okay what tell tell me what happened she cut me who cut yous I don't know okay what did she cut you knife I'm pregnant she got in my stomach I'm afraid she cut you in your stomach I'm pregnant this terrified woman called 911 to report an attack and claimed she was pregnant but as soon as help arrived the officers made a shocking discovery the information that came from dispatch was that there was a female that was seven months pregnant and her stomach is actually flat this woman did not appear to be pregnant but she had indeed been mercilessly attacked this left the responders in a perplexing situation but nothing could prepare them for what came next on March 18th 2015 emergency dispatchers received a call from 1620 green place at Longmont Colorado on the other end of the call was a woman named Michelle Wilkins 26 she was crying in pain as she asked for help in a trembling voice 1620 green play 16201 green play I can't I can't understand the street green Place Green Place green like the color yeah as soon as the 911 dispatcher Beth keer answered the call she said that she was badly injured injured and was seeking any possible help when the dispatcher asked her about her injuries she claimed that she was pregnant and someone had tried to cut open her stomach she cut me who cut you downstairs I don't know okay hold on responded you hang on hold on please I'm downstairs okay who cut you this girl I what did she cut you with I'm nice I'm pregnant she C in my stomach I'm afraid she cut you in your stomach I'm pregant with her shaky voice it wasn't hard for the dispatcher to understand what this lady must be going through and she asked if there was anyone else in the house how far along are you 7 months okay are you alone in the house no no you stay with me don't go to sleep you stay with me you're downstairs in the basement and are you alone yeah okay as help was on its way it was the dispatcher's duty to get any possible information from the injured Michelle and she did just that she broke a glass did she stab you with the broken glass also yeah hurt her Michelle you need to think real hard and tell me who it is that did this tell me the person's name think real hard okay don't go to sleep stay with me tell me who it is know you don't know have you did did she break into the house does she live there is it took every ounce of her strength for Michelle to even speak however she somehow managed to give some details related to the incident I need you to take a towel and put it on your wound how many wounds do you have I no more than one oh yeah okay was anyone else in the house when this happened no just you and her were you having a fight the 911 dispatchers stayed with her until help arrived and as soon as they reached there they found her in the basement in a horrible state are they in the house yet she's downstairs yeah yeah they're here they're here okay I'll let you go there's a blood trail leading through the bedroom into the utility room they discovered Michelle lying on a bed in a pool of blood a small knife with a 3-in blade was lying nearby the officers found blood in the hallway as well and even her clothes had turned turned red because of it but there was something that made the respondents questioner she had claimed that she was pregnant but her appearance stated otherwise as soon as the respondents got to know about the real-time situation she grew suspicious of the caller Ben crew tells me that she wasn't pregnant thinking that I just had a caller who was lying about that the officers who had come into the house to help Michelle suspected she was portraying a false narrative to them so I look at her and I'm and I'm just thinking that she's probably the the suspect and the attacker not the victim he had lost the fight somehow but there is no denying that Michelle was injured badly even her intestines were out and she was bleeding profusely noticing her condition and the Situation's urgency paramedics swiftly took her to the hospital upon arrival she was unconscious and admitted to the emergency room having lost a significant amount of blood Michelle was indeed in critical condition but the question here was whether she was actually pregnant and had been attacked by someone or something more Sinister had happened here that was about to be unraveled while the officers remained skeptical about Michelle's Integrity they immediately launched an investigation to find out the truth as they started looking into Michelle's background they discovered that the home where she was found was not even hers this raised their first confusion about what she was doing there and whose house it was amid all the uncertainties the officers found that this house belonged to a man named David Ridley who had been living there with his 35-year-old wife Dell Lane and her two daughters the officers had found bills that belonged to Dell and from there they determined that she was the lady of the house but as the investigators found the answer to one question they had another in front of them if this house belonged to this couple then what was Michelle doing there in their basement of all places and where was the couple before long the investigators found dinell had also been admitted into the same hospital as Michelle the reason for dinell being there was much more atrocious than the police officers had imagined dinell had also been attacked viciously and was undergoing treatment the hospital staff described the scene of Dell's arrival as one of the most terrifying she'd entered the hospital with a baby and was drenched in blood Dell was screaming her lungs out in the hospital's hallway please save him I don't matter anymore just save him Hospital staff also mentioned that the lady of the house had come into the hospital earlier with a baby that she said she had prematurely officers learned that Dell 2 was pregnant and they couldn't even imagine how distraught this mother must have been at that moment however at the time and she was undergoing treatment investigators sought information from her husband David he revealed some Dreadful things about the gruesome sight he'd witnessed back at his home David stated that he'd received a call from his wife dinell at around 2:04 p.m. and she asked him if he could drop by their daughter's school on the way home to complete some paperwork to which she agreed after that he returned home at around 2:15 as he and his wife were supposed to go to the hospital for his wife's prenatal checkup appointment but something horrible was waiting for him Upon returning he found his wife in an awful state in the basement there was no sign of forced entry or breaking dell had blood all over her body which horrified David but this wasn't the only shock he was going to get DaNell told him that she just had a miscarriage and took her husband to the bathtub upstairs where she'd supposedly given birth to their unborn baby David immediately rushed his wife and baby to the hospital unaware that Michelle was lying in their basement severely injured but the investigators still had no idea about why Michelle had been in their home since David had no knowledge of her they turned their investigation toward other sources the investigators already had their suspicions regarding Michelle and they sought information from the person they assumed would know everything that happened on that day Dell Lane herself initially she said she didn't remember anything and and had no idea about any lady in her basement he is anyone with you at your house today no I've been by myself I've got a problem apartment when she was cut CU we' got all the start L at my house yes you know how that happened I don't there wasn't anybody there when I what's the deal with the girl I don't know they she that there was no girl at my house and she kept asking me if I was by myself today and I said I always by myself I was getting ready for my doctor's appointment and she's like well did you have any visitors today and I said no you sure you that lady maybe she was talking about I don't know really wish I did I'm just about as confused as you guys are that's that's I'm kind of figure it out however as she was again interviewed by the detectives and they tried to jog her memory she started revealing a chilling series of events and it just got worse Dell stated that she'd posted an advertisement on Craigslist for some free maternity clothes and Michelle had responded to it she invited Michelle over to have a look at the clothes and they talked for a whole hour Dell said Michelle seemed like a nice person and when she was about to leave Dell remembered she had some baby girl's clothes too she wanted to give these to Michelle as Dell was going to have a boy and they were of no use to her Dell directed Michelle towards the basement where the clothes were kept but as soon as Dell turned around to look through the closet Michelle did the unimaginable first d claimed that Michelle started attacking her in the basement dinell changed her statement and said that Michelle had attacked her with a knife kept on the counter but she'd somehow managed to fight back during their struggle dinell had cut her hand and had hit Michelle in self-defense knocking her unconscious but dinell had thought she was dead so she tried to save the baby she claimed that as she was going to become a mother herself she just couldn't let the baby die with its mother she kept trying to hit me and I asked her I was like what are you doing I'm like stop you know I was grasping at her and she was grasping at me and I had her down and I'm like just stop what happened next I think I her after she stopped moving I got scared I thought I killed her and I I I didn't want the baby to die too what happened I'm not this kind of person I don't I don't do stuff like this like I didn't know what to do what happened to the baby when she stopped moving I I started thinking I didn't want the baby to die too so I got the knife that she had that I trying to get the baby out did you get the baby out okay is that the baby that's in the room baby okay not M she said she'd tried to save the baby by cutting open Michelle's abdomen but this information was immediately suspicious to the police officers Dell had the option to call an ambulance but instead she chose to cut Michelle open but something else that stood out to the investigators was how dinell had kept changing her statements initially she said that she didn't know about the lady being in her basement and claimed that the fetus was her own baby is there a probability that the DNA the baby won't match you no she's ly 100% however as soon as she got to know that Michelle was alive and had been brought to the same hospital she changed her statement she then claimed that Michelle had indeed come to her home and for some reason she started attacking herself Danelle then claimed that Michelle had attacked her and she fought back only to defend herself all of this was confusing enough for the officers but they were about to receive one more mind numbing piece of information in a stunning Revelation the Doctor Who was treating Dell and Michelle disclosed that Dell was not pregnant at all and she'd never been in the first place Dr Leslie Armstrong stated that when dinell came to the hospital she'd consistently avoided undergoing treatment instead she insisted on treating the fetus but as soon as they started Dell's treatment they realized that she'd never been pregnant this puzzled the investigators more as to why anyone would lie about their pregnancy especially with her husband at the hospital crying inconsolably over his child's death how had he not figured out that his wife was never pregnant all of this didn't make any sense to the detectives until they looked into dinell Lan's past Dell's pregnancy seemed to be totally normal and there appeared to be nothing out of the ordinary in it this was Dell's second marriage and she already had two teenage daughters from her first husband while David had a daughter of his own when they learned they were expecting a baby boy their Joy was boundless their family and friends had thrown a baby shower for dinell and David where they revealed that they decided to name their baby James Dell posted pictures of her ultrasound and her baby bump every now and then on social media everyone was on Cloud9 until one of David's friends noticed something unusual she'd posted her concerns on social media and claimed that there was something odd in her friend's wife's pregnancy she even went to the extent of claiming that his wife was actually not pregnant on the day before the attack she'd even claimed that his wife could possibly harm someone when the investigators found the reasons for her speculations they started to question their own minds it turned out dinell had shown some outof thee ordinary signs for a pregnant woman Dell confirmed her pregnancy in April 2014 but her husband never got the chance to visit the doctor with her Dell always used to visit the doctor on her own whenever both of them visited the hospital they'd spend hours in the waiting rooms but would end up not meeting the doctor his wife would always say that she wasn't feeling well or something had come up and they'd end up leaving the hospital this went on for months and her husband never received any proof of the pregnancy other than what Dell told him besides all of this there was one peculiar thing that didn't seem right in any aspect Dell had been pregnant for almost a year now she' confirmed her pregnancy in April 2014 and even by March 2015 she'd not given birth to any baby she kept extending her due date first it had been November 2014 then December and then it became March 2015 but there was no sign of a baby in addition to this whenever a family member or friend asked her about the pregnancy Dell became aggressive and never gave them a proper reply all of these things didn't fit and indicated only one thing dinell had been lying about her pregnancy for over a year the truth however was far more disturbing than anyone could have [Music] imagined to uncover the full story detectives began to delve into the life of Dell and her husband David as soon as they got to know the reality of their seemingly loving relationship they were surprised in reality Dell and David were not on good terms with each other as they always portrayed their relationship was falling apart as it was Dell's second marriage detectives needed to investigate her first marriage as well to find answers about her soon it was discovered that dinell was previously married to a man named Jason Cruz and they'd been together for 12 years before parting ways in November 2007 both of them were blessed with three children two girls and one boy Michael Alexander Cruz also known as Little ma to his family was their youngest child born in 2000 he drowned at the very young age of 19 months while playing in his neighbor's Pond the inant appeared to have been a tragic accident and there were no signs of Foul Play The Death of her youngest child caused Dell immense trauma after the loss of their beloved Son dinell and James decided to undergo a hysterectomy as they didn't want any more children however this tragedy was not the only traumatizing thing for Dell it turned out that her husband hband also used to abuse her and he was charged with third deegree domestic violence after he banged Dell's head into a car still these charges were dropped after Dell decided not to move further with them after dinell and her first husband's separation their interactions were minimal afterwards Dell responded to an advertisement on Craigslist in 2010 a man named Robert Walsh was looking for a roommate and as soon as dinell showed interest in it he let her move into the house he thought that it was good to live with dinell and her two daughters as he also had one daughter of his own Dell seemed to be a softspoken and kind lady between 2010 and 2012 dinell held a nursing Aid license and worked in this field however soon Robert learned that she was not always the person she portrayed herself to be one day dinell told Robert that she'd been suspended from her job but he soon discovered that this was a plain lie and in reality she she'd been fired from her job soon things took a drastic change when dinell was arrested and taken into custody for an unresolved traffic violation after she'd failed to appear against the warrant for the same violation later on Robert had to bail her out but shortly after both of them parted ways as roommates as life moved forward she met David got married to him and claimed to be carrying his child however with all the speculation building up against Dell David had had an enough he finally asked Dell to prove her pregnancy otherwise she and her daughters would have to move out of his house they both agreed to this and they were supposed to go to the hospital for Dell's checkup on the very same day as the incident took place things were beginning to add up by this time Michelle had also woken up and was ready to make some shocking revelations that were going to provide all the answers when they wheeled me into the operating room pain was starting to come online wrong and this person standing over me put a gas mask over my face and then everything faded out again Michelle stated that she and her boyfriend Dan Asik had learned about her pregnancy 7 months prior to the incident she was pregnant with a daughter and had decided to name her Aurora Michelle was looking for maternity clothes and that's how she landed on the advertisement posted by Dell on Craigslist I was using Craigslist quite a bit when I was pregnant I found a lot of things for Aurora for the most part I felt pretty set I was just in the process of trying to find a crib and in looking for that on the free section there was an advertisement for maternity clothes Dell had lured her in with the advertisement claiming that she was willing to give away maternity clothes for free Michelle reached Dell's home around 11:51 a.m. and was welcomed by a seemingly kind I know she was holding her stomach like she was pregnant as we went upstairs and into her bedroom and she Gately started pulling out all the clothes that she was talking about asked me which ones I wanted put them in a bag for me after collecting everything needed Michelle was about to leave but dinell kept talking to her and Michelle had sensed some loneliness in her she seemed kind of lonely she even talked about that she had two teenage daughters and they didn't want to H out with their mom and her partner was at work all the time both of them ended up talking for almost an hour and as soon as Michelle was about to leave Dell played another card from her deck and I remember as I reached out to and had my hand on the door knob and she said oh you know I might have one more thing downstairs do you want to come take a look at that and even though I had an intuitive sense that I you have everything you need it's time to go there was another part of me thate that and said she's lonely just be polite and so she closed the door in front of me Michelle stayed there with dinel because she was empathetic only to later discover that Dell had something sinister planned for her as soon as they reached the basement Dell pretended to search for something Michelle tried to leave but Dell decided to do the unim imagable she was looking really frantically in one of the rooms and I just had this feeling it's just time to go and so I went to walk out and so she would meet the stairs and she struck me from behind and my first thought was did I have a spider on me and she said yeah I think I got it but then she started almost like wabbling at my back as soon as Michelle Heard what dinell said she said she was shocked and just wanted to leave from there however dinell showed her true colors and attacked the pregnant Michelle violently she's grabbing me she's me and so we're wrestling and she shoves me backwards into a bedroom she started trying to choke me but I was struggling trying to peel her hands off of my neck and so she ends up taking the lava lamp and holding it over me like she was about to and I just told her I don't know why you're doing this I love you and she just looked me directly in the eyes and she said if you love me you'll let me do this and she broke the lava lamp over my head and that took the broken end and stabbed me in the neck with it if you love me you'll let me do this seemed like a statement from a psycho themselves it was then Michelle felt unconscious and thought she was going to die last thought before I lost Consciousness was I can't believe this is how it ends I have so many angels and spirits on my side how is this how I die and everything faded to Black after regaining Consciousness Michelle immediately called for help and was taken to the hospital Michelle described how she fought for her and her daughter's life however tragically her daughter Aurora did not make it I remember being at the hospital and before they even took out all of the tubes I asked a question with my eyes of what happened to Aurora I found out that she didn't make it I went into a full-blown panic and really going into some of the responses of what happens to your body after trauma Michelle held and dressed her daughter Aurora for the first and last time In Her Arms 2 days after the incident Michelle sang for her daughter before she finally said goodbye to her I did all the things that you know a mom would want to do I read to her I dressed her but not being able to witness her first breath or her first smile or even seeing what her eyes looked like was extremely difficult during Michelle's recovery even the night 911 dispatcher Beth keer visited Michelle something she'd never done before that day I left shift went to the hospital and went to the ICU now I have never done this before in my life I've never seen anyone that I've had contact with over 911 and I couldn't believe that she um was alive and I told her who I was and that it was her that's uh um saved herself that it was her that if she wouldn't have remembered that address if she wouldn't have woken up doctors determined that Michelle's injuries were not something that a random person could cause the cuts indicated the work of a professional or specialist it took 2 months for Michelle to recover from her physical injuries but her emotional recovery had a long way to go after Michelle's statement it was crystal clear that Dell was at fault but what was more unsettling was that a mother of two committed this vile act especially to another soon Tobe mother now all the detectives needed to uncover was the reason behind it it was revealed that because of her troubled relationship with her husband dinell had first tried to save her marriage by lying about being pregnant however as her husband grew suspicious of her she tried to cover up her lie about her pregnancy with this heinous act she wanted to pretend Michelle's baby was her her and get away with it she attacked Michelle and abducted her baby in an attempt to show it to her husband that's why she initially claimed she didn't know anything about Michelle and then changed her statement when Michelle was lying unconscious in the basement Dell had cleaned up everything she could in the hour before her husband reached home then she dumped her blood soaked clothes in a bag dinel also had a nursing license which explains the precise cuts on Michelle's abdomen she thought that Michelle had died when she fell unconscious and that she could get away with her horrific act however little did Dell know that Michelle was going to survive to reveal her despicable behavior and as soon as she got to know about Michelle's survival she finally broke down did you get the baby out okay is that the baby that's in the baby not mine finally on the same night of the incident on March 18th 2015 Dell was arrested after all the truth came to light Dell's trial did not begin until February 17th 2016 and she pleaded not guilty to all charges in the Boulder Colorado Court however the evidence collected and testimonies against her stated otherwise Michelle's testimony proved to be the most crucial for the case for obvious reasons she explained about the harrowing incident she had experienced back then and how dinell was responsible for it although the defense argued that Dell had not pre-planned the attack and it was an impulsive act it was determined that she was aware of what she was doing prosecutors presented all the evidence from the crime scene in court throughout the trial Dell sat quietly as Michelle recounted the events leading up to the attack and her struggle to survive she came at me and I I just kind of reacted and then we ended up in my daughter's room and she just kept like she kept trying to hit me and I asked her I was like what are you doing I'm like stop Dell was only seen crying when her initial statement was played out in court where she falsely accused Michelle on February 19th 2016 the jury convicted Dell of first-degree attempted murder unlawful termination of pregnancy and four counts of felony assault she was sentenced to 48 years on the attempted Mur murder charge 32 years on the unlawful termination of a pregnancy charge 10 years each for two first-degree assault convictions and 5 years for one of the second degree assault convictions all those sentences except the 5-year second degree assault count were ordered to be served consecutively Dell was sentenced to 100 years in prison on April 29th 2016 M Lane planned this attack and left Miss Wilkins to bleed out and die M Lane is to be sentenced to a sentence the court finds having considered the mitigating circumstances and the aggravating circumstances that totals 100 years in the department of corrections to be followed by the mandatory periods of parole the prosecutors didn't file any murder charges against Dell as they had no solid evidence that the baby had lived outside the womb on her own and there was no sign of live birth because of this Dell did not get any sentence for the loss of the child instead the case was characterized as an instance of feal demise while giving her impact statement Michelle had Aurora's picture with her and chose to directly address Dell there were atrocities committed against me and my daughter that sent a ripple out a ripple of pain out to so many others and they must be addressed those committed against Aurora's father and all of her grandparents against law enfor enforcement and First Responders who cannot unsee the trauma that you created and against your partner and daughters who surely have guilt shame and Trauma of their own to wrestle with for the rest of their lives because of you I did not learn until the trial just how many opportunities you had to do the right thing and then chose not to you knowingly left me to die multiple times the only tears that you shed during the trial were those of self-pity to the sound of your own voice as your lies were slowly revealed and yet even now you cannot con clean about what actually occurred you embrace your narcissistic fantasy to fulfill the lie you created and it was more important than my right to live and Aurora's right to live this is a picture of her Dell tried to appeal her conviction in July 2020 but it was upheld by the Colorado court of appeals rejecting her arguments and confirming the verdict with Dell Behind Bars Michelle started a fresh in her life and said she's happy that Dell would not be able to hurt anyone anymore there was relief for me to know that she was going to go somewhere where she wouldn't be able to hurt other people Michelle had already forgiven Dell and decided to move on in her life so no I do not hate Dell but I am angry for all of the pain she has caused the deceit and for her selfishness and this element is hardly fathomable for me she also didn't miss the chance to thank the people who gave her a new life by Saving her she visited the 911 dispatcher in the first responder with cookies to thank them and they were delighted to see her healthy and smiling once again Michelle has found peace and pottery and she says this has helped a lot in healing she's become a therapist treating people who f mental issues by God's grace Michelle remains hopeful of conceiving again in the future longing deeply to welcome another child yet she continues to mourn the loss of her beloved baby Aurora May the soul of little Aurora rest in peace forever cherished in everyone's heart so what do you think about this case How could a mother cause
