A routine traffic stop by Oklahoma City police quickly escalated into a dangerous high-speed pursuit after a driver refused to pull over near Southeast 15th Street and South Sunny Lane Avenue. Officers say the vehicle fled at high speed through city streets, triggering a full-scale chase. Inside the car was 35-year-old Deshawn Genaro Jefferson, a convicted felon with a lengthy criminal record. During the pursuit, investigators say Jefferson threw a loaded magazine out of the window as the chase intensified. Minutes later, officers executed a tactical vehicle intervention near Pennsylvania Avenue and Reno Avenue, forcing the vehicle to a stop and bringing the pursuit to an abrupt end. You got anything on you? >> Following the arrest, federal prosecutors moved quickly. On May 6th, 2025, a grand jury indicted DeShane Genaro Jefferson on multiple federal charges, including possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute and illegal possession of a stolen firearm and ammunition after a prior felony conviction. Jefferson later pleaded guilty on August 5th, 2025, admitting he knowingly possessed approximately 18 g of methamphetamine with intent to distribute along with a stolen chamber-loaded firearm and ammunition. Despite multiple prior felony convictions that legally barred him from possessing any weapons. At sentencing, US District Judge Joe Heaton handed down a 110-month federal prison term, just over 9 years, followed by 3 years of supervised release. The court emphasized Jefferson's extensive criminal history and the ongoing danger he posed to the community. Public records reveal Jefferson's long pattern of violent and property-related offenses, including conspiracy to commit assault with a dangerous weapon, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, prior firearm possession offenses, concealing stolen property, larceny from a person at night, and second-degree burglary across multiple Oklahoma jurisdictions. In the end, what began as a traffic stop ended in a federal conviction. Another repeat felon removed from the streets, at least for a decade, after a violent high-speed escape attempt that put the public directly at risk.
