This is the scene where a night out turned into a nightmare. Tonight we look at the St. Augustine DUI case that resulted in a near 5-year sentence and the heartbreaking story of the victims. The incident occurred near the Castillo de San Marcos. Body cam audio captures the immediate aftermath. Witnesses detailing a speeding vehicle driving off the road. The suspect, Shannon King, 22, was quickly identified. Officers reported the smell of alcohol and her breath samples later confirmed she was double the legal limit. I I witnessed it. Okay. All right. Um I was sitting in my car waiting for my two friends. I'm the designated driver tonight. Okay. >> And I remember just seeing that car over there. A probably a drunk driver hit that girl in the pink shirt. I only saw her body fly. I did not see the second girl get hit. >> saw one. And then I just remember him just like driving straight. Okay. And then he crashed. All right. Oh my god. That could have been our friends. I know. Let me figure out y'all two, three. Y'all stay right here. Do not go anywhere. Yes, sir. Give me just a second. So we were just sitting in the car talking. Um we saw these girls at one of the bars. I was like, "Oh, that's the girl from the bar. She's carrying a plant." And then like a minute later we're we're just talking about everything and then we hear a loud noise and I look behind me and I just see the body like fly across. Like it literally the pink girl the girl in the pink shirt right there. She just flew across the whole parking lot basically. And then the car just crashed all the way over there. That's all we saw. Okay. So you saw the car hit the body or just the body fly? I I I heard the body and the car impact and then I I just saw her flying. I didn't see another body. I know there's another girl that got hit as well. She's all the way over there but we It was the one that crashed the silver one. The one that crashed all the way over there. >> Okay. Yeah. And you saw that silver car hit the body or hit the person? >> I didn't see it. I heard the impact. I I heard it and I looked behind me and I just saw her flying. >> Okay. And what about Yeah, they were coming up through there and I mean that car flying around and just blasted right there and so She's she's with that one. Okay. So somebody needs to be like Yeah. a horrible on her and make sure she don't leave cuz she was freaking out. Did you witness the car come through the parking lot? >> Yes, I did. Do you have your ID on you? Uh I do have a passport with me. Okay. So we were walking by that road and we just saw us like someone hit and someone like flew over there. Do you have her saying Did you I see I got I see you got blood on you. You okay? Did you get hit? >> No, I pushed one of my friends out of the way. Okay. All right. But do you need to see fire rescue? I don't Okay. [Music] Are you all witnesses Yeah, we witnessed Okay. Y'all witnessed it as well? >> Yeah. Yeah, but I was coming this way and I saw the car jump the curb, hit them, jump that curb and then land over there. Yes. I doubt he's not coming back for our car. What did you Hey guys, has anybody spoken to you yet? No. Regarding what has happened? No, nobody's talked to me. Well, let's start there. Did you guys see what occurred? Yeah. All right. What did you guys see? We were uh hanging around Yeah, I think they needed to use the restroom. I think they needed to wash their hands. Okay. Well, we have wipes and things like that. We hung around here actually for a little while for sure. And the silver it's a silver four-door which come It flew this direction. It did it missed the turn so he came straight through the parking lot. Exactly. He was He was running so fast he missed the turn so he just like flew over and these two were walking and just like ran them over ran them He was traveling So he was coming from Coming towards us like where the headlights are coming and instead of making the turn he came straight through They They missed cuz they were so fast that they just missed the turn and they jumped like they jumped I think he he maybe sideswiped that stop sign like sparks flew Okay. But you saw the car like Yes. He was Uh I mean we weren't going that fast cuz the light was But I definitely it it it got my attention cuz I'm like >> We could tell he wasn't going to turn. Yeah, you can tell he was not going to turn or whatever whoever was in the car. I was like, "Wait." And then it just flew like Okay. It's 2:00 a.m. It's absolutely 2:00 a.m. >> have been busy. They broke up a fight like we literally 5 minutes before that happened they were breaking up a fight over there. Um but he definitely he must have hit the stop some he hit something and sparks >> went like flew and he kind of Yeah and and people were walking and that's when like It hit someone. It hit someone. And that's why we turned around. But I that's crazy that he like And what car did you guys see? It was like a silver Like a maybe like a Camry Like a silver small sedan? Yeah, like a four-door. Well, I saw it all the way down there. Yeah, it was like a silver I don't I don't know what it was but it was like a When you saw the the two Who did you see whenever like Well, it was like I I I was like they hit someone because I I saw her like someone walking. Like I saw a group of them walking and I see how the car like kind of flew and then I'm like he they hit someone. They hit someone. But I I can't say who it was. The victims, Addie Myers, a Flagler College soccer player, and her friend Riley McGovern. Both were critically injured. McGovern was placed in a medically induced coma. Investigative reports reveal a tragic act of heroism. McGovern attempted to push Myers out of the car's path just before impact. What did you Yes. Um so we were walking out of that the edge of that fence right there. >> Okay. Um to our car across over here. So it's to about that palm tree over the part of the palm tree. >> Okay. And the car came straight in from the outside here. So it >> So it came from the south going this way towards north? I didn't see if it came from the south or from this way. All I know is that it came really fast. >> Okay. Um I would say at least 50 miles per hour. >> Okay. Um and we ran over both like hit both of them. They flew and rolled over the windshield. Okay. Um and almost hit both me and um Paige over there. Um and then they kept kept going. I thought he and about until like around here. Okay. Yeah and then I checked both of their pulses as soon as they were hit. Um they both had pulses. They both were breathing. Um but I saw Riley, the one over here, did have blood coming from her head. Um and that's when the you know police walked in and I let them handle everything but luckily they were here though. Okay. Okay. All right, you're good. Thank you. Thank you. So we were walking and we're going to our car and then we just heard the screeching. Then I pushed one of the guys out of the way and I ran out of the way and then they completely hit Riley and Addie and they both went flying in the air. Okay. Um completely hit Addie. And so the vehicle was coming from this direction or that I mean I'm not really sure. They were coming from that way. They were coming this way. Okay. And then this thing didn't turn at all. All right. And then they came through the parking lot, struck your two friends. Yes. Almost struck y'all. Yes. They almost hit all of us. Okay and then they came to rest over there where it's at. Oh yeah. Okay. All right, cool. I appreciate it. Hey ma'am. Do you have your chocolate with you? What's your first name again? My name is Eliana Maggio. Okay. And I got your ID right? I was sitting in my car. I remember seeing that car speeding really fast. I heard it hit something. From my passenger my my bad. Sorry, my brain's like all frenzy. >> You're good. On my driver side mirror I saw that girl's body fly. Okay. That's when I got out of my car. That's when I officially saw the drunk driver hit um whatever he hit over there.
