And what happens next is all caught on body cam. >> WHAT did you see him do? >> All right. Following my investigation, I'm going to detain you for now, okay? I'm not placing you under arrest yet. I just want to finish everything, okay? >> I never touched him. I know what I did. >> All right. >> Okay, before we do anything, can we get everyone here because it's not fair that it's all them versus us? >> Okay, so if you know the guys that got in the fight, I would be more than happy to speak to every single one of them. >> Okay, cuz we'd like to know why they decided to do it. >> All right, I'm patting you down patting you down before I put you in my car, okay? So the shirtless one right there is the one that got jumped. >> Okay. You want to come talk to me real quick? Can you give me a run down of what's going on? >> So we pull up So we pull up to the to the bank, right? And I'm sitting there I'm talking to my buddy Evan. Sitting on the front of the boat having a full conversation with him. Sitting there next thing I know, boom, then eight of them jumped on me. Start I'm on the ground like this. >> How do you know there were eight? >> Cuz that's what everybody said. They >> I mean I'm saying like how do you know the Are you They friends Okay. >> I can get Evan here. He was there. He said he He said he had no idea who the other boys were. He had no clue who they are. >> There were two of them. >> I'll get Evan here. >> So how how are y'all associated with the people that are on the boat right now? That are gone. >> friends. >> Not even friends. We just friends of a friends. >> Have you already given her all their names? >> I don't know them. >> We don't know the names. That's the problem. >> So, y'all came here, y'all were friends, and you don't know the names. Look, this is Look, this isn't a situation where I'm asking you to snitch or anything like that, but just understand. What I'm telling you you need to do is give me their names so we can keep this going. Because if you don't, and I find out you're lying to me, I will take you to jail. I'm not above that. I mean, at the end of the day >> Y'all don't want this to interfere with your life. >> on probation. I'm not trying to get into any more trouble. >> Okay, so there you go. So, give me at least a couple of their names. I know you know more than what you're telling me. >> The kids that I met that I know for sure swung on him that were only Anthony and Lane. That's all I have. That's the only two people I know. >> Okay. Just hang out right here for me, please. >> Have you Have you talked to him at all? >> He's trying to say that he didn't hit the kid. I mean, if you look at his skin, he's got like fresh scratches on it. I mean, they they kind of look like defense wounds. >> Okay. >> He said it's from hunting, but I don't >> Hey, man. So, I'm Corporal Friend with the Sheriff's Office. I'm just going to kind of give talk to you a little bit. There are people that are specifically telling me that you're one of the people punching him. >> Yeah, I mean, I If he was >> If he was saying something >> love, that was not me. I didn't touch him. I have witnesses on my side that would say the exact opposite. I never touched him. I was in the woods when I saw it happen. >> Okay. >> Hey. >> We got it. We're We're trying to We're trying to figure out who it even is. >> All right. >> Before you explode on anybody, we're trying to figure out who it >> I'm not going to explode on him. I just like to talk to him. >> I'm sure you do. >> No, no. I mean, >> Yeah, he he knew kid hit it. Is that why you're holding him back right now? >> Oh, yeah. That's why >> They're They're not holding >> They're not holding me back, man. I mean, >> I just like to know that this is my kid. He's 13 years old. >> So, >> I mean, you're going to beat up a 13-year-old kid? >> The person who supposedly did it is in my backseat right now. He's being questioned. Okay? >> Okay. >> All right. >> Questioned. He's He's being held off. >> Okay, so we're trying to figure out if he actually did it or not. >> There's four witnesses that said he did it. >> Right, so we have to do our investigation. So let us do our job. >> Yes, ma'am. >> Thank you. >> Look, man, you spend a whole day on the boat with these guys and you don't know who they are. >> I mean, all that I know is my friend my friend Aiden, my friend Kiri. That's them three. That's the only people I'm friends with. I don't talk to none any of them other people. >> Okay. Well, just hang tight for a little while. We're trying to sort this out. So where did Where was he when He was right next to you, you said? See, there's the problem right there. I mean, he's telling me if y'all maybe had to got y'all's story straight before this, it would have been a little more believable. He was apparently in the woods. He was apparently with you. He apparently didn't do anything. Come on, man. So, you want to give me the names of the other people now? >> No, I swear to God I only know Laymon Anthony. That's on everything. >> All right. Well, just hang out right here and I need the people that were that actually witnessed it. >> At this point, officers thought they had seen everything, but they were about to realize that this incident was far from over. >> Look. Hey. Okay, that's fine. That's fine. Y'all get back. Y'all get back. Y'all get back. Y'all get back. Y'all get back. You too. You too. I I Guys, look. Y'all are all family. Y'all are all pissed off. I'm done talking. I'm done talking. I'm done talking. We're done. Hey, we're done. We're done. We're done. Listen. Listen. >> My squad absolutely. >> We need to know like the extent of his injuries and everything like that. That way cuz I mean, this could be a battery to aggravated battery. So, by the looks of it, probably going to be an aggravated battery. >> Do you know which one had the net and was hitting you with it? >> Oh, you were hit with the net? >> No, I was hit with >> I was fighting him. >> No, he was hitting my patrol motor. >> In the back of his neck? >> Yeah, but look, that's him in the back of his neck right here. I don't know where what That's >> You're going to need stitches, by the way. >> That's fine. >> Yeah, we're going to go. >> I mean, it hurts but I mean, you can't really tell but >> The fence? >> Uh no, I'm not involved. >> Do you want to just grab a picture of the pole real quick? >> Yeah, they have it. Okay, perfect. >> I would have actually stopped him before he hit it. I grabbed him. Make sure he didn't hit me with the pole. He definitely He tried to hit me with it. >> But he didn't actually get it on you? >> No, sir. But either way, I mean, he tried. >> tried hitting me. >> Okay. >> Yeah, that big pole. >> Yeah, the handle's off of it. >> You just leave it right there, boss. You leave it right there. >> Yeah, I think they scratched up my boat, too. >> Hey, do you want to get a picture of his bloody, ripped-up shirt from him? >> Yeah, that's his shirt. >> Can I lay it down? >> No, you're good. This is Evan. >> Evan, the one that was helping get these people out. >> This is Evan. You're Evan. These two were there. Okay. And then you How many were there? >> There was at least six. >> Six? >> At least. >> Do you know any of them? >> No, I've never met these boys. >> Okay. >> Not a day in my life. >> One One was >> Kid you went to school with? >> Some of the kids >> Okay. >> Y'all do me a favor, just go up there. But you saw all these kids, they were all involved, they all punched him. >> Not all these kids, no. >> The ones that are involved, they're gone, they're So, no one here would punch him. >> No, they're on They're at the other boat ramp. >> Okay. >> Already got dropped off. >> Okay. Y'all want to talk to me under this tree real quick? Hey, look, look, look, look, look. >> he's >> Okay, let's just all be cool. Let's just all be cool. We're not going to do all that, you're not going to run up here. We're not We're not playing these games, okay? >> I'm not playing no games. >> I'm not I'm not saying you are, bro. I was standing right there. >> Okay, so tell me what happened from the top. >> I was standing exactly right there. Happened right in front of me. Happened in >> He don't touch nobody. He didn't touch anybody, but I was there to grab people off of >> Okay, so >> So what happened? >> Hold on. Hold on. I know exactly. And he was like, "You guys are trying to blame it on all of our boats." I was like, "We went on the river." >> I love the boat up. So it's not sitting in the water all time. >> No, just wait, bro. Everybody's interrupting. I don't give a I don't care. I don't care. The way I feel right now is I just take everybody. I don't care at this point. I really don't. Okay. Hey, I'm done talking. Like, I'm sorry. >> it, but I told you several times to stand back. >> should have said something. I'm sorry. But, I mean, >> But, then you kept walking back and forth. Walking >> trying to get the >> I understand that. >> I know the river flows. >> What am I going to think? Look at what just happened. >> I'm sorry. Yeah, I mean, I'm in handcuffs. It sucks. I hate it. Trust me. I've never been in handcuffs a day in my life, neither has my brother. And now here we are, together. [snorts] >> Yeah, I've heard it a day total. They make money off of getting a ticket. >> Yeah, I know it. >> I ain't no >> ticket is getting >> Getting arrested for no reason. >> You don't get a warning, a ticket, or nothing. >> Y'all are not getting locked up. >> Yes, the [ __ ] we are. >> No, y'all are not. >> What are we in handcuffs for? >> Because they're That's why. >> They are. >> That's why. >> Hey, they're not going >> They're not going nowhere unless I'm with them. >> Right. Do you think that's how this works? >> Yeah, right. It don't. >> They don't care. They don't care. They're putting whoever they can in jail. >> It's going to be him, too. He's going to go in cuffs, too. >> Tyson, bro, what the >> Why is he being arrested? >> All four of us are arrested. Come on. >> Arrested. Arrested. >> For what? >> FOR WHAT? >> PULL AWAY FROM ME, IT'S GOING TO BE BAD FOR YOU. >> WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO? SLAM HIM? >> WHAT? >> WHAT ARE YOU DOING? >> [ __ ] IT UP. >> NO, IT'S AWESOME. CAN I TALK TO HIM? SHUT YOUR MOUTH, ALL RIGHT? Listen to what they say. We don't need to be in no more trouble for no reason. I mean, we're in trouble for no reason already. Cuz if I would have hit him, I would have broke his Just wait. WE'RE GOING TO JAIL. Come on. Come to my car. >> Yeah, who is that guy? >> That [ __ ] Please, I have nowhere to go. THAT'S MY BROTHER. >> CAN YOU GET MY PHONE out the boat? You want me to put him? >> Yes, if you don't mind. >> You got it. Put him Actually, we got two spots. Can I put one more in there? >> My bad, bro. >> It is what it is. From the beginning, when you walked up, did I not tell you >> I respect Honestly, bro, I respect it. It's just, you know >> But but Didn't I tell y'all when you walked up? I said, "Bro, they're not accusing y'all. We just need to figure this out." Did y'all not act a fool? You know how easy this would have been? Y'all would have been on that boat and home by now. Dude, it's such bull It's such a stupid thing. All right. >> After everything that had happened so far, officers were finally getting answers. But one final detail was still missing, and that detail would change the way this entire incident was understood. >> Just go over there. You're making You're making it You're making this so much worse. >> I don't care what I'm doing. >> Okay, just go over there, Mariah. Absolutely. You can go over there. Y'all can do whatever y'all want. >> Were they trying to get into it with them and >> Yeah, so pretty much they came up. I explained to them what was going on. These guys were not even being accused of anything. I just needed their side of the story. So then they started kind of getting into it. This guy right here, I told him multiple times, I'm like, "You need to stay back over there." Cuz he's the brother of one of the people that got involved. >> So get away from this officer. But everybody that's cuffed was resisting at some point. >> Hi, I'm Ali. >> Okay. >> I have been at the house working my ass off all day while these kids came on the boat. These kids, they got in the altercation or whatever. It has nothing to do with this guy right here. He was coming to help load up the boat because he was at the grocery store. They have groceries groceries in the damn car if you want to go look at them. >> Well, >> No, let me finish my sentence. >> I'm not talking to you. I'm done. I'm done talking to you. I don't care. You weren't here. I don't care. >> What happened? Please explain. What happened? >> I I just tried to talk to you, but you're talking over me and I'm not doing it. >> I'm trying to explain to you >> Okay. >> what I know. >> talk to me like a human being and I'll talk to you like a human being. If not, I'm done talking. >> Okay. I absolutely do. >> Well, then let's talk. >> Okay, so now what? Please >> Now they're all going to jail. >> Who is going to jail? >> Everyone. Everybody that's in the car. And I'm >> Who is in the car? >> Hey, can I get my brother's phone? >> So, whoever's in the cop car is going to jail. >> Yes, that is correct. >> They're going to jail. Okay, not for long though. >> Yeah, they'll get a bond. It's a resisting charge. It's a misdemeanor. They can get out within an hour. But >> So, us since we're all girls, how do you expect us to get the boat out of the water? >> I Look, I understand what you're saying. I I don't want to >> All right, please tell us what >> I might be >> car. >> This is not my problem. >> No, I understand where you're coming from and it's not your problem. You're doing your job, but I don't know how you guys expect us to get the boat out of the water. >> And the way I'm going to say this is not going to come off right. >> We will figure it out. >> you go. >> Okay, we will figure it out. >> Good. All right, so now you're taking them to the to the station for processing. >> Yes, sir. For simple misdemeanor resisting. >> Okay. >> Okay. >> All right. >> Where >> Guys, guys, you need to back up. You need to back UP. >> LET MY GRANDPA TALK TO HIM. LET GRANDPA GET AWAY. >> OKAY, it looks like you're going to have to spend the night in jail. You can make bond. >> No, he's not going to spend the NIGHT IN JAIL. >> IT'S A MISDEMEANOR. He's going to get a bond. >> All right, just misdemeanors. Everybody be calm. You take deep breaths and cooperate with the police. Just and don't say anything else about the case. Just cooperate with the police. We'll bond you. >> Please don't panic. Okay, he takes these two men away. >> Okay. >> So if somebody needs to know the youngest one when he gets >> Just calm down. It's going to be all right. >> Okay. >> Yeah. >> You good? >> Uh-huh. >> Okay. They said you were panicking. >> It's okay, honey. You'll be out in a few hours. >> Yeah. >> He never touched her. >> I had three witnesses tell me >> Don't argue. That's okay. >> I had three witnesses told me they saw him >> Is it your other one is that your brother? >> No, that's my brother. >> Oh >> So yeah, we got four juveniles. >> Damn yeah, y'all are killing me, man. This could have been and I don't have to talk to y'all about the case or anything like that. It's just it's a simple misdemeanor. >> They're okay, they're both juveniles. So what what's going to happen right now is we're going to take them up to the jail. We're going to try to process them through. We have to contact DJJ to see if they'll accept them. I can tell you right now DJJ's not going to accept them. So from there we'd contact you and then you'll come pick them up from the jail. Essentially. >> I can't take them now? >> No, sir. No. No, we we gave them ample opportunity to do that. >> y'all whatever the y'all can do to them I can do worse. I need them with me. >> I understand but it they they took it out of our hands. >> Are they in the in the back? Can I just pick him up? I just want to say so. I just want to say something to my son. >> Okay, wait wait till he opens it up and then >> Kyle, what's your last name? >> This is why flex cuffs are definitely a necessity. Now when I was a police officer, I remember responding to scenes that just turned into complete chaos. And while I was attempting to investigate the initial call, I remember actually running out of handcuffs due to cuffing multiple people at the same scene. And training is one thing, but when an officer has to get in the middle of a physical situation with multiple people, [music] the situation can get completely crazy and hectic. Now today we have a different one, guys. The DeSoto County Sheriff's Department responds to a disturbance involving a boat and the evidence is pointing to a possible fight. And as police begin their investigation, we see some people in a white truck appearing as if they wanted to get out of there fast. And all we know right now is that somebody possibly got assaulted on a boat. Now do keep in mind the officer probably already has information on who was involved and that's why she ordered them out of the truck. But this is how easily things escalate because while the officer is investigating, she then has to shift gears to crowd control cuz the other people on location are starting to close in on the group in the white truck. Now, usually police would implement some sort of crowd control techniques. However, in this situation, this officer is clearly outnumbered and she has to control the situation the best she can until backup arrives. And de-escalation is the key here and this officer is doing a great job at that. And after the officer gets an eyewitness, we see that one of the males gets detained. So, this case is getting somewhere. And as the [music] victim is telling his story of the events, I can clearly see that he has cuts and swelling to his face. So, this is possibly a battery case. And this is why officers do question people separately and multiple times cuz the stories from the suspects [music] are not adding up. And that's because lies always change, but the truth, it stays the same. Now, this is great police work because they [music] took pictures of the victim's face, the shirt, and the boat. So, right now it's not looking too good for the suspect. And as the officers are doing their best to finish the investigation and clear the scene, total chaos erupts. And at this point, in my opinion, officers should call for an assist, which means every officer that's available should come to the scene because multiple [music] people will be getting arrested. Now, some of you guys may not agree with the officers in this situation because of the force that was used. [music] And I do understand that. But I want you to remember, these officers were professional, they were patient, [music] they gave clear orders, and they were respectful. However, when people refuse to listen, which is what these people did, the officers had to become more aggressive because sometimes that's the only behavior that people understand. But to wrap [music] this up, the first suspect could be facing an aggravated battery charge, which is a second-degree felony. So, it's a serious case. And I'll leave you with this, if we learned anything by watching this video, it's this, when police show up, you better have self-control cuz if you refuse to follow orders, and the cops come out, I hope it was worth it. >> The initial suspect was taken [music] to jail for battery. The four juveniles were taken to jail for resisting. They are innocent unless proven guilty [music] in a court of law.
