On the night of September 11th, 2022 in Jackson Township, Ohio, police were dispatched to a serious crash involving two vehicles severely deformed after a head-on collision. And upon arrival at the scene, they discovered a man unresponsive inside his vehicle, while the other vehicle was positioned into the opposite lane, indicating signs of a devastating crash. At that time, unconscious, unresponsive, and trapped inside, [music] while beside him, his wife, seated in the passenger seat, had managed to escape and was injured, but conscious along with their dog, Cookie. Notably, [music] Jon was the father of a content creator on YouTube and Tik Tok, where the family frequently appeared in videos about food and daily life. Their family was deeply [music] loved and this would likely be a major loss not only to the family but also to the online community. >> Whatever. A critical detail indicating that the collision may have occurred when one vehicle was traveling in the wrong lane. While the survivors account also confirmed that the opposing vehicle drove directly toward them before the impact. At this point, an officer approached the individual responsible. >> It It's me, Mom. Mom, it's me. >> It's me, Mom. It's me. Do you have an ID? >> Yes. Okay. Thank you. >> Yes. >> Okay. He's Do you want to get her? >> Where am I going? What? Yeah, we're going to go. Just step back here. >> Hi, sir. Come on. Police identified the driver as Jacob Lee Miter, who stated that the other vehicle had hit him. However, observation of the scene showed that Jacob's vehicle was in the opposite lane, while the victim's vehicle was positioned fully to the right, creating a clear contradiction between the initial statement and the actual positions of the vehicles after the [music] collision. >> Not car hit me. >> Car hit you. >> Okay. Which way? Where are you headed? I swear >> towards Arlington. Okay. Make it right at the light and then my house is right there at at Bernal Farms. >> Okay. >> All right. Okay. >> All right. >> Can you see my pen? All right. >> Yep. >> Okay. All right. What I want you to do, I want you to follow my pen with your eyes. Yours eyes only. Do not move your head. Okay. Police noticed that Jacob showed signs of a strong odor of alcohol and slow reactions and then conducted field sobriety tests during which the subject could [music] not track an object with his eyes without moving his head, deviated from a straight line, and could not maintain balance while standing on one leg. Now, whichever foot um you like or we'll take your right foot first. Okay. What we're going to do is a walk and turn. All right. >> All right. >> Can you hear me? Okay. >> Yes. >> Okay. You're going to take nine heel to toe steps in a straight line on this yellow line. >> All right? All steps must be heel to toe. Do not stop once I once you begin. I'm going to demonstrate this for you. Okay. Same thing. I You want me to instruct you again on this? Six steps up. Nope. Here. Go. I'm going to instruct you again. Your Nope. Your right foot. After completing [music] the test and documenting all signs of impairment, police handcuffed and arrested Jacob at the scene on suspicion of operating a vehicle under the influence while the subject still could [music] not provide a reasonable explanation for his vehicle being in the opposite lanes. >> All right, I'm going to make sure these are spaced okay and then I'm going to >> You double lock them. Okay. Justin, is that right? >> Jake. >> Jake. Jake. Sorry. And your last name? >> Mutter. Mutter. >> Jake, are you having any medical issues right now? I understand your face hurts. All right. I'm not going to be combat. >> Huh? >> I said I'm not going to be con combat. >> Oh, I don't think you will. You've been cooperating with me, man. I appreciate that. Have a seat over there for me. >> After being arrested, Jacob was transported [music] for necessary testing. And prior to collecting samples, officers spoke with him during the process to stabilize the situation. And an officer informed him that if he refused [music] testing, he would face immediate consequences. All that. Was it a rough game? >> Good game. >> It was decent. Towards the end, I thought they were going to lose. >> Yeah. Right. >> If they would have hit the field goal, we would all be true. >> Yeah. How' Baker play >> in the beginning? All right. Decent. Then again, if you wanted to show off. >> All right. So, bear with me. Okay. What I'm going to do is I'm going to read this to you. Okay. All right. >> Do you understand that? Correct. Okay. Um, he's just using the restroom right now. Um, but he did he asked me to answer the phone and tell you that he's okay. Um, he's got some bumps and bruises that he's got in a little accident. Um, but he is okay and his dad's going to be picking him. >> As for the victim, John did not survive after being transported for emergency treatment due to severe injuries, while his wife survived and their dog Cookie later died from injuries. And the family later spoke [music] out about the incident just days after the crash. Meanwhile, Jacob's record showed multiple prior traffic [music] violations, including speeding, running red lights, driving under suspension, and dangerous passing in [music] the opposite lane. Following the incident on November 21st, 2022, more than a month after the crash, a warrant was issued for Jacob after test results were obtained and he was arrested the following day.
