When deputies arrived, they secured the scene and discovered the victim had been shot with a rifle despite no witnesses or surveillance footage available. As detectives followed developing leads, attention gradually shifted towards someone already present when officers [music] first responded. And the major case unit launched an extensive investigation supported by crime scene technicians. Detectives executed multiple search warrants and submitted collected evidence to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement for forensic testing, which, along with additional investigative techniques, helped establish probable cause. After 7 weeks of investigative work, the victim's grandson was taken into custody and charged with 2nd degree murder, then transported to the Charlotte County Jail.
