Dad, where's my dad? Oh, your dad's here. You need to stop with this [ __ ] and get in the car. You're arrested for DUI. Have a seat. You want me to sue the son of a county sheriff because he arrested my kid on a false warrant? Because of son of a false arrest? Get this [ __ ] out of my car. Stop. Have a You did this. Have a nice No, you. That is not on those guys. That is coming. I'm sorry. You're all right. I'm sorry. I mean, I just don't I don't know her issue. embarrassed. I don't 37 years of my life this has never happened to me. 4 months after meeting you I get tackled. You can't take me against my will. These were the moments when cops had to choose between family and the law. Starting with this case where a police officer had to make a tough call when he was called to arrest his own daughter. Dad, Dad. Yes. Where's my dad? Oh, your dad's here. You need to stop with this [ __ ] and get in the car. You're arrested for DUI. Got it. Have a seat. On December 28th, 2022, Howell Township Police responded to a hit-and-run involving a white sedan. Upon arrival, officers discovered a damaged traffic light pole and a bumper piece, leading them to identify the driver, 21-year-old Teresa Lee. Listen. Your bumper's in the road over there. Okay, did you just hit that pole? No, I promise you With no with no bumper? Okay, then. You left Applebee's. Yeah, I left Applebee's. You cut through the plaza. You came out by Lowe's and Chick-fil-A. Did you hit the traffic pole that's right there? Do you not remember hitting a traffic pole? I did not hit the traffic pole, I promise you. So, your bumper's in the middle of the road over there and there's a pole down. This part was hanging off already. So, I already hit something. Okay. When I I hit a deer in Pennsylvania cuz I go to school in Teresa admitted to drinking earlier that night, but denied hitting the pole, claiming the damage to her car was from a previous accident involving a deer. But when the officers compared the bumper piece to her car, her story started falling apart. Do you see this? I hit it before this. This piece fell off at the traffic light that you hit, that you knocked over. Something, I remember hitting something. You can't miss it. It lights up. It's red, green, and yellow. I remember hitting something after Applebee's. Okay. And then you just drive away cuz you're scared cuz you had maybe had one drink and you think you're drunk? Yeah. And you might get arrested, but you don't seem like you're drunk? Yes, I remember hitting something, but I remember hitting something, but I remember like like from like before this, I already hit something and he he was So you're saying there was some damage, but obviously your bumper is over there like this officer was saying. Okay. Okay. This fell off because of already damage. Okay, but it fell off on Leans Mill where the pole is in the middle of the road. Okay. Well, see here's the thing. Your dad, the sheriff's officer, wasn't driving your vehicle tonight. She eventually confessed to texting while driving and possibly hitting the pole, though she insisted it wasn't intentional. Throughout the interrogation, Teresa repeatedly mentioned her father, John Lee, a Monmouth County Sheriff's Officer, hoping he could help her. Hey John, how are you? Uh so your daughter was in Okay. Okay, where where did she What was the deal with that crash? Where's the damage on the car? Okay, the damage on that car on that car there, I think I'm I'm trying to remember off the top of my head. It was like the front right bumper. Can I come out? Are you guys out there? Uh that's up to you. I'll I'll see if she wants you to come out if she wants, you know, you to drive her home. Yeah, all right. All right, I appreciate it. I'll let me let me come out there and and I'll I'll see you guys. Hopefully and thank you. Okay. All right, sounds good. All right, thanks, buddy. All right. While this seemed like the sheriff trying to save his daughter like any other in power, he made it clear this wasn't going to be a typical case of power misuse. So, What she's saying like in where the damage was there it just doesn't really make too much sense though. Try to get some more information out of her but I guess I don't know what she's lying about tonight. So, with the other one was it just like the bumper wasn't hanging like that? Yeah, no. So, what it was is um basically this was intact. Okay. Um this piece was missing but these scratches here, those were all from That's all from uh material achieve. These officers So, right now is it going to be my call? Okay, the driver's coming out. Okay, this is going to be a five car detail. Okay, who is your supervisor? Not that much, dude. I got I'm just asking. I I just want to show you this so you can see it. Um I don't know what time you you initiated the stop. What was it? Uh You home 10-39. What time do you think that initial call came? It's because she probably hit it and was like dad what the [ __ ] do I do? Probably I would say somewhere between 10:45 and 11:00. That's about right. Like I was talking to her she wasn't talking to me at all. I mean I mean lying to her cuz she knows that I'm a cop. She knows she knows not to do that. Well, maybe she didn't even Do you think she not once I'll say she didn't lie. Okay. I want to be very clear about everything but she might not even look at the [ __ ] car to see if there was any difference. Sheriff Lee just wanted to understand the situation. That's why he upheld the law by ensuring Teresa would have to face the repercussions of her actions. I heard everything that happened today. All right, I don't think that you were okay to take the officer's motor vehicle. Dad! Dad! Where's my dad? Oh, your dad's right over here. You need to stop with this [ __ ] Get in the car. All right, you're arrested for DUI. Got it? Back seat. Officers tested Teresa's blood alcohol level, which came back at 0.17% over double the legal limit. She was issued multiple charges including DUI, reckless driving, and leaving the scene of an accident. While this sheriff stood firmly against misusing power, the next father puts his son above everything else, even justice. You want me to sue the son of a [ __ ] county sheriff because he arrested my kid on a false warrant? Because of a son of a false arrest? In late November 2022, Kenneth Adams was pulled over for running a stop sign. What seemed like a routine stop escalated quickly when the officer ran his license and found something alarming. How's it going? I'm good. What did I do wrong? Okay, so the reason I stopped you is you didn't come to complete stop at the stop sign. I did. And then you didn't have your turn signal I sure did. Okay. for a fact I had my turn signal on. Okay. That's why I was surprised you were pulling me over, but Kenneth had an active warrant for burglary and vehicle theft issued a month earlier. When questioned, he insisted he had already appeared in court for the charges. But the open warrant said otherwise, and his defensive behavior only raised more suspicion. All right, can I can I get you to step out of the vehicle with me? What are you doing? No, what what's going on? Seriously, what's going on? You have a warrant. How do I have a warrant? I don't know how you have an open warrant, but it's on our system right now. You have an active warrant out of 7th District Court here in San Juan. I've gone to No, that's incorrect. Okay. Cuz I've gone Well, it's on our system right now. Well, you And I'm not going to argue with you about it. You're going to go to jail tonight on that warrant, okay? Oh, no, I'm not. I I don't Excuse me? Like, no. Okay. This is Dude, this is absurd. you do have an active warrant for your arrest. And you And well, who who issued the warrant though? The The courts have issued it. For for what though? Cuz I've gone to court for everything. There should not be an active warrant for me anywhere, dude. Realizing the situation was out of his control, Kenneth called his mother, desperate for help. But the call didn't change anything. Kenneth was taken into custody as required by the warrant. And even while being taken to jail, he was persistent about not having an active warrant. He's fine. And they're arresting me right now. The cops are, man. Who else would arrest me? Well, my question is is who This is a joke. This is seriously the biggest joke I've ever heard of. When you When you When you turned on your lights, I knew there was something It was issued October 13th. For what? This is when the warrant was issued. For what? Uh has some felony charges, burglary charges. Dude, I've been to court for that. No No, I've been to court for that. All right, listen to this officer. Look that way real quick so I can see that arm. Um well, if I've been to court, then that then why am I getting arrested? I don't know. I don't know what all the court's purposes are for filing the warrant. All I know is there is a warrant, okay? So, that's going to be up to you and the court will be able to figure that out, all right? But things took a sharp turn when his father, Bruce Adams, arrived. As a county commissioner, Bruce used his position to pressure the officer. He demanded answers and started leveraging his position in an attempt to free his son. Hey. Where's Kenneth? He's in jail. They took him. You all right, took him to jail? They took him to jail and I stayed here with the car. Why? For a warrant. Who do I call to find out To find out the warrant? You're a police officer. Tell me who I call to find out why he's in jail. I have no idea. The courts. You can The courts are the only ones who know. I can't get to the court until Monday. Right. Because of a son of a false arrest. It's You saw the warrant right there. He's been charged with that and he has a plea in abeyance on all of it. What do you want me to do? I want you to turn him loose. I can't turn him loose, Bruce. Who can? Nobody can. He's been arrested for a warrant. The courts can. And the warrant's false. Huh? The warrant's not false. Despite the officer's resistance, Kenneth was eventually released after the warrant was mysteriously withdrawn. No charges were filed against Bruce Adams for his actions, but the incident raised serious questions about the abuse of power. These fathers believed they were doing what was best for their children. But the next officer took a far more controlling approach when it came to his daughter. I didn't even see you. Get out of the car. Get in my car. [ __ ] YOU'RE HURTING ME! WHY ARE YOU PUTTING ME? HEATLEY! ON APRIL 18TH, 2018, in Lorain, Ohio, Officer John Kovach pulled over a vehicle citing a seatbelt violation for the passenger. But what unfolded next showed it was far from an ordinary traffic stop. Instead of addressing the passenger's infraction, he went straight to arresting the driver, 18-year-old Makai Coleman, his daughter's boyfriend. You can get out. You're going to jail. Get out. Let me search my car. We'll make it up as we go. Any guns, knives, weed on you? What's that? Don't get smart before I can do something to you even more. As the officer threatened Makai with additional charges, his sister tried to leave the vehicle. The officer had already traced down his daughter's last known location. And so he started questioning the passenger about his daughter's whereabouts. Did I tell you to get out of the car? Did I tell you to get out of the car? Did your dad know my My daughter's in your house? My dad? Yeah. Or is your mom there? My mom's When Kovach spoke to the homeowner, McKay's mother, he made it clear he wasn't happy about her association with McKay. But this conversation soon led to the mother calling 911. My daughter in there? No. Would like to check? Not here. Where Why is her computer there? No, wait. I just got home. I'm making dinner. My kids went to Walmart. Why would you think my daughter would be in my house? I don't know. You know So if I check and you're lying to me, you're going to jail. You can check and I'm not lying to you. See, if I'm not lying, I don't know why you accusing me of lying. I don't have to lie to you. Well, I was told she was here. She's getting a ticket cuz she wasn't wearing her seat belt. So that's going to cost your your daughter. So that's going to cost her $20. Then you can get a warning too. Okay. That's fine. I will. Show your information. You're getting a ticket for not wearing your seat belt. I had my seat belt No, you didn't. You can go to court then. Okay. I had my seat belt on. No, you didn't. Yes, I did. You can go You can plead not guilty and go to court then. I had my seat belt What's happening in your house? No, I don't have to go in my house. Oh, you do. Talk about a liberty issue. If we go to court and I fight that ticket, how am I going to tell the judge that you came to my house? You asked me to disorderly. Would you like to go to jail? You're making this up. this How am I being disorderly? I was wearing her seat belt. I was wearing my seat belt. How am I being disorderly? You're making this personal. You want to ticket my daughter because you think your daughter is in my house. No, she wasn't wearing her seat belt. I'm going to call 911 cuz you're accusing me of lying. I am I am confused. In between this argument, he noticed his daughter, Caitlyn, hiding in McKay's car. But instead of de-escalating, the officer forced his daughter into his vehicle while ignoring a call for a domestic abuse case he was supposed to attend. I didn't even see you. Get out of the car. Get in my car. But, why? All right, you guys are good. Ma'am, you can They can go with you. Yes. Yes. Get in my car. Goodbye. What? Goodbye. Why? Goodbye. Get in my car. You can't You can't take me. I am 18. Goodbye. You can't take her. She's in the door. Goodbye. Hey, you can get back in the car. You're in the door. No, you're not. Get in my car. Why are you taking me? Get in my car. you taking me? You have to give me a reason BY LAW. YOU HAVE TO WHY ARE YOU WHY ARE YOU PUTTING ME? WHY ARE YOU WHY PUTTING ME? GET IN MY CAR. WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS? KEEP IT KNOCK IT OFF. KNOCK IT SHE'S GOING TO THE HOSPITAL BECAUSE SHE SHE SAID SHE was going to kill herself, MICHAEL. NO, I DIDN'T. WHERE DID YOU SAY SHE SAID ANYTHING? DID SHE SAY ANYTHING? I DID NOT. While Kovach insisted on taking his daughter for a psychological evaluation, the department saw things differently. An internal investigation concluded that he acted unprofessionally and illegally throughout the incident. As a result, Officer Kovach was fired from the Lorraine Police Department, ending his career in disgrace. Until now, we've seen fathers making tough calls involving their children. But, in the next case, a state trooper misused his authority out of sheer jealousy over his wife's past relationship. 37 years of my life this has never happened to me. 4 months after meeting you, I get tackled. You can't take me against my will. On August 21st, 2023, Trooper Ronald Keith Davis, 37, obtained a warrant under the Mental Health Procedures Act. The warrant was supposed to help someone considered a danger to themselves, but Davis had other plans. He got this warrant to use against his ex-girlfriend, Michelle Perfano. I don't need help. You I to get away from you. No. No. This isn't normal. I don't care what anybody says. I'm not going to any jail. I didn't do anything wrong. I'm not going anywhere. Absolutely not. Absolutely not. What is wrong with you? Please let me go. You just called the cops on me. You're a cop. You're What the wrong with you? Please get off of me. You You can't just walk up to someone and attack them and then call the cops on them. I didn't do anything wrong except disagree with you. As it turns out, the arrest was allegedly fueled by jealousy over Michelle's past relationship. And despite Michelle's repeated claims of innocence, Davis kept her pinned against a car. He even urged other troopers to speed up their arrival as Michelle resisted, terrified of what might happen next. I don't understand. And I can't relax. You just called the cops on me for existing cuz you didn't like her group. Okay, tell them to step it up. She's fighting me and assaulting me. I don't know why you're Tell them to hurry up. I didn't do anything wrong. I didn't do anything wrong. You can't take me against my will. Michelle was held for 5 days before being released. The trooper was later arrested and faced multiple charges including official oppression, felony strangulation, unlawful restraint, false imprisonment, simple assault, and recklessly endangering another person. Moving on, this sergeant found himself in a difficult position when his girlfriend's reckless actions put a child in danger. Yo, get this mother out of my car. Woah, stop. Damn. You did this. Damn, what [ __ ] you. That is not on those guys. coming. I'm sorry. You all right? I'm sorry. I mean, I just don't I don't know her issue. embarrassed. I don't On September 5th, 2023, officers responded to reports of a black Mitsubishi Outlander swerving dangerously. The caller stated the SUV almost collided with his vehicle, which was carrying an infant. Traffic cameras soon confirmed the erratic driving and even showed the car weaving between lanes before hitting a curb and coming to a stop. Jail, get this [ __ ] out of my car. I'll step out. Get out. Well, my name's Officer Solomon with the Hospice Department, okay? The reason I'm making contact with you is cuz we got a call in that you're intoxicated driving, okay? Obviously, when I saw you, you just drove onto a curb and almost struck a fence, okay? So, I'm going to need you to step out. So, I don't know why you think you're above the law because who you're dating. You're going to get out of the car or I'm going to have to pull you out. Okay, but we're not playing a game like you did with the other officers, okay? You going to get out of the car? I'm not playing any game. I'm not playing any game with you. Are you going to get out of the car? Yes or no? No. Okay. I have one out on arrival. Oh, really? Yeah, really. Oh, really? Oh, what the [ __ ] You're going to listen. The driver, 30-year-old Desiree Ortega, was found to be intoxicated and carrying her infant in the vehicle. Adding to the tension, she was also the girlfriend of a local sergeant. However, the sergeant insisted officers handle her like anyone else. She's all right. I'm sorry. I mean, I just don't I don't know her issue. embarrassed. I don't To avoid any conflicts with the sergeant, officers handed the case over to the sheriff's office. While the deputies tried to understand the whole incident, this deputy decided to go check up on Desiree. Desiree, so obviously we know you were driving, right? And I can clearly smell that you were drinking. I don't know your whole situation. I don't know what's going on, but I just wanted to ask you, do you want to submit to some tests to see if you're fit for to drive? But Desiree had other plans. She resisted being put in the patrol car, even accusing the female officer of being in a relationship with her boyfriend. And at one point, she even kicked the deputy to avoid being put in the car. You're going to catch more charges. Get up. Get up. No, I don't give a Get up. Get up. Get up. You don't want Get up. Get in there. Watch your step. And just Watch your step. Get in there.
