welcome back to the body cam Zone on December 5th 2020 this guy named Gregory Griffin III was pulled over by police officers of the Mundelein Police Department after he was seen speeding and disregarding a traffic control light one of the officers requested the usual driver's documents and asked a few other questions everything seemed to be going well until the officer suspected that there were some illegal substances in the car before we continue let me thank blue watch for sharing this video on their YouTube channel [Applause] man part yeah go ahead please do actually really not drive over my foot the reason I'm stopping you is because so you were speeding back on Holly you're going like I was going 38 and you were still going faster than me so you're going to like 39 or 40. and then you stopped over the stop line at the stoplight right here little messy button and you don't have your seatbelt on too I didn't see that but thank you for being honest with me I appreciate that how's your license how's my license yeah is it suspended revoked no I just have to update my um address on it okay where are you living but I mean like you're valid to drive yeah no no warrants or anything like that okay cool I just want to make sure that you're available to drive and everything give your insurance with you yeah 257 file so yeah ticket or a warning is that for seatbelt man no this is my girlfriend's it just said Rubio oh okay yeah yeah but it's four wheeling or not sorry it's front Wheeling for a seat belt you guys got all your seatbelts man Griffin was originally pulled over for speeding and disregarding a traffic control light under section 511-601 of the Illinois compiled statute no vehicle may be driven upon any Highway of this state at a speed which is greater than is reasonable and proper with regard to traffic conditions and the use of the highway or endangers the safety of any person or property section 511-305 also states that the driver of any vehicle shall obey the instructions of any official traffic control device unless otherwise directed by a police officer subject to the exceptions granted the driver of an authorized emergency vehicle it is unlawful for any person to leave the roadway and travel across private property to avoid an official traffic control device after perceiving drug-related odors emanating from the vehicle the officer asked Griffin if he had any drugs on him he initially denied having any but upon further interrogations he admitted to having packets of drugs after realizing he was in trouble he tried to escape yeah the only thing the car got a lot man I'm sorry anything in the car drugs guns oh dead bodies nothing like that do you smoke weed no no I could smell weed coming from the car let's come back over here for me to my car Gregory Griffin put your hands up here so I could smell weed in the car so if I can smell weed in the car I can search you I'm just asking for your consent to kind of be courteous so I'm not trying to you know you know how the news is people think we're dicks I'm not trying to be a dick that's why I'm asking that's why I'm asking you so I smell weed in the car so I please let me listen you're going to be going in a handcuff so I'm not letting you stretch your arms Griffin initially lied to the officer and later tried to escape from being arrested his behaviors violated section 531-1 which states a person who knowingly resists arrest or obstructs the performance by one known to the person to be a peace officer firefighter or Correctional Institution employee of any authorized act within his or her official capacity commits a Class A misdemeanor after taking control of the incident the officers searched Griffin's body and found packets of drugs in his pockets they also searched his vehicle and found other illegal substances as long as you can breathe dude and you can talk to us then we're good yeah you can keep holding on to it the only thing I have is in this blouse pocket this one yes that's it let's get him up let's get these uh can we get these off you okay can you breathing how do you feel good this video holds his arm okay yeah no 570 402 it is unlawful for any person unknowingly to possess a controlled or counterfeit substance or controlled substance analog a violation of this act with respect to each of the Controlled Substances constitutes a single and separate violation this offense could be a misdemeanor or felony depending on the controlled or counterfeit substances number of Prior convictions and the amount of the substance found with the offender after the medical team had certified that he was okay Griffin was arrested he got many charges including speeding disregarding a traffic control light resisting arrest unlawful possession of cannabis possession of cocaine and operating an uninsured motor vehicle he was sentenced to 24 months probation 12 months conditional discharge and a hundred hours of community service session I don't know what the possession is I believe it's of uh some sort of controlled substance and then resisting all right the officers will speak with you when we get back overall the officers handled this encounter professionally even when Griffin was uncooperative that was a job well done well that's all concerning this video before you go check out this video where
