Where's the suspect at? >> He ran off. >> All right. What direction is that? >> He was northbound on Sanford. >> He shot me in my arm. >> All right. Your arm, too? Hold on. Hold on. We got you. We got you. We got you. We got you. >> On July 17th, 2025 in Akron, Ohio, an Uber driver accepts what should have been just another late-night ride. Minutes later, officers race to a neighborhood after reports of gunfire, where they're met with a scene that's far more violent than anyone expected. As the investigation unfolds, an unexpected phone call is about to change everything. >> I'm going to clear the car. Come on. Clear the car. Rock, on me. >> Huh? >> I got you. >> Akron Police, anybody in there? >> Akron Police, anybody in there? Hold on. Hold on. Hold on. Hold on. Pull up. Are you good? All right. All right. We got an ambulance coming. >> Go straight to the hospital. >> We got EMS en route. We're going to get you up, okay? Don't move. >> Okay. >> Don't move. We're going to get some Why don't you grab something to put on that? >> Yeah, I got it. You know what to do. >> Put pressure. Put pressure on the wound. >> Just put pressure on her stomach. >> Yeah, you can get some pressure on your wound. You need pressure on the wound. I think he shot >> He shot her in her private part. >> Two in the private parts? >> On my stomach twice. >> Okay. Stomach? >> He was yelling. >> A what? >> He was yelling. >> What's that? >> [ __ ] gun. >> Give me Give me a light. What's a skully? Ski mask? >> Yeah. >> Okay, is he white, black, male? >> Black. >> I'm trying. It says a black male wearing a ski mask ran northbound. Said he was in the car with her. >> Officers are doing everything they can to keep the victim alive, and somehow she's still able to explain what happened. If you ask me, that's incredible composure. Every answer she gives could be the difference between this becoming an unsolved case or not. >> It's a Kia Optima. Now, she was Ubering. >> Jesus. >> Yeah. She has it in her hands on FaceTime with her mom or something. We got EMS coming up. We got EMS coming up. Is there any cameras in the car? No. Your arm, too? Hold on. Hold on. We got you. We got you. We got you. We got you. Right here. Two two wounds in the stomach here. We're trying to put some something on it. Okay. Yeah. The mag in the back, too? >> Huh? >> It's a mag on the floor. >> Okay. She said she might >> You got her firearm? >> Yes, her firearm's on the front seat. >> All right. Hey, she's She's locked. Get on the problem. >> Come on. Come >> Can I get my phone? >> I have your phone. Let's worry about keeping you alive, okay? >> Hey, are you going with her? >> Yes. >> Check her phone to see if there's an address she was taking this guy to. She was Ubering him. Okay? Make sure that's unlocked. I bet they didn't get back into it. There's a couple of shell casings and a mag in the back. >> Within minutes, more officers and EMS flood the scene. Shell casings, magazine, and an abandoned vehicle are now part of a growing crime scene. Then, an officer starts checking the suspect's phone location through the Uber trip. In my opinion, this is where the case stops being about what happened and becomes about where the suspects are right now. >> Listen, right now >> I know you're scared. Let me Let me >> I shot somebody, bro. All I'm trying to do is help y'all and help myself. >> Okay, can you step back? >> Okay. >> Let me come out and talk to you. Okay. >> Hold on. Tell me what you need to say. >> My son told me he just a Uber driver three times. Where did he shoot the Uber driver? He didn't tell me. He just gave me a address to come and pick him up. I'm coming from Kenmore >> Mhm. >> going to pick him up somewhere on Kennebec. It's Kennebec. That's the address. So, that's where I'm going to pick him up. >> Did he give you a number for the location? >> associated with no accessory, no none of that [ __ ] >> That's probably >> is my son and I got to go and get my son. >> Do you know what number he's on Kennebec City? >> Yes, I got some numbers. Let me get my phone. >> And I ain't going to >> All right, we're working on an exact address. Jayden's dad is telling us that his son texted him to pick him up on Kennebec Avenue. Uh we're working on the exact house number right now. >> Then comes a call nobody expected. The suspect's own father tells officers his son admitted he'd shot someone. He doesn't want to protect him. He just wants officers to bring him in alive. That's a conversation no parent ever imagines having. And now, officers have a location to work with. >> Okay, that's my oldest son. He going to see about him, too. See? So, >> Okay. >> Go ahead. Go. >> Waiting for you. >> Go. That's my oldest son. So, he's going to see about him, too. So, apparently, he must have called a couple people and let them know what what's going on. So, we need to get over there and find out what's going on with him. >> Yeah, we Yeah, we'd like to get him on the >> And And like I said, it's not just me that's wanting to help y'all. It's It's me, him, and I got another son that's 25 that's willing to help y'all, too. That's coming to do the same thing. Find out where the [ __ ] he at and can we turn him in? >> Yeah. >> So, that's where we are right now. >> We want to get >> We've been telling him for the longest to fly straight. He hasn't been flying straight. He's been doing some ignorance. And now he's here at the point. And we already told him, "You either going to end up in jail or you're going to go >> Yeah. >> somebody, though. So, now we got to help him get through this. >> Right. >> So, I'm going to find him. I don't know if y'all need me to stick around or >> Yeah, just hang out for 1 minute cuz I'm going to talk to the lieutenant real quick. We're going to figure We're We need to figure out something. >> But, I need to be there. My son can't meet me there, and then I was supposed to be there before him. That's not going to happen. So, at the end of the day, you're probably not going to find Jayden where he's supposed to be because y'all holding me up. >> Okay. >> We're We're talking. And I'm not trying to be funny. >> No, I know. I know. You want to go get your son. You want to make sure he's safe. >> You're holding me up. So, if he's probably not going to be there. >> Give me Give me 1 minute. Just 1 minute, all right? >> The father explains he'd warned his son before that the path he was on would eventually end in prison or worse. Sadly, those warnings came too late. With fresh information in hand, officers stop talking and start moving. The next stop could be where this entire case finally comes to an end. >> I'm not going Are you looking at me or are you looking This is not what you not listening to me. Please stop touching me. I didn't do Don't touch me. Don't put with [ __ ] hands on me. Put your hands off me. Please don't touch me. Just like you don't you don't want me to touch you, don't touch me. That is how it works. Don't touch me. I ain't doing [ __ ] Look Look at my hands. >> 9:38 >> Don't touch me. You can do whatever you need to do. Don't touch me. >> Do you have anybody If you notice anybody wandering around your house? >> Wandering around the house? >> Yeah. >> No. Why? What's going on? >> Uh we're looking for someone that's wandering around the neighborhood. >> Like armed or something? Like >> He might be. Yeah. >> Oh [ __ ] >> So keep your doors locked. >> Don't put your [ __ ] hand on me. I don't want my [ __ ] kids I DON'T WANT MY KIDS YOU HEARD what I said. You heard what the [ __ ] I said. You You You and whoever the [ __ ] out here. I don't want my [ __ ] kids I want my kids brought out peacefully. >> Yeah. That's what >> That's it. Can you give me an opportunity to call it and stop telling me to go to my [ __ ] car or you going to put me in handcuffs? Can I do that at least? >> You being a parent. >> Can I do that at least? Yeah, I'm looking at you at you right in your eyes. Can I do that at least? >> Back >> Don't put your [ __ ] hands on me. >> You getting in my face one more time, you going >> [ __ ] hands on me. I don't know who the [ __ ] you think you is, but don't put your hands on me. This ain't that party. This ain't that [ __ ] party. Move, man. Move, man. I'm about to call my son. Move, man. But don't put your [ __ ] hands on me. I don't play that [ __ ] I'll beat your ass. I'll beat his >> Keep your mouth shut or you going to jail. We got major problems right now. We don't need [ __ ] from you. >> The tension rises as officers continue coordinating with the father. And before long, he ends up in handcuffs as part of the investigation. But the search for the shooter doesn't last forever. Investigators later identified 18-year-old Jayden Palmer and on July 23rd, 2025, US Marshals located and arrested him on Shaw Avenue in Akron, bringing the manhunt to an end. >> Yeah, we're just looking for someone. Okay, thank you. Thank you. >> No problem, sir. Watch. >> I was screaming in the whole street. I told you. >> That's not a charge, though. >> You want You want your buddy to have your phone? >> It's got his phone. >> You want him to have your phone? >> Yeah, you can have my phone here. >> What's the charge today? >> Yeah, cardasia. I ain't did [ __ ] though, except for screaming and yelling. All I want to do All I want to do is see my son get out of safe. All I want is to see my son come out the house. >> take a seat. >> No, no, I don't want >> No one wants to hurt your son. >> Huh? >> No one wants to hurt your son. >> All right, and I'm just making sure that nobody hurt him, you know? >> All right, take a seat in the car. >> Do you understand? >> I understand. >> Jayden Palmer, 18, was later arrested by the US Marshals Service in connection with the shooting. So, what do you think? Did the suspect's father make the right decision by contacting law enforcement, even knowing it would likely lead to his son's arrest?
