because police officers should know very well when a stop is lawful and when it isn't but what happens when they stop random people just to make their day worse I know you want design to stop people from doing things that they're not supposed to be doing I know you want voluntary compliance let put your hands on back wow here is an insane example of a police officer getting removed from Duty after stopping an innocent man the story began in April 2023 when an officer from Texas City PD called officer Scott Harrell approached a driver at the pump of a Bucky's gas station the individual is named Christopher schul and the officer claimed that he illegally cut through parking spaces at an extremely high speed which allegedly caused another truck to floor his brakes in order to avoid a crash the entire interaction was record reported on the officer's body camera don't walk up to my car please what don't walk up to my car please hey man you can't drive through a parking lot like that got your uh driver license insurance any weapons in the car I need to worry about is there any particular reason why you felt you need to come through the park like that I didn't think I did anything wrong I just came over to get gased you were speeding and you cut through parking spaces you know you can't do that I was do anything man I mean you coming to get g y oh are we going to go back and forth or you just going to you asked me a question you want me to answer it or not I'm not if anything I thought I was going even slower than normal no sir normally people don't even park where you park and that's the direct path to the gas pumps you almost hit that car that was turning right there I was watching man as soon as you cut in front of me like that I was like looking and I watched it happen so I come here every day there's almost never ever ever anybody so yeah I go through there cuz it's the straight path from the entryway to here which is what you're going to see everybody else do but I mean you know I hear you man I I got it to you it looked like I was going fast to me I thought I was going even slower than normal cuz I didn't want to get too close to you thank you okay sit tight for one second you fill up your car goad and fill up your car okay so I'm not kidding to either man I come here every day dude I send pictures of my wife price of the gas here every day when I come through okay look I'm not going to write you tickets but the only reason I'm not writing you tickets is cuz I'm out of tickets right now okay otherwise you would be receiving a citation for what we did the citation I'm just curious disregarding traffic control device on private property yes okay still you still can't do that it's still legal officer Harold considers issuing Mr schul a citation for disregarding a traffic control device although it seems improbable that parking space lines in a private lot could qualify ify as such making a Court's agreement with this assessment highly unlikely so I'm not going to write your ticket um I I hear you man I'm I'm understand I don't one I don't appreciate the attitude two I get it you're upset nobody likes cops pulling them pulling up on them nobody likes it okay but you know you did wrong you know you're not supposed to cut through the par and instead of being like Oh yeah I messed up sorry it won't happen again you want to sit here and go back and forth with me there's a lot better things than than this to be doing for you you're right I was working on a report you be over here and I mean there's people right now running you want to go to jail so you want to go to jail you can go to jail for this you can do what you want to do I can't stop I don't want to take you to jail no that's that is definitely a anybody I was nowhere near there there's cameras everywhere officer Harold threatens to jail Mr schul for class a reckless driving due to a near Collision if officer Harold's version of events aligns with the evidence it's possible a court could find Reasonable Suspicion for the reckless driving stop you can do what you want to do Harold I can't stop you if you want to be this way then that's up to you I'm trying to be reasonable having a bad day sir is there a reason why you're act I'm having a bad day because you're doing this to me I think this whole thing is ridiculous what do you specifically do you think is ridiculous then we're even talking about nothing happened and here we are talking and you're threatening to take me to jail and so I shouldn't be getting upset I don't call that a threat s it's a threat it's a that is a threat you're threatening being under colal law now to take something on private property which I don't believe you even have the authority to do dictionary term sir it comes from black laws a Class A misdemeanor for you to threaten or arrest me over something that you know it's not really true that's okay what's the penal code on that Sir Mr scha suggests that officer Harold could face a Class A misdemeanor charge for knowingly threatening an arrest based on false information but proving officer Harold's knowledge of the illegality May be challenging for the government trust me it's okay trust you okay I I we're we're good trust you we're good I don't feel like we are I feel like this is uh this is this is a problem how a problem I feel like you're going to continue to to commit these behaviors that are unsafe and put people at risk you don't feel like you did for something that's possible they may do in the future so we're now now we're playing John Club vanam future cop that you're going you need to stop me from something I may do in the future that's now your position you're feeling like you should take action cuz maybe sometime in the future I might possibly continue to do something come on what is the law designed to do sir oh I I know you want designed to stop people from doing things that they're not supposed to slam on their braks I watched it happen okay you came flying through the parking lot okay so what are we going to do about the car I didn't think I was going that you you certainly were sir you definitely were okay you definitely were okay so what are we going to do with the car I don't want to tow it cuz that's that that'd be being a real dick and I'm I'm trying to not to be the dick okay what would you like me to do with the car sir I'm going to ask one more time and then I'm going to have to have to can we back this down dude can we cool off here please I'm sorry I will I will you have forced my hand at this point because if I don't go and and and see this through to its conclusion I know you're going to go to the police department and file a complaint on me now the complaint's not going to do anything because I have it all on video everything is recorded I don't talk to anyone in the public unless I have my simply arresting an individual based on their speech after initially choosing to issue a citation as officer Harold did may not be sufficient for a plaintiff to prove their case in such circumstances I'm not going to go playing herol at all I'm just a little upset because I I really honestly sir I watch it happen I was working on a report I definitely have better things to do I didn't think that I did anything hell I didn't think I did anything well written on here you contact the court at the bottom here the information is there and also up there free to go sir after posting the body camera footage of his encounter with officer Harold on YouTube Mr Shaw's video garnered significant attention and backlash Texas City Police Chief Joe Stanton in response to the video's release initiated an internal investigation led by the office of Professional Standards which could potentially result in criminal charges against officer Harold the officer was placed on inside administrative duties while the investigation is ongoing Mr scha also received notice that his citation was dismissed and he's pursuing civil action against the department seeking support through crowdfunding campaigns
