But instead of focusing on herself, she immediately starts looking for her siblings. It's a heartbreaking reminder that while officers are working the scene, a family is trying to understand what just happened. >> Who's this? Who's this? Watch your mouth. Don't touch me. >> I will walk you over to your family. >> Listen to what I'm saying. >> Once the scene settles down, officers turn their attention towards Sony Josephat and begin moving to take him into custody. But before they can get all the answers, another witness has important information to give investigators. >> What happened? >> Yeah, he was talking to the officer and I was asking him, "Can I move my car out of here?" >> Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. >> I mean, I can walk to the car but back here >> Guys leave. >> No, that's fine. We just the suspect was in here, so we got to lock it. >> No, no, no, here's what happened. He came in through that that bushes right there, that opening. He came on this side of the of the car and then he went across the street. Then he went into that clubhouse. Now, there was a white construction truck there. >> Oh, so you saw the guy? >> I saw the guy walking through or running through. >> What did he look like? >> He was about a little bit shorter than me. >> So >> Hold on, hold on. What's that? Um just 1 second. 1 second. So, you saw a guy run out of here? Run out of here, run through here, go across the street. >> Was he white or black? >> He was black. >> A black guy, okay. >> Shorter than me, very thin. >> Did he have anything in his hands? >> No, I didn't see anything in his hands. >> Okay. >> The only thing I The only thing I knew is >> Now, is that before or after you heard something? >> After I heard something. >> What did you hear? >> I heard like about It sounded like 10 pops, stopped, >> then another four or five. >> And then you seen a guy come running out? >> Ran past those tennis courts? >> No, no, he ran in front of the tennis He ran up to the tennis courts, cuz there's a There's a fence. Yeah. >> He ran around as if a clubhouse on the other side of that. >> Yes. >> And then you lost sight of him at that point? >> Right, but then I heard an Looked like it looked like a black SUV or a crossover just peeling out and took off. >> Okay. >> Didn't even hesitate. >> Okay. >> The witness statements now give officers a clearer picture of what happened. Sonny is eventually taken in for questioning, where investigators can finally hear his side of the story and compare it with everything they've already learned. >> What happened? I've been married I've been with my wife for 28 years. >> Okay. >> We were together since we were babies. So, I'm 46 years old old. If we've been together for 28 years, you can imagine how long we've been together. We spent our life together. >> Sure. >> We have two kids. Um but uh the relationship we have family issue in the relationship. >> Okay. >> And >> [clears throat] >> we buy that house uh together. We have been working hard so hard to get it to to get our lives together, right? Um we are to a point where we had family issues. We separated for a while and then she sent me He sent me a divorce paper. I'm not okay. But uh in the meantime I was trying to see if we can get back together because I said we have kids. I understand that we have issue. I have my problem. We have your problem. But let's sit to see how how can we fix things. >> Sure. >> You know, to keep living our life. >> Sure. >> And then she did not want Yeah, she did not want that. So and then um she had a lawyer, a strong lawyer. And then we got to a point where we had to split everything 50/50 because we have we house here. You know, and then she was fighting to have the house for the kids. But I okay, I got to a point I say okay, that's not not a problem. We have two kids already there they in the house already. I'm going to give you the the house for the kids. And then you have another one in Haiti too, but that's not that much. Okay. And then uh the divorce finalized on October, I think, 5th. I can say yeah, a October. >> October of this year? >> Yeah, this year. Yeah. 1 month and a couple of days. The only thing I heard 1 month after divorce got finalized, she going to get married. She got married last Saturday. >> She got married when? >> Last Saturday. December 2nd. And then as a matter of fact, not only she got married um she's moving with her husband in the house that we buy [clears throat] for the kids. >> Sony says anger took over after he saw his recently remarried ex-wife with her new husband. He claims he felt disrespected, frustrated by being blocked from calling her, and overwhelmed by the tension surrounding their divorce. In his mind, what started as a visit to take his daughter to breakfast quickly turned into something much more serious. >> Yeah, and then she blocked me in the phone. I cannot talk to her. Whatever, she did not want to talk to me whatsoever. Okay? But if she wanted to talk to me, I was going to tell her, "Listen, we spent our life together. I was we we worked so hard together to get our life together. I walked out with the divorce empty-handed. Not that she had everything. A retirement plan, you know, her her lawyer fight to give to give her to to to give to her to go to work and together to get that retirement plan. She got the family things. She got all that. She got the house. She got everything. I walked out with the divorce empty-handed. I said, "I have no other problem, but I have three kids with you." She said, "Okay. If you're happy, my kids are going to be happy. I don't have any problem with that, okay? The thing is, officer, I know I know what I did is wrong. I know he did but I was fine with it. I'm not a bad guy. If you want me, we're not going to see I never involved in nothing, you know, I never touched a gun whatsoever, you know? And then yeah, you want to see the >> No, I was saying you you've been nothing but respectful to me, and you seem like a nice person. >> Yeah, and then if she wanted to talk to me about that situation, I was going to tell her, "Listen, you're free to get married. No problem. We could we could we could not get the family together. You you want to get married, but remember, I decided to leave that house for my kids, not for you and your husband to live in. This is so disrespectful. You cannot do that." >> Right. >> You know? >> Disrespectful. >> You cannot do that. You understand? So, and then I was fighting with the idea. I did not want to do that. I was fighting with with the with the idea. Fighting. I could not sleep, you know? >> The idea of >> The idea of doing what what I just what I just did, you know, I didn't I want to do that truly, you know. But I get to a point where I could not get it because first of all she's going to leave in the house with my two kids. I don't know who that guy is whatsoever. I never heard about that guy, you know, but what what's in my mind if 1 month later you you you get divorced 1 month later you decide to marry the guy that relationship was there. >> Sure. It was there when you guys were together. >> You understand what I mean? >> Absolutely. >> That relationship was there. You know what I mean? You know what I mean? You got to do something to do you get married to tomorrow. >> And I've been through a divorce. Okay, my ex-wife got everything too. Yeah. So I understand your feelings. Okay? >> Yeah. >> Sony continues explaining his actions and the investigator tells him that he's also been through a divorce and understands those emotions. But that understanding is part of keeping the conversation going because still need to separate Sony's explanation from what the evidence actually shows. >> Could you just walk me through today? >> Through >> Through what happened today? >> Yeah. What So what happened today and then since I heard that situation >> Mhm. >> I never sleep. I can't. I never sleep. Try to to talk to her. She blocked me in the phone. She she does She didn't want to talk to me whatsoever. If we have been together for 28 years, we have three kids. What's the matter? We can talk. Why? >> If you guys have kids, there has to be >> Why we cannot talk? >> [clears throat] >> You threw me like a piece of trash after 28 years together for someone who just meet. >> Yeah. >> You don't even know who that guy is. >> Right. >> This is not fair. What about our kids? >> Sure. >> You understand what I mean? And then when I get there today, I see her and her husband standing in front of the house of the house, they put a camera in front of the house, on the side. Meaning that putting the camera means that anytime I get closer to the house to talk to my to my to my kids, they want to to see me. Why you want to see me? I You You see what I mean? And then especially you, you don't know what I've been through with my wife. You just get there. You find You find my wife with everything she had. We've been fighting today. My wife she's a nurse practitioner. You know? Working two jobs to help my wife get to where she is now. As a nurse practitioner, I work so hard. I'm an electrician. I don't even have good [clears throat] low back. Working so hard to get you where you are. You know? At the beginning, she did not even have a GED. You understand what I mean? >> I understand. >> We we work together. She has her degree. She has She She She took the CNA. She took [clears throat] the LPN. Uh and bachelor degree associate degree bachelor degree until she Sorry. Until she get to to master degree. >> Wow. >> What I mean I'm not trying to tell you that I don't do anything because when family issue, I have a problem, she has a problem. But don't treat me like a piece of whatever. I don't want to disrespect you. You know? Don't treat me like a piece of whatever. I never did anything for you. Don't treat me like this. Treat me Give me a little bit of respect even though we're not together anymore. You understand what I mean? We're not together, that's fine. You have your life, I have my life. But 28 years together, I have done something. >> Right. >> You understand what I mean? Plus our kids. >> Right. >> You know? And then all of this put a lot of anger in my heart. >> A lot of anger. >> A lot of anger. Yeah. >> I wish that maybe you could have talked to somebody about your anger instead of letting it take over you today, which it did. It's very unfortunate. Cuz like I said, you've now just thrown your life away. >> Yeah. >> And your children will never be the same ever again. >> Yeah. >> Especially if they witnessed it, right? >> Mhm. >> [clears throat] >> So. It's a tragedy. It's been very unfortunate, okay? So. And it's a process. This is just the beginning, okay? You'll be processed today in the jail. And from there, there's court proceedings that will occur. And then eventually a trial, sentencing. So. My role is first step. And then it's the court system after, okay? >> Yeah. >> That's all. >> Sony Josephat, 46, was arrested and charged with two counts of first-degree murder. He was held in the Palm Beach County Jail without bond in connection with the deaths of the newlywed couple. So, what do you think?
