On May 13th, 2025, a man attempting to breach a secured jet bridge at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport triggered a security response that ended in physical detention, criminal charges, and a hospital transport. The subject abandoned the jet bridge without explanation, then returned twice, charging a gate agent, throwing himself to the ground, and forcing open both aircraft doors. The alarms brought law enforcement to the gate. What was he doing? He tried to breach the jetway like twice. Which one is he? Is it the tall guy? I don't know. He has got it. What's going on? What happened? I'm trying to catch my flight. So, he was supposed to fly that? What time is your flight? What time is the flight? What time? I don't know. Were you drinking or are you taking something? Why you was acting like that? Everybody said you was jumping and you was acting up. Huh? He said he was Hey, what what happened to this What What's going on with him? So, he boarded the flight. So, he scanned and he walked down the jet bridge. After he left the jet bridge, he was standing around and walked off. So, I'm trying to get his attention like what's it what's going on. He just He didn't nothing. But, I'm tagging back to the over the place. She's up here. He walked straight past her. So, she's trying to get his attention like sir, like what's going on. He doesn't answer. So, she didn't think What about what happened? At the front. So, I don't know what to do. I just So, the flight left already? Yeah, the flight already gone. So, he said you didn't say anything. In the jet bridge, he just turned around and walked off. So, I'm trying to get his attention like yo, what's going on. He doesn't answer anybody and just walks off. So, And she was up front. I said what to tell him that what is it what is going on. All right, what's going on? When he walked off the jet bridge, they were trying to get his name. He wasn't replying. What are you doing? 31 F. He wasn't replying. And then when he got to the top, kind of had to like go in front of him like sir, what's your name? What's your name? And he was like vital. I don't know if that like it's He said it in Spanish. And then then he Then I got his seat number. He said 13. And I'm like, okay. I looked it up. I saw vital. It was 31 F. He was gone already. And then he comes back when he comes back. Is that us? And then he was trying to get on the aircraft. He tried to run me over. And he went like this. He was ready. And I'm like, that's the day. And he goes and backs down. And he left again. He threw himself on the ground, threw his jacket off. And then he came back again. He tried to open the doors. Both doors. He couldn't open the doors. Yeah, because I'm not going to work that because because if you do come back again and you start acting up like that, you're going to end up in jail. I understand. I'm telling that warning. Officers approached calmly, asked about alcohol and medication, and attempted to walk him out without incident. When additional information came in, a formal detention was initiated. Recognizing signs of mental health crisis, disorientation, agitation, and unresponsiveness, officers elected to transport him to a hospital under Florida's Baker Act rather than to jail. All right. Get in there. When the subject resisted, officers used a takedown, ground control, and leg shackles. No strikes were deployed. Under Graham versus Connor, the force was proportional to his active resistance in a public terminal. He was ultimately charged with disorderly conduct and resisting an officer without violence. Officers receive a B- right call on diversion proportional force, but communication during restraint was dismissive, and the legal basis for detention was never clearly stated on camera. The subject receives a C+. His gate behavior invited the response, and physical resistance added charges that compliance would have avoided. The clearest lesson here, mental health crisis and criminal behavior can look identical in the field. The officers who recognized the difference and chose a hospital over a cell made a decision that served everyone better, including themselves. Crisis intervention training exists for exactly this reason, and this footage is a case study in why it matters. If this analysis gave you something to think about, the next video will give you more.
