A neighbor calls the police after noticing the lights on in the house across the street. This immediately stands out because he knows the elderly woman and her son who live there are out of town and no one should be inside, especially not at 10:30 at night. Officers arrive and begin canvassing the exterior and it's not long before they come face to face with an unexpected visitor. As they move closer to the main entrance, they spot a woman quickly stepping out from the garage. >> Excuse me, ma'am. Orlando PD. Yes, ma'am. We got a call that nobody was supposed to be here at this house. >> Really? >> Yes, ma'am. >> And who was that on the phone? >> Uh one of the neighbors. >> They see me here all the time. >> Yes, ma'am. Can I ask Can I ask your name? >> Sure, it's Laura. >> Laura? >> Yes. >> I got you. What's your last name? >> King. >> I'm sorry, it's Laura what? >> King. >> King, you said you come here all the time? >> Yeah, I mean, they've been gone for a while. >> Yes, ma'am. >> I know it's helping to like pack their stuff up and stuff like that. >> Okay. So, is that what you were doing in here now? You're just helping them pack their stuff up? >> probably like maybe 2 hours. >> 2 hours, okay. Do you know the homeowner's name? >> Um it is Ruth. >> Ruth what? >> I can't remember her last name. I think her I think it's Martha and they call her Ruth. I call her Ruth. >> Her name is Martha and you call her Ruth? Okay. Okay. So you were just in there packing up today? >> Yeah. >> I got you. So if I give the homeowner a call, she'll know that you're here? >> Yeah. >> I got you. Do you have her phone number where you can contact her like >> I don't. >> So you haven't been in contact with her? >> No, I mean we she had left a note and I come over and I look for the key. She was really confused. So I got the key and went in and just started cleaning. >> You got an ID on you? >> I do. >> Okay. I want to talk to the homeowner. I got you. I'll get her ID for you and everything. Cool. When When When did you last talk to the homeowner? >> Uh well, maybe 3 months ago. >> 3 months ago? >> Maybe. >> 3 months ago So So 3 months ago you talked to them and she said you're fine to come in here and do your thing? >> Yeah, I mean and they haven't even been back. >> Well, that doesn't make sense. Where Where is the key at? >> Uh right there. >> How did you know the key was there? >> Because they told me. >> They told you 3 months ago? >> I mean I had come over here she said you could come clean and stuff. >> Okay. Is there anybody else in the house right now? >> No. >> All right. I want to double check the house for anything. >> Okay. >> We can really use your number or your cell. >> Okay. >> 600 special can you get me a unit? No, but but my life. >> I'll stand here and walk back. >> Right now you Right now you're detained and >> So, they contact the neighbor who made the initial call and ask him to reach the homeowner. Meanwhile, the woman continues pleading her side of the story. >> Have him call the neighbor or the owner right now confirming that no one's supposed to be in there. >> He does have spot on him right now. >> Do you have number? >> It would be different if I wasn't trying to lock up. >> So, so well basically you haven't talked to the homeowner Never mind. Just don't say anything to me right now. We'll read you some things. If you want to talk to us then you can talk to us. Based on what everything you just told me makes no sense. >> Then the woman suddenly realizes which neighbor made the call and reported her. >> This [ __ ] he sat here and watched me. >> Who? >> He did. Look, he lives right there. He's outside the whole time. >> Yeah, that's who called. Stop yelling at me. >> That's so [ __ ] up. >> That's [ __ ] up that a neighbor's watching another neighbor's house? >> No, but why would you sit there? >> Now we're talking. Zip it. >> Why would you sit there and and watch this? I sat here. >> Stop. Just stop. >> They sat out there and talked for I I don't know. >> You know anything about mail, the shorts and hidden >> So, we we just got her coming out. I saw I briefly saw a shadow. I don't know if she's with anybody or not. >> I mean, I just think they're like >> Yes, if you don't mind. Come on. Well, I know. It's very very I got her I got her the hurting stuff. >> I got you. >> She had jewelry and stuff in the pocket. >> This is him on the phone right now. >> Okay. >> Hey, Bobby. >> Yeah. >> That you on speaker, so you can talk to her. >> You're taking a report that >> Okay. >> It's your caller. >> I'm the driver. >> You got to want to say ask me anything. Hey, it's Officer Dutra, Warner Police Department. >> Yes, sir. >> So, who's the What's the name of the homeowner here? Martha Sh >> She owns the home, and her's is my mother. Martha Sh >> I got you. Are you the one who who looks after this place? >> Yeah, we've been trying to get it cleaned up so we could sell it. I had to move her up here cuz her health got so bad. I'm in the long run. >> I got you. Um do you know Is there anybody else that's supposed to be in this house at all other than, you know, you? >> Mhm. No, sir. Me and my mama. That's it. >> Me >> And yeah, the of course our neighbor over there. He's a good dog. >> Okay. So, you didn't give anyone permission to come in at all? >> No, sir. >> Do y'all have like jewelry and watches and stuff inside? >> Uh she had some fake jewelry and some different stuff inside, yeah. A lot of different jewelry in the back bedrooms. We cleaned most of the other stuff out. But, she did have a little bit of stuff left. >> Is there anything else of value in the house that, uh you know, we we need to be on the lookout for? >> No, not that I know. We we had cleaned I said we cleaned most of it out. There was just some minor stuff, and there was nothing major. >> What did she say has she got any >> All right, so it looks like they she broke the one of the glass or the little plastic pane. Uh, and just reach your hand in and and then unlock it. >> Here around back? >> Just right here. >> Right here? >> Yes, sir. >> But if I just want to confirm, um, you do want to press charges on her? >> Yes. >> Okay, awesome. Well, if you did hear make yourself known. >> They search the inside of the house and quickly discover a broken glass panel, apparently used to reach in and unlock the door. They also find multiple jewelry boxes that have been rummaged through. The woman is then identified as Miranda and is taken in for questioning about what actually happened. However, the more she explains the less believable her story becomes. >> We'll get the rest of your stuff later. If I was going to try to steal stuff, I would have had my whole bag. >> This is the lady's. It was on the floor in my patrol car. She said it was it belongs to the lady. >> Yeah. >> She just had it in her pocket because she knew that it was the lady's. I read her her Miranda rights, all right, and she agreed to talk. >> Cool. >> Appreciate it. >> I mean, if I was trying to steal stuff, I would be loaded my bag. >> Do you have any personal belongings inside there? >> No, just my purse that I'm hanging out. >> Just your purse? >> Mhm. >> The jewelry that's on your wrist or anything, is that is that yours or not yours? You don't have anything? >> No. I mean, you can pat me again and again. >> Well, I did that already. >> You know, she just had her rings again. Well, I had them in here. >> Yeah, what what about all those rings in your pocket? Who Who are those? >> I was wiping down in the kitchen or I was clearing away in the kitchen. >> Okay. >> And then, just step them there, finish what I was doing. Um I would put stuff in the room. >> What room? >> Like their room. >> Okay. >> Um >> And who's they? Can Who's Who's the homeowners again? What What What's the male's name? >> I don't I can't remember his name. Her name is I believe it's Sue. >> Okay, cuz you told us Go ahead. >> They I think I'm I'm calling Sue. >> What about Martha that you told us originally? He just >> Hey, hey, I know I know you saw the He didn't see you at all. He saw the lights on in the house. >> How'd you get in the house? The key. >> Where's the key at? >> It was up under the thing I showed I showed you. >> Mhm, there's no key there. >> Where's the key at now? >> I didn't take the key. >> I did. >> I'll go double check, but >> Listen, y'all y'all You don't like your >> Did you say she has more stuff in her? Cuz I just asked you that. You said no, everything was >> I mean I didn't I mean I know that's what you're asking about, but I didn't notice it at the time. It didn't strike me as odd. >> So I just asked you if anything was broken, missing, out of the ordinary, you just said no. >> I mean no, I didn't really pay attention to it. >> Were you under the assumption that you could take all the jewelry and stuff? Cuz if you're just here packing and cleaning, >> No, I I was under the assumption I'm going to uh, wipe this down and take this where it goes. Uh, and that's run home and get a little something for dinner. That's why I was locking up. For dinner and I was going to come right back. I mean I wasn't under any assumption at all while I was here doing you know, what I was doing. >> The woman was charged with burglary and theft by taking and the Winder Police Department booked her into county jail. She was later sentenced to 1 month in jail followed by 5 years of probation. As always, share your honest thoughts on this case. Do you believe her claim that she was simply packing up belongings for the couple? Or was she clearly there to do something much more obvious and got caught in the act? All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Let me know your thoughts down below in the comments and I'll see you in the next video. >> Here. Put the bag down. Right now you're being detained, okay? >> Okay. The key was right there. >> Take off. >> [ __ ] he sat here and watched me. >> Who? >> He did.
