Show me your [ __ ] hands. >> Show me your hands. Now, >> a Greensboro officer responding to a trespassing complaint suddenly found himself facing a suspect armed with multiple weapons. Within minutes, the encounter escalated from verbal commands to deadly force, ending with one man shot and killed behind a residence. >> The incident happened on August 5th, 2025 at approximately 4:06 p.m. in the 1600 block of Marian Street in Greensboro, North Carolina. Officer Wyatt was flagged down by a resident reporting a trespasser on nearby property. The suspect was identified as 48-year-old said Ezim, a man the officer already knew from previous encounters. According to police, Ezin had a history that included assault related charges involving officers. Officer Wyatt approached and attempted to investigate the complaint, but the situation quickly became tense. Police say the officer had reasonable suspicion to detain Ezim during the trespassing investigation. Officer Wyatt repeatedly ordered him to stop. Ezene refused. Instead, he continued walking away while ignoring commands. At one point, the officer drew his taser in an attempt to gain compliance without escalating the situation. But the taser was never fired. The officer holstered it and continued issuing commands as Ezene walked deeper onto the property. That's when the encounter suddenly escalated. As Ezene approached a shed in the yard, he grabbed a metal steering wheel lock and began moving toward Officer Wyatt. The officer immediately ordered him to drop the weapon, but Ezene refused to comply. Moments later, he returned to the shed again. >> This time, Ezin came back holding a saw blade. That's all I need. >> Police say he again advanced toward the officer while brandishing it. Officer Wyatt continued giving commands for him to drop the weapon. Ezine eventually threw the blade onto the ground. >> But the confrontation still wasn't over. >> And let me check to make sure you ain't got no weapons. >> Come on, man. Let's not do this. According to investigators, Ezene then picked up a large pipe wrench and once again advanced toward the officer. >> After repeatedly refusing commands and arming himself multiple times, the officer fired his service weapon. >> Ezene was struck by gunfire. >> Despite being wounded, he got up and ran behind the residence. >> Officer Wyatt moved around the home before locating Ezene in the backyard area. The officer immediately requested EMS as another officer arrived to assist. Police say officers attempted life-saving measures, but said Ezim died at the scene. On May 4th, 2026, the Greensboro Police Department announced that the Guilford County District Attorney determined Officer Wyatt's actions were justified under North Carolina law. Investigators concluded the officer acted lawfully based on the threat he faced during the encounter.
