The young man was riding the go-cart. She hit him. He went back. She hit him again. >> No, I'm sorry. You okay? She was like, "I think my tooth is broke. He was threatening me. I think he threatened He think he said, "I'm going to kill you." >> On April 15th, 2025, what began as an ordinary Tuesday in a quiet Marion County neighborhood turned violent without warning. By the time it was over, a 66-year-old woman named Julia Castle was bleeding in the middle of the road, and deputies were left trying to piece together how a go-cart had become a weapon. >> 10-54 on a 24, but it is going to be a 33. Yeah, I'm just waiting. So, they're inside at that point. >> Do you know how to work it? Well, feel free to do Don't delete it, though. >> Oh, I won't delete it. No. >> Can I come right back? I I want a cigarette. Can I come back out? >> Yeah, do you want to >> I'm just going to record the video with my phone. >> Officer, do you need to take pictures of my >> I got that for you. >> Can I shut this off now? >> Yeah, I recorded the video on here. >> I've had problems with them before. That's why >> Where else are you injured? >> But, here is a little thing, and then this is a big thing. >> Okay. >> You all right, take the bandage off, or do you want to take a picture of my teeth? >> Yes, and your face. Okay, and then just lift your lip up. Just like that. That's good. That's good. Okay, thank you. >> Should I get the stuff off of you to see it? >> Okay, yeah. Just make sure you don't drop it or anything. That way you can put it back on. >> The first deputy on scene went straight to Castle, and what she found wasn't minor. A deep laceration across her forearm, swelling in her hand, bruising along both arms, and from her mouth, broken teeth, a split lip. Castle offered to remove the bandage so everything could be documented. And as the photos were taken, one detail surfaced immediately. This wasn't the first time there had been problems next door. >> I was right here when the [ __ ] all occurred. >> That's good, ma'am. All right, Ms. Julie, I'm going to go over to that house real quick. I just want you to stay over here if you don't mind, okay? I'll come back and talk to you in just a minute. Okay. >> Five or six of them, so their story is going to be different, but you saw what it was on the tank. >> Yes, ma'am. >> Cuz they lie a lot. >> Castle believed the suspect had already fled the scene. The deputy noted it and kept moving. There were other people nearby, other accounts to collect, and the full picture of what had happened on that road was still being pieced together. >> Hey. >> Hi, you doing? >> Good. What's going on today with the neighbor? >> Same old neighbor. >> What happened today, though? >> I was in the house. >> tore up. >> I was in the house. From my understanding, the young man was riding the go-cart, she hit him. She went back. She hit him again. He came back. And I guess from the little lady said that she was wiping up wiping it he was wiping his face. And she was standing in the middle of the road. And He yelled something. And that's all I >> Who is it? Who was it that was riding the go-kart? Oh, I don't know. Don't don't lie to me. >> I was in the house. >> Better yet. >> Yes. >> Well, just do this. >> Yes, let's just do this. Cuz I was in the house. >> This is who I need to know who it is because there's a piece of this video that's missing that I need to speak to them about. Okay, let me put the volume on cuz you can hear it. This is her recording. >> Well, I don't know. Let me get my daughter. I wouldn't do anything. >> Is that your daughter? So, there's more. Is that your daughter with the long hair? >> Yeah, they just grabbed yeah. >> Okay. >> Hold on. >> The deputy moved to the neighboring property. A woman came to the door. She had been inside when it started. From what she understood, the young man had been riding the go-kart, Castle had hit him, and things had escalated. Her account was vague. The deputy wasn't satisfied. She pulled up the video footage, and the woman leaned in, studied the screen, and recognized someone. It was her daughter. >> Hey, who's the guy that was on the golf cart with the incident with the neighbor? >> The who? >> The guy that was on the golf cart with the incident that happened with the neighbor. Who is that? >> My brother. >> Okay. How old is he? >> Um >> Is he an adult? >> Yeah. >> What happened with the incident from what you saw? >> Well, well, him and my nephew was out here riding the golf cart and playing catch. We was all out here. Well, he was out here talking and stuff while he and my nephew was riding. And I heard some screams. And then we came down there. And then he came back and I was like, "What? What happened?" And he was like, "Nothing. She I saw the lady going in the house." So, we came back and then he stood up um the carport. And then I heard some more it was they still was out here riding cuz I was in here with my my baby. >> Mhm. >> So, they was out there riding. So, then I heard my nephew come and he was like um He was like, "Payton." I was like, "What?" And he was like, "The girl and lady." So, I went out there and I was like, "Come up I was like, 'Payton, come on come on in the house.'" And he came he came by. I mean, he came down. And then he turned around and went down there. And that's when the lady was she was in the road and she like swatted at him. And I was like, "No, no, no. Come on, come on down. Come on down." And then she had the um tampon. She had the the little What's the thing? The little camera or whatever it was called. And that's when he was coming back she was in the middle of the road. And she was like uh Payton my brother was like, "Uh you need to move. You need to move cuz it's something with the wheel something like you need to move you need to move." And I was like, "Payton." I was like, "Come on, come on." I was like, "Just come in the house. Don't even worry about that." And she like lunged at him and then the golf cart I mean not golf cart the golf cart was coming and he hit her. So, I immediately ran down there and I uh I yanked him up off the golf cart. And I lost like my shoe. I lost my shoe. So, I was playing around and I had like the back of his his uh pants and stuff and I had to pull him up to get my shoe. And then I yanked him and she was walking beside me. And I looked at her and I was like, "You okay?" She was like, "I think my tooth is broken." And I was like, "Payton." And I was like, "Payton." Then he went down there and my mom and my niece and my nephew and stuff came out there. And she had them went in her house and then we came out here. >> Okay, where did he go to? Cuz I keep hearing on the video and you have now said that she hit him first. Does he have any injuries from that? >> To honestly, I have a 1-year-old. So, my whole incident cuz it was cars it was cars in the road and the incident was happening the go-cart was still running. I I honestly, I came >> go-cart, I assume? Okay. >> My well, I came in here cuz my mom ran out here which is my mom. My mom ran out here and she had my baby. My baby was down. So, when we came we all came in here. I came in here with my baby. >> Her daughter had seen it unfold in real time. The man on the go-cart was her brother riding with his nephew when the shouting started. For a moment, it looked like it might end. Castle went back inside. The tension dropped. Then the child came running and whatever had paused started again. Castle was already on the road. He told her to move more than once. She didn't. Then came the impact. Castle hit the ground. The witness pulled her brother away ending it before it could go further. >> So, from what you saw though, she didn't actually get hit by the go-cart. She stuck her hand out. >> was like, "Okay, if y'all look at the records, we done had many calls." >> Yeah, yeah, no, no, I know. >> Yeah, so it was like she comes out when the kids comes out and they do stuff. So, it was like, "Okay, so he was coming." >> I'm trying to figure if she got knocked because she reached out. >> she was Okay, so Okay, can I tell you I'm not trying to Okay, so my brother was coming in this direction. Her house was there. He had passed her one time and she swatted and she smacked him in the back of the head. And I was like, "No, no, no, pick him out. Come out cuz if you hear it on the camera, I'm yelling at him. I'm like, "Come out." Like, "Come out." So, he was coming this way. She had done went. First, she was over here to swat him cuz he went on the right side. He was in the grass. When she swatted him, then he had to turn around. So, she like went in the middle of the road. He was coming. I was like, "Pick him out. Come out." And he was coming. He was coming down and he was like, "Move. I I can't you cuz y'all can crank this up and ride this go-cart like the Something wrong with my nephew. Like, "Duh, turn the thing." It was like he was like, "You better you better move cuz I can't turn I can't control he can't turn." I don't know the exact words he used. She was standing literally right there. He was like trying to turn the thing and she was like, "You." And she leaned over and then hit the golf cart and >> he was already gone. >> Yeah, she was literally Yeah, she really she was >> she actually get hit with the golf cart or >> Yeah, she It like Okay, so if you like in the golf cart and I'm her, she was in the middle but I guess she seen that the like the golf cart really was coming. So, she like did like this and >> You see this little pole? >> Uh-huh. >> That's what like got her cuz she was you know she got >> her arm. >> Yeah, she got turned off in there and everything and that's how she fell. >> Okay, that makes more sense cuz I couldn't figure out how that golf cart would be going over her whole body. >> No, he did not go No, I promise the guy did not go over her whole body. Yeah, he >> That's what I was trying to figure out cuz I was like, "That, there's no way." >> No, her arm was like cuz she was Like you know if you looking at something you like, "Oh, you really coming my way? Like you you really you really right here?" So, she was like I guess cuz like I said she smacked him when he burst in with it. So, I guess when she was coming back she was looking at him like, "Oh, you So, you know like you hitting somebody but you trying to move out the way at the same time." And and she's older so the speed of it and her moving she got hooked up with the thing and like turned her and she fell. And then I grabbed him off the golf I grabbed him off of the golf cart and I was like, "Come on." That's when I said I lost my shoe. So, I was turned around and I was grabbing him looking for my shoe and I was pulling him. So, I pulled him I pulled him and we came back this way. Like so, my mom had my baby so I got my baby and I went in the house cuz my baby was crying. She don't like this thing. So, I went in the house with my baby. >> Okay, where did he go to cuz I need to get that statement from him that he got hit by her. >> I was in the house. I don't know where he went what direction cuz like I said I cuz my shoe I just took a shower and everything. My shoe and everything I I was in there barefooted and her you her blood stuff was down there so I was like, "No." And I I my baby so I honestly I don't know where he went to. >> Okay. >> I just washed my baby when I just took a shower. >> Okay. >> So, I don't know. >> Was there anybody else that witnessed what happened, just so I can have another perspective Who was the other You said your Well, was your No, you're not He wasn't out there anymore. >> No, he was coming telling me like So, he was screaming, but he was It's like when he Remember I told you that first went through and they was I told you I heard him screaming. He was coming telling screaming. Then when we went out there >> That was already >> Yeah, no, she She would have went in the house. So, I came back under here. And then he had kept riding and kept riding. And then when I came out the second time from the screaming, that's when everything transpired. >> Okay. >> Her account didn't shift. The go-kart hadn't run Castle over. That wasn't what she saw. Castle stepped into its path, reached toward it. The frame made contact, and she went down. But that wasn't the full picture. There was something else. Earlier, as he first passed, Castle had struck Delvon Thornton in the back of the head. A detail that changed the sequence and raised a different question about how this started. Then the gap. After she pulled him away, the witness went inside with her child. She didn't see where Thornton went next. And without him there to answer for it, the timeline wasn't complete. >> Did you see him hit her? >> No, I seen her hit him. >> Okay. When he was coming Well, when she was saying she got run over, but she got hit by the bar. >> Uh-huh. >> Okay. Did she hit him with her >> Is that him? Wait. Delvon. >> Delvon Thornton? >> Yes. D e l v o n Yeah, y'all had me over here thinking cuz I'm like, okay, yeah. But yeah. >> And you don't know where he stays around here? >> don't know where he stays. >> Okay. Well, if you get in contact with him, have him get in contact with us, cuz right now this video basically shows him battering her. >> Uh-huh. >> But I need to talk to him about whether this was an intentional thing, was it accidental. Like I have to have a statement from him. Cuz it's first part. Like I know what you witnessed and that's I mean >> So she won't get in no trouble for hitting him? >> No, she didn't hit him. I don't know if he tell her that I have to get >> to talk to him, yeah. >> I have to get the statement >> Yeah, like I said, I don't got he just got out of whatever. Not just got out, but been out. You know how you switch phones all the time, so >> Was he in jail or in prison? >> Both. >> Here though? >> Yep. Palatka, Marion County. I don't know the other one, but yes, here. >> Okay. >> The witness claimed Castle struck first, but the footage told a different story. It showed Thornton steering the go-cart toward her, the impact, and then approaching her while she was still on the ground and pushing her back down. The witness account and the video weren't matching up, and the deputy needed Thornton there to answer for it. But that was the problem. Recently out of incarceration, no stable address, no reliable number. Tracking him down wasn't going to be simple. >> That's what I came back to talk to you about. I'm in the process of trying to get him ID'd. I've ID'd the other lady. Um if I cannot find him tonight, he's going to have a warrant out for his arrest. >> Okay, I appreciate it. I'm scared now too, cuz first I don't think it started cuz he threatened to kill me or something. That's how the whole thing started. >> Was him yelling something? >> He was threatening me. I think he threatened He think he said I'm going to kill you. As my It's a little blurry now after I got hit. >> Right. >> But I think he threatened to kill me and that's why I ran in and got my camera. >> Yes. So what it looks like in the video is that maybe it hit the frame of the go-cart hits your arm. >> No, no, it hit my knee. I have a knee I have it here on my knee. Hold on a minute, cuz it also hit my knee. >> Okay, cuz it's about the the what I'm talking about is is the top frame cuz literally exactly how that lump is there, I think that hit you and I would assume that your legs were underneath you so it would have hit somewhere on there, too. >> it hit my left knee. I haven't looked at my knee actually now that you mention it, but it hurt my left knee is hurting me. >> Well, you hit the ground pretty hard, so and then he again battered you after that. So, regardless, I mean, it sounds like in the video, which I can't talk to him because even if he is still in that house, they're not going to give him up, but it doesn't matter. Did they have Did they give you his name? Yes, but I have not verified that. But I do know they gave me enough information for me to identify him. So, we're even if they didn't give me his exact name, I would have been able to find him. Yep. I found that and I recorded what that looks like now kind of the size frame reference of it. So, it's there. It's in the driveway. It's been in the driveway, but they're they said that he has left in a black SUV, which is possible. I couldn't say for sure that he didn't. Um there was no SUV here when anybody else got here, so my assumption would be >> notice any black SUV at all. >> Yeah. >> Even before, I didn't notice any black SUV there because I was right out on the back ordering. >> And there's several people that have gone. So, my thought is perhaps it's going to be a situation where he walked down the street around the corner, got picked up. It's not them. Those are other people. >> Those are They don't match the description, I should say. That's They're not the same. >> what he looks like. >> Um so, I mean, it's on video. There is no necessarily arguing about that. So, I just have to do some paperwork for you to leave with you. And um if you don't mind, I'm going to sit here for like just a minute >> Of course. >> and do some research and see if I can't nail down his government name for sure. >> I'm going to go in and try and take my pants off cuz I want to look at my knee. >> If you do have injuries there, >> Yeah. >> throw on a pair of shorts or something so that I can get a picture of that too before I go, okay? All right, thank you. >> Back with Castle, the direction of the case became clear. If Thornton couldn't be located, a warrant would follow. It wasn't just an argument, he had told her he was going to kill her. That was what sent her inside. That was why she came back out with the camera. Then, she corrected something else. The footage made it look like her arm took the hit. It didn't. It was her knee. >> Hey, this is Deputy Shabazz with the Sheriff's Office. >> Hi, Deputy. How are you? >> Good. I was actually just getting ready to call you. >> Oh. >> So, it looks to me, and I'm still doing research just to make sure, it looks to me like um Delvin was not arrested yet. However, the warrant is in process. So, um basically, it it takes sometimes 24 like two business days to get the warrant fully processed through the clerk's office. And today, I believe is a holiday. So, I think it may take an extra day, but that doesn't really change anything for us. If he is seen, he will still be arrested. So, um >> Have you guys gone to his house yet, do you know? >> So, yes. Over the past couple of days, we have gone to several different addresses. And um none of them have been successful as of yet. >> Okay. >> Um so, the people who live next door to you, which he said that that's the address he's living at now, I don't believe that to be true. I think he was lying, which is not surprising. Those people he might >> He might be living there. They have a bunch of people living there. But anyway. >> So the homeowner there did allow a search of the house. Um it was either yesterday or the day before. I think it was the day before yesterday. She allowed a search of the house and several deputies searched the home and didn't find any indication that that was factual that he is living there. But we have two or three other addresses that we're kind of keeping an eye on for him. >> Uh-huh. >> But I also think the information about the black SUV, I think that was bad information too to try to throw us off. >> About the what? >> The black SUV. I don't think that's factual either. I think that was also a lie. >> Like I told you, I was out there with the garden and stuff and I never saw any black SUV anywhere near that property. >> Exactly. >> You know, yeah, it's not the homeowner. She's renting there. >> Yes. Yes. Yes. >> What I would like to do because already it's going to cost me about $5,000 for the key. I've already been to the hospital and I I found a Florida law that the person that owns that go-kart if they allowed to that guy to drive when he was drunk or something they can be held liable. So you mentioned to me and that's what I wanted to question. You mentioned to me they told you it was his birthday that day. Have you confirmed if that was true? >> Mhm. >> Okay. So and then he'd been partying or whatever. So is that in the report you know because I would need that written that it was a birthday and he was partying or whatever. >> Well, I don't I don't know if that's in the original report. I do believe that it is. I am trying to pull it up right now but it's it's also in the process of being approved so it's like a tug-of-war of who can open up the file faster. And I also would like her name that lady's name. The rental person there. That's you know responsible cuz I think everybody else just lives with her. I think it's just her, you know, on the rental property. >> Hands up. Put your hands up. Hands up. I know. Don't reach. Just keep your hands up. Face the car. Put your hands behind your back. Man, look. You know I'm wanted by the woods. You know we're going to find you, right? Somebody call y'all and tell on y'all? You know you're wanted by the woods? >> Yeah, they told me yesterday. >> They told you yesterday? You watch the video? >> No. Sheriff was on there talking about how we got like 99% of the people on there. >> By the next day, the search had stretched false addresses, dead end leads, and an SUV investigators believed was deliberately planted to throw them off. Thornton didn't stay ahead for long, though. He was located and taken into custody on a felony charge of aggravated battery on a person 65 years of age or older, his 10th booking in Marion County.
