GET THEM OUT. >> June 4th, 2026. South Texas. What began as a routine inspection at the Falfurrias Border Patrol Checkpoint quickly turned into a desperate race against time. After a canine alerted on a tractor trailer, authorities say the driver refused secondary inspection and led Border Patrol agents and Texas DPS troopers on a dangerous pursuit down Highway 281. But moments later, flames erupted from the semi and chilling screams coming from inside revealed a horrifying discovery. 39 illegal immigrants trapped behind a locked trailer door. With the fire rapidly spreading, troopers and agents had only seconds to prevent a catastrophe that could have rivaled one of the deadliest smuggling tragedies in US history. Authorities say the occupants were illegal citizens of Brazil, Cuba, Ecuador, the Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Peru, and Venezuela. Investigators alleged the men behind the wheel and inside the cab, 32-year-old Juan Pedro Olguin Florentino and 29-year-old Christian Yohancel Miramontes Martinez, knowingly transported people in conditions that placed lives in jeopardy. Both now face federal conspiracy charges and could each receive sentences of up to 50 years in federal prison if convicted. Their first court appearance was scheduled in McAllen, Texas as Homeland Security investigations continues the case. Officials say the dramatic rescue highlights the deadly risks of human smuggling and how 39 lives were saved by mere moments.
