On December 12th, 2024, deputies from the Watcom County Sheriff's Office in Washington were informed of an ongoing pursuit. The suspect, [music] Shawn Douglas Bergstrom, allegedly stole a truck in Canada by knife point. He was pursued south by Canadian authorities before he crossed the border into the United States. Reports indicate the suspect struck a vehicle and nearly hit a border patrol officer while crossing over. Because the initial crime happened in Canada before the suspect crossed the border, multiple agencies, including Customs and Border Patrol, are unsure who has authority.
