On January 20th, 2024, officers begin assisting a Amish family in locating a stolen horse and buggy taken from a Walmart parking lot. Officers had an idea who the suspect was due to a female matching the description, having recently trespassed on Walmart property just a few hours before. >> I watched it and I was I started to call somebody in the store cuz I said, "This is suspicious." >> Yeah. Yeah, cuz obviously she wasn't Amish, you know, >> right? >> As far as I could tell, and she was acting really suspicious. >> Was she a short, stocky white girl? >> Yeah. >> Yeah, that would be a good description. Wasn't real short, but she a little hefty. >> What about this girl right here? Can you see that? >> Yep. >> That's her, >> I'm pretty sure. Pretty sure. Is that from the store? >> Yeah, I just dealt with her earlier today at the store. 3:15. Hold on. Uh, >> got like car heart bibs on. In the video, you can see the suspect get into the horse and buggy and begin to move it. But she has some trouble and it takes her a while before she can steal the horse and buggy. >> Man, I should have called somebody and I knew it wasn't right cuz she was just so suspicious at >> Yeah. And she stood around on both sides of the buggy and was looking around like >> Yeah. >> I can't believe that. >> Oh my goodness. >> Crazy. >> Yeah. Oh, I got to love our customer base. >> What's her deal? >> Um, she's homeless, drugs. She's a thief. Steals cars, too. There's Lana. We deal with her all the time. >> Oh my. They supposed to say they're 11 miles away from home. see you earlier in Walmart. >> Yeah. Well, >> yeah. And I think >> and we had just showed up. So, >> well, I think uh I've got a pretty good idea who probably took your stuff. So, >> so are you guys from Indiana >> accidents? Cuz this is a horse and unexperienced driver won't be able to handle. >> I can't even drive him. >> Not yet. No, nothing. We haven't got any calls anyway. >> But you think you know who? >> Yeah. He said he gave me a description and I said, "So earlier I had a call. We dealt with a female in here who was stealing in Walmart. So, we have body cameras, right? And you can kind of watch it on our computers in there. So, I said, "Hey, does it look like this girl?" He's like, "Uh, yep." >> Uhoh. >> It fit. It fit. >> And she's she's homeless, on drugs, and is a car thief. Now, >> how could you drive a buggy? >> And another thing is she probably has the blanket still on, so that'll stick out. You don't drive a horse down the road with a blanket on. >> Yeah. >> And I'm serious. This horse in traffic, she won't be able. >> Do you guys live in Indiana or Michigan? >> She does in Indiana. >> So, would your horse know the way back home by itself? I'm >> He might She might going down here. We go down here to Fall River. >> She's very used to drive that way. >> Well, because the thing cuz I know sometimes the horses will go back to home >> on their own. >> I don't know if she will cuz she gets so fired up in traffic. >> Yeah. >> Let's say she went out here and she would have gone left with traffic. She wouldn't be in the lines >> like he wraps his >> Where's Where's the tie up for your boogies here? Uh >> over here. >> So, did we have did we see any tracks? >> Yes. Well, just but you can >> there were other there was another one here, so you can't really tell. >> She I seen her go to the stop sign and that's it. >> You couldn't I mean I know it's not somebody losing her because well she seen it anyway cuz I >> tied him twice then there's a loop that I tie him to able to slide it down. >> Do you have he thinks he probably didn't have time to take the blanket off? >> I don't think so. >> That would stick out. >> Black and white blanket. >> Yeah. >> I don't know. It's a gray one. gray blanket. >> Oh yeah, it's a black and gray. She was standing there and I looked away and I looked back. She was in the >> One thing that stands out on the horse, she has a lot of hair. >> Like long mane. >> She's very pretty. >> Okay. >> Which any owner >> dispatch is asking me to call in right now, which isn't normal. So, I'm wondering if somebody has called in for something and say, "Hey, do you think >> some horses have blinds by the eyes?" >> Huh? >> Some horses have blinds. This one doesn't. >> It sounds like she's going to have trouble with it. Yeah, >> she will. And >> and if she stopped, I hope she ties her up because >> I just hope the horse is alive yet. >> Is it male or female horse? >> I'm pretty sure it's Lana. >> Really? >> I don't know where she's staying, though. >> I don't either. >> So, >> I check I checked grass all the state line. >> If you want to go >> They live in ships. They said they take Fawn River down west. They said the horse would be pretty hard to control though. It doesn't >> I don't drive it. She doesn't drive it cuz she has trouble with pretty >> lane real quick. >> And one thing is he thinks she probably didn't have >> that. I have a B here. It's going to be for Amish buggy take from Walmart. >> Unknown direction. Uh it's going to be black and color horse double buggy with a Indiana buggy plate on the back of a >> numbers starts with 11. They're not sure but it starts with the number 11. >> Horse is a female wearing a uh black and gray blanket still drive up here. The first thing I do when I walk out I'm like okay where's Andy? That's her horse. And I'm like well I don't see her. And I thought well it's the snowman. I said she's not there. I seen you guys coming and looking then >> I could have just screamed. >> Ah, let me get your All right. Well, I appreciate your help. Um, I wish I I would have called somebody in the storm started too, but it just happened so fast. >> I'm just glad you saw it. >> Plus, you'd be like, there's no way. >> Yeah, exactly. >> N, >> you know, I was expecting her to to walk away and look up and she was in the buggy. >> Oh god, this is crazy. I've heard of people playing pranks, you know, >> maybe jump on the bug and let the horse loosen, make it appear like it's loose and the person comes running after it. But >> I went over to my check if it's there and it's not there. So, um >> So, what where do we go from here? >> So, I just had dispatch send it out to everybody. I'm going to call the Greens County, too. >> Okay. >> Um we're going to look around here cuz the girl, if we think it is, she's she's a local here. She's around town somewhere. Oh. Um, >> do you think let's say she would have went on bugger. Do you think she would have decided not to go through town? She would have went south. Probably would have went straight on cuz I bet she wouldn't have been able to turn her butt right down there. >> I don't think so. >> No. Yeah. I'm going to call her county. >> Probably south. >> So, I'll call her Graange County as well. Um, we'll go to Walmart, too, and get video. So, in the meantime though, what do you guys want to do so you're not stuck outside? Do you guys need a ride? There's nothing we can do as far as you just our children are you finding her. You can got a rest, >> right? But as far as we receive the buggy, >> is it okay for us to go home then? You just tell us. >> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Absolutely. Cuz I have >> Yeah. Do you guys How are you guys going to get home? >> You You want to I mean I can probably give you right here in a little bit. >> It's 11 miles. >> That's >> It's actually out river. >> Are you okay with that? Yeah, >> I have a brother that lives in surgeons and like he's not Amish, but I have no idea what he's doing. >> He was going to go coyote hunting, but I >> Well, >> actually, they were going out tonight. I just thought of that. >> All right. Well, if you want, I think I have enough room >> for some of the groceries and we I can uh you can we can stay warm in my car and we can use the phone to call your brother. >> Okay. >> And see if that works or >> Okay. Worst comes to worse, I can uh give you right back there at Chipana area. Go ahead, Central. A firm admiral on the right next to Mapler. Is there a female in This you? >> Yeah. >> Okay. So, that buggy. Did a female get out of that buggy and come in here? >> Okay. >> Yeah. So, if you guys have cameras, >> we do, but you're not going to be able to see it because whoever it was, they ran. >> How long ago was that? >> I don't know. And did you see what they look like? >> No. When I see >> And they went that way. >> Okay. I'll be right back. >> Yeah, it's where we assumed. Okay. Thank you. 99 18 from 33. Sounds like the subject dropped it off like 30 minutes ago and walked towards Maple Crest. I don't know if it's going to bite me if I try petting it. >> They said >> No, they said it's not very nice. >> No, they said it's like >> Oh, cuz I wanted to make sure it doesn't like run off. That's what I was worried about. >> It's been sitting there half an hour. >> Well, I'm hoping it's not going to move cuz it's not tied up to anything. >> Yeah. >> Okay. It came from this way though, huh? Where did you go from here? Did you turn back around? No. Right around the corner. >> That's where they got it from. >> Is their horse a buggy? >> I guess he just asked me where the horse was. He must have known what's going on. >> They stole it from Walmart. >> I can't believe you stole it from Walmart. He figured out how to drive the [ __ ] all the way here. >> I didn't think it'd make it this far, >> especially in this weather. So, you didn't get you didn't see what they look like. Are you saw footprints? >> Yeah, only footprints. I'm guessing it is. >> Yeah. >> Unreal. >> Hey, I can't believe they got this far. >> I cannot believe she they drove this horse that far. >> It sounds like the horse has been here for at least 45 minutes and hasn't moved. So, They're It's my brother-in-law's horse. I'm just >> I heard they're on the way, I heard. So, >> I just came over here to tie him up real quick. Well, we were all over town searching for him. >> Yeah, we were, too. And we I happened to just pass that motel. When I turn around, I'm on the phone with the sergeant. He's describing what the horse looks like. He's like, "He's got like a blue or gray coat with white." I was like, I'm looking at one right now in the parking lot. So, >> so I walked up and saw the plate star with 11. Yeah. It's been here the whole time. >> Yes. Hi. >> I got her. I got her. She's She's here. She wasn't even tied. She just stood here. Yeah. Yeah. Okay. Well, we're here whenever you get here. Yeah. It's like across from the liquor store. Oh, it's the second one, not the one beside auto auto zone. Okay. All right. There you go. >> So, I don't even know if you wanted to tie it up against there. I can move my car. If that would be easier for you, >> stay like she's a crazy horse. >> That's what I was told. I was about to walk up cuz I was checking to make sure they weren't still in there. I was like, I don't know if I can pet this horse or not. Like, if it's going to calm down if I walk up to it, it's going to freak out and run away. So, but the fact that she's been here for this long makes her think she's behaved enough not to run. >> Hey, Bryson. Or actually, just stand. I want to take Can you go take a picture, Bryson, with my phone? >> Just go over there and take a picture with how she ended up. Okay. >> I have >> just go over to my truck and take a picture. Okay. I got some relatives in from Wisconsin. They're not from Ramisha. They didn't believe me. >> Yeah. This is the first I've ever heard of it happening because most people don't think anyone random can walk up and take it. >> Crazy. >> No, Bryce. >> Yeah, that's her. Yeah. >> Hi. >> Hello. >> I need to talk to Lana. >> Okay. Look, I'll just I'll just take you back to home or whatever. >> No, no, Max. Listen, you are going to be generating that tachon energy for the rest of your life, and that is all that I need. Without it, I would actually start after you uh explode. >> Yeah, we are together forever. >> All right. I want to know everything that you know right now. >> Okay. >> Okay. Uh well, how about the energy officer back there? >> Where did it come from? >> It's okay if I get her. >> Yeah. >> Did you do this to me? >> No. I think you did this to me. You woke me up. Is he going to kill me? >> Yes. If I'm not around here, >> where'd she go? >> Outside door. There's an officer back there then. [Applause] Yeah, she's right here. No, that's Dylan. She didn't come out. >> Okay. All right. Oh, she didn't go out. >> She didn't go out. He's right there. >> Seriously, Lana, get out. >> What did I do this time? >> Huh? >> I said, "What did I do this time?" >> Why' you >> What? >> Come on. >> Come on. Gig's up. >> What did you do this time? I'm sorry. You know what you did? >> No, I really didn't. >> We have you on video. >> For what? >> You know what? >> You know what you did? >> How do you think you got here from Walmart? >> You want to see my shoes? My feet. >> For real. >> Turn around. Put your hands around your back. >> Okay. Look. >> I just fine. >> Okay. Can I get my shoes on? >> Yeah. We'll get some shoes. >> Okay. Thank you. >> Okay. How'd you get here? >> Be on. I went and stood. Well, I went >> Just remember there's video cameras all over Admiral. There's all over Walmart. So, what happened? Be truth. Don't Don't be a line. >> I'm walked over to Dollar Tree, [ __ ] cuz my phones were dead. I used the manager's phone, called for a ride, stay outside for maybe half hour, went in, didn't come. They come, so I asked for another ride >> and [ __ ] they said, "I'm not in town." So, I [ __ ] went through the uh Wild Bills and looked in their dumpster and then I went all the way up to the bank and then [ __ ] I went over the I walked half way through uh Meyers and then I walked back all this way. >> Mhm. >> I went and stood out by the semiis cuz I seen someone >> and then >> I sat there and continued and continued. Then I sat down by a [ __ ] horse and buggy waited what seemed like forever. Mhm. >> for them to come out and then [ __ ] nobody. So I went over to the country earth which was used three nights in I think. >> Yep. >> Sat there, waited and waited and then my girlfriend uh Stephanie Contrad came home, got a ride for her. After I waited and [ __ ] uh she had to go to Dollar General, then she did that ATM and then she [ __ ] dropped me off over here right in the front. >> Okay, now I want you to back up a little bit to Walmart in the buggy. >> Okay. >> Do you not recall the part I said there's cameras there? >> Yeah, >> there's cameras here that Admiral and there's cameras here >> that we already watched >> that we watched already. So, do you want do you want to tell your the true story of how you got here? >> Okay. I say I knocked on the buggy because both sides and then what happened? >> Got you on video. If you want to be honest, fine. If not, we'll go off video. >> So, you just took it, right? >> Yes, sir. It's a yes or no answer, right? Yes, you did, didn't you? >> Thank you. >> We talked about it outside here, didn't you? >> Absolutely. Do you have you have shoes or socks? >> Not back here. >> Okay. Were those Okay, let's go over there and grab them. I was just saying my socks or >> Yeah, go ahead. Go ahead. Wherever you need to go, man. I don't I'm not going to go picking through here. I'm not I'm not here looking for anything. >> Okay. [Applause] Okay. >> 516 cottage. >> I did check on it. I called the number. Thank you. >> I called the number. back there. But there's so >> your shoes. >> Yeah, they're by the back door, but there's soap. >> Well, it's either that or you walk on the snow, so I don't know. Or do you have something for a second just to talk and then Can I grab my shoes? >> Well, let's just grab them now. >> Um, yeah, I called the lady back, the caller. I called her back and left her a message. She didn't answer, but I left her a message saying that I checked on him and that the kid is 18. He's fine. and grandpa was there with them. >> So, yep. >> But I can get the [ __ ] money. >> Yes. Knock box. >> When I get there, >> uh, station 7 will have to get it. >> When I find it, I'll bring it up. >> Can I get your deal, please? Huh? >> When I find it, I'll bring it up. >> How are you going to bring it up to me? >> Okay. I'll call dispatch and have them send station 7 down there to you. Okay. >> Yep. All right. Bye. Uh, he needs to get in that apartment. >> Hey there, Darren. Hey there. Can you send station 7 down to 9933's location? Um, so they can access the Knox box to get into that apartment that he's at. Yeah. Lock box or just like getting him in an apartment down there. >> All right. >> Cool. Thank you. >> Appreciate it. All right. All right. Bye. >> See you. >> Hi, baby. Yeah. Being a good boy or girl? >> Girl. >> Good girl. >> Nice. >> And they turn a year old. >> All right. I'm sorry. >> All right. >> Okay. >> I I think I think it's time to go now. We've been pretty patient here. We need to get going. We can't stay here all night as you can't find your stuff. >> I'll make sure you get it. I promise. Okay. >> All right. Just come on. >> I won't let you. >> Thank you guys. >> Enjoy your movie. >> And your pet jellyfish. >> Was it father? >> What happened? >> Was it your father? Was it your friend? No. >> Roger. >> What? >> Roger. >> What? >> You did it this time. >> Huh? >> You did it this time. >> What did I do this time? >> What did you do? >> All right. Uh, my car is up here. >> No. What do you mean by that? >> All right. I'm just over here. All right. What do you have in your pockets? Anything? >> Um, a pair of underwear, my tablet, and that's it besides my phones and my That's fine. >> Okay. All right. Have a seat back here. Okay. I'm going to take you back to the police department. >> I want to make sure nothing else is. No, sounds good. >> Yeah, I was going to go home and eat, eat, eat, eat, eat, eat, eat, eat, eat, eat, too, but I like I ain't happen to know. >> No, you're good. >> Just want to make sure my inside buck is empty. >> Can you run this in into him real quick? >> Huh? >> Can he run this back into him or >> just just hold on to it? No, we need to go. >> This is his, not mine. >> I I don't That's Then you can get back to him when you get out. >> Okay. Thank you. >> It kind of hurts. >> What happened? >> My foot is cramped between the seat thing and the door. >> You got it. >> You get got a wedge underneath. There you go. There's a little There you go. >> Oh, thank you. >> No problem. [Applause] >> All right, come on down. >> Yep. >> Got your tablet? >> Yep. >> Everything. >> Sorry. Very good. We're going to go for the store here. >> Okay. >> Go ahead. Run in front of me. >> Now get us in. [Applause] All right. Go ahead. You just walk normal. >> Huh? >> You just walk normally. Okay. Anybody back or anything? I'm not coughing you up or anything right now. >> All right. Uh second door on the right. We'll go in here. Right here. And then and then can you just have a seat in that chair right there? I'll be right in here just a second. Okay. [Music] But I might. >> All right. >> Huh? >> Okay. You said it might be tonight. >> Should be anytime. >> All right. But I don't know. >> If you can, I'll definitely get it back to you on the 27th. >> All right. Thank you. >> No problem. >> All right. [Music] >> Okay. [Music] So, before I talk to you, I got to read you randoms. Okay. Technicality. All right. Uh, so just bear with me. Uh, these are your Miranda warnings. You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in court of law. You have the right to talk to a lawyer and have them present with you while you're being questioned. If you cannot afford to hire a lawyer, won't be appointed to represent you at county expense for any questioning if you wish. If you give up your right to remain silent and later wish to stop answering questions, no further questions will be asked. Uh, do you understand each of these rights as I have explained them to you? Okay. have a straight mind. Do you wish to talk to me? >> Yes, I do. >> Okay. So, we're here because of the stolen buggy, right? >> Yes. >> Okay. So, tell me how that happened. I I saw on video and part of what you were telling me was true, which I saw, and part of it wasn't true. Correct. >> Correct. >> Okay. So, earlier you and I I got call it was about 3:00 when we we talked to a Walmart earlier when they thought you were stealing. Okay. and we trespassed you. So you left and walked towards Meyers, correct? >> Yeah, I went to Dollar Tree. >> In the Dollar Tree. Okay. And then where'd you go after that? >> I went to look I went through behind uh Wild Bills or what used to be Wild Bills. >> Yeah, that's the marijuana shop now. The >> dudes. I went and hit up those dumpsters, which I usually do cuz you never know. We do quite find at least decent [ __ ] sometimes. But anyway, and then [ __ ] I went over to Myers. walked halfway through the parking lot. I said, "It's way too cold." >> Yeah. >> Walked back uh and then [ __ ] I walked over by there and sat and waited for well I stood and waited for a while >> and then [ __ ] I knocked because I didn't know it sound like somebody was inside. So I knocked on one side >> of of what? >> The buggy. >> The buggy. Okay. >> And then no one answered. So I and then I just continued staying there. went to and knocked on the other side because like I heard a noise again from the inside. So I thought >> and [ __ ] I didn't hear nobody. So I went back around sat in well stood there for a while. >> Mhm. >> And then nobody was coming. I waited waited nobody was coming and [ __ ] I what I was doing like was going to go home took me forever to get home. which and then I was getting to get different boots on and warmer clothes cuz I was >> cold and >> sure it was cold >> and my cold and but anyway and [ __ ] I was going to have somebody follow me >> cuz like I said my [ __ ] was dead. I could have somebody follow me or take me up there and so that way I can like two because I feel like I'm going to lie I did the whole [ __ ] time and just thinking like really what are you doing >> after you took the buggy? >> Yes. Like instant regret. So, I was just going to go home and [ __ ] get warm clothes on and go right back up there and let them know or get a hold of somebody >> or like if they would I wouldn't follow me. I was going to see if they could take me up there and I would had paper and pen and I was going to write on there >> like a phone number. >> Mhm. because Amazon starter as you seen my number or a different number which would have been his step Cody's dad's number >> to get a hold of me and I would come and get them a ride to a girl. >> Okay. >> And then plug in and or a ride also home. >> Okay. So sorry. >> So basically did you take the buggy cuz you were cold at that point? You just wanted to get home. Yes. >> And you didn't have any way to get home quicker, >> right? Have you ever taken any equestrian classes or anything? >> What? >> Like classes of how to like ride horses or anything like that? >> I >> How' you How'd you know how to drive the horse? >> I didn't. >> Are you kidding me? >> No, it's serious. >> Did you say anything to the horse? >> Like they had a window. I I didn't If you guys watched the video, you should you could have seen how horrible it was. >> Well, it took off pretty quick. >> No, not really. >> No, it looked quick on the camera. So, how'd you get to turn? You just pull it to the right when you want it to go right. And >> I >> You mean you got it to admiral? >> How' you How' you How'd you steer it? >> Horrible. Like I even had Well, obviously cars go past horses and buggies, but there's a guy I want to say on Monroe goes this way, right? >> Monroe. >> Yeah. Monroe goes this way, right? >> Goes north and south. >> Okay. Yes. >> Congress. Yeah. And then so his mechanic >> mechanic yeah >> I just got past Monroe and some guy was outside like he's watching >> he's like uh cuz obviously it's going slow as [ __ ] It's not it's not funny cuz it's horrible but like you could tell I was definitely not a buggy diver. >> Right. And he's like, "Um, do you need that um do you think that rope is stop stopping you?" Cuz like I said, at this point, he's just talking to me and he that's how slow I was going down the street. >> Mhm. I got you. >> And I'm like, "Huh?" He goes, "Your rope's hanging down." I'm like, "Oh, okay." And then finally got it to stop after realizing they have a brake pedal, which I don't know. >> They have a brake pedal? >> Yeah. >> But I didn't. So, did you just pull them to the right or left when you wanted them to turn >> on the ring? >> I mean, if I don't have it figured out, which I'm kind of glad I don't or I haven't. >> Mhm. >> But I didn't get it figured out yet. I was >> Well, you got it. You got it to where you needed to go. I mean, >> it I was in home not even maybe 20 minutes before y'all I heard y'all were over at Admiral. Okay. >> Maybe. >> All right. >> I was there. But >> All right. Well, I appreciate you being honest about it. I mean, like I said, we got it on video. >> It's not That's fine. But yeah, >> I I know what you're saying. All right. So, you got the you got the warrant, the $500, and you be charged with larseny, which is stealing that buggy. >> Okay, that's it. So, that means I got to do some in custody paperwork and then get you up to jail. So, um, >> do I do I have a bond right now for that? >> So, this lars knee is a felony. Okay. So, I cannot set a bond. So, that be set by magistrate. >> Why is that? >> Cuz felonies as officer, I can't set bond on felonies. The only the magistrates can set bond on felonies. >> So, >> cuz that that trailer itself, the buggy itself was over $10,000. >> Are you serious? >> Yep. And then the Anyway, he said the whole the buggy and the setup, the rains and the horse and all that's over $20,000 worth of stuff. >> Are you [ __ ] serious? >> I'm serious. So the Amish guy said it's only like a little over a year old that buggy. It's like almost brand new for them. >> Wow. >> So it was like their new car kind of got taken, >> right? >> In a sense. >> And they do have a G uh is that how they found it? Cuz their lo GPS locator on it >> he does but it wasn't on. If it was >> Did you take the speedometer? >> No. That's how I knew it was a Well, I didn't know it was a speedometer, but I assumed it was a >> Just toss it out. >> No, I did not. >> No. Where's that in your apartment? >> What do you mean? It should be in the thingy. I didn't touch it at all. >> Okay. >> I say I didn't know it was from what I thought it was was a GPS locator. >> Oh, yeah. I think he said he has a GPS, but I think he didn't keep it on cuz they went to the store or something like that. I think that's what he was telling me. >> Well, it was lit up and had numbers on it. Hey, that was telling how fast the horse was going. Not >> right. But you didn't touch that. >> No, I didn't. >> Okay. All right. That's fine. That's the least of our worries, I think. So, I appreciate you being honest about it. Um, have you ever been charged with stealing anything before? You got a warrant out of Indiana for theft. >> Is that what it was? I was going to say I know. >> Well, but but the Indiana warrant, we can't pick you up on it. It's Indiana. >> I say it's been a minute. >> Okay. >> My criminal record. My adult record. Not too far. driving or I think it's whatever, but it should be physical like assault and battery or >> Okay. So, you don't have any like previous thefts or stuff like that? >> Not that I know of. >> All right. So, so the the reason I asked is >> I can't imagine they'll keep you in jail too long then for >> you they'll get you out and you'll get a court date. >> So, what's tonight?
