We uh through a tip and observation we're able to catch her stealing multiple items. And in the interview process while they were interviewing her, she confessed to like, you know, stealing almost every day the last couple of weeks. Okay. She knows we were bugged. Say again? She knows we were bugged. She knows We were bugged. Oh, well, no. Ricky told me we were bugged. Okay. So, off quick math that we were doing in our head, she's stole a couple thousand dollars worth of merchandise. And you guys have >> We told her to be precise cuz it'll help in, you know, evaluating her future with us. She asked, "Am I going to be fired for this? Am I going to lose my job?" And he was like, "Well, based off your honesty, and the more honest you are with us, we take that into consideration." So, That's a crazy question. Yeah, right? Yeah. Yeah. No, this can't be happening. I like working here. All right, do this nice and Do you guys have video and receipts for all these Yeah, we're going to we'll be able to provide this to you. Yeah, from what he told us, she's doing all the stealing for her family, for her sisters, her father, her mother. So, like we said, it goes, you know, it looks like your parents, your family put you in a predicament. Most people start with petty theft, Well, that's what she said. She said it was she started last, you know, a couple weeks ago, small stuff, and then felt comfortable with it, and then came every day that she was working. That's a lot more like taking the stuff. All right, she's going to text her. I think I'm just going to tell you to walk out of the store. I was going to you know, okay. I was going to say maybe you should hang out here for a little bit and What's that? You guys already got all these products? She needed them. Yes, all right. You just wait wait wait. You guys haven't turned her in yet. Um, did you You got to give me a heads up a little bit. Been with us for a month. Hey, I know her now. I made a copy of the receipt I gave you. That she was supposed to sign. She's 18 years old. Ever had any heads up? He's going to ask her now but you guys going to prosecute her? Yeah. You guys going to trespass her? Trespass her but they typically do it for associates unless she like she gets stupid and stands up and starts yelling at everybody, but I'm pretty sure she's going to cooperate. I just I just got to go. All right, Samantha. Looks like a couple things. All right. Um, certainly anytime an associate calls for a loss prevention or something of that occasion, so the team from Boynton Beach is here to talk to you. All right. So, there's a couple things. All right. Here you go. Um, all right. Do you understand that right? But we still need our stuff back. Okay. One last thing. This is a promise area telling us that we are going to make it right with Kohl's. Do you still have your pen? The principal amount owed is what you put on this statement. Okay. All right. So you're going to write that there. You're okay. Calm down. You're going to print your name and put the date. Do you need that word for you? So Samantha do you like to I do have to make sure you just are aware whether or not you sign it or not. It's okay. All right. You are being released from employment. Okay. You can't come back to Kohl's to work anymore. All right. All right. So these gentlemen are going to have some things that they're going to cover with you. All right. All right. I'm sorry to say that the same thing. You're fine. Do you have anything in your locker that we should get for you while these gentlemen are covering a couple things for you? It's just my bag. >> Is it locked? No, sir. Okay. What's your locker number? It's It's one of the right ones. It's the one at the like very bottom. What's the very bottom? I don't see the locker room. Is it in the What locker number is the locker assigned to? Um I was originally assigned to like 75 but I don't know if I don't know if Oh, it's Yeah, it's a white bag. All right. So this is what I would say. This This gentleman is going to ask you some questions. You be as honest and cooperative with them as you were with me. You understand? Yes, sir. It's like It's a white bag. It's a white bag. tour. It's like Oh, yeah. He's going to dress the very bottom. All right, so let me say this. I have to read you something before I talk to you, okay? We're under arrest. Just I just Listen, Samantha. Everyone's going to treat you with respect. No one's going to yell at you. No one thinks anything. Okay? This was a mistake. But you need to stay calm for us, okay? Can you do that? Can you calm down for a little bit? You want water? Get the uh Fill up the cup for her. I'll find her. Listen. We're going to take her out through this door right here. So, just grab a patrol vehicle and bring her out this way. I don't think you're free. We're going to take her out this door. Sorry. Let me tell you to bring the car. going to take out this door. Sorry, let me tell you what kind of car it is. So, I'm Yes, we we interviewed this associate that works for us. She works in the Sephora department. We were actually doing an investigation on her today. Her name is Samantha Samantha's been with us since March the 14th, 2012. Um, her employment with us, Samantha was found to be bulking out of the store with merchandise that's not been paid for. Certainly, it was all found through video review. Just following up on, you know, daily habits with our associates in our departments. What we found is more than four occasions so far. Came in to interview. Certainly, she admitted to many more events all happening at the end of her shift, walking out of the store with merchandise, never making a purchase. So, she admitted to stealing A thousand, is that the correct amount or is that just what she admitted? That's That's what she admitted to. She's going to bring back all the rest of the products. It could be a difference. It could be a little bit more. But, we won't know until it's fully back in the store. All right. So, that's it for you. I'm going to Well, Do you think I should call him or should I call him later? Yeah. I just got a call from you. So, you could raise your right hand. Okay, so basically, Ricky and I were reviewing some audio video, going over some testing exams that I'm preparing for. An email came through and during that email, it read that there was possible disassociation, disassociate activity with a particular individual. Upon review, Ricky and I had found on multiple occasions on different days her taking merchandise stealing it either in her Sephora bag or her purse and exiting the store. Okay. And you guys wish to prosecute? We wish to prosecute on all the offenses. Okay. They actually got that, too. So, do you guys have like a list of the like the times she stole? Yes, and that's going to be uh put into >> Included in evidence.com? detail. Okay. Once she gets the information all the three. All right. I'll drop the I'll drop the receipt in there for it. Look at um it's got the total of what we what we know until we can get back the rest. Okay. Like I said, based off what Like I told you when we were walking back here, based off quick math that we did, it's $2,000. So, in his, you know, interview with her, he said the more she talked with us in the police interview, Yes. you know, in the whole process of it, so basically that was to jog her memory to make her think harder like, you know, money she just put everything that I put in the drawer. You know what I'm talking about. Yes. You know, you know, you talked to your sister, you know, you talked to your sister, you know, you talked to your father, you know, you talked to yourself. Okay. And that'll give us an idea Sorry, I had But so far we haven't been able to provide for us today the details on everything. You guys I have a review video already. So You have guys you have video already? Yeah, yeah, yeah, we have our video. So I can just check it out. Is anything established whether we have scheme to defraud yet or not? Okay. So they've got four days right now. Several hundred dollars worth of stuff. I've got four days. They haven't got all the video yet. She's admitted to doing this for several more days. Possibly two weeks. So I'm going to go. Get his opinion. This is part of the stuff you're going to have to do when you're on your own. Yeah. If we have the video for the four we can scheme to defraud. The thing is is that anything afterwards at this point will either be in addition to or a separate thing. >> Okay. So what we need to find out is what we have here today, what we can charge her with. You guys are good after that you're just washing your hands clean from this cuz she's fired. >> Will that be the report number? Mhm. That's that's a perfect number. But we'll get what we can get today cuz that's probably the route that I would go. Anything else? I'll get her a parking ticket. Okay. He's got it. He's got everything now. All right. We want to document it just on so we can articulate everything we see and then you guys will submit the videos later. We'll send you a link. You explained this to He did. Yeah, he got the information. So then we can figure that out when we're submitting the whole package to the state. >> Correct. Okay. Is it hers? Yeah. >> Okay. I bet you thought it was mine. I know. Do you have your ID there so I can It's a problem. You know what the problem is? Yeah, I don't carry it. Okay. All right, so here she is last night. So I'm going to pause it. So last night she comes up to the parking lot carrying the same bag she's currently got in the office. Here you'll see she fidgets She's She's going to grab something of here and then she backs up. What time is it around what time is it? Uh 9:04. She actually conceals the product at 9:06. Um so here she's looking at something. That's what she winds up taking but she don't take it quite yet. So what's that speaker at least now? Yeah. So she'll walk over here, walk back. Now is where we're putting items in there? No, not yet. Um she's already got the Sephora bag in her purse that she had already taken from inside the shop. Um but this is one of the first things that we saw her do. She'll go back out there on the aisle and she'll conceal conceal the speaker that's out there. All right, so here. Let me come back up just a little bit so you can see what she does. So she grabs there's a Sephora bag back here. Okay. So you'll see she grabs that bag. So you'll see there's already I don't know if you if you saw there there's already a couple things in there. She comes over here. Store is closed by the way. It's 9:13 at night. We close at 9:00. Okay. She grabs here and here. You good? Yeah, I just thought about it. What? How would a female take three separate deodorants out? Yeah, I'm going to figure it out. Don't worry. 11 concealed. 10-20. 10-20. All right. I'll be right back there. They're going to take her out. Say what you got in your purse. Do you have anything else on you? 10-20. All right, we're going to search for the merchandise. I'm also taking Okay. Just clear out. Going to transport her. All right. He just turned his wrist though. Take her out. Take her out to the side door. I'm going to advise her. Take her out through the side door, please. Work has two shifts left and I'm making her work. Just two? Yes. Take her to the loading dock and have her sign the paperwork. She's pretty calm. Hey, I think the tire hit the corner. Go ahead and go. Oh, they're here. You got them with nothing there. Oh, they're trying to get her receipts. She'll go and just start taking stuff off, putting it in the bag. Now, we have a controls in place that's supposed to prevent that [ __ ] from happening. It's like the fourth DA I've taken out of here with a store team doing package checks. That's what it should be. How do you guys catch one of these? Um actually, a store associate gave us tips that she was acting weird. So, we started reviewing video of all of her closed shifts and she just boom. I got the email like, "Hey, I think we might have something." >> Good for that for a quick check. Started with this. We saw her conceal this last night. Now, we're at this. Great. You got everything we need? You can have it on my phone. Um So I'll put Is it Is it okay if I put you And you have anything on file? report is there? Okay. Officer, I might be able to get the report number. I'll send every video that I have. Do you want me to only send the video for this right now? >> Yes. Okay. Yeah. Then what do you want me to do with the secondary? Well, the thing is we're charging her with scheme to defraud. So we've already seen that. Yep. Anything that we're doing it's already like it would just strengthen the case if you wanted to. It'd be a supplement to the report, but there wouldn't be additional charges. Yeah, yeah, fair enough. I don't So what we're doing is what we have right now, but because it's the systematic theft over and over again. Okay. It would be additional charges, but that's what this all kind of encompasses. Sure. Yeah, yeah, I just I want to give you whatever you want, so you just Cuz like let's say that you come back later and it's a much higher amount or whatever it is, maybe there's an enhancement. I think there's an enhancement for the type of the amount that's being taken, right? Yeah, but I guess she's never going to reach I think it's like $100 or something. Oh. So is it over like a crazy amount? >> So it just strengthens the case, but we already have quite a bit and she's confessed. She was taken into custody after surveillance exposed repeated theft. Now facing serious charges that could lead to years in prison and heavy fines if convicted. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty. Was it worth it?
