You're getting real close to going to jail. >> All right. You guys won't catch me. You guys are [ __ ] >> We're going to hang out here while >> No, I'm not going to [ __ ] >> with You're under arrest. >> Possibly jumped in the water. >> Earlier in the day, officers found this man with a busted up truck in the road. But what started as a routine traffic stop quickly peeled back into a stubborn, arrogant guy who seemed ready to prove the cops wrong. They don't know what state I'm going to. I'll tell you, Texas. Maybe I'm going to North Carolina, Kansas. Who knows? You guys can't keep me in jail forever. I'm asleep till morning. Jail's dope. On the evening of May 28th, 2025, at about 6:02 p.m., an Oaklair police officer finds a blue Dodge Ram stopped in the middle of a Wisconsin roadway. Moments earlier, dispatch had relayed several reckless driving complaints about the same truck and its 21-year-old driver, Shy. >> Any other unit to start that? >> Go ahead. >> Union Zebra 6992, UFC 6992. Hey, sir, can you come here? What's going on? >> My rear axle snapped. I'm trying to get it off to the side road at least so I can call >> UZ6992. Your rear axle snapped. >> My whole rear axle snapped going around this corner for some reason. >> Okay. Do you have a preference on a toe? >> I do not. Chads. >> Okay. Do you have AAA at all? >> I do. >> Okay. >> Do you want my card? >> Yeah, if you have it. >> Any any tow would be amazing. >> AAA. Can I grab a driver's license for me? >> It's invalid. >> Okay. What is it? Suspended. Revolt. Okay. >> Please don't screw me on it. >> Okay. Here's this. >> I know I'm not supposed to I'm trying to get to my buddy's house. That's all I'm trying I'm trying to stay the night there. I got kicked out of my house. >> Any drinking or drug use tonight? >> None. >> Not at all. >> No. Can I grab my phone? >> Sure. >> Who's in the Is it just a dog in the pocket? >> That's just my dog. Yeah. >> Your phone not in your pocket? >> No. I don't know where it went. >> Okay. >> It's on the dash. >> Oh [ __ ] >> I'm going to sit down. That's [ __ ] scary. How did that even happen? >> Did this happen right here or >> It happened going around the corner. Some dude stopped me. He's like, "Your rear tires off." I'm like, "What?" >> I felt it, but I'm like, "That is weird." >> Your rear axle snapped on your truck and I got five cops next to me. Bartow. >> This is Barto right here. >> Going down Barto. >> Is your first name shy? >> Shy. But they said they're they're going to tow it and if I have a >> So did he say what happened with what's going on with it? >> I haven't even got out right here. >> I'm just going to start on this road. >> Where were you headed to, man? >> Right off about Fifth and Niagra. My buddy Jonah's house. >> Oh, gotcha. Okay. You guys just going to hang out and stuff like that? >> Yeah. I got nothing else to do today. So >> Gotcha. When did you When did you feel this go down? >> Right around the corner. or I felt a snap. I'm like, "Oh, that can't be good." So, I pull over and some guy walking past. >> Some guy walking past. He's like, "I just seen that happen." I'm like, "What? Really?" >> I didn't really feel it. I felt the truck like sideways damn near. >> Gotcha. >> Shai never says how the rear axle came off. Earlier, a witness saw him spinning the truck tires and not long after the rear passenger tire hit the curb and looked close to coming loose. For now, he's acting cooperative, but once the cops start questioning him, his attitude shifts. >> So, what happened with the driving, man? We got a couple of calls that you were driving kind of erratic before this had happened. >> I was just going down Gallaway. >> Yeah. >> I wasn't doing nothing dumb. >> Maybe a little dramatic speed, but >> Okay. >> Other than that, I wasn't doing nothing stupid or nothing. >> How old are you? >> 21. >> 21. Okay. All right. Where are you coming from? >> My home. Where's that? Whose truck is this? >> My brother's Shay. >> Shay. >> Not Shay. >> I'm Shai. >> You're Shy. Shay and Shai. >> Shay. Shaw and Shy. >> Shay. Shaw and Shai. Okay. >> Yeah. >> Did somebody get your ID by chance? >> Uh, she's got it. >> She's got it. Okay. >> I got my actual driver's license if you want that. >> Yeah, I can see that. >> I gave her my identification card. >> Okay. Ch. >> Shy. >> Shy. Yep. Did you guys ask about that? >> You guys ask about >> No, not yet. >> Is that who he gave you? Is that the same name? Shai. >> With four witnesses already reporting Shai's reckless driving and judging by his jittery behavior, officers decide to give him a sobriety test. But it will be the move he pulls afterwards that will totally blindside them. >> Go ahead and put your feet together, hands at your side. All right. So, with your eyes and your eyes only, standing still. Do you want to get the hair out of your eyes or something? Of >> course. Okay. Want to give you the >> Actually, that'd be good for the hat. >> Yeah. >> You can just kind of tuck it in there backwards for me. >> Yeah. >> All right. So, with your eyes and your eyes only, keeping your head completely still, follow my finger. Okay. Do you understand? >> Mhm. >> All right. So, you see like the purple fence right there or the purple gate. So, >> how would you say that's like 20 yards away from us? >> Like 40. >> 40. I don't think that's quite 40. >> That's pretty far. That's probably around 20 yards. 80 yards a foot. >> So maybe maybe the sign here just so we're looking at the same thing. >> Yeah. >> How how a yard is 3 ft. >> 3 ft. 350 yard. 350 yard. >> So So how far do you think go away that is? >> 50. >> 50. >> So should we should we try? Dude, I can smoke that with a baseball. And if I can throw at 50 yards, I should have gone pro. >> You play baseball? >> Used to. >> Oh, yeah. >> But but could you walk there and back with Just make sure you keep your hands at your side. uh looking down, counting out loud each each step. Do you have any questions on that? >> Yeah. >> All right, you can begin. One, two, three, four, five, 6, 7, 8, 9. >> Gotcha. And And you said no alcohol whatsoever today. >> I had nothing to drink. No, I came straight from home with my dad. >> Okay. Was your dad in the truck at the time? >> He was not. He told me I could take it. He's on his way down here right now. Okay. >> Um I've been home since then. Otherwise, I've been sick actually in bed for the past 2 days. So, >> okay. And you you're good to do a PBT just to show. >> Yeah. >> Come on, grab yours. >> You on any med? None whatsoever? >> No. >> Okay. How about like And you said no drugs? >> No drugs. >> No weed. Nothing like that. >> Nicotine? No. >> Nicotine's it? >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> Technically a drug, but not when you can get in trouble. >> Just driving stupid and trying to get to my buddy's house. I don't know. Dumb. >> I'm smart enough to be not driving anyways, but obviously not. So here I just got one more test for you then. So you can go and just step on the concrete. So it's called modified robert. >> So all you have to do >> stand feet together, hands at your side. What you're going to do is you're going to tilt your head back at about 45° and close your eyes. And then you're going to you're going to estimate the passage of about 30 seconds. Okay? So in your head, estimate the passage of 30 seconds. Once you've gotten to 30 seconds, lift your head up and let me know when you got there. >> All right. >> Do I can I have can I have my hands like this? Just hands at your side. All right. >> All right. So, hands at your side, feet together, head back, and estimate >> and estimate the patter. >> All right. >> Uh, begin. >> Fairly close. So, my partner will just do a quick PT and it'll as long as it shows zeros. >> You're not going to let me drive either way, but we're looking for zeros. Crack. >> We're looking for zero. >> So, you just take a deep breath in, blow out like a blow like you're blowing a balloon. Okay. So, show there's nothing here. Okay. >> Thought it clicks, right? So, >> Yep. Just stay tight here. Okay. >> But no, >> look at that crazy [ __ ] >> All right, man. So So you lied about no alcohol today. >> I haven't drank. I actually haven't. >> You were in 071. So did you go on like a vendor last night? >> I went on a I was drinking last night very hard. Yeah. >> What time did you get done drinking? >> 12:00 at night. >> So midnight. How much and what time did you get up today? >> 7. Early >> 7. >> Even with Shai acting sus, the officers know they don't have enough to arrest him. And as soon as he realizes this, his attitude toward them quickly shifts. >> Can I Can I get that straw? >> Sure. >> Oh, sweet. >> So, I mean, so you've been drinking. >> I drank last night. That's it. >> So, what when was your last drink? Did you slam? >> Literally midnight. >> Literally midnight. >> Yeah. I I passed the out midnight pretty hard. >> Okay. How much did you drink? >> Oh, probably a lot. >> A quarter bottle of vodka. Yeah. >> A quart. So I I would think it was more than that cuz just >> I'm a lightweight. I'm a very I'm a lightweight. So >> just before they take your car, do you have insurance on your vehicle? >> He might. It's not my vehicle. >> It It's his truck. >> It's his truck. Okay. Also, is he able to take your dog? >> Probably. It's his dog. >> Okay. >> Yeah. We're We're not arresting you for owi. >> Okay. Just know you were still at >> I get a ride then. Can I get a ride? >> You can probably >> You want my ride? >> Look at that. That's wild. >> Oh, wrong. N we're just going to show him some sitation and then he's free to go with you if you want to take him. Otherwise, you can find his own ride. >> This has a word of warning. Just cuz you drank last night, slept it off and woke up. >> Doesn't mean I'm not drunk. >> It doesn't mean you're not sober. >> That is true. That ain't That is not cool. 71, that's damn near the limit. >> Yeah, you're very >> you're close to being the limit. That's what I'm saying is like >> you got to watch that. You know, >> feeling sober and being sober are two different things. >> You got a point. >> Especially if you're driving. >> Well, if you don't want to take me home, I'll walk down a donut and get a ride home. Hold on. Can I grab less? Am I free? All right, I'm free. >> What the heck? >> He's not good to go yet. >> I mean, he's got a brush under there, too. >> Oh, you run over bushes and [ __ ] >> Well, that doesn't naturally grow under there. Yeah. And there's where over curves and stuff. >> I want to see the camera footage sign if it happened. >> It's time stamp. >> Let's see it though. >> We're not going to show you now. >> But in court and and cord I'll defin I definitely want to see that for sure. >> Yeah. So he he was an 071 and there there wasn't enough in the eyes to to take him. So >> do we think there's something else on board though or just >> his pupil seemed fine? >> Yeah, as of right now I have. Yep. unsafe lane deviation, expedition driving, no insurance, o um DC cuz I guess the second he got out of his car, he was screaming a bunch of swear words, yelling at people on the sidewalk. What the is going on? Like that. So you can get that. >> We're going to hold you here. >> Huh? >> She's going to have a couple citations for you. >> Oh, perfect. Just so you know, since you're revoked due to OWI, it's going to be a crime. >> So O is criminal, so you can get a warrant if you don't take care of it. They ain't going to catch me in a different state. I'll be in Texas. >> Might put that down just to see if they make a full extradition then. >> Let's do it. They don't know what state I'm going to. I'll tell you Texas. Maybe I'm going to North Carolina, Kansas. Who knows? >> Mhm. >> You guys can't keep me in jail forever. >> No. This is a warning. >> That's a warning. >> This is a warning for me. >> Oh, I just got to pull over downtown. I'm not going to jail, but I'm going to the slug's house, too. I know. I got to pull over. Look at this. Ready? Got three cool cops next year. Get off though. >> All right. How long till you're there? >> So I can run away from these guys. >> Oh, don't run away. >> No, you guys won't catch anyway. >> What? >> Well, you know who you are. That's >> This guy ain't going to find me. >> You can't out run the radio. >> Yeah, I can 100%. I've done it all the time on my motorcycle. >> Oh, boy. You're a big guy. That's >> When did you do that exactly? You have >> You probably know. I probably ran from you. No, >> look at the cameras. >> Some cameras don't show us. I want to see it. >> No, I can't hear like what he's saying. I just hear him yelling. >> Pretty proud of what he's doing. >> He won't be. >> He's like, "Just give him just give me all of them. Just give me all of them." >> All of what? >> Citations, all the stuff. >> Well, I am. >> Yeah. >> He's never been He's never been to jail. >> No, but he's walking that line. >> What's that? >> Yeah. >> No, but he's walking the line. We have DC. We have We have misdemeanor bail jumping. We have DC. And we have OR. So, if he's going to be a problem, he can go to jail. I have no problem with that. And as the officers start secondguessing their decision, Shai acts like he can outsmart them all. >> This normal behavior. >> Okay, never mind. Bye. >> I can follow y'all if I want. It's a free world. It's my dad. >> What are you going to tell them? >> Okay, >> let me listen. >> Here's here's the deal, dude. >> Here's the deal. I'm listening. >> You're being You're getting real close to going to jail. >> All right. You guys won't catch me. >> Okay, that's fine. It doesn't go away. It goes away. >> It does not go away. >> In a different state, it goes away. >> A different state. >> I'm going to go to a different state. >> I don't care. >> You don't care. Exactly. That's what I'm going. >> Why are you doing this? You were decent when we first started. >> I want to hear what you're trying to tell my dad for me or something. >> Yeah. >> Well, I can't Why you got to pull my dad away to have a conversation? I'm here. I can listen. This is about me, right? >> So, ask it. >> But I'm not going to partake him. >> I'll see you when you're here before I get arrested. >> Yeah. Just go walk. >> Bye. I'm going to pick you up somewhere else. You guys are [ __ ] You don't know that. We're going to hang out here while I'm not focus. >> And we're running. You're under arrest. Officers are in pursuit. >> He's a good kid when you got him working. He's busy. >> Still going south. >> Was totally fine with us. Went through field sobrieties and all that. And then we like a show. >> Yeah. And >> as I walked up, I I I seen him get louder and louder. It's like just shut up, you know. >> Yeah. He turned it into a criminal thing now. I don't mind. >> We were just going to give him a couple tickets because we had four people call on him. >> Possibly jumped in the water. >> Negative. I have eyes on him now. He's in the water. If >> I'm not under arrest, >> huh? >> I calm down. Am I cool? >> Just come back up here. We can be cool. >> Okay. >> And I'm not under arrest. I freaked out. >> Okay. I I hear you, man. >> Am I okay if I come up? >> Come up. >> I'm not under arrest. >> We got paperwork for you. Is that fine? Just take that and go. >> Just come back up here. >> Can I come to you? >> Get over here right now. >> 156 headquarters. We're at Taser Point. Get over here right now. Come over here. >> Am I okay? >> Come over here right now. >> I'm sorry. >> You do anything stupid, you're going to get tased. You hear me? >> I freaked out. >> Get over here. If >> I freak out, I'm coming. Turn around. Turn around. Stop walking towards me. Stop. Get down on your knees. >> I'm sorry. I really that freaks. >> If you do anything stupid, you're going to get tased. You understand me? >> I understand. [Music] >> We got him. William 141 headquarters. Other units can slow down. We've got them in custody. 10 to >> No. Stop. >> I didn't mean to. I got scared. Hey, so I'll have to react. >> Watch your step. >> Now that he's caught, Shai has much to apologize for, but an apology alone won't fix crap. >> Do you have anything in your pockets right now? >> Nothing. >> Nothing >> other than my pants pockets. >> What's in >> Nothing. Which squad's he going? >> Of course. Can I get a switch? No. >> Uh, do not do not be spitting in my car. >> I spit on my pants. >> You're going to get put in a spit hood. >> All right. >> Not again. >> Sorry. >> And even though the incident on site wraps up, Shai's obvious arrogance and pride haven't dialed down at all. >> Yeah, I'm asleep till morning. Jail's dope. >> Um, I am on my way in with an individual. Don't know if they'll be cooperative or not. They just >> I'll be cooperative. I'll be very cooperative. >> Oh, he's saying he's going to be cooperative. >> I don't mean our stupid shy was charged with misdemeanor, obstructing an officer, operating a vehicle while revoked, disorderly conduct, and bail jumping times two. He was soon released on a $150 cash bond with conditions of no driving without a valid driver's license, maintaining absolute sobriety, and no jumping in the river. But almost a month later, he got arrested again for misdemeanor, operating while intoxicated, second offense, operating with prohibited alcohol content, and operating a vehicle while revoked.
