[snorts] Can you give me your first name and your last name? >> First name is Luis, L U Y S. Last name is Sir, am I arrested? >> Uh I'm trying to get the info for your daughter so we can have the mother >> No, no, no, no, no. The mother doesn't have to come. >> All right. >> The mother doesn't have to come. Let's make that clear. >> Okay. >> Okay, if I'm arrested, it's something different. Then the mother will come. If I'm arrested, then the mother will come. >> So, we're figuring things out right now. Let me close the door so you keep it in AC, okay? It is hot. All right. >> How did she look like when she was swimming? >> She was fine. She was fine. >> She was doing good? >> She didn't know how to swim. The water is very like it's shallow there. But still like I was like you can't keep leaving the baby there. >> How long would you say that she the baby was left alone? Any threats of a gun or anything? >> Yeah. >> He was screaming a lot of racial stuff. Did you hear any of that? >> Everything you can think of he said it. He also said he just won the Powerball. >> Would you say that he neglected her? >> I would say he KEPT COMING BACK TO check on her but he also kept disappearing. >> For like 20 minutes at a time? >> Yeah. >> Okay. Hi Sammy, this is Deputy Valdez with the Monroe County Sheriff's Office. How are you doing? >> I'm okay. Is everything okay? >> So at this time your husband was at Gilbert's with your small daughter. He got into an altercation with some staff member here where he battered them. He's going to go to jail. I have your daughter here. So where where are you located so I can transfer custody to you? >> I'm in >> Okay. Is there any way you could possibly come here and I could give you your daughter or you don't have no means of getting here? >> Yeah. Yeah. I can get there. I can get there. >> Okay. Perfect. I'll see you here. >> Okay. I'm in right there. >> Okay. Bye-bye. All right. So you got to >> Put his charges. He was spitting in my life. >> Okay. You and her want to press charges? >> Yes. >> Both? Okay. All right. So we were we were at the part where he grabbed you. >> He was at a table out at the beach. I walked out to the table to tell my girls he's cut off. No more drinks for him. When I went over there and said that he grabbed me by the shoulder and pulled me toward him and put his face in my face and then tell me do you do you know who I am and this and that and whatever. I said it doesn't matter you're cut off. Don't touch me. Back off. And I walked away. Then he kept coming at me into my face. I told him back off. And then he said, "I'm done with you. You girls come here. I'm going to give you guys a tip." But he had grabbed my other girl too a while before that. Like he's just grabbing on everybody. He was grabbing on our good guests at the bar here which is where I noticed and that's when I decided I needed to cut him off. We didn't even serve him that many drinks. So he must have been drinking on his boat. >> Yeah, on the vessel. >> And then when he came to tell him he just was going in on him. I mean, you saw it. And that was nothing compared to what he was doing before you guys got here. >> He said that I will shoot you with a gun. I have a guns. My boy puts his daughter little daughter on the boat and I was scared to come to the boat because he said that he will shoot me, that he will kill me with a gun. He said he will >> So, some of the girls went to the boat to talk him back off because we're concerned about the little girl. >> Oh, he's going to jail. >> Yo, papi. >> What's up, man? >> What's up, man? >> We got your wife coming, man. So, you got to pick up your daughter, right? Cuz you're going to go in the jail. >> Who's going to jail? >> to jail. >> For what? >> For battery, disorderly intoxication, and assault. >> Battery on what? >> Cuz you had grabbed one of the waitresses. That's what it is, man. All right. >> We got a whole slew of problems. Skis neglected his child. He would go to the bar over here and allow him the baby to swim on her own, which caused one of the waitresses to be concerned that she stood by the child. So, you got neglect of the child. We need to call DCF. >> We got the mother coming. I'm going to have him get her information and the information of the child so that we can contact DCF once once I do the whole charge report and everything done. >> So, what's what are your charges? >> Battery, assault, disorderly intoxication, and child neglect. >> Okay, resisting without >> I have resisting without. >> Okay, explain to him that if he kicks and stuff like that, stop on the side of the road or we'll hog tie him. >> I want to see the ambulance because he hit me. He slapped me in the face. >> Okay, you'll get you'll see him. >> I want to see an ambulance right now. >> Okay, you'll see him. >> Okay, I want to press charges. >> Okay. >> Okay, can I make a report? >> Yep, it's on Everything's on camera. >> Okay, I want to make a report. >> Everything's on camera. >> Okay, how do I make a report? >> It's on camera. >> Okay, I want to make a report. I understand what you're saying, sir, and I mean no disrespect. My clothes are very handcuffing. The guy handcuffed it talked to me. >> Are they? >> So, I want to press charges. >> It's all right. It's all right. It's all right. It's all right. I'm going to listen to you, okay? >> Oh, that's better. That's better. >> Can I see your sergeant? I want to do a report because he did grab my neck and choked me. >> I'm right here. I got to do a report. >> you. Not you. The other guy. >> What other guy? >> The other guy. The guy with the beard that works here. He my neck. >> Can you sit for me any more comfortably that way? >> I got my daughter with me. I know I know I've been drinking a little bit, but come on, man. Like, right is right. Come on. Come on. Come on. Come >> for you, okay? Sergeant Dodge, your husband had left your little one. How old is she? >> Five. >> All right. Basically, on the beach and in the water by herself for up to 20 minutes at a time. We can't have that. Now, having said that, because there's a child involved in this, we have to report that to DCF. We have to >> I have my children here. >> Okay, so we're going to report that. Have you ever had any issues with DCF? >> No. >> Okay. He's going to get your information and then we'll just pass it along on like that. I don't know what his issue was. He's been drinking a lot. He said a lot of racially things to people in the in the Tiki Hut. >> hit anybody? >> Allegedly, there was an altercation between him and the manager. There's a slew of charges that he's going to be charged with. The main charge he is going to be charged with is child abuse. Okay. Just give give the deputy your information and we'll go from there. You're good. He'll get a case card. >> We always go out as a family. We never we never separate. >> This time he he went overboard, okay? He'll take your information, okay, ma'am? >> Okay. >> All right, ma'am. Good job. >> The suspect, 50-year-old Lewis, was charged with felony child neglect, battery, [music] resisting without violence, disorderly intoxication, and simple assault. He is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law. >> Normally, I wouldn't sit here and give you definitions you can Google yourself, but sometimes the behavior fits the word so clearly before slowing down for a sec. Prejudice is forming an unfair opinion about somebody without the facts. Racism is believing one race is better than another. When this video opened with Lewis already calling somebody an A-rep, I'm not throwing those words around like What bothers me even more is his daughter. Now, witnesses said this little girl was left unsupervised around the beach and water for up to 20 minutes at a time when her father was drinking. A research involving 222 injured young children found that the less supervision that they had, the greater the odds of serious injury. So, thankfully, she wasn't hurt. And I can't think it about this was seeing more encounters where people seem to open with anger, aggression, and sometimes this racial garbage before anyone's even done anything to them. I don't know what's driving all of it, but we need to start asking why. Because if something doesn't change pretty fast in Louis's life, his daughter may eventually be the one paying for decisions she absolutely nothing to do with.
