He's telling Sultan about this thing he had in his bag. >> Two mortars are safe together. >> Guys aren't playing to blow shit up, are you? >> It looks illegal. >> We just don't want to mess with it until the bomb squad comes out here. >> In what becomes a traffic stop, none of these officers are soon to forget. One unexpected discovery after another pushes the situation into territory no one could have predicted. >> This kid's going to blow himself up over here. In the evening hours of July 17th, 2024, two Wandot police officers were on patrol in the vicinity of Ford Avenue. They spotted an old GMC van that was not properly displaying registration. They followed the vehicle onto 9inth Street and attempted a traffic stop. They noted the vehicle was suspiciously slow to stop. Eventually, the vehicle came to a stop after making another turn onto Vinewood. The following footage has never been publicly released until now. >> 710 traffic. >> Hi there. >> How's it going, sir? >> Doing well. How about yourself? >> Pretty good. On my way home. Been a long day. >> Gotcha. I was admiring the truck. It looks a little beat up. >> Trying to figure out what it was. Yeah, you're telling me. >> Is there anything in the car I should know about today? You got any weapons? Any heroin? >> I got a pocket. Okay. >> Some knives and stuff. >> Fentanyl, heroin, guns, grenades, nothing like that? >> Nothing. >> Okay. >> Passenger, just keep your hands where we can see them right now. >> Driver, find your ID. We'll get that in a second. All right. >> You all up to date? Sure. License is good. Everything like that? >> Yeah, I uh just got it back, actually. >> Not restricted or revoked, nothing like that? Suspended? No. Any violent crimes I should know about? You know, murder or nothing like that? >> Petty stuff. >> Okay. Passenger, did you have an ID on you? >> Yeah, I do. But I I'm just a passenger. Okay. I'm just asking if you'd be willing to provide it for me or not. >> I I'm just getting right home. >> Okay. We'll do that in just a moment then. Do you have anything in the car I should know about today? You got no weapons, no drugs. If I wanted >> If I wanted to search inside the car, would you have a problem with that? >> With the passenger appearing nervous, refusing to identify and the vehicle having been slow to stop. Officers know something isn't adding up. They ask to search the vehicle. >> All right. I'll have you set out with me if you don't mind. Absolutely nothing on you I should know about. >> No. All right. You mind if I just make sure you got no ties or nothing? All right. Beautiful. >> All right. Passenger, have you step out with me? All right. >> Don't reach for nothing. >> You mean your name's not Chris? >> No. >> All right. You mind if I chug you for weapons? You got no knives or anything? >> Yeah, I have a knife in my pocket. >> Okay. You mind if I just reach for that and grab that? Make sure I got nothing else. All right. Face towards the car. >> Oh, I got that knife, too. Keep your hand there. I'm going just take everything out of your pocket and get it back soon. Traffic stop, right? >> Y [snorts] all this in here. >> While emptying the passenger's pockets, the officer unknowingly removes some unidentified pills. He is subsequently detained pending their identification. >> What are those? There pills in your pocket? >> What are those? >> Those? >> Yes. >> Um, that's >> okay. Until we identify those vitamins, I'm just going to put you in handcuffs. All right. I'm just going to detain you for the time being. >> That's fine. >> Okay. >> Yeah. Boost your chest. >> Okay. If that's all it is, we'll get you out of handcuffs and I apologize. All right. Oh, just go and stand over here with that officer right there. All right. >> Again, you're not under arrest at this moment, >> dude. I recognize this guy from somewhere. I can't I can't put my finger on it. >> What brand? >> Uh >> some shit online. >> Yeah, it's >> it's like fucked up or something. is something it it 100% doubles your testosterone. Um when it's a plant-based and doubles your testosterone >> I got you know his face >> while officers search the vehicle and ponder the passenger's identity. The passenger shares alarming information with officer 3. >> Is it illegal? >> No. It's a It's a two mortars taped together. It looks illegal. It's two 3-in mortars taped together. >> He said there's two mortars in there that are taped together. >> Two what? >> Two mortars. >> Two threeinch mortars taped together. One to go up in the air. >> While one officer continues searching, two other officers inspect the suspected narcotics found on the passenger's person. They use a searchy Narc cocaine ID swipe to field test the pills for the presence of cocaine. I don't know what it is blue turned blue. >> The pills test positive for cocaine >> over on North Drive. Him and his girl were walking. >> He's not that guy. Remember? >> Yeah, it might be. >> And he was walking and then he fell and punched his face off the ground. >> Is that your house? Your girl's house. >> Some girls. >> Okay. What's her name? a lot of stuff. I'm actually just staying there right now. I'm moving into a house. >> I got you. >> I'm getting a house. I just >> So, is this just like a side piece or is that >> lucky? Wait till you get married. >> Got a penny in there. >> Yeah. >> While officer 3 searches the passenger's articles, other officers work off prior knowledge and attempt to identify the suspect. After a computer search, they find him. >> Jacob Moody. >> Ring a bell. Dude, he's the dude that fell and busted his fucking face open. >> Mr. Moody, >> I remember you now. >> Are you cool if I leave everything with your buddy and I just grab your phone, your wallet, and your keys? I can't bring your knives. So, What? >> Thought I grabbed a boat. >> Thank you. Another one. >> All right. So, your license isn't suspended, revoked, or nothing, but it says it's not valid. >> License is good. Everything like that. >> Yeah. We uh just got it back. Actually, >> it is not valid. So, get the breathalyzer and it's good to go. >> As of right now in in lean, it's still saying not valid. >> You got chore boy. You got cracked. >> Chore Boy, a brand of kitchen scouring pads is frequently used by narcotics users as a filter. >> There's the two bangers you talk them out. >> Yeah. Secure those. Sure. I think so. >> Wonder if this is the mortar we had. >> The device is delicately inspected to determine if it is a firework or something more sinister. >> Promise. Well, I'm going to find out. So, I'll I'll stand over here. >> This kid's going to blow himself up over here in a second. >> I'll stand way back here while you do that. >> What is this thing? >> I have no fucking idea. He said >> it's in your car. >> He He had it. He said he had it. >> Guys aren't planning to blow shit up, are you? >> Hell no. >> It look like you're planning on blowing shit up, Spencer. But if you blow yourself up and be real upset. >> Listen, man. Got to find out what it is. >> You got a knife. >> I don't want to poke into it. Shake it. >> Yeah. >> I don't know. Hold on. >> Fucking bring it with us. But I don't think we want to fucking bring it to the station. >> Secured both of those. Definitely. Is >> this your bag or his bag? >> Camo one. That's his god damn big box. Woohoo. >> That's a palent. Hey. Hey. >> During the search of the passenger's backpack, officers find a realistic looking plet gun, a drug consumption kit, and more unidentified pills. >> Look out of there. See if there's meth in there. >> Nothing. >> Oh, yep. meth looks like something hills out. >> All right, you already don't like me. You're going to like me a little bit less. >> So, as of right now, we're just going to hook you up for the loyering and until we determine what the hell exactly is in the car. >> Until the device could be identified, officers decided to hook the driver for driving without a license and loitering where drugs are present. While Michigan law is vague pertaining to loitering, the municipality of Wandot has enacted a more robust loitering policy. >> Oh, sorry. >> You're fine. What's up? >> Um, so just so you know what's going on, um, this van here, we're going to be leaving it parked here. There's, um, a suspect package in it. They're claiming that it's a firework, but we're not really sure. Okay. >> Um, we're having the bomb squad come out just to be safe. We just don't want to mess with it. And then something happened. >> Officers work on informing the local community and setting up a cordon. They contact Dearbornne Bomb Squad who is dispatched to the scene. >> How the fuck do you use police tape? >> Tie tie a knot in it. 710 with the mail. 71 arrived to the station with a map. >> 71 arrived nose on your window and knocked my glass. Hold on. Sorry. Thank you. >> All right, step on out. >> Like a generic. >> Yes, it is, >> dude. and >> you can't have a schedule, right? >> And the president prescribed. Do >> you have the prescription? >> I don't know. At home. >> According to the police report, detectives performed a MAPS search or Michigan automated prescription system search. The search confirmed the passenger did not have a prescription for the Alprazilam pills found in the metal container. Additionally, the Michigan State Police Crime Lab tested the pill capsules found in his pockets. They confirmed the capsules contained MDMMA or methylene dioxymethamphetamine. >> Can you take your socks off for me one at a time? Turn them inside out. 11 bucks >> and a penny. >> Shoot. Change. Follow the big man. >> The big man told me I was going home right now. >> Listen. >> Then bomb squad got called out and everything changed. >> Detectives interviewed Jeremy and Jacob who advised Jacob had gotten the device from a friend. Unfortunately, there was a malfunction with the interview room recorder and the interviews were not recorded. Detectives also contacted the ATF who advised the device would not get a destructive device determination, indicating the device was likely in fact fireworks. Though the report notes the ATF will review the incident for potential federal charges, a records request showed no charges being brought against either Jeremy or Jacob. The driver, identified as Jeremy, was cited for operating with no valid license. He was charged with one misdemeanor count of loitering where drugs are present. The loitering charge against Jeremy was dropped and we were unable to find any criminal history. The passenger identified as Jacob Moody was charged with two misdemeanor counts of possession, one for the alprazilam and one for the methamphetamine. He was given a $10,000 personal recgnissance bond and released. In court, he plead guilty to one count of possession. He was given a 192day suspended sentence, meaning he wouldn't have to face any jail time. However, on November 30th, 2024, he was again arrested for more drug charges, violating his bond. He was sentenced to serve 30 days in jail and ordered to pay $60 for both cases.
