Welcome back, guys. Today, we're in Palm Coast, Florida with Deputy Patients, because that is genuinely the only word for what we're about to witness, where an 18-year-old, let's call her the bracelet bandit, has just been caught shoplifting $12.99 worth of jewelry from Target, not $500 in electronics, not a trolley full of groceries, a bracelet set, and as it turns out, this isn't exactly her first time at this particular rodeo. Right, let's get into it. Thank you. >> Um, Miss Nina here did not have to pay for this bracelet set here. >> Mhm. >> 12.99. >> Um, she does have her ID on her, but >> Okay. >> Um, yeah, she has stolen from here before. So, today we caught it and we're going to prosecute today. >> Okay. >> A little stress. >> Is she an adult? >> Yeah, she's 18. >> You got your license on you? >> Appreciate it. Echo 226 teletype. Mrs. Janine, I'm going to read you your rights. Okay. You have the right to remain silent and anything you say may be uses evidence against you. You have the right to talk to an attorney and have him or her with you now or at any time during questioning. You can't afford an attorney. One will be appointed to represent you. But anytime you wish to stop talking or have an attorney present, all question will be stopped at your request. You understand these rights? >> Echo 226 flag. Miranda, right? Okay. With that being said, obviously they called us. Um, they say this is not your first time shoplifting. >> Yeah. >> This is your first time? >> Guess not. >> I'm I'm asking you like just be straight up. Like, have you shoplifted from this Target before? >> No. >> No. >> Oh, no. said with absolute conviction to a police officer in a target that has, as we are about to find out, an extremely comprehensive camera system. I always find this part fascinating. The gap between what someone says and what the CCTV is currently pulling up in the back office. Confidence is a choice, I suppose. >> So, you live in Sanford? >> What were you doing in Palm Coast? >> Um, I have family here. >> Okay. So, you came to visit your family? >> My sister. Where does your sister live? >> An Orman. >> An Orman. >> It's like >> You used to live on St. Andrew's Court and that's where you don't live anymore? >> Yes, ma'am. >> Okay. Um, >> did you buy anything else while you were here? >> Yeah, Pop-Tarts. >> Just Pop-Tarts. >> Pop-Tarts and this set. >> Have you ever been arrested before? >> No. >> Who do you live with? Um, my roommates. >> Where are your parents? Were they in the picture? Can you talk to your parents at all? >> Yeah, but they're in Georgia. >> Okay. >> No, she's 18. >> 2006. >> You're 18, right? >> 3206. >> Are you 18? >> Yes. Yeah. >> Only reason I'm asking that is because there's a difference in how we go about if you're juvenile. I would be trying to get your parents permission first to talk to you. That's why we asked about your age. >> So, you've never shoplifted here before? >> Why would they be telling you something different? >> Do you come to this Target frequently? >> No. You're also going to be trespassed from here. So, you can't come back to this target. >> If you come back to this target, obviously you're going to be placed under arrest. Okay. >> You drive a vehicle. >> You guys said she's been here before. >> Yeah, that's what we're pulling up right now. >> Okay. And are you guys trying to press charges for all the situations you shot with the one for today? Okay. Gotcha. I know it's annoying after for this low dollar one incident, but listen, but she's done it a couple times. >> Yeah, that's that's our whole thing. Got to protect our reputation a little bit. >> No, I got you. >> She was here. She's been here multiple times. >> Yeah. >> And she stays there because my parents move to Georgia. >> Oh, wow. So, but she goes to school in Daytona. So, she's >> just Okay. >> So, I want you to realize that this Target has cameras everywhere. There's cameras and selfch checkouts. >> And here is deputy patients planting a seed very quietly, very deliberately. Cameras everywhere. Selfch checkouts everywhere. He's not accusing. He's just describing the infrastructure. This is the moment where the honest thing to do would be to reconsider the previous answer. We'll see how long that takes. I know I've already asked you and you stated that you've never shoplifted from here before, but I want you to just take a second, think about it, and be completely honest with me cuz that's going to dictate how this situation is going to go based on you being honest with me or not. So, with that being said, have you shoplifted from this target in the past? >> No. >> Okay. >> 4 minutes and 12 seconds. That's how long it took. And to be fair, she got there. Under gentle, patient camera-based persuasion, she got there. Under Florida law, petite theft for items under $100 is a secondderee misdemeanor, which means a prior record of it does start to stack. But we'll come to that. >> Why didn't you just tell me that originally? You don't know. Cuz they're pulling up. I guess >> I get it, but you can't you can't be doing this. You know what I'm saying? You're 18 years old. Your life just started. Do you really want whenever you get stopped by a cop that we pull up your wrap sheet and it's all petty theft sharp on shopliftings? >> When they try to go look for a job and they run a criminal history check. >> Oh, M has eight misdemeanors for shoplifting. After two or three times, it starts to get enhanced and it does become felonies. >> Deputy patients now going full life coach. And look, he's not wrong. The concern about a shoplifting record following someone into job applications and background checks is entirely real. Florida employers can legally see misdemeanor convictions and retail theft specifically is a red flag for anyone in a cash handling role. He didn't have to say any of this. He chose to. That's the detail I always notice. >> See what I'm saying? >> How many times would you say if you could guess how many times you've shoplifted from here? >> That's it. You got to be honest with me right now. >> This once or twice? >> What did you take in the past? >> I don't remember. >> When do you think the last time um was it? Or when was the last time you were here at this Target? >> I haven't been here a while. >> What is a while to you? >> Um well, I haven't been definitely haven't been here since like at the January. So it probably be like after like before Christmas >> I have to guess my friend to take my sister. >> Um if they want to just hand you >> where they at. >> Okay. because I was >> other three sisters like 10 years. >> So they were in here too with you? >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> And then once they came and got you, they were cars like parked by um like the jam area like >> Okay. >> Okay. >> Hey, if my um female lives out of county, can I do an NTA? It's $12. What? you know. Okay. >> $12. >> Target $12. >> It was on sale for seven. >> You still stole it. >> Okay. I'm going to take your bag. I'm going to have you stand up and have you put your hands behind your back like you're praying. Put them in like that like you're praying. Today you're being placed under arrest for shoplifting. Okay. Sorry. You got the small wrist. >> It's too uncomfortable. >> I don't want to put it on your wrist. Just have um you have very small hands. >> Okay. You can have a seat back there for me. Okay. >> What happened? >> Thank you. >> Yes. So, what's going to happen is we're going to wait till they're done with the paperwork. We're going to go to the um inmate facility. I'll do all your paperwork there. They'll process you. They'll book you. This is your first time being arrested. >> So, they'll give you a bail and you'll be able to call somebody while you're there to post bail for you so you can get out and then you'll probably have a court date and I would just keep on top of all that stuff. And >> how much is bail >> that they're going to be able to tell you. I don't I don't know it >> with this situation and it being your first arrest and also >> $13. I I don't can't imagine it's going to be very high. I don't want to give you a number because I don't know for certain. >> We don't want to give you the wrong number. >> Your friends, did they take your car or you're just going to leave your car parked here? >> What you're going to have to do then is because you trespassed from Target as well as the parking lot. Someone's going to have to come pick it up. Or you can call us. I'll give you the non-emergency number. You could just say, "Hey, can I have a deputy standby while I come and get my car because I'm trespassed from the parking lot?" Um, only because after I give you this paperwork, once he signs it, if you come back here, you'll be arrested. We're going to obviously search your bag. Is there any narcotics in there? Anything illegal that we should know about? >> Okay. Do you have anything hidden on you in any female spots? Because if you do bring it into um the jail, it's contraband into a secured facility. It's a felony. >> Do you have like any anything in your bra area in your underwear? >> Okay. Cuz if you do bring it inside, it's going to be an additional charge, which is a felony. >> Okay. >> So, you have nothing? >> Nothing. >> Okay. >> I don't know if what's in my pocket. >> Oh, there's kits in the pocket. As long as it's not like dope, knives, needles, something, a razor blade, you know, something that's illegal or could be a weapon. >> Did you not have the money or you just wanted it and didn't want to pay for it? >> Well, it was on my wrist and then I >> You forgot you had it on. I took off the tag and then >> you took off the tag. >> We'll just learn from this situation obviously. Um, typically with the value, Target would usually just trespass, but I guess they're pulling video footage of you now in the stores on multiple occasions shoplifting, and that's why they want to press charges today. >> Um, as far as I know, they're not really going to press charges for the other amounts. They're just going to do it for the amount of today. Um, but that's what they're doing. They're looking at cameras. They have dated back for months. And that's why I asked you, is this your first time? And I just wanted honesty because they're pulling all those records up right now. How long are you going to be there for? >> Like is there like if I don't get out or is there like a time that I have to be there for or is it just you have >> you'll have you'll have court and they'll let you know? I'm I'm assuming they're going to end up probably giving you some sort of notice to appear anyway. Something like that. Let's say you don't get you can't get bailed out. Let's say you go to the jail, you get booked in, they tell you you're bailed, no one bails you out until tomorrow morning or something like that. You know, you're going to have this bail. I don't Do they have to have first parents? Does everyone have first parents? >> I don't know. That's when I want to get the wrong information. >> Yeah. So, either way, you'll have that bail. And I mean, if you can't get bailed out tonight, you can get bailed out tomorrow. Um, you know, it's just whenever you can get a hold of someone, you you'll be able to make a phone call once in there and stuff like that, too. >> And then because of this, if I get my driver's license, like taken out. Mm- This has nothing to do with The only times we take driver's licenses away is like if you get arrested for DUI and you blow over, which for you it would be a lower limit cuz you're not 21 yet or um if you refuse to provide a sample. Typically, if it's like a DUI offense, that's legally the only times we can take your license from you. Um, besides that, your license is all governed by the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles. They're the ones who regulate all the licensings in Florida. We have no authority to take your license unless it was a DUI. And in the future, too, if you ever I hope you don't, but if you ever do get arrested again, unless it's a DUI, you we we don't do anything with your license. It's like I have your license right now cuz I need your information for the report purposes, but I'm going to give you back your license with your property after your stuff is searched. This is going to be your copy. Obviously, you're being trespassed from Target. So, you cannot come back here. You can't even come to the parking lot. You do get released. >> No targets. >> What happened? >> It's >> just this Target. >> Now, if you go to the Targets in Sanford and you do that and they see it, they can trespass you from there as well. But from Target, you can't be on Target at all and you can't be in the parking lot from each end of Target. All of this is the property of Target. So when you do get released and you need to get your car, she said her car's still parked here. I told her she could call us for a civil standby so you can get your car. Okay. >> I don't even need the voice. You're just coming to your car. We won't >> You sure? So then you could come and get your car. Um obviously you just can't come inside of here. Like I said, I don't think you're >> I got a picture of that. Can I keep the receipt? >> Okay. >> You want to stand up? You're going to go to my Thank you guys. >> Yeah. Thank you. >> Of course. >> Welcome. >> We're going to go to the right. >> My car. Yeah. >> Uh, that's fine. >> Obviously, I'm going to do a pat down search of you. Nothing hidden in any bra area, underwear, nothing at all. >> Okay. >> No worries. >> Sorry. >> Whose other licenses do you have in your pocket? >> My sister. >> What are their names? Why do you have their licenses in your pocket? >> Cuz I found them in my sister's room. >> You found them in your sister's room. >> So if I call these two individuals, they're going to say that you're their siblings. Just be honest. >> These are your sisters? >> She has my last name and the other one's my cousin. >> What's your cousin's full name? >> Where does What Where's her What does she live? >> Uh Indiana. And where does your sister live? >> She lives in North Carolina now. >> Okay. >> Right. So, we were wrapping up routine pat down and then whose other licenses do you have in your pocket? Not one, two, which is when the bracelet story quietly becomes the second most interesting thing happening here. The explanation she provides is that she found them in her sister's room and was showing them to her friends because, and I want to make sure I have this right, they're fake and they're funny. We'll let that one breathe for a moment. >> Where did you find these? >> In my sister's room. >> Your sister Victoria? >> No, my sister Elizabeth. >> Why were they in your pocket? >> Cuz I was showing my friend. >> You were showing your friend? >> Yes, ma'am. >> What were you showing your friend? I'm sorry. >> Cuz they're fake. So I was showing them cuz >> So these are fake ID cards. Like Okay. >> They're So yeah. So I was just showing them cuz I was like, "These are fake. These are funny. >> That's sketchy. She said these are both fake. She had them in her back pocket. She said she found them in her sister's room and she wanted to show her friends. >> They were like made a long time ago. >> Your sister's room. Your sister lives with you? >> No, she doesn't live with me. I was at my sister's. >> Okay. Where's your sister lives? >> In Norand. >> Your sister lives in Orman. >> Yes. If I call her, you give me her number, she's going to say you took those from her room. >> Yes, ma'am. >> What's your sister's name? >> Elizabeth. >> What is this? >> Um, that should be steroids from 07. >> What's your sister's phone number? >> Um, 386. >> And both of these fake IDs were in your sister's room. You were there today in Orman. You took them, put them in your pocket to show your friends. Yes, ma'am. Okay. Obviously, they're fake, so you're not getting them back. >> That's okay. >> Vape. No trash. >> Trash. You want me to go put in your car? >> You can trash it. >> No, she can't take vape sliders. >> Yeah, they don't let them take it. >> You have anything hidden in your bro area? Have a seat in here. Watch your head. >> Would you like your seat belt on? Um, >> weapon. >> Sure. Okay. Just going to grab I'll be right back. Okay. She can't be using them for herself because they don't look anything like her. >> No, but why why else do you have in your pocket? Cuz you wanted to show your friend. You don't think that's kind of weird? >> I think it's weird. >> Super weird. They were in her back >> left pocket. >> They look legit though, right? >> West Virginia looks a little funky. I've never seen a West Virginia one though, but it looks weird. >> So, petit theft, trespassed from Target, and two fake IDs confiscated. What started as a $12.99 bracelet set turned into a considerably longer afternoon than anyone planned. Deputy patience, for his part, stayed exactly that, patient, thorough, and genuinely decent throughout. Anyway, thank you so much for watching, guys. If you enjoyed this one, leave a like, share it with someone who needs a reminder that Target does in fact have cameras everywhere, and subscribe for more. See you in the next
