CRAWL OUT. >> GET OUT. >> JUNE 12TH, 2026. Volusia County, Florida. A dangerous pursuit across Interstate 4 would end with a suspect hiding beneath a parked car and a police K9 waiting above. Authorities say 24-year-old Jabari Dees first fled officers with the New Smyrna Beach Police Department before refusing to stop again when spotted by a Volusia Sheriff's deputy near DeLand. The chase continued toward Deltona, where investigators say Dees drove into an Amazon Fulfillment Center parking lot, abandoned his vehicle, and desperately tried to disappear by crawling underneath another car. But, there was one problem. Volusia Sheriff's Air 1 helicopter had watched his every move from above. As deputies converged on the scene, multiple K9 warnings echoed through the parking lot. According to body camera footage, Dees remained hidden beneath the vehicle, later claiming he had whispered his surrender because he was afraid. Seconds later, K9 Red was deployed. What followed was captured from both the air and on body camera, bringing a dramatic end to a pursuit investigators say was fueled by much more than a traffic stop. Tonight, we're breaking down the newly released footage showing the exact moment Jabari Dees's attempt to evade capture came crashing to an end. This is the arrest of Jabari Dees. >> Hey, they just turned left at Amazon. I don't know. Okay, south side Amazon, the new side of Amazon. They're pulling in the parking lot. Did you see the dog coming? >> That's when I put my fingers out. Yes, that's when I said I'm here. I It wasn't loud, but I said I'm here. >> You whispered to yourself? >> No, it wasn't to myself. I said just like this, I said, "I'm here." >> No way no way he's going to hear that with a helicopter over you. >> Huh? >> You You didn't put There was a helicopter. Helicopters that saw you go under the car. When you ran and hid under the car, the helicopter watched you. It's gone now, man. It doesn't stay. You're caught. >> Following his arrest, Jabari Dees was transported to Halifax Health in Deltona, where he received treatment for puncture wounds to his right arm before being booked into the Volusia County Branch Jail. Investigators say the pursuit was only part of a much larger case. Dees was formally booked on charges including aggravated fleeing and eluding law enforcement, trafficking in heroin, additional narcotics related offenses, and resisting arrest without violence after allegedly attempting to evade deputies on foot beneath the vehicle. As of mid-June 2026, court records had not yet publicly confirmed a formal arraignment date and is being held in the Volusia County Jail on a $4,500 bond. But the most serious allegation may carry life-changing consequences. Under Florida Statute Section 893.135, if convicted, Jabari Dean's faces a mandatory minimum of 15 years in state prison for possession of more than 28 grams of heroin. For now, a chase that stretched across Volusia County and ended underneath a parked car may ultimately be remembered not for the bite from canine Red, but for the decades behind bars that could await if prosecutors prove the trafficking charges.
