In Illinois, threatening a public official is a class three felony for a first offense and a class two felony for a second or subsequent offense. The offense occurs when someone knowingly delivers or conveys a threat to take the life or to inflict great bodily harm on a public official or a member of their immediate family and the threat is related to the officials public duties. For example, a police officer who is actively conducting an investigation. So assuming that it is his first time, he is facing between 2 to 10 years in prison if found guilty. Whatever. Go ahead.
