PUT YOUR HANDS [screaming] UP! I WILL SHOOT YOU! HE'S SHOOTING BACK. He's shooting back. May 6th, 2025, New Mexico, USA. During a routine patrol, a state trooper ran a random plate and hit the driver of a white GMC pickup, 75-year-old Dennis Jones, had an active warrant. The stop was immediate. Hello, sir. I'm Officer Luis Martinez with the Police Department. Do you know why we stopped you, sir? Is there a registration on this vehicle? I have a warrant. You bought this vehicle recently? Yes. Do you have a driver's license on you, then? Are you from Arizona at all? No, I'm never ever. Give the registration and insurance to the vehicle. What the trooper didn't know was this. The elderly man behind the wheel was far from harmless. Jones was wanted for sexual assault and violating bond conditions. He was also a retired veteran with over a decade of combat experience. Knowing he was already wanted, Jones pretended to search for insurance papers, buying time. When told to step out of the vehicle, >> All right, if you can't find it, can you just step out for me? We're going to walk back to my unit, all right? he made his choice. Instead of surrendering, he escalated, turning a traffic stop into a confrontation.
