On March 19th, 2025, officers responded to a retail store for a call of a mother leaving three small [music] children unattended in her vehicle. >> 10-4. I think the parents are walking up now. Hi, is this your car? >> Yeah. >> Yeah, okay. So, I got a call here because there's several children left in the car by themselves. >> just ran in. >> Okay. Well, I mean, I see you got a big bag from Finish Line. >> It's only just a outfit and a pair of shoes. >> Okay. See >> even in there that long. >> How long would you say you were in there? >> Probably like 20 minutes, if that. >> Okay. Do you have a driver's license with you? >> Yeah. >> How many kids are in the car? >> Um my two daughters and my son. >> Two, okay. So, three total? >> Yeah. There's a dog in the back, so >> Okay. So, oh, just a little one. >> Yeah, that's why the windows are kind of fogged up. >> Hello. You How are you guys doing? Are you doing okay? Everybody's all right in here? Okay. And all the babies. >> Yeah, they're sleeping. >> Probably just sleeping, but I don't want to necessarily shine it in her eyes, but I do need to see her face. Okay. >> I literally just ran in real quick and come right back. I was going out of town tomorrow, so I'm just trying to grab last minute things. I already got their stuff. You know, like Monday this week. >> I don't want to necessarily inconvenience you, but can you um maybe like grab baby's hand and just make sure >> They should be sleeping. >> Yeah, I just that she's awake or She's sleeping hard. >> Yeah. >> Okay. Is Yep, uh perfect. Okay. >> I'll go run it through the system real quick. >> Yeah, we'll we'll just check Is she Was she sleeping? I couldn't >> Yeah. >> I couldn't really see her face. >> Come on. >> Okay. No, she's good. Okay. Uh do me a minute. Just sit tight here. I got to run your guys' information real fast and I'll come back out and talk to you, okay? >> Okay. >> Hey, Sarge. >> Hey. >> Yo. So, I got I got three small children in the car. Uh one of them might uh cuz according to the statute of endangering the life of a child, it's it's Look like it's focusing on under the age of six, which two of them definitely are. >> Okay. >> The other one I think seven, but uh Anyways, yeah, she went in the store, did a bunch of shop and she got like two bags at least two different stores. She said she was in there for maybe 20 minutes. I got condensation in the window, so the kids were definitely left unattended in the car for a while. >> Okay. >> Okay. >> Uh endangering the life or health of a child, I mean, I From what I'm looking at, it looks like it's a class A. Mhm. Um child 6 years of age or younger unattended in a motor vehicle for more than 10 minutes. I mean, >> Why did she say that she would left them here in the car? >> She said cuz because there's three of them and she said it's it's difficult to get them all out of the car and deal with them inside the store as well she's shopping. >> Tell her that she needs to have somebody come pick up the children right now. >> Okay. >> And then um And then And then I I mean, for me, 20 minutes with babies in the car and it's freezing 39° outside right now. >> Yeah, and it didn't it did not look like the car was running. >> Okay. And then she's saying that she did do it cuz she much more than so I am I am leaning very hard on >> 95, okay. >> Um probably that can't walk them up there with you or 38 and then And have I have her have I would have her to tell her to call somebody, right? She Is she in the car right now? >> Yeah, I have her sitting in there with them right now. I'm talking to you. >> Okay. Uh cooperative? >> So far, yeah. I mean, she's been pretty honest. She said she was in there for at least 20 minutes. So, oh, and there's a small dog in the car, which >> I would I would have your caller start writing a statement of what they saw. >> I think she left. You know what? Cuz they were out here talking to me when she the um offender showed up, and they hurried up and got in their car. I can call her back, though. >> Yeah, and I think she lives local. >> Okay. Yeah, I'll I'll call her back and talk to her about writing a statement for me. >> Okay. How long did she see him in the car left alone? >> So, she didn't give me an exact time, but she said they got here around 5:30, and the Kia was not here then. >> Okay. And when they walked off and saw these kids in the car left unattended, >> Yeah. >> humidity on the windows from being left alone? >> Yep. >> Okay. All right. Okay. >> Can I have you step out and talk to me again? Let's just kind of step a little bit away from the kids while we talk. Um So, now, when I came out here, it looked like the vehicle wasn't running, right? >> Right. >> Right. Okay. You said you were inside maybe about 20 minutes cuz it's a little bit too much of a hassle to I mean, you have like, you know, a small infant and like, did you not have like a stroller or like what? >> They were just sleeping, you know, my toddler, she just when she's tired, it's you know, it's it's really hard, you know, trying to deal with two babies on top of, you know, >> Right. Do you have like, um any other like family or somebody that would help like as far as babysitting or No? Is there anybody in the area now that you could call to come pick up the kids? >> I don't >> Like the the child's uh or anything like that? >> No. >> Okay. So, here's the deal. I I can't let the kids go home with you tonight. So, I I do need you to call somebody to come pick up the kids. >> Why can't they come home with me? >> Okay. Well, you you you and I are going to be leaving together, going downtown to the jail. So, that's why. So, I need you to call somebody and come pick the kids up. >> I literally don't have anybody to call to come get my kids. >> So, I I need you to think real hard cuz otherwise we're going to have to call DCFS to to watch them tonight. >> Am I going to be coming home tonight? >> No. Right now we're looking at two counts of child endangerment. Go ahead. Cuz we have two infants in the car, two babies. And Yeah, 10-4. I have other information. We have two babies in the car, and then what How old is your son? >> Seven. >> Seven? Yeah. So, according to the statute, two children under the age of six can't be left unattended in the car. Technically, it says 10 minutes, but technically it's it's really it's not anytime at all. Because these kids are here by themselves, it's cold. >> My son has a phone. >> Okay, but he's he's seven. >> I >> You can't A child is not legally of age to babysit until they're 14. >> I know. >> So, we got to we got to work on we got to call somebody. >> Okay. I mean >> Okay. Well, hold on. I I can't have you going back in the car. >> phone. >> Where is it at? >> It's in my daughter's car. >> Okay. >> to see her. >> Can you get it from the passenger side then? >> Yeah. You know how long that I would be gone? >> Overnight. Yeah, you'll see a judge in the morning and you'll get out then. >> Okay. >> King County 534 >> I want my name and date of birth. I don't want to give you my name until you come get my kids because they're trying to take me to jail. Because I got ran out of the store real quick and the girls were sleeping so I just hurried up and ran in and came right back out but before I could even come back out, people are all in my car and called the police talking about there's kids left alone in the car. So I'm at the freaking mall. Because at the mall. Because I would do anything. Nothing. I didn't know that it was that serious. I literally ran I wasn't even in there for 20 minutes. I ran in and came right back out. I'm at the mall. You have to come get my kids. No, they're I they're with me at the mall. I'm not going to leave them at home. But they're they're trying to take me to jail. Because I had ran into the store and left Kalani and Maurice and Demaya in the car. I just ran in real quick and they're trying to take me to jail. And I need somebody to come get my kids. So do you know for sure that I'll be able to come get them so I'll be let out tomorrow? >> Yeah. Yep, you have to see a judge. They're going to set up a court date with you and then uh they'll have you sign some paperwork and that's when they're going to release you. >> Okay, so this is basically that you guys will have to stay with them overnight cuz they're taking me to jail and when I see the judge tomorrow is when they'll let I'll be able to come back. But I want them to stay at my house. I don't want them going to grandma's house. My mommy's coming >> She's coming. Okay. You You said it's your mother? Okay. All right. Let's walk over here by my squad car away from the kids, okay? >> When she comes home >> Can I Can I Can I wait here with them? >> I don't >> here. Nobody's going to go by your car. >> Yeah. Officer Officer Cantwell is going to stay here with your children while we go. >> Okay. >> Um >> Again, I >> I I understand that, but I don't think it's a good idea that we engage with your children in this state and condition right now, okay? I can't Unfortunately, I don't I I don't think that's wise for us to do that, okay? >> So, we'll be here for a couple of hours. >> Okay, can I get some stuff in my car? >> Nope. We'll We'll go to go over here, okay? We have to check you after we put you in cuffs and whatever you want to stay in your car, we'll leave it in your car. Come stand over on this side of my Yeah. We'll We'll do it right here so that way we're not directly in the view of your children, okay? I'm going to take your purse off before we do this. Okay, we're going to stand here for now. Go ahead and put your hands behind your back. >> The mother [music] was charged with multiple counts of endangering the life of a child. Thanks for viewing the channel.
