Don't make me take that. Don't make ME TAKE THAT. >> HANDS! >> [screaming] >> HANDS! HANDS! YOU MESSED UP! >> WHAT STARTS AS A ROUTINE traffic stop on Interstate 40 quickly turns into one of Arkansas State Police's most dangerous pursuits. A white Audi refuses to pull over, reaches speeds of more than 120 mph, survives spike strips, and still tries to escape. But, before the chase is over, the driver will abandon the car and make one final desperate run across open farmland. It is Wednesday, May 13th, 2026. Trooper Josh Middleton is monitoring eastbound traffic along Interstate 40 when he notices a white Audi following a semi-truck far too closely. Another violation immediately catches his attention. A dark cover partially obstructs the Kentucky license plate, making it difficult to read. Seeing enough probable cause for a stop, the trooper activates his emergency lights. >> Show me 10-37. Target is 10-54. >> Instead of pulling onto the shoulder, the Audi continues driving as though nothing happened. Moments later, the siren comes on. Even then, the driver refuses to yield. Dispatch is notified that the vehicle is failing to stop. Seconds later, the Audi suddenly accelerates, turning a simple traffic stop into a felony pursuit. Now traveling at speeds approaching 120 mph, the Audi weaves aggressively through interstate traffic. At several points, the driver even uses a shoulder to pass lower vehicles, creating an extremely dangerous situation for everyone on the highway. Arkansas State Police units begin coordinating ahead of the pursuit. Near mile marker 183, Corporal Jacob Price positions himself ahead of the pursuit with spike strips. Timing is critical. As the Audi races toward him, the spikes are deployed perfectly. The front passenger side tire takes a direct hit. Even with a rapidly deflating tire, the driver refuses to surrender. The damaged Audi continues eastbound, now riding on a failing front wheel while officers remain close behind. >> I'm going to fly to the 183. I'm right here at the exit. >> Pass the 180 service road. >> I see the 183 heading. >> Pass the 180 service road. >> I see the 180 heading. >> We're in the fast lane on the service >> I've got the spikes right here on the exit, so I'm just pull straight to me. >> All right, well he's coming up on that service road. I don't think you're going to be able to. No, you're not going to be able to. He's coming right at you on the right shoulder. He's coming right at you on your right shoulder. >> 183 is calling it in. >> Yeah, back up 183. >> All right, are you going to be able to back up 183? Are you going to be able to? Yeah, back up 183. BACK UP 183. SPIKES. 183 IS CALLING I THINK HE HIT HIM. YEAH, HE DID. SPIKES. 183 is calling I think he hit him. Yeah, he did. >> Unit 39 joint call. Unit 37 joint call. See him last call 183. See him last call on the right shoulder 183. >> 183 >> See him last call 183. on the right shoulder 183. >> 183 >> Last call 183. Copy 184. I'm clear on the 10. 1 passing on 185, speed's 100. >> As the pursuit reaches approximately mile marker 185, the damaged tire finally gives out completely. The Audi begins riding on the wheel itself and drifts towards the shoulder. For a brief moment, it appears the driver is finally giving up. Instead of stopping, the Audi keeps moving along the shoulder. Seeing the opportunity to safely end the pursuit, Trooper Middleton performs a tactical vehicle intervention, making controlled contact with the rear driver's side of the Audi. The maneuver is successful. As soon as the Audi stops, a man dressed entirely in black jumps out from the passenger side and sprints across a nearby farm field. The unmanned Audi slowly rolls forward before coming to rest against a fence in a roadside ditch. >> Got one running on foot across the field. Hispanic male, black hair, black short or excuse me, black pants, black shirt. >> 55, where you at? Hey. Coming from Texas. He's still going through the field. Looks like he's turning headed back west. Little Rock, look for right here at the county line. There's a looking at a gravel road. Maybe a farm road that runs off that. Looks like he's jumping across the creek. Get on that. Head towards 70. >> Multiple assisting units quickly surround the area. After a short foot chase across the open field toward Highway 70, officers successfully take the suspect into custody without further incident. Investigators identify the suspect as Eric Daniel Santos of Louisville, Kentucky. After being detained, Santos reportedly tells officers he fled because he believed the vehicle had been stolen. >> The >> The pursuit ultimately ends with Santos transported to the Lonoke County Detention Center. He faces charges that include fleeing in a vehicle and misdemeanor fleeing on foot. >> Hey, lost him. >> What began as a routine traffic violation ended with a 120 mph pursuit, spike strips, >> Go ahead. I'm going to go down here to the car. >> tactical intervention, and one final attempt to escape on foot. Another reminder of how quickly a simple traffic stop escalated into a dangerous situation.
