When officers knocked on this man's door with a warrant for probation violation, they expected resistance. What they got instead was one of the most unexpectedly human arrests you'll ever see on body cam. >> Hey, man, what's going on? >> Good morning. We got a warrant for you. >> For what? >> Violation of probation. >> Really? >> Yep. >> Why? >> Did you violate probation? >> No, I was >> You're Day T, right? >> Yeah. >> Yeah. >> All right. What the [ __ ] They told me that I was supposed to uh do drug court and I was >> I don't know We got the warrant in the car. I'll show you the warrant in the car, but I got the warrant in the car for you, man. The man was blindsided. He claimed he'd been doing everything right, staying in contact with his probation officer and even showing up to observe drug court just the day before, but the warrant was real and officers had a job to do. >> I'm running the house. Can I go Can I call probation real quick? >> What's that? You We'll call them when we get outside. >> Probation going to be I'm not going to be able to talk to probation? >> You'll be able to talk to him tomorrow. He thought maybe there was a mistake. Maybe a phone call would sort it out, but what he was about to hear would stop him cold. >> What the hell? I didn't I've been I've been um corresponding with them and everything. I just went yesterday to observe drug court. And then today I was I was supposed to uh >> Well, you must have done something to violate probation. Did you take a drug test today? >> No. >> Yesterday? >> No. >> Okay. >> when I was there, >> Right. >> but we spoke about that and that's why I was observing drug court and [ __ ] you know. >> I got you. I need to call my grandfather and let him know. >> You'll get a call at the jail. >> Can I just call him on the house phone real quick? >> That's fine. Make it fast. >> Was he at court tonight? >> Not tonight, it'll be tomorrow. >> Is the dog supposed to cross eyed? >> No. >> It's a like tip monthly card, right? >> Yeah. >> Yeah. >> What's the thing? >> Nuke, if he got loose you're never going to get him. >> Nuke, he's right here. >> Okay, I feel I feel calm. >> Officers gave him time to grab his medications, make his calls, and get his things together, but before anyone could leave >> This is ridiculous. >> Don't shoot the messenger, man. >> I'm not. I know you guys are I know you're just doing your job. >> Do you got any medications that you take at night? >> Yeah, I do. >> Okay, so if you're going to bring your the bottle with you, just make sure that they're in the prescription bottles, got your name on it, and what you're prescribed. I'd only bring what you need for tonight and first thing tomorrow. It's got your name on there and the pill bottle. I just want to make sure because if not the jail's not going to give them to you, okay? >> Yeah, I do. >> Okay. >> I don't want to leave him out here and get hit by something. Nuke, come here. Okay. >> [snorts] >> I'm not going to go anywhere, man. >> No. >> Nuke. I just want to come and get him. >> Yeah. >> Nuke. Come on, buddy. Nuke, come here, buddy. >> What's that? >> With the dog loose and the arrest on hold, what should have been a routine warrant had turned into something nobody on that porch expected. And through all of it, the man never once gave these officers a hard time. >> We'll come back for the dog when he's ready to come in. Yeah. >> Jimmy, you're going to jail for the night. Right back and I'm going to jail for the night, all right? I know he's [ __ ] wild and he's got the light on. >> You got to put one in your back pocket. Is that the one that you needed? >> Yeah. What the [ __ ] This is what I want to do tonight. >> Well, I'd rather get it taken care of now than You don't want to wait all weekend. >> Or do you? >> No, not really. What about tomorrow, Friday? Yeah, I'll see you at the judge in the morning, for sure. >> You could We can go in there? >> Yeah. >> Okay. Does it got to be locked or no? >> No. >> Okay. What if it was like tomorrow night? Can we pick you up here? >> All right. um do you want me to get you of you and let you know what we got or >> What? My grandfather, yeah. >> Yeah. >> Benny. >> Yeah. Okay. Okay. I'll give him a call real quick and then I'll let dispatch know in case >> My brother might be texting now. >> Most people getting arrested on a warrant don't get this treatment, but these officers had watched this man cooperate every step of the way and they weren't going to forget that. >> Okay, buddy. >> All right. >> We're just going to step over here, okay? All right. So, I'm going to cuff you up front, okay? And as long as you're going to be good with me, I'll let you use your phone on the way to the hospital, okay? >> Yeah, I'm going to have to call my dad. >> Um All right. Nothing in your pockets, right? You got everything inside. >> Yeah. Just these are my keys. >> All right. Those aren't too tight, are they? >> No. >> All right. I'm just going to check real quick, okay? I'm just going to check these up front with you, though. >> Yeah. >> Nothing in this pocket in here. >> Uh-oh. >> All right. Hop in, okay? I'll pass this over to you and you can hook it over there for me. >> No. >> He was cuffed in the front, handed his phone, and on his way to see a judge by morning. A man who swore he did everything right caught in a system that didn't get the memo. And in his last breath before that squad car door closed, he had one final confession >> I was pulled over earlier that same day. >> He just started smoking weed.
