If I call out right, when you bring your right arm up, touch the tip of your right finger, index finger to the tip of your nose, and then bring it immediately back down. Do you understand all that? >> Yes. >> Okay. Uh once you touch your nose, immediately return your arm back to your side. Um tilt your head back and close your eyes. You ready? Any questions? So, turn back left. Bring your finger back down. You're going to automatically bring your finger back down. I don't have to tell you. Close your eyes. Click either. Close your eyes. >> Switch. >> Close your eyes. Till we hear back. >> I'm sorry. Right, left, right, right, left. Okay, relax. And you're saying that the last one you had was at 6 p.m. >> Swear to God. >> And it was a shot. >> Swear to God. My boss is there. He watched me drink whole time until I left. >> Okay. >> Yes. He watched me shotgun at high noon. That's all I had. >> Shotgun at high noon at 6:00. Okay. >> Yes. All right. I don't even know what time it is. I just know it was 12. They asked me to pick him up. I don't want you to be surprised when you don't see it anymore. >> No, you're good. Hey y'all. >> What happens there? Like oil changes or [ __ ] to like cars? >> Maybe. >> I'm just being >> in Illinois. A 22year-old woman committed a traffic violation and drove while intoxicated. This woman repeatedly flirted and joked around with the police officer in an attempt to downplay the seriousness of the situation. She failed the field sobriety test, even accidentally slipped out of her handcuffs, and became worried about the strange pills found in her car. Officer Bland approached the vehicle using a standard position, parking offset to create a safety zone, and standing at the B-pillar to observe the cabin without falling into a blind spot. From the very first second, the contrast was clear. While the officer remained professional and direct about the stop sign violation, the subject responded with a playful attitude, asking about filming a tick- tock video. Now, pay attention here. The officer's decision to immediately ask the subject to step out of the vehicle was a tactical move to separate the suspect from her fortress, which is the car, and any potential weapons inside. What do you think about her innocent reaction when she stepped out? That is often the first sign of hidden non-compliance. This is a textbook example of using flirtation as a distraction. She repeatedly made comments like, "You can hold my hand." Called the officer her bestie, and even offered to hand over money from her bra. The goal was very clear, to soften the officer up and get out of the DUI. One major safety failure was the fact that the subject was able to slip out of her handcuffs. This shows that for a moment, her fake friendliness may have caused the handcuffs to be applied too loosely, creating a serious risk of attack or escape. In our field, we call this the kindness trap. Officer Bland correctly applied Pennsylvania versus Mims when he ordered the subject out of the vehicle for safety reasons. The field sobriety test provided the basis for established probable cause for the arrest. What is especially notable is the officer's narration technique. He repeatedly stated the suspect's mistakes such as slipping out of the handcuffs or admitting to alcohol consumption directly in front of the camera. This is a way to strengthen the evidence record so it becomes difficult to challenge in court. Legal outcome. The subject was charged with four offenses. Driving under the influence of alcohol, having a breath alcohol concentration over 0.08 with a measured result of 0.118, possessing an open container of alcohol in the vehicle, and failing to obey a stop sign. So, what do you think? If she had acted professionally, stopped putting on a show, and been honest from the beginning, would the outcome have been less severe? Or was it her overconfidence in her flirting skills that earned her all four tickets and a pair of handcuffs? Leave your thoughts below. Now, let's move on to the next case. >> The street. >> I have to be really bad. >> Okay. All right. Well, you're going to have to hang out. Unfortunately, there's no places to be right now. >> Where is across the street? >> Um, Golf Gate, Texas. Golf Gate. >> Tipsy Turvy. >> Tipsy Turby. Is that a bar? Excuse me. That's >> I don't want to pee inside of my bed. You're not going to pee right now. >> This girl is completely wasted. She even wants to pee right in front of a church. Let's see how the police handle this flirty drunk girl. >> I don't want to pee in front of anybody. Please. I don't want to pee in front of everybody. >> You're not going to be able to pee right now. But you were driving. >> I was not. >> I was not. >> Sophia, you were driving. You had the car. >> Do you remember that you had the car in drive and then I had to put it in park for you? >> I was not. >> No, I do not. >> Well, how did your car get here then? >> My friend, >> my friend drove it over here for me. Is there anybody that can come pick up your car? >> I'm trying to see if anybody anybody can pick it up. All right, >> you. >> I cannot I don't want your car to get towed. I want I don't want you to have to pay for that. Is there anybody that can come pick up your car for you? >> You. >> I cannot. >> Sophia, it's pointless money that you'll have to spend to get your car out. Can you call somebody that can come pick it up that won't be extremely far away? >> You know what? I should be hanging out with birdies. I should not be hanging out with phone. >> Is there somebody in your phone that we can call to come pick up your phone? >> Yeah, his name is Connor Jazelle. Is that one of the bad guys that you think you're hanging out with? >> All right. >> Ask her if she wants anything else out of there. Like >> Sophia, >> that was me. >> What was you? >> He just asked me. Oh, I for one. I don't know. >> So, to deal with the car, Kayla knows one of our officers. We're going to give the keys to that officer. We're gonna move your car over to the side a little bit and then Kayla's gonna come grab the keys. Are you okay with that? >> Yes. >> Okay. 100%. No questions asked. You're okay with that? >> Okay. Is there anything out of the car that you want? >> No. >> Is your wallet in the car? >> I just have to pay. >> Is your wallet in the car so that we can grab your like ID and whatnot? >> It's fine. >> Okay. We're going to do the vehicle release, motor vehicle release form. She said it's okay, but we'll probably just like park it right there. >> Yeah, I'll stay with it. >> And then I mean, you don't if it's locked, she's fine with her coming to pick it up later and leave it there. So, I just got to give these to Kayla. >> Hey, Sophia, can we park the Jeep there and then Kayla can come pick it up later? >> If I can, >> you'll be able to the jail. Yes. Is that okay, >> please? >> Okay, we'll get on the way. >> I can just >> Now, let's get back to the breakdown. Right from the start, the officers followed standard traffic stop procedure after spotting the suspect swerving. Look closely. The officer approached and positioned himself near the B-pillar. This is a survival position because it allows the officer to keep eyes on the suspect's hands while staying clear of the door if the driver suddenly hits the gas. And the contrast here is honestly ridiculous. On one side, you have officers [music] conducting a criminal DUI investigation. On the other side, you have Ross asking for a pinky swear and insisting she only drank Celsius energy drinks. Pay attention to this. When a suspect tries to turn a serious investigation into a childish joke, that is the first sign that their judgment is impaired. Ross could not even shift the car into park by herself. The officer had to do it for her. She was also disoriented, claiming she was in Gulf Gate when in reality she was several miles away. Her glassy eyes and poor motor skills were living proof of intoxication. Ross fully tried to use the pretty privilege by calling the officer babe, daddy, and even suggesting they make out, all in an attempt to distract him from the field sobriety test. This is a classic avoidance tactic. If I'm charming enough, maybe they'll forget what I did wrong. The officer maintained a safe distance and did not allow Ross to get too close when she deliberately tried to flirt and invade his space. Controlling the suspect's phone early on was also necessary. It prevents them from calling relatives to create pressure or using the device as a hard object to attack with. What do you think? Could compliments like, "You look good in that uniform," really shake an officer who knows his body cam is recording everything? Legally speaking, every action the officer took had a solid foundation. Pennsylvania versus Mims, an officer has the authority to order Ross out of the vehicle during a lawful traffic stop when there is reasonable concern. The officer also did an excellent job narrating his actions directly for the body cam. I had to help her put the car in park and I can smell alcohol on her. This helped strengthen the evidence in court, turning the officer's real-time observations into documented case details. The result, even though Ross tried to deny that she had been driving, the officers personally saw her behind the wheel, and that is evidence she cannot talk her way out of. Conclusion: Sophia Ross was arrested for driving under the influence. Good looks might get you a nice table at a restaurant, but they won't help you beat a breathalyzer. A little respect for the law from the beginning might have helped her keep some of her dignity instead of leaving behind a comedy performance on a public police record. Now, if you were the officer on scene, what would you do when a suspect offers to do anything to get out of trouble? Drop your thoughts below.
