It all began with a stolen white Hyundai, a violent drive-by shooting, and what would later remain as one of the most intense and dramatic pursuits in Escambia County. >> Shot in the neck. I got you. >> Shot in the neck. >> Hey, shot you. >> We don't know. >> I don't know. >> Baby, you didn't see nothing? No car, no nothing? >> It was JUST A WHITE CAR. >> White car? >> June 2024, Escambia County, Florida. A violent drive-by shooting leaves a 70-year-old woman critically wounded after suspects unleash dozens of rounds into a residential neighborhood. Within minutes, deputies locate the stolen vehicle tied to the attack, triggering a dangerous high-speed pursuit through the Florida night. The chase races toward the Highway 90 bridge, where deputies execute a PIT maneuver to stop the fleeing suspects. But instead of surrendering, the suspects make a desperate decision. One by one, they leap off the bridge into the darkness below. Then, in a moment captured on body cam footage, ECSO K9 Streeter launches off the bridge after them as deputies rush to the railing with guns drawn. This is the full story behind the Escambia County bridge pursuit, the dramatic K9 recovery, and the investigation that stretched across multiple states. >> Talk to me, ma'am. What happened to you? Investigators learned that nearly 40 rounds had been fired during the attack, leaving homes damaged and a 70-year-old woman critically wounded. While deputies secured the crime scene and interviewed shaken residents, patrol units across Escambia County started searching for the suspect vehicle. Just minutes later, deputies spotted a white car matching the witness's description traveling through the area. The moment deputies attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver accelerated, initiating a high-speed pursuit through Escambia County. What started as a drive-by shooting investigation was now turning into a dangerous manhunt on the highway. >> Let me see your hands before. Go down. >> Freeze! >> Get the dog. Get the dog. Instead of surrendering, they climbed over the railing and jumped straight into the water below, turning a highway pursuit into an unexpected marine operation within seconds. >> Investigator Fox, getting ready to throw a drone out. Got 42. >> Yep. >> Perfect. >> Freaking walk, dude. >> You don't have a bridge you're going to say you did. >> The first suspect was later identified as 19-year-old Jaquaris Ethridge. But moments later the situation takes a sudden and tragic turn as officers discover the second suspect, 22-year-old Trevion Moten, died after failing to reach the water during the jump from the bridge. >> What are you doing? >> What? >> How long do you want him first? You want to leave him first? >> No, we're going to throw you in the pond. >> Okay. Take a left. >> Never mind. >> I'm going to try to get >> Ready? >> I'm just going to back out, sir. >> All right. Straight. >> Come out or we're going to SEND THE DOGS. >> ALL RIGHT, HE'S IN THE TREE. ALL RIGHT. YOU'RE GOING TO WANT TO WALK AROUND and check behind it. We all want to go around and check behind the next tree. The tree which is behind the house. >> I don't know. I think it is there. >> You want You want me to go down first or you want me to go? >> Despite an extensive search, the third suspect was nowhere to be found that night. But, the manhunt wouldn't last long. Days later, investigators tracked down 21-year-old Terrance Gross Jr. at the US-Mexico border in Texas, where authorities say he was attempting to flee the country before being taken into custody. In court, prosecutors laid out what they described as a clear chain of events, a targeted drive-by shooting carried out in retaliation for the death of a friend identified as Terrell Owens. Authorities say the suspects intended to target a specific man, but instead, the gunfire struck Myra Hayes, who was sitting on her porch when the bullets tore through the area, hitting her in the neck. Less than 2 weeks later, Hayes died from her injuries. In the end, 21-year-old Terrance Gross Jr. was found guilty of first-degree murder, shooting into a dwelling, and eluding law enforcement. He was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole plus an additional 30 years behind bars. Meanwhile, 19-year-old Jaquarus Ethridge was also charged with first-degree murder and remains awaiting trial as the case continues to unfold. And amid the chaos, the K9 Streeter who followed the suspect off the bridge during the pursuit survived the fall and was later rescued with only minor injuries. And in recognition of extraordinary bravery during the operation, the hero K9 Streeter was later honored for his extraordinary bravery during the pursuit.
