On April 8th, 2026, at around 9:50 a.m., Central Patrol Division officers were conducting patrol in the area of 7th Street and Town Avenue when they saw a black BMW 430i sedan that was wanted for Grand Theft Auto. The officers requested the assistance of additional patrol units, an air unit, and a supervisor, and followed the vehicle onto the eastbound 10 freeway for a video without audio. And I just saw the >> building. >> As Haime neared the bottom of the off-ramp, he conducted a U-turn, re-entered the southbound 5 freeway, and accelerated away at a high rate of speed. The officers then activated their police vehicles, emergency lights, and siren, and initiated a vehicle pursuit. >> 112, remain in pursuit of a 16 vehicle. However, he refused to comply and instead removed a handgun from his waistband. As the officers continued giving verbal commands for him to surrender, Haime briefly stood and moved toward the rear of the BMW before collapsing once more. >> We are unable to see anything. The officers gave the passenger verbal commands of surrender and after several minutes, the passenger complied with the officer's commands and was eventually taken into custody without incident. Los Angeles County Fire Department paramedics treated Haime for the gunshot wounds he sustained. However, despite life-saving efforts, he was pronounced deceased.
