife needs to see you. Can you just come and see her because she's very distracted? >> Sir. >> Yes, sir. >> Would you be opposed to me calling another squad down here? That way I can put the male and female in a heated situation where we can still contain them. >> That's fine. >> Cuz they're they're freezing. >> Absolutely. That's fine. >> Thank you, brother. >> It says or something. Listen. Somebody when I pulled them over like oh that's AJ or TJ I can't it was something two letters they said AJ >> AJ >> AJ Silva >> that's the suspect or >> that's what the the female witness identified him as AJ Silva >> so she she knows >> it's your cousin >> what do you need drone unit to do >> I need you guys to stand by and we're going to have to do some overalls >> okay >> okay um you know how to use the Pix Uh, no. >> All right. >> He's going to be more of a I think uh Gold knows how to do the diary. >> Do you have his Do you have Gold's number? >> Yeah, I can call him. >> Just call him and tell him. If he hasn't been drinking, get him out here, please. >> Okay. >> I almost threw up. So, if I do, I >> That's That's fine. >> So, I'm Detective Marianes. My name is Oscar. This is uh the other detective, Manny Frius. And how did you end up here today? So, my girlfriend works down the street. >> Okay. >> And I picked her up around 4:30 and we're supposed to go to a Super Bowl party and I had to go to Walmart to pick stuff up and [snorts] I'd seen a guy here at the building and Jim, which is the guy with the hat over there next to White. He owns this property and I worked with him a lot here and he told me he's had issues with uh homeless people here and to let them know if he if I do see anybody. So I did and I drove around a bunch of times cuz I knew he was going to call the cops and I took pictures and videos of him here and stuff and I saw him lighting a fire and stuff. So I was just updating him. >> Do you know your ly you're lying? You're lying. >> Call 11:02 right now. >> What? >> Call 11:02 right now. Confirmed. It's confirmed. >> As soon as I parked, I saw the officer walking towards uh this guy, and it turns out it's actually my girlfriend's cousin. His name is AJ. I didn't see the knife. At first, I thought he was just punching him. Well, I saw the officer fall to the ground. >> And by that point, I heard he grabbed my gun and started running over here and I yelled, "Hey, stop." And he looked at me and I saw the officer with a lot of blood right here and it was gushing, just gushing out. And so he started coming at me. So I fired on him twice, but I I believe it was twice. And he really didn't seem fake. I first one, he kind of fell down and he started to get up. And I noticed the officer again just still gushing blood. And so at that point, I fired another round cuz he was getting back up. and I saw him drop to the ground and so I started running to the officer and didn't know if he was going to get back up or not. So I actually ran back to him, ran back to officer, ran back to him and I didn't know what to do. So I ran back to AJ, noticed that the knife was that was the first time I saw the knife that the knife was away and he wasn't moving. And I went to this officer and that's when I noticed the gash in his neck. So I put pressure on his neck. So I uh so I was holding pressure on his neck and at this point the uh there's another guy um that guy in front of this car on his phone. He actually came up with his gun drawn. And by then my girlfriend was already up here and she was telling him I was helping. And um I could feel that he had uh it was like abnormal in the back of his head. I it turns out he was slashed by kept trying to rotate his head to cuz he was coughing up blood. I didn't want him to choke and I was kind of struggling and uh he had told me to turn him to his side but I was trying to maintain that pressure and so I asked him to help me. He helped me. I know he has a [snorts] lot of problems. I don't know what those problems are. Um, I've picked him up a couple times cuz I know he's homeless. He's been homeless. I've known him. And then uh your girlfriend was in the car with you. >> She kept yelling at me not to come. >> Okay. >> I was not going to intervene. >> Okay. >> And so I don't know how far I was before she started chasing me. I think I'm pretty positive my third round had hit him. >> Okay. >> But for a moment I was terrified that I missed and actually hit the officer, but he [snorts] fell down to the ground and didn't move. So I I'm pretty positive that hit him. >> Okay. >> Or else unless the second one hit. I What do you have? >> Uh it's a Sig Sar 320 and I bought it at a sportsman's warehouse. It's a 9 mm. >> 9 mm. Hello. >> Hi. >> Like my coworker was shot and killed. [snorts] >> What happened? >> I'm okay. I wasn't there, but >> he was stabbed and then shot. >> Are you okay right now? >> So, I'm fine. The only thing is I would really like to be cleaned up. >> Let me get we we're gonna take some photographs real quick and then we'll get you cleaned up so that we can get you cleaned up. >> I got my photographers on the way. Okay, sir. >> I know you want to get clean. I really get it and I I don't blame you. Just please bear with us for just a little bit. >> Here's my part. Here's my partner last year. >> All right. Bye. >> All right. Bye. And you said that AJ is your cousin? >> Yes. >> Okay. Um, what's his history? >> Um, so he does deal a lot with uh mental health issues. Uh, he does have a history of drug abuse. >> Do you know what drugs he uses? >> Uh, >> or assume that he used >> um, from what I know, heroin, meth, spice. I think it started with spice. >> And then mental health is do you know anything that he's been fully diagnosed [snorts] with? What? >> I believe he was diagnosed I want to say bipolar schizophrenic. >> Okay. >> My grandma pays half of his rent so he can have them so he's not out >> our street. >> Is there anything else? So when he was walking him over, the only excited utterance that he said, he didn't say he saw anything, but he said he heard a gun go off and then he was like, "Well, what the or what the hell was that?" >> The only excited utterance he said. He does have 40s. So >> Oh, he's he's going in. >> Okay. Positive 40's office for not paying for a foot. Okay. >> And he was in the back of here. So, >> all right. Tech should get here soon. >> Okay. >> To >> I just want him out of the cold. This guy's been covered and wet for a couple hours. So, I want to get him warmed up. Soon as you guys are done, we'll take him up to the hospital. >> Okay, sounds good. Okay, >> thank you. >> Yeah, thanks, brother. >> Very unfortunate events. I'm sure you're going to hear about it. Jesus Christ. >> Oh my god. >> Oh my god. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine. Oh my god. >> Look like he does it again just [snorts] like he's going to shows up. >> Did you by any chance take into account the time of that first strike? Were you able to see it on his axon? Cuz our the time from this video is going to be off. >> I can pull you the time. We had a hard enough time just getting loaded. >> So much blood to USBC that we could not rip it from. >> Okay. >> Wirelessly upload. >> I would recommend having if you don't need to hear [music] 90 96 97. >> How's it going, boss? You've been staying here for a while, guys. This is my place. >> What's up? This is my place. >> Is this your place? >> So, you're the one who called? >> What's that? >> You're the one who called? >> I didn't call. >> Huh? >> I called you. Oh, you're not even real. You want to go [music] down, too? [music] this hell alive, [music] brother. >> Yeah, I I shot him like three or four times. He stabbed in the neck really bad. >> Where's the radio? Where's the radio? >> Right here. Right here. >> Officer down. Officer down. >> Officer Jonah Hernandez was murdered on February 11th, 2024. A courageous citizen, Isaiah Stoga, intervened and stopped the murder. On February 27, 2024, the case was presented to the district attorney's office who declined to prosecute Mr. Stoga. Fast it is. You see the danger that officers face and my ultimate message is that I will not let be in vain. And we have to collectively I can't change it by myself, but collectively we have to have positive [music] change for Jonah. The events of that day will leave a scar on our city that will never fully heal. But Jonah was not just a police officer. He was a father, [music] husband, a son. He was a brother, a nephew, an uncle, a cousin. Jonah was much more than just a law enforcement officer to his family and his close friends. Now he was a wonderful husband and we also shared a lot of joy and love a lot of it. I know he was an amazing officer. He was a quick electrician, a beautiful son who loved his family and a wonderful husband. We all know that. But above all, he was an amazing dad. And that was his joy. That was everything to him.
