What began as a traffic stop for improper tags quickly escalated into a deadly police pursuit involving Arkansas State Police. Authorities say officers first attempted to pull over a pickup truck driven by 36-year-old Wael Murphy of Memphis. But instead of stopping, Murphy suddenly sped away from police. Investigators later learned the truck had just recently been purchased, but despite the minor nature of the stop, the driver chose to flee at high speeds. Moments later, Trooper Victor Garcia executed a tactical vehicle intervention, sending the pickup crashing into a guardrail. He was later transported to a trauma center in Memphis, where authorities say he died from his injuries. His fiance, who was also inside the vehicle during the crash, survived with non-life-threatening injuries.
