A woman at a flea market realizes her phone is missing. About an hour later, she notices it moving on its own before it eventually stops in a residential area. At the flea market, officers review nearby business cameras and confirm that a man picked up her phone and left in a gray truck. The phone's location and the matching license plate both lead police to this address. Officers arrive at the house and body camera footage captures what happens next. Somebody just came to the window. >> Yeah. You don't mind? >> Hey. >> Hey. >> How you doing? >> Good. How are you? >> Good. Where's the fellow that drives this um truck right here? this gray truck. >> Oh, it's because uh last night um we couldn't find the the key from that one to take it out and get in on the >> this gray truck. >> Oh, the gray >> Yeah. >> Oh, no. Um >> who drives that truck? >> It's uh my It's my mother-in-law husband. >> Okay. Is he here? >> Yeah. >> And tell him to come. >> He's not the owner. >> Okay. Well, tell him to come here. >> Does he have a goal? He might not. Yeah, >> it's a iPhone Otter box. >> I think he was taking a shower. >> There was two people in the truck when it all went down. He's He's getting closer. >> Isn't it for a phone? >> Yeah. >> Oh, he found it on the on the flea market. >> Mhm. >> And then he get it. I I have it there. I was waiting for somebody to call. >> Oh, okay. Who went with them >> to the flea market? >> Just my my mother-in-law and he >> just took it from the from the from the floor. >> Gotcha. >> He's going to get it. >> Okay. That's him, right? >> Yeah. >> Yeah. >> Got you. >> Yeah. He uh they went to I put it to in charge to charge it cuz uh it was 5%. So I I put it to charge it. So if they >> Do you have your ID, buddy? In your wallet there in your pocket. >> How come he didn't take it to the office? >> Huh? >> How come he didn't take it to flea market office? >> Well, he found it outside. So >> yeah, he just >> Can we pull that door close for just a second? Oh, >> perfect. Very good. >> Hands together for me. There you go. >> So, here's the deal. You can't go just taking folks phones and taking them to your house. Okay? If it's lost and you're trying to get it back to its owner, especially if you're at a business, most people just take it to like the office at the flea market or, you know, the counter at a gas station or a store. They don't take it home with them, right? >> Okay. So, what can we do now? >> Right now, y'all can wait until he gives you guys a call from the jail and see about bonding them out. >> Okay. Well, he's saying because he didn't know even the office. >> Well, I guess he can save that for for court. >> Okay. >> You got to make a reasonable attempt to get it back to its owner. Taking it home is not a reasonable attempt, right? >> So, you want to leave these keys here. How about How about your wallet with you or here? Yeah, he can take it. Can he take just his license? Let's go. Let me just >> Okay. No kidding. Can you uh take him out or something? I I got like 12 miles on the on the thing. 7:30 radio run a 27 out of Illinois. >> Yeah, I got it. Hotel 66. Correction. Very good. Thank you, sir. I'm gonna return the phone back in and >> that'll be good, right? Perfect. I'm just going to square away. I appreciate you. >> You're welcome. >> I got to kind of explain to you. You want to stay out here? That's fine, too. Like I kind of explained to you, uh, you know, anytime you're finding lost property or whatever, you've got to make a valid attempt, right? Um, and it's just like if y'all were to lose your phone and you know, I take take it back up. I live two counties away. if I was to take your phone to my house, you'd be thinking, "Why the hell did somebody take my phone?" Right. Um, so that's just kind of the deal with it. Um, in a couple hours, he'll be able to see a judge. Either if it's not sometime this afternoon, it'll be sometime tomorrow. Okay. He'll be able to see the judge. He'll give you guys a call and you'll be able to come get them. Okay. Okay. >> So, it's pretty simple. I hate that it has to happen this way, but I mean, >> it is what it is, right? >> Yeah. He didn't milk it, so >> Yep. So, >> we just moved here, so >> Okay. Well, y'all take care. The man was charged with theft of lost or mislaid property, but the case was ultimately dropped after he completed a pre-trial diversion program. However, in the next case, judges were not as lenient. At 9:00 a.m., a beverage delivery driver arrives and unloads multiple pallets of drinks at a gas station. >> Mhm. >> I've heard it all now. Right. >> It's like the things you see in here. So, this is him. >> All right. He uses his $4,000 pallet jack as usual to move the beverages toward the back of the store, leaving it unattended while he places the drinks inside the cooler. This is not a quick process. And in that time, a man later identified as 33-year-old Shawn takes advantage of the moment. He climbs onto the pallet jack, briefly lies down to rest, even reads a newspaper, and then eventually takes the delivery driver's pallet jack and wheels it away through the grass. He moves a short distance out of sight of both the delivery driver and the officer. You >> guys want to do as a company? Do you want to press charges? It's okay. I find it. Okay. Yeah, I find it. Let me let me talk to my supervisor. >> Yeah, talk to your supervisor real quick. I'm still going to get your info. >> Yeah. >> Hey, Chris. Uh, do you want to do a charge for that or >> what do you do you want? Do you want to pursue to do a report? Police report? >> I'm going to do a report anyway. >> Uh, he want to do a report anyway. So, so >> I just need to do you guys want to if if I mean technically didn't steal it steal it steal it. >> I I mean but do you guys >> you want to do a statement and tell us what happened? >> You want to do a statement and say what happened or leave it like that. >> Tell him don't worry about it. No, >> don't worry about it. Yeah. >> I still just need your ID real quick. >> Okay. Cuz if it is the same guy that I've been looking for, it's just one one more thing I can just, you know, >> I guarantee you he was trying to sell that pal Jack to that romac guy. >> Guarantee it. >> So, do you have any other video where he went or we stuck on that? Are we stuck on that one corner? >> That front door one. >> She's over there. >> Black shirt, gray shorts. Gray shorts. >> It's like khaki cargo. >> All right. Thanks, brother. Appreciate, man. >> Thank you. >> You're welcome. >> Oh, that is him. That's my guy. >> Hey, I mean my friend to help us. >> I'll come back. Let me go look for him. I want to go see if he's around stuff. >> Hey, you know that burglary I had over at the Allstate place? Uh the same guy I think was just here trying to steal a pallet jack uh from a Budweiser guy. I'm just going to patrol around. to find him real quick. >> Officers scan the area and spot the man a few hundred feet away in the grass where he abandons the pallet jack and takes off running. The officer immediately returns to his patrol vehicle and moves quickly to cut off his escape. >> Stop, man. Don'ting move. >> Take it easy. >> Get on the ground. Get on THE [ __ ] GROUND NOW. GET ON THE GROUND. Get on the ground. Get down on the [ __ ] ground. PUT YOUR HANDS OUT ON THE GROUND. >> ARMS BEHIND YOU NOW. PUT YOUR HAND BEHIND YOUR BACK. >> RELAX. >> Other hand. Give me that hand. >> Take it easy. >> Give me the other hand. >> Take it easy. >> Take it easy. >> 296 detail traffic. >> I can't breathe. I'm having a medical. >> Cool, man. Roll over. Sit up on your butt. >> I'm having a medical. All right, man. Go ahead and stand up for me. Stop reaching in your pockets. Don't do that. >> Reaching in his pockets. >> You tossed that on the ground. >> Huh? >> He was reaching in that pocket right there. >> I stand. That's it. Got a couple pair of shorts on. Middle 6. Uh-huh. Ford ID card. >> Oh, yeah. >> All right. I need to go to a hospital. What do >> you need to go to the hospital for? >> Why you keep dude? I'm not reaching for anything. >> You are. Sean, stop. >> I'm not. >> I am not. >> Sean, I've been looking for you. >> All right. You want to get him walked over to your car? Let's go. So Austin's saying he's matching the guy that just broke into the uh All State with us a couple weeks ago as well. So he's the guy that stole the pallet jack over here apparently or was trying to he tried to steal the pallet jack. Yeah, he came through here up through the uh the thing over there. I was just looking for this guy down over by the wawa. >> Yeah, he came up through the ditch. He was Austin was chasing it from over here. So I don't know if he discarded anything. I don't have a canine right now to do a search. >> Please, please. Man, please. I'm stand right here. >> Legs in. >> Will you please give me some water, please? >> Legs in. Please. >> Please. >> Nice job. >> He came to sit. >> He was sitting here. >> No, he came back to the store. I had to go out to get her wallet. He stole their Did he steal their thing, too? >> No. >> So, he was at He stole the Budweiser's pallet jack, brought it behind the store and got stuck. He's sitting there reading a newspaper. Comes back around, comes in the store, uses the bathroom. I came out to look for him and she went to go get her ID. She says, "Holy [ __ ] >> he's right. >> He's right at the door." I go out to talk to him, ignores me. I use my big boy voice and come here. And I have my handcuffs out to go handcuff him, but he just booked it. So, it's good job. Yeah. >> All right. I literally just fell through here. >> I know, right? >> What do you want, John? Stay here. >> Huh? >> I need an ambulance. >> What do you need an ambulance for? >> All right, I'll get you an ambulance. Don't go to jail. >> For what? >> Huh? >> For what?
